Reid: 'I Don't Know How Anyone Of Hispanic Heritage Could Be A Republican'

Reid: 'I don't know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican'Conservatives from around the country blasted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) last week after the veteran lawmaker made some racially charged remarks while attempting to disparage Republican policies.

After being asked a question about the GOP’s recent attempts at immigration reform, the Nevada Democrat wondered aloud how people of Hispanic descent could favor the Right.

"I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK," Reid said at a campaign event in Las Vegas. "Do I need to say more?"

Republicans on the local, state and Federal level were quick to criticize Reid and suggest that the longtime Democrat is disconnected from Hispanic voters, who make up more than one-fourth of his state’s population. Some conservatives—including Republican Senate Committee spokesman Brian Walsh—said that the incident highlights Reid’s inability to see race outside of political terms, Fox5Vegas.com reports.

Marco Rubio, a Cuban-American Republican who is running for Senate, noted that Reid is incorrect in assuming that Hispanics would naturally favor Democratic policies, according to Politico.

"The reason why Americans of Hispanic descent should be Republicans is that the Democratic leadership is trying to dismantle the American free enterprise system, the only system in the world where parents like mine who work hard and play by the rules can give their children the opportunities they themselves did not have," he said.

    For my Spanish ancestors I would gladly drop a$$ kick Reid down south of the boarder. All of my ancestors came to this continent legally. None of them were ever hear illegally.

    Perhaps Reid has forgotten that Ronald Reagen granted amnesty to a supposed 800,000 illegal aliens, however, some 3 million or more signed up for that amnesty. That was a republican president that granted that amnesty, so why are Hispanics so in love with the dems??

      Keep in mind that about 3 million amnesties were given. Only about 300,000 were renewed. The rest simply wanted a few years to finish collecting their $100,000 so they could go back home and retire – just like most of the illegals here now want as well.

I’m from Illinois and the people here need seeing eye dogs! Stupid is as stupid does. I know blind people who see better then Harry supports. My wife has been a vision teacher for 34 plus years, and her students see better they those Harry supporters.

    This is no different than most Democratic rhetoric. They think the people of African or Mexican decent are stupid and only want a government that gives them handouts. This is not true. There are many people of diverse backgrounds that love the American way. Small government that works for We The People, spending money wisely and not trying to control the people.

Republicans will disportionately put minorities in prison for longer periods of time than a white person who commits the same crime. Republicans will vote in anyone who demands longer prison sentencing (even though our prisons are full and costing the taxpayers billions more) Republicans look at forgiveness as an act of sissies and turn a blind eye to all injustices. Republicans allowed banks and corporations to run amuck and allowed them to take advantage of common folk. Republicans don’t always stand up for rape or incest victims,especially victims who try and seek an abortion. ( A Republican in Utah(Bennet) attempted such a law this year. He wanted to charge the person who was raped with a crime and even women who have miscarriages. You have plenty of extremists on your side who want to control peoples lives with more laws. So judge not for you will be judged.

And I don’t know of any local Republicans who are against abortion for rape victims. On the other hand, I don’t know of any local Democrats who are in favor of abortion in all cases either. We have several sites in my state where Republicans voted against making these mining companies responsible for their contaminating legacy. Democrats tried to make these polluters of our drinking water responsible and accountable. Guess who got the clean-up bill? The taxpayer. Since there is no money I reckon we have to live with this poisoning of our state.

      When will we finally realize that those who wish to
      control us regardless of the party they belong to
      are hoping that we will continue using party labels
      and defining what a politician stands for by his religious affiliation. There are dems and repubs in every major religion
      who do not agree with each other because they have not taken
      the time to look beyond party labels and truly understand
      that the direction of both parties has been LEFTWARD for as
      long as I can remember and I am 72.

      We must start thinking independently at the state and local level
      and creating leaders who will challenge unconstitutional laws
      and executive edicts coming from Washington. This means first understanding our glorious Constitution and the concept of a very limited government and creating leaders at all levels who believe in
      the cause of freedom and who are then willing to reject government
      intrusions into our lives.
      As we beginto value freedom more than security granted by government in our lives we willbe willing to oppose and reject more government controls and handouts at every level of government.
      WE CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. We either want to be free or we don ‘t
      and we are either willing to sacrifice time, money and talents for
      the cause or we are not.
      Great men and women motivated with a great cause (FREEDOM) helped in
      the founding of this nation and that is what is required now people
      who are willing to support and even create an atmosphere of rescue
      in reestablishing A REPUBLICAN FORM OF GOVERNMENT where the people
      govern through representatives totally responsibile to the people
      all of whom truly understand our Constitution and the governing
      principles set forth.

    I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with the Hispanic and Latino groups from the DCCCD in North Texas. As a group we were very diversified and honest with each other. We fought against the suppression of their voices together.
    One thing I absolutely admired about these fine people was the fact that they did not like affirmative action. We all found common ground believing that every man and woman should be treated fairly and equal.
    Now, a decade later…we are in a fight again, standing side-by-side for the same fight…only this time, we as Americans are, we are fighting for it on a broader playing field.
    Elite…nasty pieces of work and f’d up way of politics.
    I can imagine the world as a better place, however, politicians need to be limited their ability to cause such devastation to America and her people.
    Government = highly paid welfare servants with power they don’t deserve or need…this must change.

This administration will go down in history for the most outrageous ‘foot in mouth’ blunders in our history. From Nancy saying they must past the bill so it can be read, to Barry saying the police ‘acted stupidly’, to Harry and his idiotic comment. Those who do damage control must have nightmares wondering what personal opinions or off the cuff comments will come out on a day to day basis!

      It’s really amazing how a Republican can say something so innocuous as when praising Strom Thurmond on his 100th birthday, Trent Lott said he would have made a great president. He said, “I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either.” Strom Thurmond, if you don’t know, was a Southerner who RENOUNCED racism and, in 1970, was one of the first Southern Senators to hire a black staffer. However, Trent Lott was DRUMMED out of office.

      And, still we have Harry Reid, senate majority leader of the Democrats, the OVERT racist still in office. You all remember what Harry Reid said about Barack Obama, right? He described him as a “light-skinned” black man “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” The people who bring up race incessantly have a definite problem with people of a different skin tone than they do. Hence this thought process of “how can a Hispanic be a Republican??????” idiocy. And Harry Reid is still in office, why?

        Dagney : Reid is still in office for two reasons. First, democrats support their candidates so strongly that they vote for them several times on election day. (Just ask ACORN.) Second, it is not yet the second of November. With any luck he will be leaving office in January of 2011.

        here in texas, a LARGE majority of hispanics vote for other hispanics. when i was working the precinct during the primary in march, i’d ask them to vote for medina for governor. they’d ask if she’s hispanic. i’d say no, her husband is and they’d say they couldn’t vote for her. party isn’t as important as race. and they say we’re racists. what a stupid way to pick a represntative. that’s why i fear gonzalez will win again in november. so far, he hasn’t run even one ad all year. that’s how sure he is of winning.

At least Bill Clinton didn’t start a war with a country for no apparent reason. At least he didn’t run up the price of oil to help make Iran a nuclear country. At least he didn’t bail out the banks and give all the crooks a bonus for creating it. At least he protected the country from an 9-11 stile attack.         Just a thought. Did you know the nickname “slick Willie” comes from a pool hall across the street from the Ark. State Capitol? He was always there instead at the office. If anyone wanted to talk to him about any legislation, they had to pay him $100 for a game of pool. As long as the game continued, they could talk. As soon as the game was over, they either had to leave or pay for another game. And he wasn’t even a good player!

      Actually, it doesn’t. Contrary to popular belief, the Republican party is not a conservative party and hasn’t been for at least a decade and probably longer. The media still calls it a conservative party and Republicans try to convince people they are conservatives but few, if any, are. At best, Republicans are left leaning moderates. It’s why I no longer am a Republican. Ronald Reagan once said that he didn’t leave the Democrat party, it left him. That’s how I feel about the Republican party. I see little difference in the two parties these days. Neither represent the people.

    did you guys see doctor manny on fox this last weekend? he laid into harry reid big time. he said he doesn’t normally comment on politics but he was highly insulted at what dirty harry said. manny’s whole family is republican and comes from cuba. they are highly successful people and manny said harry just insulted their intellgence. dirty harry has ahabbit of inserting foot into mouth. if it wasn’t for all the money his campaign has the race would not even be close. i hope to god he loses. so harry keep insulting good conservative american latinos. please, so we can finally say goodby to sorry socialist butt.

You support the state to take over private property and unitlaterally dictate land use to a private religious entity which othrwise is acting within the law; doing away with the 14th Amendment; forcing Americans to pack citizenship ID wherever they go; unequal treatment of religions; favored status to the wealthy elite and Big Corporations over that of the average citizen … seems to me that’s not exactly American and patriotic…y’know?

        As to Visa’d people here in the country…yep, they have to have their visas and documentation showing here legally…so that means we all should carry ID papers as the Ariz. law clearly implies? So…if they ask for citizenship papers…and we’re not packing any, what prevents them from declaring you a Canadien here illegally and you have to prove otherwise..meanwhile having your butt sitting in jail until such proof is provided…

        Can Illegal Aliens get a valid drivers license? It’s my understanding that if they were pulled over for something unlawful then they could be asked for identification. If they and or I were pulled over for speeding etc, and we could not provide a valid drivers license then we could be arrested. It has always been that way. I don’t see what the problem is. I have forgotten my wallet before and sometimes I turn around and get it and sometimes I roll the dice and keep going knowing that if I get caught with out it I could potentially go to jail.

        Yes, they can in most states, particularly if they get a false ID. But many states do not require any ID to apply now.

If you have a job other than working for the government, I will be around to collect extra tax dollars from you to support the illegal’s that get free services. By the way they are not just from Mexico, many from middle east and other places where criminals are put in jail. But here as long as you are not a citizen you don’t go to prison but are sent back to home country and allowed to cross the broader and move to another state to commit crimes. But don’t worry about taxes or jobs as we are hard at work driving evil business out of this country and extending unemployment until you can collect retirement

      HFlashman are you as totally ignorant as you sound? Right now, any time you drive a motor vehicle you have to have ID. Next time you are stopped for anything just refuse to show it and see how far you get. Any police officer can ask anyone for ID and if they refuse to produce it they can be detained. Any non-citizen in this country is required to have their ID, passport with them and produce it upon request by law enforcement. The mosque they want to build at ground zero is a symbol of muslin victory and domination. No body is saying that it is not legal, everyone with a brain is saying that it is in bad taste and presents the wrong symbol. There are big questions about where the money is coming from and most people are not thrilled that Mr. Obama then sends this muslin to the Mideast to represent us at tax payer expense. He is not a ambassador, he is simply Obama’s muslin buddy, and supporter of terrorist.

    Not too long ago, Mr. Reid’s chums wanted us to believe there are no black conservatives in America [ref. Clarence Thomas]. If I could be 20 years younger, I might want to try Mr. Reid’s favorite non-prescription, recreational drug.
    I can’t imagine how any rational man or woman could justify being a ‘Dem,’ a lib or a progressive. Someone who has a retarded personality or is a child who never grew up might want to try it, but certainly no rational adult.

        Oh really. So now you can read the mind of the founding fathers, to assume they had God in mind when they found the United States, and therefore they were christians?. Well, most people know that they were Masons (in case you did not know), and true, they, the masons believe in God, but to assume that one’s believe in God equals being a christian is a stretch of the imagination. As a matter of fact, Thomas Jefferson had more than a few harsh words for the christians. What christians have been doing for many years now is ‘hijacking’ all credits to the purpose, and the basis for the founding of this nation. And that is wrong, just as wrong as denying christians participation in its formation would be. If anything the founding fathers wanted to avoid the religious strifes of the old world.

If this is true, then why did Jefferson sign all his documents: “In the Year of Our Lord?” Read Washington’s farewell address to where he says religion is the basis of the courts and justice.         Uuhhh!!!! Lets see what conservatives (democrats and republicans, but, never-the-less, conservative) done than for you. NOT MUCH. They have opposed just about everything, including many civil liberties you enjoy today. Heck, once upon a time they even opposed a woman’s right to vote. Now having said that, I do admit that at times ‘conservatism’ is a necessary evil to balance the ‘scale’ of power within our system of government. But now is not the time because they (conservative extrimism) tilted that balance so much that it flipped on its’ side. So, my advise to you, and to those of your political leaning, would be to stay the present course and, in a few more years when things are back on track, then, the necessary ‘evil’ I mentioned above might find its place again.
