Anti-Washington Conservatives Hail Nikki Haley Victory In South Carolina

In the South Carolina Republican gubernatorial primary run-off, state Representative Nikki Haley won the nomination, prompting Tea Party representatives to stress the growing influence of their anti-establishment movement.
Despite allegations of marital infidelity, Haley—who is Indian-American—handily defeated her opponent, U.S. Representative Gresham Barrett, 65 percent to 35 percent. Media reports suggest she surged in the polls after receiving endorsements from high profile GOP members, including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
According to Richard Viguerie of ConservativeHQ.com, Barrett supported the multi-billion Wall Street bailout, which likely diminished his political fortunes. Viguerie issued a statement reminding Americans of his earlier prediction that "Republicans and Democrats alike who support this monstrosity will face the wrath of the voters."
He added that in the current primaries politicians that represent the Washington establishment have been soundly defeated by small government Tea Party candidates.
"This is alarming news for GOP establishment politicians such as John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, and all closely associated with them. The Tea Party steamroller is rolling big government Republicans right of town," Viguerie stressed.
