Double Standards

August 13, 2010 by

In 1995 Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) took to the floor to excoriate then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) over accusations that he had violated ethics laws.

Now look who’s in the hot seat. Waters herself is now headed to a public trial after the House Ethics Committee (now there’s an oxymoron) charged her with violating House rules.

She’s accused of intervening with Federal regulators on behalf of a bank in which she and her husband have substantial investments, and where her husband once served on the board of directors. The bank was one of the weakest to receive funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

Maybe now we’ll find out who Maxine Waters really is.

    Patriot007,

Wow! Thanks. That was almost as good as………..

  • smdares

Not only is Maxine Waters dumber than dirt, but she got caught – by the DIMLIBS!
How about her pal Laura Richardson?

  • Patriot007

Maxine Waters is a person who suffers from an under developed and socially inferior emotion complex. Racism is her only focus and as all emotional babies won’t and can’t accept responsibility for her dishonesty. She’d rather get the national group of emotional babies to rally behind her false cries of racism. “They called her a name, everyone heard it was unethical behavior, she heard “racism”. Inside her childish head she still wimpers and asks,”Is it cause I’m Black?” What an idiot. must be the Nimrods that put her there suffer from the same cry baby state of emotional development. Hey Maxine….wake up, it’s because you think you can abuse power for personal gain and for that of your immediate family! I can see the hatred in your heart toward non-blacks, it oozes like a festering puss fill boil everytime you open your mouth. Like a person who eats lots of raw garlic, you constantly belch this hatred toward the America that made it possible for you and others to succeed in life. I’m Native American. My ancestors were mistreated but, unlike you, I don’t harbor your racist victim mental illness. How sad for our country that you demonstrate how NOT to be a successful Black American!

  • awcole

This should be the mantra- “If they are in, throw them out” Until we get some workable ethics rules, until rotten, lawbreaking politicians and their minions start serving serious jail time in serious jails, until the President, The supreme court, congress and all their staffs are on the very same health care plan as all of the rest of us, until corporate money for campaign contributions and other bribes and illegal enablers are done away with, until we have a commander in chief who knows what the military is for and how to use it, until taxation is fair and equitable for all and low enough to reduce our bloated and non-representative federal government from an elephant to a mouse, until no corporation has any more rights than any individual, until no corporation is allowed to walk away from its obligations, until the RNC & DNC either represent the interests of their constituents or are supplanted by viable parties that do, until the Republic and the Constitution are restored, and the current roads to Socialism and Fascism are destroyed forever…”If they are in, THROW THEM OUT!”

  • http://DoubleStandards Pat

I couldn’t agree more Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel should be expelled from Congress and stripped of all benefits. We should be pushing for term limits and to do away with retirements from Congress. Our forefathers did not have this in mind, this should not be a career if we truly want good government then we need to get rid of career politicians. We have let them do this without our consent because we became to complacent and now since this new administration we are seeing what this does to all of us. Obammacare what a joke and it is going to cost all of us, why did this bill have to be 2000 plus pages well think about it if it 2000 pages plus no one will read it. These folks in congress need a wake up call and that is what we can do in NOV. Term limits and no pay raises unless we the people approve it.!

    • Cameron

Look how few pages the Constitution took to write, & how few people were involved. To make a long story short, today’s politicians in DC write looooooong bills because “If you can’t dazzle’em w/brilliance, baffle’em w/ BS.

      • Christin

They’re WAY TOO LONG so they can HIDE all their Freedom stealing, TAXATION, pork spending, business and job killing laws.

  • jopa

Does anyone remember the misdeeds of Vitter, Ensign,Stevens,Sanford,Gingrch,Delay and the list goes on.Claire is so judgemental and thinks she is holier than thou.Casting stones again??

    • http://kd6vkj@yahoo.com Saul

I think they are all a bunch of crooks and we need to get rid of the lot start over so to say. put them all on their butts and start with a whole new congress and senate.

    • Claire

jopa–You are calling me judgmental when I posted that I would never vote for Gingrich for President? You are saying I am casting stones? I am not holier than thou–I have a right to say what I want and I will. You and everyone else are doing the same thing. It is called freedom of speech. And yes, I clearly remember Edwards, Ensign, Vetter, Sanford, Clinton, Delay, and the rest of the idiots that couldn’t keep their pants on.

      • JeffH

Claire, jopa is just a childish minded liberal.

      • libertytrain

Claire – good post as always.

      • Coservative at Birth

I don’t remember any charges against Delay regarding his pants. All of the charges made were without merit, which is why you haven’t heard anymore about the case.

      • Claire

Conservative at Birth–Regarding Delay, I included his name because jopa had it in his post, plus I added a couple of names. True, I do not think the “pants on” issue concerned Delay and I shouldn’t have included him in my post. Delay’s problems WERE different.

    • Angel Wannabe

jopa, What the Hell has any of those guys sexual encounters, have to do with Obama ruining the country?__Absolutely nothing!__You weren’t winning the agrument with Clair, so now your grasping at straws, and sh*t slinging, trying to stay in the game!___Your progressive heros are idiots!!!

      • Allan

Progressives need to attack conservatives’ moral failures, because they see no real alternative to that strategy, and because they tend to be amoral.

    • Steve

    • http://kd6vkj@yahoo.com Saul

what do you expect from these idots that are in bed with dumbama. I heard one person say that he is a true god but this prez is of the devil, he is the anti-Christ

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Anyone convicted of a felony should lose all, not only the position they hold, but ‘benefits’ as well. We need more jobs created right now, so get your average person to serve on committees to look into ethics violations. This would serve two purposes… jobs and ridding our government of those who don’t deserve the trust the American public has given them!

    • http://kd6vkj@yahoo.com Saul

Good one Robin can’t think of anyone else for the job you got it go get em.

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

        Saul… I would love to!

  • H. S. Folger

It is a given that corruption is rampant in federal government, and that November is a very important time for federal politics. But, everyone must be wary of who we replace the present regime with, so that we don’t have the same situation. We need some conservatism in politics to get us out of this financial chasm that we are presently in.

    • Wanda Murline

What every state in the US needs is what is a “RECALL” law on the books. What that means is if you voted someone in office and after one year, that person is not representing you and you get x amount of signatures…you can recall (fire) that person. Another is then appointed until a new election at the next election cycle, which would be one year as we have elections for Senators and Congressmen every two years. Recall the SOB’s until you get someone who will do what his employer (the American Citizen) tells him to do, not the other way around. Some 13 states have this amendment to their Constitution, and after November elections, I am hoping we in Texas will have it also.

      • marvin

Wanda Murline i agree on the recall i think california has that law, a congress person is ever 2 years a senator is ever 6 years and the pres is 4 years

  • Randall

You got to be carefull what you say because it might come back and bite you in the a$$.

  • RAT

Notice how Waters saunters up to the podium. Even way back then she thought she was “all that”. She’s displaying to everyone that she’s out to kick some a$$. “Look out, here I come!! I’m Maxine Waters!”

Then comes the tough talk and saunter back to her seat (“Maxine says, ‘Take that!’ Woo!”). Classic! Typical of someone trying to deflect attention away from her own misdeeds.

It took 15 years, but it was just a matter of time ’til she got caught.

  • Right Wing

What strikes me like a stone to the head is how blatant the many double standard scandals have become yet these politicians seem to shed the trouble like water off a ducks back. I can think of at least a few dozen scandals involving the most blatant disregard for the position of a public servant that it makes me strain to believe there is a decent, hard-working person that will serve the people and be transparent into a decent lifestyle with honest virtues. This is one trait about Glenn Beck i appreciate. I have no problem with someone admitting a problem and working toward reform, but to stand on the floor and admonish one person for a violation you are guilty of is not a position any political leader should find themselves in. It makes me believe they have weak minds and and unfettered addictive tendencies.

    • RAT

RW… right you are about these bums. I don’t think Washington CHANGES them… I think Washington ATTRACTS them.

Speaking of Washington, how sad to have a city whose name has become synonymous with corruption be named after the most upstanding person in history. He must be rolling over in his grave.

    • http://kd6vkj@yahoo.com Saul

      Right Wing

Some of these people that are in office can not even get a credit card because they are in so much debit they are laughable. waters is only a small fish in an even smaller fish bowl when are these knuckleheads going to get their heads out of the toilet bowl and quite drinking the way dogs do. I think that they are all acting like a bunch of dogs in heat.

      • RAT

Don’t you mean: Waters is a small fish in a big SWAMP?
Time to drain the swamp. The party of NO-vember will rise soon.

      • http://goggle jimradford

gaters go get the waters and stinking fish

      • Jeep

Unfortunately Saul, the “water in the toilet bowl” is very expensive. Like thieves left alone in the vault, many politicians are addicted to the millions they “work hard” to siphon offat the public trough.

    • DaveH

No man (or woman) is perfect enough to micromanage our personal choices. We need to get Government back to their original mandate. That is, to protect us from the Force of others. Otherwise, they need to butt out.

      • JeffH

DaveH, such a simple process that has become an enigma in our society.

  • http://gmail i41

By the own Sop (Standrads and Operations Prcedures) thet are supposed to lose their pensions for defauding the government of the USA. The tax cheats have defrauded the government with felony amounts, but never even got whacked with high penalities that xitizens do. Must less the stealing and influnce pedeling charges. It took me over a year of continually contacting the Senators and Reps offices and writing until I finally got a hard copy. Besides their pensions they still get SS along with health care for themselves and family at our expense. Beltway bastards protect each other under the frat boy club attitatude, along with the eleitist beleif, they are above the rules. Whorehound Clinton was another convicted liar that should of lost his pension and life time security that is another example of the partys eleitist crimminal statue for crooks in the democrat party.

    • http://kd6vkj@yahoo.com Saul

      i41
I have to agree with you on that plus if I had my way all of them would be sent to prison for an extended period of time also loosing all pensions and health care. Make it so that they have to use the same health care that they gave to the rest of us!!!!!…..

  • David J. Berard

JMR you right they should be under social security like everyone else.

  • JennKay

For the most part, these people who “serve” the American taxpayers, are narcissists. They love themselves, their voice and their empty heads. Selfish, selfish, selfish! They “know what is best” for us and, of course, are above the law. None of us could ever get away with their flimsy excuses. I agree with JeffH and others who posted calling for throwing the shameful bums out, taking away lifetime compensation and calling for SHORT term limits. NOW!!

  • http://pegmg@aol.com Peggy G.

Maxine Waters is a crook, but so is Nancy Pelosi. Didn’t her husband’s tuna company benefit financially from legislation Pelosi got passed? Our Congress is loaded with self-serving incompetents and crooks, which is why we need to clean House! I can’t wait for November to get here!

    • J.M.R.

DON’T HOLD YOUR BREATHE AS I FEEL THIS WILL BE ONE THE MOST CORRUPT ELECTIONS IN HISTORY, WORSE THEN THE LAST ONE.

      • Cameron

If you want to experience a corrupt election process outside of Chicago come to Noxubee Co. MS, where black voters are 80+% of the electorate & the Dem Party Chairman, a TWICE convicted felon (1 State & 1 Federal), still cheats with impunity in elections. Being crooked is the first requirement to be a Democrat politician or wheel in elections.

      • Christin

Cameron, I thought you had to have a CLEAN record to run for office. How is it a convict is in office ruling over the law abiding class of Americans?
Oh well… BO has several social security numbers, several aliases, and a fake birth certificate… silly me.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Christin,
One only has to look to Youngstown Ohio to belie that. James Trafficant who just got out of the federal pen is rumored to be running again!!!

  • Doug

They are all crooked. The longer they stay in Washington the worse they become. It is time for term limits which is a concept the founders considered when they passed the Articles of Confederation. I am not sure why that was left out of the constitution, but it needs to be done. This is the only way that control will be restored. It will also save a ton of money since they are serving for a limited time no need for a lavish retirement or health plan. It also seems the longer they remain the bigger their staff becomes, which of course cost the taxpayers. The other issue that would help stop corruption is a flat tax since many of the issues of corruption seem to deal with giving tax favors to certain people.

    • http://kd6vkj@yahoo.com Saul

      Doug
I have to agree with you on that term limits and let them have to use the same health care program that they pushed on us and see where thats gets them. after all they did violate the 25, 26, and 27 amendments when they passed that bill. what where they thinking all thats is going to lead to is the extermanation of a lot of people. also let waters go to jail and see how long she lasts that would be an intresting experiment.

    • Cameron

How many other professions do you know will allow 80-100-yr-old doddering Alzheimer’s patients to wield such power & be venerated while they get pushed around in a wheelchair/oxygen tanks attached to the backs? Other US government jobs have mandatory retirement ages, WHY NOT CONGRESS, unless they are above the law?

    • DaveH

Term limits will accomplish nothing more than making lame ducks out of every Congressman in their last term. Imagine if the current crop of Democrats were all out this year? The Cap and Tax bill would have passed just like the Healthcare Bill did. They would have had nothing to lose. It would have been even easier for Obama to ply them with his “Chicago Way”.
With term limits many of the voters would be deluded into thinking our Freedom was protected, making them even lazier about investigating their choices for Representatives than they are now.
There is no substitute for an educated electorate.

      • GregS

Excellent point, DaveH! Not only would it make lame ducks out of every Congressman in his/her last year, but it would also force out even the really good Congressmen and Senators who actually do their jobs. Those types of people are very hard to find. As you said, the best implementation of term limits is the voting booth, along with an educated electorate, which REGULARLY exercises its right to vote. Instead of physically limiting the number of terms of office, there needs to be more transparancy of what’s going on in Congress, and ALL legislation should be limited in complexity and made readily available to the public. This type of exposure would give voters more of an incentive to go out and vote.

I do, however, feel that the six-year term for the Senate is far too long. It should be only two years, like that for the House, so that the voters can fire the bad ones, before they do too much damage.

      • DaveH

Perhaps six years is too long, but it would require a Constitutional Amendment to change that.

      • GregS

Then so be it. Perhaps a Constitutional Convention would be the best way to accomplish that (see the discussion with Allan below), since the members of Congress would probably be unwilling to impose stricter rules on themselves. What are your thoughts on that?

      • Steve

A Constitutional Convention would be a slipery slope with the group of socialist/Marxist opressors we have in there now. When a C.C. is
opened they are allowed to address, vote on, and change anything that is brought up. They address the original issue first, and then it’s open season for any other issues. In our present political climate I would be afraid we would lose our first and second amendments, & maybe several of them. This liberal group is so brazen and arrogant that we could lose every freedom the Constitution gives us.

I agree with everyones assessments of term limits. It is a waste for the reasons you all stated. We’ve got to do it with the ballot box.

    • Allan

Term limits and congressional rules changes are vital. The career politician is a cancer to our future, and is robbing the taxpayer blind.

      • GregS

Allan, although I disagree with you on term limits (See the discussion between DaveH and me, above), I do agree that Congressional rules changes are needed, not only for pensions and health plans, but for the length of Congressional terms as well. Are you the same Allan who brought up the idea (in a previous post back in June) of having a Constitutional Convention to do this? Here’s the link back to that discussion:

        http://www.personalliberty.com/news/louisiana-passes-new-law-defying-federal-healthcare-overhaul-2-19851864/#comment-156570

If you are the same Allan in that discussion, do you still think that a Constitutional Convention would be a good way to accomplish the above?

  • David J. Berard

TERM LIMITS no more then 2

    • J.M.R.

D.J.B i agree but also no retirement benefits except S.S., they get a salary and thats it.

      • J.M.R.

P.S. AND WE VOTE ON THE SALARY

      • recovery

Funny thing about their salary, they decide what they make but they earn millions from other sources. Are there any representatives that actually need their salary? They are compensated by expenses and kickbacks among many other hidden ways to get money. Do you know of any that are not or don’t become millionaires during their government employment? The salary is just a deception to make us believe they live on it.

      • Cameron

When LBJ from TX & Bennie Thompson from MS (& a host of others I’m sure) were first elected to Congress they didn’t have enough money to buy bus fare to DC. How in the Hell did they get that rich off of their salaries?

  • Colo43

    Strange how that works!
one with superior authority can call the punches, and think they are above the law.

The entire govermental system is parasitic, full of parasites, breeding more parasites. They are the entitlement parasites, Marxist parasites, Progressive Liberal parasites, they are on both sides of the ailes in both houses and in the white house.

These parasites are like bed bugs, they feed on the citizens when they are asleep to what is happening, inject a soothing mixture media that numbs the mind and distracts they American citizen from the pain, then they feed, sucking up money, power and control eventually killing the host – We the People, the contitution, the economy and everything else.

When the light is on them, they hide again, only coming out when the host goes to sleep again.

    Term limits now.

Newt Gingrich will not be president…he has too much baggage. We want new blood with new ideas and someone that will sign the Contract with America to represent us and be a “Public Servant”, not a corrupt, elists crook. We are tired of the same ole, same ole…there is someone out there that will come to light before 2012…you will see that it will not be the same old dodads that have been around forever. Hell, by then, we may have an Independent for President. Keep the faith, we will persevere.

      • Bob

The contract with America did nothing.Just duped people into voting for Republicans. Nothing improved.

      • s c

B, your progressive brainwashing and that double standard chip implant betrays you every time you flap your mouth. How’s your memory, Einstein? Do you remember a weasel named Bubba Clinton? He dared to talk about a COVENANT with the American people.
NO mortal can have a covenant with anyone. Eight years of that horny toad didn’t do America any good (morale in the military was at an all-time low, too). We almost had government healthcare rammed down our throats via the one who wears the pants in that family (Hillary).
Get your severe memory problem fixed. So is it the pills or the programming that earns you minimum wage for being a plant on this website?

      • Cameron

The bible says it best, you have to go through the fire. The best person for a job is one who has failed in the past and learned from the mistakes. True, one who continues to make mistakes and not learn is an example of insanity. That is what we have now keep doing the same thing, keep spending, keep taxing keep going on vacation and blame the ones not in power for your failures. I would vote for someone that admits making mistakes and has learned from them. The liar is the one that says he/she never made mistakes and will bring real change.

      • viktor leben

You’re right – just go with the empirical evidence …

      • Cameron

Liberals LOVE to point to Conservatives & derisively say the definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same mistakes & expecting different results. Hey, Liberals, LOOK IN THE COTTON-PICKIN’ (oops, can’t use that term NOW; it might upset the President; but wait, he’s never even SEEN a cotton plant let alone picked cotton or he’d know better) MIRROR LIBERALS & SAY THAT NOW!

      • http://noone JCWarrior

Wanda, that’s exactly why I was pulling for Sarah Palin. I listen to everybody complaining about professional politicians and when we have someone who sounds like us instead of a polished TV soundbite we act like they are to stupid to be able to do anything. No wonder the pols have managed to pull so much wool over our eyes.

      • Coservative at Birth

This is exactly why we must get involved at the grass roots level. Get to know your Local, State, and National Representatives. Make the time or loose your freedoms. We need to get the Lawyers out of power that write the laws filled with convolution, so that no one else can understand them, or loose our liberty.

      • DaveH

The problem is that we have let Government encroach into too much of our private lives. So, they must sell themselves as being intelligent enough to accomplish making us all happy. No human being has that much intelligence, so they lie. We are going to continue being in turmoil until we wake to that fact, and start voting for people that will get the Government out of our personal choices, whether those choices are good ones or bad ones. People learn from their mistakes, unless somebody is lording over them taking their choices away. Then they purposely repeat those mistakes to spite their would-be controllers. The most well-behaved society is a Free society.

Gingrich advocates curtailing Freedom of Speech…we lose that, we’ve lost it ALL!!!

Seems like I remember awhile back Gingrich collaborating with Hillary on something. Can’t remember what it was, but it really damaged his credibility with me.

I think Maxine Waters is serving as “the Fall Guy” . She’s being singled out unfairly. EVERYONE CONGRESSMAN WHO VOTED FOR TARP IS GUILTY.

Did anyone read the article on Newt Gingrich in Esquire magazine ? This dude has been married 3 TIMES ! Wife number 1 was his High School geometry teacher, who he started dating when he was 16 !!!! Every time a wife got sick (wife #1 Uterine cancer, Wife # 2 Multiple Sclerosis) he would commit adultery and divorce them. Then he marries the girl he’s cheating with. You want him for President ? He’s the Republican standard for “virtue” ??! He’s a joke !

A little off topic, but since you brought up BO in the WH I will add this site for all who care about the one ruling over our land.

BO is Kenyan. See You Tube – Not Natural Born – TRUTH MATTERS at:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwhKuunp8D8&feature=player_embedded

BO states in his own words and in his own voice that he is not America born, but born in Kenya. He is a false pres.

Gov is so corrupt. How did it get so bad guys. We vote for people we think will do a good job and represent us… what a joke.
I thank God I do not have voter’s remorse… I did not vote for BO/ aka. BS. I was awake. The rest of America better wake up, too.

    • Jeep

Was this article about Newt? Geeze, Viktor I missed that part. Your tactics of misdirection are pitiful at best. Go have another cup of coffee and when your IQ is raised come back and play with the big boys and girls.

    • Wanda Murline

No matter what Newt Gingrich did…it does not excute Maxine Waters from philtering the public tax payer’s funds into her and her husband’s bank. Rangel and Waters are the typical liberal…do as I say, don’t do as I do. Don’t listen to what they say, look at what they do. Rangel and Waters have both committed a crime and should be punished for them and not slapped on the wrist and allowed to keep their seats in Congress. It is time to pay the pauper…it is time for them to go as both have been in office since the dinosaurs.

These people keep getting elected by the same sort of people they are. They think the working class owes them for the past, present and forever in the future. It’s a certain mind set of eternal racism and generational entitlements for “downtrodden” made permanent by judicial gerrymandering. Real “change” is coming soon, are you ready?

      • David

Right on….it’s worse now than I have ever seen. Somehow our unbiased pres & company has accelerated it exponentially. Wellfare be gone. If I was pres I would give them 1 year to get their house in order, after that the money dries up. Oh yea, if you can’t afford to feed your children then no more incentives for you to keep producing…which has exacerbated the problem.

Maxine is a piece of trash….throw her and Rangel out!

      • Christin

David, did you hear Rangle’s pitiful crybaby speech on the news.

It was like he was hoping he’d just get thrown out and have all his six figure salary/pension and elitist health care for LIFE.

Who would prosecute Rangle and Waters in “a court of Law by their peers”… would that be US Americans or the corrupt Congress??

    • http://none John Detwiler

Poor Victor Leban. Here we have another brainwashed leftist who thinks a crooked politician stealing from the taxpayer to achieve their own goal should not be concidered for fraud, but thinks someone who marries more than once a cheat and fornicator. The only comparison between the two is simply a leftist excuse for a crooked Democrat who was caught with her finger in the jar.

      • DaveH

Viktor is no “leftist”. He does have the irritating habit (to others, not me) of speaking his mind.
We have lost our Freedom to both major parties. For sure, I can tolerate Republicans far more than Democrats, but I wouldn’t vote for either unless no Libertarian candidates were available and then, maybe, I would vote for a Republican.

    • Jim

Leave it to a Liberal to try to change the game. You attack Newt for his personal mistakes, we are talking about Waters’ criminal behavior. You liberals attacked Newt for writting a text book and wanted his head, but Pelosi writes one and uses a tax payer funded air craft to go on a book tour. Joseph Gobbles would be proud of all of the Liberals in the Democratic Party and in the Liberal Media. You have been good students at manipulating lies into what you want people to accept as truth. I hope you have your tickets to Chaves Land. After November you are no longer welcome here.

But, Newt is a serious contender for the 2012 presidency. Shouldn’t we be discussing anybody that might be messing up our Freedom?

People like Waters and Rangel (and Obama, Biden, Fwank, Dodd, Pelosi, Reid, Shumer, Byrd, Kennedy, Waxman, Leahy, Wiener, Boxer and so many others) prove that politicians CAN’T be trusted. Granted, you could include Graham, Specter, McCain and others, but for now the main event deals with ‘progressives,’ not ‘Republicans’ or conservatives.
Throw the vermin OUT. Start from scratch. Throw out their huge staffs, too. Hit politicians where it hurts the most, and deny them any chance of having consecutive terms. This is for all of the marbles, people. Do you not yet understand?

Using their positions to garner special deals, to the detriment of the people of America, is criminal. Other people have gone to prison for less: Martha Stewart, the Enron folks, etc. Don’t forget the big Whitewater scandal involving the Clintons. They slithered out of that, too.

They need to be punished to the full extent of the law. When you are in a postion of national “trust”, it is a much bigger crime than those that take place in the private sector, bad as they are.

Well, Maxine “No justice no peace” Waters, the shoe is on the other foot now! NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE!

  • Claire

A classic example of a person that thinks he/she is holier than thou. A person cannot go through life doing what they dang well please, and thinking they can get by with anything just because of “who” they are. A person can get “by” with misdeeds for many, many years, but it eventuallly bites them in the butt. Waters and Rangel are certainly old enough to know better. They should have known they would get “caught.” I am tired of people that pull these crimes. The average person would end up in jail/pay a stiff fine, he/she would certainly be penalized. I say throw the book at Waters and Rangel and throw them out of office. Now. They are a disgrace.

    • Rangerscotty

Well said, and just the way I feel too.

    • Anker Vinje

I believe that they should be checked and removed and controled

    • Christin

      I agree Claire.

But just throwing them out of office would be “too nice.”

They will get a great pension & health care for life on the taxpayers dime.

You and I would lose our job, BUT we would also be dragged into court for a costly law suit, thrown in jail and fined. They should have to lose their darn salary and fabulous health care for LIFE, also!!!

Kick the ruling-class, corrupt bums out and give them stiff penaties like the rest of the hard-working American citizens would have to endure.

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
The laws should most absolutely apply EQUALLY to ALL American CITIZENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • DaveH

That would be nice, but unlikely. People tend to go easy on their fellow professionals.

      • Fed Up Gal in NM

        DaveH,

You’re right about that, especially when the “fellow professionals” are in positions of power.

I don’t quite understand how people in these positions continue getting away with this. Even if it is proven she and Rangel have not “actually” done something illegal or unethical…they have certainly done things that give the appearance of unethical behavior….their actions at the very least give the appearance of conflicts of interest.

As a DoD [mid-level] federal employee, my position requires me to [annually] provide financial data, including real estate and any other investments or business affiliation I may have. The documents clearly [IMO] explain how one’s employment can be modified (my word) or terminated if one’s actions are found to be a conflict of interest or even if the actions simply give the appearance of a conflict of interest.

I can assure you, I would not be afforded a 90-minute “press conference” by medial outlets to dispute any charges brought; nor should they be afforded this. The appearance of a conflict is obvious….as is their arrogance and self-important assumed status.

      • Fed Up Gal in NM

        Dan AZ,

I apologize if this does not post in the correct order; there was no “reply” link.

I’m sure like me, you really could not care less that they are black. Makes me no difference about their race / ethnicity; if they are a human being serving in public office and their actions give the appearance of a conflict of interest….they deserve the harshest legal punishment…which should include but not me limited to kicking their butts out of there…and no eligiblity to run for public office again…period! For those who may say….what about so and so who did the same thing 5-10 yrs ago, etc. Well, you may be right but it’s unlikely we can do anything about most of that….but we can send an unmistakable message and start inflicting the punishment and don’t let up….no matter the color, race, gender!

      • Al Sieber

I agree with you DaveH, and I don’t see any justice.

      • dan az

Sure there is al its called black justice,I think it was part of the oath that the anointed one took before he was elected to the naacp oh my mistake the white house.

      • Martin fereday

Bravo…. they should definately lose the pension just the way we would lose everything for doing a lot less.

    • Cameron

At the risk of being called “racist” I’ll say it looks like the pot was calling the kettle black & got caught w/their pants down. Some people seem to believe that because they “serve” in Congress that they are ABOVE the very laws they write & force upon OTHERS. Hang’em, & hang’em high so maybe it will discourage others from violating the laws (rules) & maybe encourage others to do right.

      • TIME

        Cameron,

You don’t sound raciest to me, and as most here know I am Black as well Hispanic let alone Native American and White too! But what I am is an “AMERICAN” and all the other stuff is long after that fact.

I agree with you 100% on your post, these folks we elect seem to think that they have a differant form of justice, {and in fact they have thus voted themselfs such} over the years.

This is why it is very important that we as a nation band together and “VOTE” out the scum bags. Then repeal all the laws they have placed on us as a Yoke of slavery to the government for the last 100 plus years.

Yes we want “real CHANGE,” we don’t need any more lip service and baby kissing, and dead fish hand shakes.

We want all of our “Freedoms” back, as well we want
“Responsible Advocates” who are working for the Citizens of the United States of America, not the world bankers and George Soro and all his clan of Neo Progressive Marxist.

      • Fed Up Gal in NM

Cameron – While I believe your comments “Hang’em, & hang’em high” were meant metaphorically, it won’t surprise me if someone introduces the race card. They probably don’t realize horse thieves used to be hanged and I’m pretty sure they were mostly white. :-)

      • Oh Please…

TIME, I couldn’t have said it better. Also, while I don’t often comment…I have read a number of your posts and have found you to be a very level headed wise person. I enjoy reading what you have to say. I’d like to add also that while behavior such as this has been happening a long time…..it’s at least refreshing to see that the more of the public seems to finally have become more aware and fed up with it.

The BEST thing the current administration has done has been to get people riled up enough to pay attention (see through the lip service) and want to act. Much of the public have too long blindly accepted the sugar-sweet campaign chants of politicians & the creatively worded excuses/deflections of public officials without any further consideration. Too many in our society over time have bought in to the idea that the government should take care of them, that they’ve been ‘suckered in’ to promoting politicians forward simply because (like a child) they liked hearing the isolated ways (lies) they’d be taken care of.

People are now realizing that nothing happens in isolation and that they need to consider the bigger picture of what is best for the country at large (more people thrive if the country as a whole thrives). They are realizing that rather than just hearing/accepting the promises that they need to look deeper, look at the past records/choices politicians have made (what have they promised before, did they act on it or act against it?). They are realizing they need to also consider the large scale impact of impending laws/bills and realizing that while there are MANY important issues, they need to prioritize what is most important to address (for our country) and choose the individual that will address the most pressing issues best. Most of all….people are realizing they need to be diligent in paying attention to these officials after they’ve been voted in and HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE for their actions (which includes scrutinizing the media and digging even deeper than THEIR reports).

This administration has riled up people enough to realize they cannot afford to be complacent anymore. Like you said…we need to stand together, vote them out & and if their replacements follow suit with being scammers…vote them out too! The message may not be heard by them immediately, but if we stay diligent they will eventually!

        Excellent point!

      Claire,

You said, speaking of Maxine Waters:A classic example of a person that thinks he/she is holier than thou. A person cannot go through life doing what they dang well please, and thinking they can get by with anything just because of “who” they are.

Claire, could you please name for me a single Democrat Senator, Governor or Representative who does NOT fit that description? I even have one or two liberal relatives in the family who fit that description.

The Republican Party is accuses of being “The Party Of No”. I say the democrats are the party of “Lying, hypocritical, dishonest, crooked, immoral, un-American, anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti free-enterprise, anti-freedom, pro-racial disunity, pro-socialist communist wannabes”

But that’s just me. I wonder if I left anything out?

      • Joe K

Oh yeah, I did leave something out:

The democrats are also the party of anti American sovereignty/Pro United Nations one world dictatorship demagoguery.

      • dan az

        Now thats a mouth full!

      • joe k

Good thing I was typing. I would never have been able to say all that in one breath.

      • Claire

Joe K–Okay, I respect your reply. I will go one step further. I think the vast majority of the politicians that currently hold office in the Congress and the White House think they are holier than thou and they certainly come across as doing what they dang well please. By saying this, I include the Republicans (RINOs) as well as the Democrats. In my estimation, both parties leave a lot to be desired. Both parties have politicians that are greedy, dishonest, immoral, etc. I no longer am tied to either party, I will vote for the person I think is the best of the lot. And with this comment, I hope and pray there is a “best of the lot” to vote for come November and 2012.

      • Christin

The Republicans are the Party of “Hell NO,” we aren’t going to pass those 2000 page bills written by the Appollo Alliance that Kill Jobs, Raise Taxes, Raises the national Deficet / Debt spending spree, and Redistribute the Wealth policies!!!

    • Carole Howell

There are a lot of double standards going on, Maxine Waters, very small potatoes compared with…..say all the lies the American people were told about why we were going to war in Iraq. Read the following and decide which of the 3 you are?

Three basic ways to see this are:

      1) No, he didn’t lie. If you believe that he lied then you are un-American. If you call the president a liar then you should leave the country; you should be ashamed. If you believe that the president is a liar then you are a horribly misinformed and misguided person that has no morals. We should all trust the president and have faith in him and our nation’s leaders.

If this is true then we have a lot of misguided Americans, and a world that is against the rest.

      2) Yes, he lied. On top of that, the entire American system supported the lies; we have all been lied to for years by the American government, but that’s just the reality of life in the modern world. It’s not possible for the government to be honest and open with American citizens for a variety of reasons including national security. We all have to just put our trust in leadership in order to be safe and to be happy because the issues are too complex for the average citizen. National, and world, security depends on secrecy.

If this is true then democracy is dead, as uninformed puppets cannot govern themselves.

      3) Yes, he lied, and the entire system supported his lies. Not just his lies, but lies that have gone on for generations in America, lies told by politicians and businessmen alike. Bush did lie, he cheated, and he stole, and his agenda may not be in the best interests of the American people or the people of the world.

If this is true then what does it say about our system? How did we come to this?

Back in 1926 Gilbert K. Chesterton wrote:

“You may have secret diplomacy; you cannot have secret democracy. Democracy is dead without information. If the people are misinformed about the main facts, we cannot even say that they are voting wrong, but rather that they do not vote at all. At best they are voting about something else; something that does not exist. The old defenders of democracy never dreamed of defending this sort of democracy. They assumed that public affairs would be public. ”
      ____________
So why are public affairs not public? Why are some people above the law? If the laws of this nation do do apply to all equally, then there is no law.

Why do we focus on these petty cases, and not go first to getting the lying murders who took us to war under false pretenses. Now there are the crimes of the century. Besides all our troops who lost their lives in that unnecessary war, how about all the 10s of 1000s that suffer from brain damage? How can you ignore this the plight of our own troops, are their lives so cheap to you. MONEY IS WORTH MORE? But the lives of our men and women are worth nothing? Maxine Waters is just a diversion.

If we really supported our troops and were loyal to them we would go after the men who took us to war based on lies. WAKE UP FOR OUR COUNTRY’S SAKE. Maxine Waters my eye, get the biggest crooks. Stop turning a blind eye to the real problems of this nation.

If Maxine Waters was working for the support of small minority banks in this country of Giant Criminal Banks such as CITIBANK and CHASE, what was her crime in truth. NONE

Can you people actually think for your selves?

      • Al Sieber

Carole Howell, I can think for myself, and you have to get real close to find the truth, we’re a Republic, not a Democracy. ” and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God”….

      • Claire

I believe I think for myself. Plus the fact I do search for the truth. I read your post, considered what you said, but I will still make up my own mind and come to my own conclusions about the matters at hand. And no, I am not a “follower.”

Barbaa Boxer and Diane Feinstein are both guilty of the same thing, only on a much bigger scale (using their postion to funnel money to their husband’s business). It was exposed, but nothing came of it.
And don’t forget that Pelosi exempted her own businesses from the laws and regulations they placed on everyone else.

The fact that Rangle and Waters are “small potatoes” doesn’t mean they are not guilty. The fact that others got by with doing the same thing still doesn’t mean they all should get a free pass. No doubt, this has something to do with why they think they can do it.

Both Waters and Rangle are arrogant socialists, and they also think that their race gives them special protective privilege. They need to suffer the consequences, and then we need to go after the rest of them.

BTW, Boxer, Feinstein, Pelosi and all the rest of them who’ve used their power to their own advantage need to have their misconduct revisited.

      • kate8

Oh, and BTW, what about the fact that Obama himself was the recipient of the largest kickbacks from Fanny and Freddie. And what about his dealings with Tony Rezco.

        The whole fish pond stinks.

      • Christin

kate8 great comments…you are thinking with a level head.
Though the scum on the stagnant pond has grown into a swelling ocean of sharks and garbage.
Out with the corrupt Ruling Class.

        Carole Howell,

Exactly which branch of military service appointed you as it’s advocate? I’m retired military, have family who were in the military (lost a cousin in Viet Nam), still have friends in the military (all branches of service; active duty and reserves/guard status); I work with the military now.

You are not my advocate, so please do not speak for me. If you personally served or are now serving (God forbid) in the military, then you have a right to speak for yourself and yourself only; if you have family who served or is now serving, then at least give them credit for deciding what was best for themselves and for deciding what they wanted to stand for.

        Kate8,

Kudos! Way to hammer that nail in that coffin!

      • Claire

Fed Up Gal & kate8—Good comeback. And oh so true.

Rangle and Waters are perfect examples of why we should have term limitations.
