No, I responded to the previous post about liberals only believing what other liberals say. Actually, no we are not ‘all one’. You’re trying to force people together under too broad of a category, and that includes heterosexuals as well as homosexuals. Nothing divides the human species up as completely and entirely as their sexual preferences. And I don’t see this argument as an ‘us’ versus ‘them’ thing. First of all, the lawyer IS a California lawyer, so I would imagine he’s got a pretty good idea about California state and Constitutional law: he sues them on a regular basis.
Second: no one is making gays second class citizens, legally or illegally. No one says gay people cannot marry: they can marry anyone of the opposite sex they choose, and THAT IS THE LAW. I didn’t write it, but 56% of the citizens of California AGREE with the interpretation of the marriage clause. It was voted on, the MAJORITY passed it, now move on with your life.
Third: all I’ve heard out of the gay movement is that because they can’t marry, they can’t make decisons about or with their partners concerning end-of-life arrangements, hospital care, real estate matters, etc. because the family can over-rule or ignore them. Here is a piece of free, common-sense legal advice: its called a power of attorney or a living will. POAs and LW’s trump family fights every time. They are easy to obtain, you can write them to suit your needs, and they hold up in court.

And therein lies one of the problems. I think in time the states are going to have to change the way ‘marriage’ is interpreted across the board. I think eventually ‘marraige’ is going to have to be designated as a church-sponsored rite, performed by clergy, in a church, temple, or other designated location. The other side of it will be called a ‘civil union’, that is performed by a judge or other legal official. One can’t be less binding than the other to be fair to the participating couples, both would have to be neutralized in a divorce process in a court, and it would allow all rights a privelieges to be equal to the couples wheather they were joined in a ‘marriage’ or a ‘civil union’. The difference would only be in the religious or non-religious connotation, not the underlying rights and laws.
this of course iwll make no one happy completely, but it might serve as a middle ground, at least.

How about you see the Constitution on this matter? Hate to tell you, but the voting MAJORITY ruled on this one. It went to a vote of the people of California, they voted on it, and it was voted down. Now, according to FEDERAL law, since it was an issue that was made part of the California state constitution, the appeal should have gone to the US Supreme Court, NOT a federal judge. Its a little technicality called a LAW. So now, according to the law, not only is the judge’s ruling illegal, but Jerry Brown as the State AG should have challenged it going into said federal judge if the only law body that should have ruled on it WAS the US Supreme Court. If you want to disbar a California lawyer, start with him. In the meantime, you have a federal judge with a conflict of interest making up the law as he goes along, ignoring the MAJORITY (right, wrong or indifferent, this went to the people for a vote and the gays lost) overruling the California Constitution, and furthering this mess.
The judge’s brief stated that laws cannot be based on ‘moral’ issues, which is a crock because he ruled on this from a ‘moral’ standpoint: his own sexuality. He should have recused himself, or Brown should have demanded his removal and had this forwarded to the Us Supreme Court where it belongs.

You brought up a good point. You should look at the “New Testament” as a commentary or interpretation of what the “Old Testament” means.

The source of the whole Bible is Jesus, He is the Aleph Tav of Genesis 1:1 and the Alpha and Omega of Revelations … The Word of God. Go with His “interpretaion” of the Old Testament. He taught the Disciples ! and later the Apostle Paul(for 3 years ).

The Author knows better what His book means than any teacher …

And didn’t Jesus teach the opposite of some of the laws in the Old Testament?

Good question ! I’m not a Bible scholar , don’t interpret what Jesus says in terms of “opposites”. Go with the fulfillment of the Old Testament Prophecies. SOME things Jesus say in the NT are actually harsher than the Mosaic Law. Look at his teaching on Adultery as an example … Jesus (the author of the Old Testament) explains what He means by the Law He gave at Sinai ..

John 3:16, 17 are two good verses to keep in mind. It all comes down to a God’s plan for redeeming fallen mankind …

Look at all the different books coming from one author (Jesus) who has different assistants working for him. For example, Paul’s “books” in the Bible are actually coming from Jesus .. Paul’s writing down what Jesus told him… miracuously helping Paul to remember what Jesus said …

The Bible was closed when the Apostle John returned from Patmos. With what limited knowledge I have, John spent his last years in Asia Minor (?) probably Ephesus …. At that time the New Testament was completed and closed. Their might be an exception with the book of Hebrews (?) but I personally doubt it. Hebrews was probably written before the Aposlte John died. John was the Apostle who witnessed Jesus second coming ! Jesus said he would.. when He was talking to Peter at the end of the Book of John ….

Many books were written about Jesus in the first century. Those books were destroyed by the Roman Empire. Christians were killed off by the thousands, and their books burnt, during the persecution under the Roman Emperors for centuries. The Christians, in the first century were alot smarter, theologically than the Chrisitians of the later centuries.

The Chrisitan “holacaust” was over 300 years. The Christians were always looking over their shoulder, wondering when they would be martyred. Definitely not a good environment for educating the young ! That’s why we had the Dark Ages. Don’t blame the Christians, the Roman Empire persecuted them so much that thier was a “dumbing down” …

I’m not mocking anything, and I do believe in God. However, I believe in a God who made us as we are and does not punish us. If he made us in his image and likeness (as spirit), why would he be angry when we use what he’s given us? He would not have given us free will if he didn’t want us to use it. The original text in the Bible was in ancient language, which IS subject to interpretation. Open your mind. But, of course, you won’t because you’re brainwashed. I was too for most of my life until I looked at another view and felt in my gut it was right. I set aside my fear and ventured out; and it is GREAT! being FREE of the condemnation of the Bible, which after all, was written by man.

I just checked four versions of this verse (King James, Revised Standard, Phillips Modern English and New English Bible) None of them state it EXACTLY as you quote it.
What version were you refering to? Everytime Man translates or interprets something, it seems to pick up small changes…. how can you be so sure what things were first written ? (And consider some Books may have been written much after the time events occurred.)

HFlashman, For Christians, the Bible is the infallible word of God, and Leviticus 20:13 clearly states “If a man…lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman…they shall surely be put to death.” The United States, in their beginning, made the ‘sins’ of Bible either misdemeanors or crimes. Every State had laws which made homosexual acts a crime, but no State made such acts a capital offense. This held sway until the Supreme Court, in its recent Lawrence v. Texas decision, held such laws unconstitutional, in that they deprived an individual of “liberty” (in the 14th Amendment). But that does not mean homosexual acts are no longer a sin, God’s Laws don’t change (Mt. 5:17-19). If a preacher says homosexual acts are now OK, he’s referring to that High Court decision, not God’s Law. The Bible says we’ll all be held accountable for our sins, not earthly law.

Oh, like not eating shellfish or cloven-hoofed animals. How about women should be banished to a special tent when having their menstruation?

How could that be tiny tim? Bush gave us 2 tax cuts, got rid of the marriage penalty on our taxes, increased the deductions for children, etc., etc., the list is long and distinguished. What has this administration done about the economy? Messed up on the Gulf oil spill, forced an unconstitutional healthcare program down our throats (where more than 60% of the people didn’t want!), signed the U.N. Small Arms Treaty (Violates 2nd Amendment), wants to try to push cap and trade, etc., so how can you compare the two? Don’t forget it was the Clinton administration that told the banks they had to give loans to people that they normally wouldn’t do. Bush took office in 2001 the national debt was $5.73 trillion and when Bush left office in 2009, the national debt had increased to $10.63 trillion. That’s a 85% increase of $4.9 trillion. More than all the presidents combined in the history of America. If the last administration hadn’t kept borrowing trillions of dollars from other countries while at the same time cutting taxes, the country would be in the present financial situation.

Before June 12 of 1967 the will of the people had voted to ban interracial marriage in America. That was a bad law. At the time when the ban on interracial marriage was in place, the majority of the people voted for that law. Just because the majority voted for a ban on interracial marriage does make it right. A judge overturned that law. I’m very thankful for you and your husband, that you never had to know what it was like dealing with a law that would ban you from legally marrying to one you love. I do not need the bible. Lets talk about science. The only true scientific homosexual person is a hermaphrodite. These people are born with both sex organs which one is usually removed with in the first six months of birth with the parents making the decision of with the doctors help. Sometimes when the child hits puberty his or her hormones can be more to the other organ that was removed and can cause conflict. This can cause what people refer to as a homosexual. These people do not choose to be who they are they are born this way with medical proof to show for it. This happens in less than 1% of the population. Most are not known because of thank goodness medical privacy. None would ever use the childish phrase coming out of the closet. I know because I have a relative with this medical condition. Unless the people can prove that they are truly homosexual then this is a choice that they made and should not have no special privileges or the lie of marriage,adoption ,tax exemption,medical of spouse. Get a test and prove that they are who they say they are. They complain about the bible because it is easier than listening to the truth of science. If I am to get disability do I not have to prove I am disabled. How in the world did all these people became homosexual since less than 1% of people are born this way. Unless you can prove it, it is a perversion and was legally put that way for good reason.
