Does the new healthcare bill include a hidden tax on the sale of a person’s home?
August 9, 2010 by Bob Livingston
Dear Bob,
I have been trying to find out if Obama’s healthcare bill has a hidden tax on the sale of a person’s home, beginning in 2014, after the presidential elections. There’s an email floating around saying this tax is in the new healthcare bill. If it is hidden in this bill, can you send me the information I need to prove it to be true or false. I have checked with snopes.com and it says it is only partly true. Please help me out. There are far to many things in this bill that the American people do not know about. I believe the Obama-Pelosi healthcare bill, to be nothing more than a cover sheet for the real purpose of the bill. ” Obama’s new tax agenda.”

Dear Larry,
The email is partially correct. The hidden tax provisions on the home are found in the Cap and Trade bill (energy reform bill) that passed the House, but currently appears dead in the Senate. It would require your home meet certain environmental requirements before it could be sold. A government inspector would have to first approve the house has sufficient insulation, proper windows and doors and meets yet-to-be-decided parameters. If it doesn’t, the house would have to be upgraded before the sale could take place.
Best Wishes,
Bob
