The First Step To Solving A Problem…

June 24, 2010 by

The First Step To Solving A Problem…

With the recent announcement by the Obama Administration that a Federal lawsuit targeting Arizona’s enormously popular immigration law is nigh, the transparency of the left’s opposition to Arizona’s SB1070 has been made manifest.

During his administration, President Bush talked tough on illegal immigration, but did very little to curb it. President Obama is now going one step further… doing very little to curb illegal immigration while talking tough on those who plan to. Obama seems more interested in developing some kind of Federalized Internal Affairs Division, searching for crime while ignoring the criminals.

The President is trying to recast the debate. It’s entirely reasonable to examine his reasons.

Most of the realities regarding illegal immigration are patently obvious. Virtually untraceable labor pools operating outside the law mean unemployed taxpayers and strained social services. Virtually untraceable routes into the United States mean endangered taxpayers and… strained social and law enforcement services—the presence of abandoned prayer mats along our southern frontier doesn’t mean the coyotes are developing an interest in yoga. A President bent on obfuscating both the latter and former by accusing his opposition of everything short of a return to Jim Crow is the worst of kind of political gamesmanship.

It’s well known that Arizona’s new law—set to take effect late next month—is nothing more than a state asserting responsibility abdicated by the Feds. One would presume most LEGAL citizens would be overjoyed to see a state willing to step in where the Feds are standing down. In fact, SB 1070 is similar not only to 8 U.S. Code Sections 1304 and 1306, but shockingly—CALIFORNIA Penal Code section 834b. The fact that the Brotherhood of Undocumented Onion Pickers has yet to march on Sacramento belies the political realities. The President can hardly risk torpedoing his fellow travelers Pelosi, Feinstein and Boxer by allowing his jackbooted legal legions to extend their L.A. Law redux into the Land of La Raza.

To be fair, the broad-based support for SB 1070 doesn’t necessarily prove the quality of the legislation. I could get 70 percent approval for legislation which would constitute extraordinarily bad thinking: Free BMWs for everyone! Federally subsidized beer purchases! National Throw Something Heavy at Keith Olbermann Day!

OK—that last one has real merit.

The problem we have now is that the majority is right. But the majority lacks power. In the worst kind of twist of fate, the minority has the juice to (to paraphrase Interior Secretary Ken Salazar)—step on the neck of John Q. Public.

And the Feds are going straight to the courts to shop for the appropriate neck-breaking footwear. There’s already a class-action lawsuit in Federal court seeking to halt SB 1070. A rogue’s gallery of left-wing groups with close ties to the current administration is challenging Arizona’s endeavors: the ACLU, the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Network, the NAACP, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and the—I’m not making this up—Malibu Community Labor Exchange. Makes you wonder who’s delivering chalupas to the guys trimming Mel Gibson’s hedges. At the very least, it’s nice to see the NAACP doing something other than waging jihad on Hallmark greeting cards.

Now the Feds are threatening to bring in the heavy artillery. Talk about rigging the game: if Eric “the red” Holder’s goons-with-briefcases bring the heat to Arizona’s doorstep in a Federal courtroom, the supporters of SB 1070 get to pay the lawyers on both sides. Beyond the obvious Constitutional violations of Federal tinkering with Arizona’s law enforcement—hello 10th Amendment—there’s the more troublesome issue: Obama and his thugs are trying to get us mired in a spurious discussion on race in order to cow us into ignoring a blatant effort to expand his constituency.

Throwing the verbal hand grenade of racism is clever, if only because people on the left will always believe it, and are redoubtable and vital allies for an administration which seems bent on becoming a political exemplar of ham-fisted authority. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis thinks illegals have a “right to fair wages.” Actually, Madam Secretary, illegals have the right to be Mirandized (and in a language other than English, even!)

With Obama telling Senator John Kyl (R-Ariz.) that he’s going to lean into meaningful immigration reform only if amnesty is on the table, he’s drawing the proverbial line in the dust: no enforcement now, no enforcement tomorrow, no enforcement forever.

Or at least until this column is printed en espanol. Vaya con Dios!

Until the 1950s, there were no rules or guidelines outlining what the president could or could not do through an Executive Order. However, the Supreme Court ruled in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer, 343 US 579 (1952) that Executive Order 10340 from President Harry S. Truman placing all steel mills in the country under federal control was invalid because it attempted to make law, rather than clarify or act to further a law put forth by the Congress or the Constitution. Presidents since this decision have generally been careful to cite which specific laws they are acting under when issuing new Executive Orders, way i read this is the president can not make law

    • 45caliber

You are correct. But that doesn’t mean he can’t try.

amen, but God determine when the end. and in his time which could be centuries or days. Till he does come we need to do what is right. when we stand up and throw out the quizzlings and traitors in office and return to operating under the constitution nothing is revlent because the constitution is a document written by God through the founding fathers. we have let God be removed from our government and we let it happen by voting for antiAmerican and antiGod politicians. November we need to do the right thing and throw out the bums. And impeach obame the pre antichrist.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

    Is it too late?

    • Ruby

      I certainly hope not.

    • Ellen

It is not to late, Christ even saved the one who repented on the Cross. I to know with Christ, we always have hope & salvation. Our lives/world need Prayer, we are not alone.

Debt we have and debt will increase! Sorrows we have and Sorrows will increase. Illegals and Liberals will continue to bleed the coffers of Government until America declares bankruptcy as a Country! Then our “beloved” government can re organize our currency to align with the rest of the world and enjoy their reign of the New World Order! right up until God wipes the smirk off the smiling faces of the infidels who have chosen mortal MAN as their king and saviour. While I and others who have trusted in a risen Saviour (Christ) should not be here for the destruction. Have hope! be glad! the end is near! Look up! for your redemption draweth nigh.

    • Jean

Dear Hoss, I agree with all you said. This is Gods country and he is not going to let it fall completely. Yes there are hard times coming but if we trust in the Savior and do our best to please him, he will protect us and we can be happy no matter what happens. After all he is with those who love him.

bp, I pray all the time, especially for America!

    • Dan-o

The destuction is moving swift and we don’t like it. events are being put into play where there will be no turning back and we will complain, do what we can to slow the process, but in reality we are buried with debt and are so busy working long hours just to keep are heads above water, so yes all we can really do is pray that through this God will protect us from going through more than we can handle.
As the end times may be near, the only important thing is to know where eternal life will be, so get your house in order and pack bags.
oh ya you can’t take anything with you from this world so forget the bags.

      • 45caliber

The indentured servants (slaves in the North prior to the Civil War) were kept as slaves until they paid off their “debt”. Supposedly it was seven years but the owners could go to court with faked up costs and get it changed. The servants were to pay off their costs of transportation to the New World – even if they didn’t volunteer to come here. And most didn’t. In actuality, they also had to pay off their food, clothing, shelter, etc. which the owner priced at 10-20 times the real value.

We are basically in the same fix now. Either due to the “easy” credit that encourages us to borrow more now or to the government running us so deeply into debt and then telling us we have to pay it off, we are basically indentured servants.

But only the workers are. Those on welfare or who work for the government in guaranteed jobs for the rest of their lives are not the ones who have to worry about it. The ONLY secure place to work is for the government since that is the only place you know they won’t fire you unless you shoot your boss.

    • eddie47d

Tasteless comment for you really don’t know your Bible and are using it to mock others. The Bible says “to welcome strangers from other lands into your homes (community) and even feed them”. The Bible isn’t talking about someone who assults you or steals from you but for those in need. Liberals are Christians too and Jesus wasn’t so biased. So please don’t poison the well.

      • JC

It also says an eye for an eye…

      • JeffH

an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot

      • Kim McGough

JC and Jeff H but, Jesus changed that teaching, and taught forgiveness even for your enemies

      • JC

And I WILL forgive them…just as soon as they get back on their side of the line. But for now, I’m tired of the crime rate that arrived with these people and I think God should help sort them out…in Mexico.

      • angel-wanna-be

Kim, as Christians, we are to pray for our enemies first.

      • 45caliber

I’m sorry but I think you are NOT a Christian. You are just trying to belittle real ones. Go away.

      • bp

eddie47d; What “tasteless comment”? What is the Bible reference? As always, you are short on facts.

      • eddie47d

I quoted that verse about a month ago so it really doesn’t matter since no one pays attention. I’ll be in church tomorrow how about you?

      • Kim McGough

Well Eddie you say liberals are christains too. Only God knows for sure, but when a person does not stand for what is right, and votes for things that the Bible teach against, or a political party that is opposed to Biblical princables, it would be very hard to consider them Christain

      • eddie47d

Alot of Conservatives (dems and reps) vote for destructive wrong headed wars, corporate greed, abusing illegals in their business for profit, and look at all the environmental abuses.I don’t think any of those are supported in the Bible.

      • Allan

Criminals and those in need can’t be separated when both ignore the law.

  • Marilyn

All November 2nd’s, VOTE! All American Citizens still have that FREEDOM. Some Citizens will vote for some senator who has been in office far too long and thinks he/she lives there. We NEED terms of office for all offices. The President’s office was limited to two terms. We can do the same for all who are supposed to represent and protect the people’s rights. No more wheeling-dealing Fat Cats on “Capitol Hill.” These people create legislature then expect the American Citizens to bail them out.

I personally support Arizona’s new law! If other States do not have similar laws, then they need to get on board and follow Arizona’s lead.

    • 45caliber

Just to make you happy, one of the Democratic Congressman has a bill in Congress to do away with the term limits on the President. He said that Oblama was doing such a good job that it was only fair to give him the opportunity to serve as long as he wanted to serve.

Bobby Jindal (Louisiana Governor) needs to take a page from Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s playbook, instead of waiting for any help from this Administration. Until Obama stacks the Supreme Court, the nine Justices must uphold a state’s right to protect itself from federal incompetence and indifference.

  • thefedupamerican

Well according to the news this week the whole point of the AZ law may become moot as Obama is apparently considering giving amnesty to all illegals via Executive Order. If that happens, the country is lost….

    • Barbara

Well if the current occupier of the oval office does grant amnesty where will they live?
The only place the illegals could live would be on federal lands.
Unfortunately all federally owned lands are in the western states. Have you noticed that after a certain date all newly incorporated states had to give the federal government all lands not owned by private citizens. Which is why the eastern states do not have any federal lands. I digress.
If amnesty occurs congress must immediately vote and rescind the executive order. Is this do able; I don’t know but it would an interesting case.

      • eddie47d

They would live in the cities where they now reside or on the farms where they work. If they still have jobs.

      • 45caliber

One of the big government costs each year is buying more land for the government. Guess why.

      • JC

And sinse the government is in place merely to represent we the people…the land belongs to us. It’s public land.

      • 45caliber

Not entirely. There are several “Wildlife refuges” in our area. Only special “volunteers” can enter. One group tried to get the government to buy up an additional 50,000 acres of “old timber” in this area and set it aside so ONLY their bird-watching club could enter it. They could more easily see the birds and could increase their club enrollment.

      • JC

Hmmm…well,If the government, which produces nothing, uses our tax money to purchase land…they must be doing it on our behalf!
        There! lol ;)

  • Wlmitch1

The State of Arizona should assemble a well-regulated State Militia and place it under the control of Governor Jan Brewer. The Arizona State Militia should then overrun the section of Arizona that the Federal Government has advised U.S. Citizens not to enter. All the illegals should then be captured if possible. The Arizona State Militia should have orders to shoot to kill any illegals who threaten or attack them, since that would be an act of war against the State of Arizona, and ultimately, the United States of America. The Arizona State Militia should also patrol Arizona’s southern border with Mexico, and vigorously enforce border security.

Those illegals who are drug dealers, drug runners, human traffickers, and gang members, should be tried for felonies in Arizona State Courts, sent to prison if convicted, and then bused to the border after they serve their sentences, and sent back across the border to Mexico. Illegals who are convicted of murdering U.S. Citizens should be executed. Terrorists should be handed over to the U.S. Military. All other illegals should be temporarily placed in detention camps until they can be sent back across the border to Mexico.

If U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder sues the State of Arizona, then the State of Arizona should counter-sue the Federal Government for at least $250 billion for violating States’ Rights. If all four border states did all of the above, the Federal Government could potentially face lawsuits totalling $1 trillion.

    • 45caliber

First, it is only money and the feds don’t worry about money. They just print more of it.

Second, the Feds take the stand that if the person is from another country, it is illegal to defend yourself from them. The only one who can arrest and prosecute is the Feds – and they won’t. If you shot one of them, you can bet your least sentence would be life. They MUST show the other countries of the world that they have a great justice system here and that they are willing to protect the citizens of other countries should they “visit”.

  • james

Just put a couple of apache helicopters on the border to patrol it, that would scare anyone trying to cross.

    • JC

The Kenyan, says “No we Can’t”

    • 45caliber

Only if those helicopter pilots had permission to “discourage” anyone trying to cross. And at the moment, they can’t get that permission.

  • http://Personalliberty.com Ben Crystal

    Good morning all:

Another salient point worth examination (another column begins to spin amidst my cobweb-cluttered mind, perhaps?)

Illegal immigration contributed to a monstrous jump in the Phoenix/Tucson crime rate. Sheriff Joe Arpaio, for whom I have nothing but respect, engaged with every legal method at his disposal. Arpaio’s efforts were well-rewarded and deservedly celebrated.

Except by the same wingnut leftists who now decry AZ1070.

Food for thought, my friends. Dig in.

    Ben

    • JC

Ben, that seems to be what too many overlook…Crime.
The crime rate that comes with the Mexican Insurgency is overwhelming.
And sinse when do Americans not have the right to live in a law abiding society? Sinse when do States not have the right to enforce law?
The drug gang Zetas, is operating with impunity and we’re supposed to sit back and chant “Yes we can” and wait for the appearance of Hope and Change?
      I don’t think so.
We Americans need to take charge of the situation as the White House
has become an institute of the bizarre and the ridiculous.

    • bp

Ben; This crime has seeped into all walks of life and all states. A friend of mine went to prison on trafficking/smuggling charges because the Mexican’s threatened to kill extended family. It is no joke. They have been filmed (hidden cameras) walking over the border with drugs strapped on their backs. Thank you for your articles and time.

    • eddie47d

Ben: People who aren’t allowed to work and can’t collect unemployment will eventually become desperate and turn to crime. I’m surprised it’s not worse! You also mentioned prayer rugs in your original comment. Where’s the proof of this for if it is true then the border patrol or private citizen would have such evidence. Was it one or two or none? Is it a hoax, hype or recorded fact? Thank You

      • 45caliber

People who DON’T work and draw welfare turn to crime to get extra money that won’t affect their welfare payments. Those who don’t now probably wouldn’t if they didn’t get paid. They would go to churches or family for help like they used to do. So I doubt if it would get any worse than it is now.

      • JC

        In a total fog.

      • JeffH

fast eddie, just because you won’t or don’t know how to do research…this bud’s for you…catch up with the times my man…step up!

        TIJUANA, Mexico, Oct. 26, 2005
        Stopping Terror At The Border
Officials Wary Of Illegal Immigrants From ‘High Risk’ Countries

(CBS) The United States projects a record 4,000 immigrants from so-called “high risk” countries in the Middle East and Asia, will be arrested trying to enter the country illegally this year.

Far more will get through. Add to that Mexico’s recent seizures of high powered weapons, including rocket launchers found in Tijuana, and U.S. officials fear a troubling new threat on our porous southern border, reports CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker.

“If it’s so simple for an uneducated, impoverished laborer to come across the border, think about how much easier it is for a highly trained, well financed terrorist,” warns T.J. Bonner, president of the Border Patrol union.

Wouldn’t a terrorist know this is a porous border?

“Of course,” replies Janice L. Kephart, former counsel to the 9/11 Commission.

“Terrorists will use any means to get here. They are using alien smuggler and document forgers to help move people through Iran and Pakistan and it would only make common sense they would use it again to get in the United States,” Kephart says.

On a visit to the Arizona border, Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo got a firsthand look at smuggling routes.

“We’ve found copies of the Koran, we have found prayer rugs, we have found a lot of stuff written in Arabic, so it’s not just people from Mexico coming across that border,” Tancredo, a Republican, explains.

The red flags are there. One Lebanese native living in Tijuana, convicted of smuggling 200 Lebanese into the United States, some with known ties to Hezbollah, which the United States considers a terror group.
        http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=983951n

And after shutting down more than 30 drug tunnels under the Mexican border, authorities recently discovered the first ever under the Canadian border.

      • JeffH

…just so you know, this is a CBS report…

      • eddie47d

But Jeff, You never believe CBS or the other networks so why would you believe them now? Or are they your useful idiots when it suits you? As for Tom Trancredo there is nothing he says that I believe.Cow dung is more believable! Now I’m not dening the CBS report so don’t get your panties in an uproar.

      • Allan

How in the hell do you function as a parent or leader of any kind if you can’t stand up for right and wrong? And how many prayer rugs would it take to change your world view? Answer: 0 x 0 = 0.

    • 45caliber

Many of those sneaking in come here with the intent to rob until they get enough money to retire and then go home. A friend of mine had his house robbed. About a month later he was asked to come and see if he could identify any goods of his. There were four large boxes of gold jewelry they had to go through. The crooks were saving the gold to take home with them.

He was told that the criminals would be kept for about six months to close as many burglaries as possible and then sent back to where they came from at our expense. And they would immediately be turned loose. They would take a month or so to visit family and then sneak back across the border again. The police for forbidded to do anything else – unless they killed someone.

  • Ellen

It sounds to me as though Arizona needs to seriously consider secession. Why should the people of Arizona be forced to pay ANYTHING in legal fees to be brutalized by a government that is charged with PROTECTING its people?

This government is not listening and has no intentions of ever listening to the people. They’ve stolen our money, our jobs, our freedoms…..what is left? As someone posted, they have NO credibility and certainly no authority for 95% of what they do. Why pay any more attention to them? If every state seceded (oh, what a dream!), who would the slime have to push around? I think the idea of secession needs to become a top priority for the several states.

    • Barbara

Careful. That is why Lincoln fought the Civil War. He was ignoring the 10th amendment. He did not care if there were slaves. He did not want the southern states to succeed.
If Lincoln had cared about the black people he would have freed the northern slaves along with the southern slaves.

      • 45caliber

You are quite correct. In fact, there were about 1200 slave owners in the South – and far more in the North (except they were called indentured servants). 300,000+ Southern soldiers did not die to make these 1200 slave owners richer. Slavery was used in the North to encourage the young men there to join and fight the South. Several years after the Civil War those Northern soldiers realized what slavery was like in the North and raised enough Cain that they were finally freed. The Emancipation Proclamation was put out to try to encourage the Southern slaves to revolt and cause trouble behind the Southern lines.

      • DaveH

That’s right, Barbara, but he needed the Slavery issue to rally the people to fight for the Union.
What are the Liberals going to use to rally their people – The fact that they can no longer ride on our backs? How horrible of us to do that to them.

      • Allan

Check your history here…state law controlled slavery at the time Lincoln became President. States had to voluntarily abandon it. He detested slavery and worked within the legal framework to create the Emancipation Proclamation. He said: “I am naturally anti-slavery. I can not remember when I did not so think, and feel.”

      • http://www.boblivingstonletter.com/ Bob Livingston

        Dear Allan,

You are lost in PC history. I urge you to study further because, though Lincoln may not have remembered it (a convenient memory lapse I’m sure), his words are written down for posterity.

He promised to support the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, saying: “when they remind us of their constitutional rights [to own slaves], I acknowledge them, not grudgingly but fully and fairly; and I would give them any legislation for the reclaiming of their fugitives.”

He defended in court a slave owner whose slaves had been smuggled away in order to get those slaves returned.

When asked during the war what he wanted to do with them once they were freed he said, “Send them to Liberia, or their own native land.”

Finally, his Emancipation Proclamation did not free the slaves in areas the North controlled. It freed them in the South, which was still under the rule of the Confederate government–therefore freeing nobody.

In his inaugural address he said, “I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.”

Lincoln cared not one whit about the slaves until it became politically expedient for him to do so, when the issue would galvanize Europe’s support of the Union rather than the Confederacy.

I urge you to read “The Real Lincoln” by Thomas DiLorenzo and educate yourself about what a progressive, dictatorial freedom-crushing tyrant Lincoln was. Judge Andrew Napolitano also addresses Lincoln and what he did to subvert the constitution in his book, “The Constitution in Exile.”

Read those and let me know if you have the same opinion of “The Great Emancipator.”

        Best wishes,
        Bob

      • Ellen

        Very well said, Bob.

      • Allan

Thanks. I will be glad do some reading on this. Because there are conflicting quotes, my impression is Lincoln changed with time, much as Jefferson, Franklin, and other founding fathers misgivings about slavery. I recently visited an extensive exhibit of Lincoln’s speeches and Presidential documents, many of which I read. I did not perceive him to be an insincere man. In the final analysis, Lincoln gave his life as a result of ending slavery as the economic foundation and culture of the South.

      • Allan

        Hi Bob-
I usually don’t write long comments, so I apoligize in advance. I’ve been reading further tonite…I think Lincoln is being oversimplified in this thread, and choices being taken for granted in hindsight. To me it borders on reverse political correctness.

Perhaps it is easy to pick out certain quotes and say today that Lincoln failed to act decisively and morally to end slavery when he became President. Removing slavery was not a simple matter. There were acts and agreements in place in border and other states, and compromises and ratios to determine whether slavery would be allowed in new states that were being added. Congress was consumed with these events. The South had become stronger economically via the cotton gin, and thus in Congress. The Constitution had originally grandfathered-in slave trade until after 1800. Lincoln came to power during a time of extreme tension between states and within Congress, and competition for influence in the new states.

As the country headed toward war, Lincoln saw his first priority as saving the Union and the Constitution. That is very clear in his writings. Seems to me most folks on this blog would have agreed with him. He felt that ending slavery needed to take a back seat to saving the union, even though he had said in speeches and editorials back to the 1840′s that he did not personally approve of slavery. You mentioned a case where he defended a slave owner. I note he also defended a slave. He felt he had to walk a fine line within the patchwork of state laws in the days of trying to stave off war, and even once it had begun in order to maximize support. He also believed he did not have constitutional authority to end slavery.

As the war progressed, as Union generals began to incorporate black soldiers, as border states become more sympathetic to the union cause, and as the tide turned against the South, Lincoln’s writings reveal he felt more empowered to act on his personal feelings about slavery. He changed his position of non-interference to one of emancipation. Emancipation HAD to be limited at first due to existing legal arrangements. Historian Eugene H. Berwanger says: “During his presidency, Lincoln took a reasoned course which helped the federal government both destroy slavery and advance the cause of black suffrage. For a man who had denied both reforms four years earlier, Lincoln’s change in attitude was rapid and decisive. He was both open-minded and perceptive to the needs of his nation in a postwar era. Once committed to a principle, Lincoln moved toward it with steady, determined progress.”

There had been a movement for many years to send blacks back to Liberia. This was not Lincoln’s idea. It was a widespread sentiment ultimately debated by Congress after the war. Many argued ex-slaves would face more hardships if they stayed.

Lincoln’s letter in 1864 to politicians who resented the Union’s recruiting of black troops reveals the conflict he felt between his duty and his beliefs (‘the measure’ refers to the emancipation proclamation): “I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. I can not remember when I did not so think, and feel. And yet I have never understood that the Presidency conferred upon me an unrestricted right to act officially upon this judgment and feeling. It was in the oath I took that I would, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. I could not take the office without taking the oath. Nor was it my view that I might take an oath to get power, and break the oath in using the power. I understood, too, that in ordinary civil administration this oath even forbade me to practically indulge my primary abstract judgment on the moral question of slavery. I had publicly declared this many times, and in many ways. And I aver that, to this day, I have done no official act in mere deference to my abstract judgment and feeling on slavery. I did understand however, that my oath to preserve the constitution to the best of my ability, imposed upon me the duty of preserving, by every indispensabale means, that government — that nation — of which that constitution was the organic law. Was it possible to lose the nation, and yet preserve the constitution? By general law life and limb must be protected; yet often a limb must be amputated to save a life; but a life is never wisely given to save a limb. I felt that measures, otherwise unconstitutional, might become lawful, by becoming indispensable to the preservation of the constitution, through the preservation of the nation. Right or wrong, I assumed this ground, and now avow it. I could not feel that, to the best of my ability, I had even tried to preserve the constitution, if, to save slavery, or any minor matter, I should permit the wreck of government, country, and Constitution all together. When, early in the war, Gen. Fremont attempted military emancipation, I forbade it, because I did not then think it an indispensable necessity. When a little later, Gen. Cameron, then Secretary of War, suggested the arming of the blacks, I objected, because I did not yet think it an indispensable necessity. When, still later, Gen. Hunter attempted military emancipation, I again forbade it, because I did not yet think the indispensable necessity had come. When, in March, and May, and July 1862 I made earnest, and successive appeals to the border states to favor compensated emancipation, I believed the indispensable necessity for military emancipation, and arming the blacks would come, unless averted by that measure. They declined the proposition; and I was, in my best judgment, driven to the alternative of either surrendering the Union, and with it, the Constitution, or of laying strong hand upon the colored element. I chose the latter. In choosing it, I hoped for greater gain than loss; but of this, I was not entirely confident. More than a year of trial now shows no loss by it in our foreign relations, none in our home popular sentiment, none in our white military force, — no loss by it any how or any where. On the contrary, it shows a gain of quite a hundred and thirty thousand soldiers, seamen, and laborers. These are palpable facts, about which, as facts, there can be no cavilling. We have the men; and we could not have had them without the measure.

["]And now let any Union man who complains of the measure, test himself by writing down in one line that he is for subduing the rebellion by force of arms; and in the next, that he is for taking these hundred and thirty thousand men from the Union side, and placing them where they would be but for the measure he condemns. If he can not face his case so stated, it is only because he can not face the truth.["]

I add a word which was not in the verbal conversation. In telling this tale I attempt no compliment to my own sagacity. I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me. Now, at the end of three years struggle the nation’s condition is not what either party, or any man devised, or expected. God alone can claim it. Whither it is tending seems plain. If God now wills the removal of a great wrong, and wills also that we of the North as well as you of the South, shall pay fairly for our complicity in that wrong, impartial history will find therein new cause to attest and revere the justice and goodness of God.” Yours truly, A. Lincoln.

My point is let’s put ourselves in his shoes, respect him for saving the union, protecting the constitution, helping to end slavery, and even laying down his life for these causes.

      • http://www.boblivingstonletter.com/ Bob Livingston

        Dear Allan,

Respect Lincoln for saving the union? I think not. His policies resulted in the death of 700,000 people, the destruction of the Southern culture, a war on innocent civilians. Besides, the founders recognized the right of secession (dissolution). As James Madison wrote: “Finally should all the constitutional remedies fail, and the usurpations of the Genl. Govt. become so intolerable as absolutely to forbid a longer passive obedience & nonresistance, a resort to the original rights of the parties becomes justifiable; and redress may be sought by shaking off the yoke, as of right, might be done by part of an individual State in a like case; or even by a single citizen, could he effect it, if deprived of rights absolutely essential to his safety & happiness.”

The only reason Lincoln wanted to “preserve the union” was so he could preserve the taxes coming in from Southern crops–particularly cotton.

Protecting the constitution? Suspending habeas corpus, dissolving state legislatures, shutting down newspapers and imprisoning their editors, nullifying the 10th Amendment and violating the Coinage Act of 1792, and the 3rd, 4th and 5th Amendments. I could list more usurpations.

Again, I implore you to read the references I cited above. You are reading Lincoln apologist historians.

        Best wishes,
        Bob

      • JC

Lincoln detested slavery? I don’t think so. he simply used the issue as a means to start a war with the legally seceded states and get them under the control of the Feds and the International Bankers.
Lincoln, despite the way he has been painted as a hero was either a tremendous opportunist or a pawn…but a Great President(?) is merely a propogandist slant of history.
He never did grant the slaves of the North freedom…so much for your theory.

      • Allan

Would he be on Mt. Rushmore if he were simply an opportunist or pawn?

      • JC

Yes indeed. The best lie is a big lie.

      • Allan

        Hi Bob-

In my opinion, to say it was all about keeping the south’s revenue stream coming to the North is oversimplification, and relies too much on conspiratorial impulse.

The north bought the south’s cotton, so the economies were intertwined. Average people on both sides did not think much about slavery. Slave owners in the south had become dependent on one crop by choice, and wanted to maintain antebellum culture. Any threat to slavery would undermine their position and way of life.

This motivation fueled the debate of States versus federal rights. Since the Revolution there’d been two camps. With the creation of the Constitution, states lost the ability to pick which rights and acts they would support, so the debate moved toward secession.

The fight over new states escalated through the Missouri Compromise of 1820 (when Lincoln was 11), the Compromise of 1850, and the Kansas Act of 1854.

Northerners became more polarized against slavery with the publishing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the Dred Scott case, and John Brown’s raid, and the passage of the fugitive slave act that held individuals responsible for harboring fugitive slaves even in non-slave states.

By the time Lincoln was elected, things had come to a head. He was not pulled back into politics easily. South Carolina considered Lincoln anti-slavery and issued their “Declaration of the Causes of Secession.” Before Lincoln was even president, seven states had seceded from the Union: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas.

That was the setting. Picture yourself in this incendiary situation. How would you have handled it? Personally, I don’t think any President in modern times would have fared better than Lincoln.

Today’s issue with illegal immigration seems eerily similar. We have people talking about secession, even armed resistance. We have people saying give amnesty to the illegals. There were millions of slaves and there are millions of illegals. There are industries dependent on the labor costs of illegals today. The big difference is that illegals are integrated everywhere and surreptitious, and do not abide by the law of our land. Because our government is also not abiding by the law of the land in this matter, I support what Arizonans have duly decided.

      • Ellen

Barbara: That was NOT why the civil war was fought. See Bob’s post below.

I still maintain that secession may be a good option. From the top down, they do not listen to us and have no interest in it. Who really has the guts to actually stop paying taxes? Even if we did find the cajones to stop the extortion, they’d just print and borrow more and more and take the rest via inflation.

I have the very uneasy feeling that obummer will, by whatever illegal means at his disposal, create amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens and continue to do nothing about the wide-open border and pass his crap and rape scheme that NO ONE who has any brains at all, wants.

They’ve just passed the illegal “Disclose Act” in the House. If this passes in the Senate, what do we do? Continue to roll over and let them finish the destruction of the U.S. before anything MIGHT be done after November?

What better solution can you come up with? I am interested in what you may suggest.

      • Allan

There were multiple reasons for the Civil War. Barbara is right that secession was a major issue. As I explained above, seven states had already seceded before Lincoln took office. The alternative was two countries, one with slavery and one without, plus a patchwork of slavery or freedom in new states. I believe America would look more like Europe or the Balkans today if this had happened, and we would not be here talking about how to preserve the Constitution. As far as slavery goes, Lincoln opposed the Crittendon Compromise in 1860, which would have added six amendments to lock in slavery, one of them guaranteeing that slavery could never be terminated. I don’t know how anyone can read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address or his 2nd Inaugural speech, two of the most important speeches ever given, and have any doubt about Lincoln’s overall position on slavery.

As far as states seceding today, I see an out of control federal government creating this climate, and my reading of Lincoln is he would be sympathetic.

One other interesting fact is that the liberal Democrats in the North who opposed the Civil War were not in favor of ending slavery. The push for abolition came from conservative Republicans.

    • bp

Ellen; There is another way. We could stop the funding for all this madness; STOP PAYING ALL TAXES; a true Tea Party Rebellion. What would “they” do then? They can’t jail us all. :-(

      • DaveH

Nice sentiment, BP, but most of us don’t pay our taxes directly.
Even if we did, they would just run the money-printing presses and tax us the inflationary way.

    • 45caliber

There was a push at one time (and may still be for all I know) to break up the US like Russia did. One of the main offical reasons was that we owed too much money and by dissolving the US the debt would simply vanish.

The idea was not that each state would leave; it was that regions would. The breakup was something like: New England, the South, the Mid-West, the Southwestern states, the West Coast, the Northern states, and Texas. Several groups would also get their own countries; Alabama was suggested for the blacks, Florida for the Cubans, Arizona for the American Indians, etc.

It takes three things for a country to be prosperous in our time now. Those are: a strong population, raw materials, and a strong military presence. Only Texas has all three although California does come close – just not as much raw materials.

      Luckily, I’m in Texas.

      • Allan

How about we give progressives their fair share of land and money, take all their weapons away (since they believe in that), and then finish the border fence around their land, so that when they run out of money and ideas, they can’t steal any.

  • GOP Girl

I love Obamma. Every day he makes it easier and easier for Republicans.

    • JC

The Republicans need an overhaul too.

      • JeffH

JC, simply all of DC needs an overhall…the libs don’t uderstand that and stout Republican’s don’t understand it either…

      • JC

Absolutely. We need “thinking” Americans. Not “loyalists” to parties.

      • 45caliber

Actually we need to encourage all our blind libs and close minded Republicans to go to Washington for a big meeting of some sort. Then Iran can nuke it. That would help both countries – at least at first.

      • JeffH

        mmmm, food for thought…

      • Allan

I’m convinced it doesn’t matter who is sent to Washington. Until Congressional REFORM takes place, there is too much opportunity for corruption. Issues come and go, as do candidates. If we want actual change, we need candidates to sign pledges to change congressional rules and practices.

      • JeffH

Allan, I can embrace those ideas…

  • Toni R

    Here’s another website taking a poll: http://world-news.newsvine.com/_question/2010/05/12/4274124-do-you-support-arizonas-tough-new-law-on-illegal-immigration
I think it’s funny that even though 96% of those polled believe the AZ. law is a good thing, when it comes to casting votes, somehow its not enough to pass the law. Can anyone figure that one out?
If I lived in AZ, I would vote for it. I live in TX and I could only pray that they put this law into effect here. I feel if they want to come legally, then do so with the understanding that YOU WILL SPEAK ENGLISH OUTSIDE THE HOME, YOU WILL FLY THE AMERICAN FLAG PROUDLY, YOU WILL ABIDE BY THE AMERICAN LAWS, AND YOU WILL ONLY BE ENTITLED TO THE THINGS YOU HAVE HONESTLY EARNED JUST LIKE ME OR YOU CAN GO BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY. My great grand parents came here legally from Italy. They stood in the long line in NY to get documented. They took the oath of honoring the USA and abiding by her rules. They worked for what they had, they spoke English inside and outside the home. They only spoke Italian inside the home. They did not demand anything from anyone. They earned respect from their neighbors and town. They made an honest living, paid taxes. They saved their hard earned money to buy land and a home.
What makes these latino’s any different than my Italian ancestors? NOTHING!
Food stamps and social security are for those who have rightfully earned it by working LEGALLY and paying into it. Scholarships are for those who have earned it because of what they did, not for being a certain nationality. My child was not able to apply for several scholarships because he was not of hispanic race, because his parents didnt come here illegally and he wasn’t having problems speaking English. HELLO??? does anyone see a problem here? He had a gpa of 5.367, graduated 11th in a class of 900+, and yet was only granted 80,000.00 in scholarships. Nothing to sneeze at and we are grateful for that amount, but there was one kid, who’s parents aren’t legals, and somehow he is, received over well over $150,000.00 in scholarships because it was all meant for Hispanics ONLY. I don’t get it.
I have no objections to anyone coming here LEGALLY. I have a sister in law who came here, LEGALLY, from the Philippines and I dearly love her. She,too, is so amazed at how these illegals can get away with anything and everything they want and that we are catering to their every demand.
What is our governments problem? I say impeach every one of them in the white house, state and local government and lets get some real, law upholding, same as you and me, who work for me, people there, who will hear our voices and listen to us.

    • JeffH

Toni R, I guess you are aware that “newsvine” is the liberal website for MSNBC…

    • JeffH

Toni R, I guess you are aware that “newsvine” is the liberal website for MSNBC…and they have a 96% favorable vote for the Arizona SB1070…that’s amazing!

      • bp

JeffH; It will be interesting to see how MSNBC misrepresents this poll. I just voted, along with l.5 million others, and 95% are with Arizona! Stay tuned……

      • JeffH

bp, keep me up to date as I’m no longer welcome on the Newsvine blog…

    • eddie47d

Good post.I hope you want all those involved in creating this problem impeached also (too be fair). We could go way back and really stir up the history books. Presidents Johnson,Nixon,Ford,Carter,Reagan,Bush,Clinton,Bush and Obama. The ringleader should get the worst punishment. Whoever allowed the most to come over the border illegally. Obama wouldn’t even be in the running. My bet is on Reagan but maybe not.

      • bp

eddie47d; FYI, Reagan is no longer alive. That means he’s dead.

      • bp

eddie47d; …..so are Johnson, Nixon and Ford. You cannot rewrite history, but you do have the opportunity to move forward and look ahead.

      • JeffH

..can’t we just hang the ones that are still living? Sounds fair to me!

      • DaveH

It’s one thing for the president not to do his job. But, it’s quite another to actively seek to prevent others from doing the job.

      • Al Sieber

eddie47d, your president’s a liar, he said during his campaign he would close the borders, he lie’s about everything. he’s also a traitor to his oath of office and the people of the U.S.. is the 47d after your name your bra size, or your I.Q.?

      • eddie47d

Keep stretching the truth little Al. Obama started the Southwest Border Initiative within his first year. There are now 20,000 border agents which is quite a few more than Bush deployed. His administration has seized more drugs, cash and drug runners than at any time in our nations history.(all past Presidents). That’s hardly an act of a President who is doing nothing. You’re loathing of Obama doesn’t cut it. If you want faster progress go buy some instant tea.

      • planoguy

Yeah we see how Obama is working the border. SAYing you will do something and actually DOING it are two different things. We see how crime is up, deportations down, drug traffic up, US government refusing to do it’s job…. SOmething to be REALLY proud of!

  • J.M.R.

WELL SAID MICHELLE I USE TO BE A OVER THE ROAD TRUCKER WAS IN ARIZONA A COUPLE OF TIMES,LOVELY STATE PHOX. WAS A CLEAN BEAUTIFUL CITY BUT I WOULD HATE TO SEE IT NOW AS ITS BEEN 15 YEARS SINCE I WAS THERE

  • Michelle

To make matters worse, they are actually filing the suit against a law placed into effect in 2007 which Janet Napolitano signed (yes, DHS Secretary). They want to get rid of the provisions that penalize businesses for hiring illegals as well as the use of E-Verify. Arizona used to be part of the Federal task force to assist with the illegal immigration problem, but once Janet Napolitano moved from Governor of AZ to DHS she removed part of the state from that program – the part that Sheriff Joe was involved in. Anything that is working they remove! Other states are now also being to live in the world of illegal immigration that Arizona has been living in for at least 20 years! Those of us in Arizona have been living with this threat for that long while the rest of the country still believed “these were just families that wanted a better life.” WRONG! They have taken over our neighborhoods, businesses, schools – everything. They have not assimilated into our society but expect us to change for their benefit. Just looking around we have to wonder what country we really live in! For CITIZENS to obtain jobs you have to speak Spanish. Billboards and signs are written in Spanish ONLY! My grandson had to ask his teacher to speak ENGLISH. This must stop, but Obama, McCain and rest of the progressive won’t do it. Now even Mexico is suing Arizona! What right to they have? They don’t care about the citizens of the US – they’d rather protect the criminals. Guess they are protecting their own.

  • J.M.R.

well when we have a illegal running our great country you can’t expect much from the dick-tater. we need a leader that will enforce the laws with force and conviction. but he’s a spineless ass hole. he want the U.S.A. to become mexico. if gets enough of the lower scum in this country then he will be the supreme one. as i have said before he would not make a pimple on a real preidents ass.

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Iran is still detaining the 3 hikers who crossed over their boarder last July. Wow! Other countries have extremely stiff penalties for those who violate their boarders! It is also my understanding that Mexico has much stiffer laws than we do.
I support Arizona. Those idiots running our country need to start listening to the people. They are so far removed from the average American, that they are clueless. Perhaps they need to camp out on the Arizona boarder, you know, take a vacation with their families. They are much to high and mighty to admit that the problem is the illegals. One foot into America makes them illegal and law breakers. It must be stopped.

    • Bonnie Dishong

Everybody’s fussing about the Fed’s suing Arizona over their new immigration law. We are all going to be part of the North American Union soon enough already. We don’t need borders then. We don’t need a constitution because a new one for the three us will be formed. Just google it. And by the way, I am sick about all of this and will do all I can to stop this from progressing.

      • http://Personalliberty.com Ben Crystal

“..We are all going to be part of the North American Union soon enough..”

Bonnie, I do believe I can speak for most – but not all – of the Personalliberty.com participants and faithful readers of the Bob Livingston Letter when I say:

No (HELL no) we are not.

Have faith, ma’am. Change is coming. (The worthwhile kind.)

        Ben Crystal

      • DaveH

Maybe Obama is going to push that in the other direction. That is the dissolution of the United States since he can’t seem to play by the rules of the land (the Constitution).

    • eddie47d

      National I.D. cards anyone!

      • JC

Naw, driver’s licenses, birth certificates and passports have worked well all this time, why bother? Let’s just not give those kinds of ID to illegal aliens…or insurgents from the south.

  • Al Sieber

If Fed. law mirrors state law why is Obama gonna sue us saying the Ariz. law is unconstitutional? any liberals care to answer that? I can’t wait until July when the scumbag “Al I’m gonna sue Sharpton”comes here. he’s gonna “cook” up good in the hot July sun in Phoenix, him and George Soros funded, racist La Raza, the Nazi party of the Mexican socialists, Ah…, La Raza, the race, everything for the race, and nothing outside the race. make’s me want to really have these people around. busing in protester’s from L.A., the northern capital of Mexico. I hear the fascist dictator of Mexico is filing a lawsuit against Ariz. too.

    • JeffH

Al, don’t forget the SEIU…it’s pretty pathetic that the POTUS has to threaten “his” country with lawsuits rather than support existing law…it’s my understanding that Arizona is still waiting for the assigned 1200 NG troops to it’s border. More empty words from the un-American POTUS.

      • angel-wanna-be

JeffH, yes, the Arizona border is STILL waiting for 1200 troops, one of the Sheriffs from the border appeared on Fox News last night, complaining they hadn’t recieved the help yet__That is Just Pathetic and this Administration is a Political joke, at the expense of the American people!

    • eddie47d

Your on a racist roll, thanks for coming out of the closet. LaRaza is not a racist organization, any more than the Polish Club or the Irish Highlanders. LaRaza National org. doesn’t believe in open borders just decency towards all who labor and want fair treatment. (no racial profiling). That is against the law in 24 states. A case in point is Eduardo Caraballo who was demanded to show his immigration papers and didn’t have any. He spent 3 days in jail although he is a U.S. citizen. They did arrest him because he looked like an illegal (spanish).

      • JeffH

fast eddie, ignorance seems to be something you cherish daily.

The nation’s television screens many days recently have been filled with scenes of huge crowds carrying the colorful green and red flag of Mexico viewers could well have thought it was a national holiday in Mexico City.

It was instead, downtown Los Angeles, Calif., although the scene was recreated in numerous other cities around the country with substantial Mexican populations. Hordes of Mexican expatriates, many here illegally, were protesting the very U.S. immigration laws they were violating with impunity. They found it offensive and a violation of their rights that the U.S. dared to have immigration laws to begin with.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa mounted the podium, but any hopes that he would quiet the crowds and defend the law were soon dashed. Villaraigosa, himself, has spent a lifetime opposing U.S. immigration law.

For those who know the truth about the “La Raza” movement, these demonstrations were a prophecy fulfilled.
For law-abiding Americans without knowledge of the dark side of our current illegal immigration crisis, all this is unfathomable.

The Council of La Raza succeeded in having itself added to congressional hearings by Republican House and Senate leaders. And an anonymous senator even gave the Council of La Raza an extra $4 million in earmarked taxpayer money, supposedly for “housing reform,” while La Raza continues to lobby the Senate for virtual open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.

Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we are Aztlan. For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.”

That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: “For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing.”

Incidently, it is ILLEGAL in Mexico for any person to display the Mexican flag EXCEPT for the Mexican army and government buildings. All those people in LA, for instance, broke the MEXICAN laws.

      • JC

Thought you saw an opening there didn’t you eduardo?
Al’s not a racist, but YOU can’t wait to pull that tired old mule out of the shed and trot it around. It’s so old and so boring.
Al’s right though, when a group who means you harm is flying under a banner of “race”, they’re racists…or maybe “reverse racists”.
Either way ignoring the fact does not gain you any moral ground.

      • 45caliber

Boy, have they got you fooled!!!

La Raza wants the entire southwest returned to Mexico. All Americans are to give up their property which would be divided and deeded to Mexicans ONLY. That includes things like cars, clothes, etc. Their argument is that it once belonged to Mexico and still should – that it was “stolen” from Mexico. Never mind things like the Gadston Purchase, the Californios who bought California from Santa Anna, or that the “Mexicans” in Texas fought for its independence just as much as anyone else did. They even want to deny the Louisiana Purchase.

      • bp

eddie47d; Impossible. If Eduardo Caraballo is a U.S. citizen, where was his I.D.? If he is LEGAL, he would have a green card or visa. Only an ILLEGAL RESIDENT ALIEN has no documentation. LA RAZA means “the race”; therefore, again, who is the racist?

      • Al Sieber

eddie47d, you really are a mental midget, and ignorant too. La Raza means the Race, in Nazi Germany they called themselves Der Volk, figure it out. you liberals like to shout down your opponent by calling them racists. thanks for the support you guys, it saved me a lot of typing.I see they passed the “disclose Act”. Obama is now the supreme Dictator, the end of freedom of speech etc….

    • 45caliber

Al: They are still trying to come up with a reason the laws there are unconstitutional. So far they are still looking. But I’m sure they will find something sooner or later that the liberals on the SCOTUS can say is unconstitutional.

45caliber; POTUS’ argument is that border security is a federal responsibility, and not a state jurisdiction. How ironic is that?!!!!!

        I know. Funny, isn’t it – considering he won’t.

Have you seen the video or heard Senator Kyl of AZ about it? According to Kyl – and I believe him – Oblama told him in a one-on-one meeting that he couldn’t secure the border because if he did Congress wouldn’t be able to pass his amnesty bill. In other words, according to Kyl, he is holding the border hostage to get his bill passed.

      • DaveH

Obama is refusing to do his job. That is a flat out impeachable offense. But his fellow criminals in Congress won’t allow that to happen, so it’s up to the voters in November to rectify that situation.

      • JC

If we make it to November that is.

Eight Republican senators and an independent group that supports tighter limits on immigration are warning that the Obama administration is drafting a plan to “unilaterally” issue blanket amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants as it struggles to win support in Congress for an overhaul of immigration laws.

The senators who wrote the White House on Monday say they are concerned that the administration is readying a “Plan B” in case a comprehensive reform bill cannot win enough support to clear Congress.

        http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/23/lawmakers-warn-administration-plan-unilaterally-grant-blanket-amnesty/

I guess the low life Kenyan is fine with the rape and murder of Americans. Who knows…maybe it’s just a way of life where he comes from, but here it is a shooting offense.

  • derVenerschnitzel

Our President ia a ruthless racist… and sees the issue purely in terms of race. Security be damned. This is an issue to deliver a payback to his political adversaries and their families.

    • http://personallibertydigest jim

Is he a racist against his black father or his white mother?

      • David

His white mother. Haven’t you read his comment about his mother?

      • http://personallibertydigest jim

No I haven’t. So he hates half himself? If you believe that, no wonder you can be manipulated into believing all the other conservative tripe. Sounds as logical as the old “The slaves are better off being slaves. They wouldn’t know what to do otherwise” logic. Alot of people thought that type of logic was obvious at the time.
The conservative movement has some good points. But when it uses silly things like this (with a straight face) main stream America is very suspicious of the rest of the agenda.

      • bp

Jim; BHO denies half of his heritage, even though he was raised by his mother’s family (!), therefore he is ANGRY! This is not “conservative tripe”; this comes from his autobiography. READ IT! Please.

      • Glenn

Racist or not, you tell me.
Obama told Cataldi that “The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a TYPICAL WHITE PERSON. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know (pause) there’s a reaction in her that doesn’t go away and it comes out in the wrong way.”

      • DaveH

        Jim,
Maybe before you shoot from the hip, you ought to do a little research.
From Obama’s book: Dreams of my Father

“I CEASED TO ADVERTISE MY MOTHER’S (WHITE) RACE AT THE AGE OF 12 OR 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites”

” I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER’S (WHITE) RACE”.

“The emotion between the races could never be pure…..THE OTHER RACE (WHITE) WOULD ALWAYS REMAIN JUST THAT: MENACING, ALIEN AND APART”

” I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER’S (WHITE) RACE”.

      • JeffH

Oh DaveH, there you go with the facts again…you know liberals don’t respond to the facts…

      • Claire

My money will never purchase a book written by a politician, I never bought Obamas books and I sure as heck won’t buy any of the others. I know all I need to know about all of them.

      • JC

Would he’s a Muslim who is against America be sufficient to answer your question? And did he even know his mother?

  • Jim G.

I have been in many different nations, including Mexico, and NO WHERE are the immigration laws enforced less than the United States. In Mexico for a long time even U.S citizens who were legal were not allowed to own property. ANY and ALL elected or appointed officials who refuse to fulfill their oaths of office should be at minimum removed, and possibly indicted for malfeasance in office.

Malfeasance in office is defined as : official misconduct n. improper and/or illegal acts by a public official which violate his/her duty to follow the law and act on behalf of the public good. Often such conduct is under the guise or “color” of official authority.

That includes the President, and ALL United States Justice Department officials, as well as MOST Mayors and Police Chiefs from the United States.

    • Barbara

The problem is try to define malfeasance. Those who voted for the current office holders will defend his change polices. We who see the destruction of the U.S. and the ignoring of the constitution; have a narrower definition.
Unfortunately, this congress has no back bone. Most probably because they could also be brought up on like charges. (Remember how Clinton was charged but was never punished.)
Until we get a clean sweep of members I do not see any major changes occurring in the federal government.
The additional problem is the career bureaucrat. His job and retirement is at stake. Actually he has more power than the elected because he was either appointed or passed the civil service exam. He is now in a position to push his personal agenda. Just try to remove an entrenched bureaucrat.

    • bp

Jim G.; “Malfeasance defined as : official misconduct n. improper and/or illegal acts by a public official which violate his/her duty to follow the law and act on behalf of the public good.”
Sounds like grounds for impeachment. Where do we begin? The DOJ or the legislative branch will not initiate proceedings against B.O. Hussein. How do WE THE PEOPLE do it? 70% are on the same side of this issue. Sounds like a majority to me!

  • s c

The main problem in dealing with the ILLEGAL ALIEN issue is in the hardened concrete between the ears of the twits in the White House and most of the career yahoos in Congress. The American people understand the roots of the problem, where and when it started, who continued it and who’s continuing it NOW.
When Uncle Scam REFUSES to do his job [and ESPECIALLY when "God" is in the White House], then you might as well assume that if the Constitution hasn’t been completely destroyed, it’s very close to that point (compliments of the many no-talent sobs in BOTH major political parties).
When government doesn’t listen, it does NOT exist. It has no credibility. It has NO right to govern. Those who support this non-functioning government knowingly aid and abet it and are just as GUILTY.
It’s not that hard to understand, unless you’re under the influence of those who have taken part in a long series of Constitution-destroying behavior that stretches back to the early 19th century.
Some people can be proud of ANYTHING. That’s how a country gets people like Benedict Arnold, Alger Hiss, criminals of every sort and braindead, freedom-hating progressives.
Et tu, SLIME. Your masks are coming off. Do you really think that a government that hates freedom will protect YOU when YOU have to face reality and STAND ALONE?

    • 45caliber

The libs believe that the government is all-compassionate. And if it isn’t, since they support it, they expect it to give them a pass while it hammers all their enemies.

One of the comedy things about this belief is that the military will ALWAYS support the government. And since the liberals believe that all volunteers to the military are prospective/frustrated murderers, they won’t join and dislike all military and vets. 90% of the military are conservatives. One in Eight are from Texas. (Military figures given to “Military Moms” by the Army.)

      Go figure.

  • Bender

Sadly, nationally subsidized beer purchases are already a reality . . . it’s called Food Stamps. We are in real deep trouble.

    • Laurie

Beer can not be purchased with food stamps. No alcoholic beverages or nicotine products.

      • Informed

Yes they can buy alcohol in california with food stamp money. My son work in a grocery store, half of their food stamp money can be spent on cigarettes and any kind of alcohol. The state issues food stamp cards (like a debit card) now, no more coupons. They are issued two cards one for food and household products only, the other one can be used for anything they like.

      • Smilee

The anything you like card is a welfare card not food stamps

      • Glenn

        only semantics you meat head

      • Jana

It’s all welfare. We don’t want them wearing themselves out by working now, would we?

      • TIME

Its trure Laurie the EBT card is only a part of the equation, you also have in NY the $400.00 per month CASH for snokes and beer etc.

The NY EBT cards pay out about $1200.00 per month for food now, here in GA, they pay out $950.00 per month to EBT and $300.00 cash for smokes and beer, all housing is paid for so is the electric, water, and cable TV, oh and Cell Phones too!
And now there is the computer program, as well school cloths.

So a family of one Mom and three kids brings in $3800.00 per month for just food, Housing again FREE and Phone, Cell Phone cable TV, and cloths, and a computer – Plus $300.00 for beer and smokes.

You may ask how do I know any of this, easy I have been a BIG BROTHER for the last 25 years and have seen it all.

I just had my 4th little guy Graduate High School, his mother left him after I was working with him for 6 months, as in she left him on my door step at 6 AM on a Sunday, he has not heard from nor seen her in 10 years.

It cost me many dollars to get him we have brought him up to be a FINE Young Gentleman who by the way will be starting school in the fall at Cal Tec, his grade were so good that he has a full ride. I still set him up with a Trust account over 10 years ago so when he gets out of school he can start his own Biz if he so wishes.

I have treated him like he was my son and we both love him to death he is a Great kid!

      • Allan

        Hats of to you sir.

      • Jana

        TIME,

You are a good and kind person. God bless you.

    • Joe

This is how your message gets whacked. People will believe that statement that beer is subsidized by Food Stamps because they are too stupid to actually seek the truth. Do you really believe your own statement?

Most of the comments in here bear very little truth. Ignorance breeds the same.

      • Jim H.

Hey Joe, Have an unsubsidized beer and lighten up.

      • Informed

Joe read the above facts. Both drugs and alcohol are subsidized in our Country. Were do you live Disneyland?

      • Smilee

Not through the food stamp program, if your talking corporate welfare that’s different

      • CT

Does it really make a difference? It’s all taxpayer money being used/abused.

      • independant thinker

While food stamps may not be used to buy alcoholic beverages directly those on food stamps somehow find plenty of money to buy beer, whiskey, and wine. By extension food stamps allow the people using them to buy alcoholic beverages.

      • Palin12

I’ll never forget the time I saw some pathetic creature chewing out a clerk in the 7/11 for not letting her buy cigarettes with her food stamps, calling her every name you can think of.

      • 45caliber

        independent thinker:

You are right. Several years ago, in Arkansas, there were several people arrested for trading in food stamps. One dealer was even caught selling cars for food stamps. The government got suspicious when a convience store started turning in millions of dollars in food stamps when their total business was far less. It seems a couple of people had bought the store and used it to take food stamps and cash them. They would give cash (about 50 cents on the dollar) for the stamps from people or businesses.

And I once saw a woman driving a new Caddy wearing a full length mink coat (in July) who bought four baskets of food at a store for food stamps.

      • DaveH

First of all, Joe, they could just do a trade with a friend to get the cash for the booze.
But, secondly, if you are going to be so nasty to somebody, how about providing some referential proof for your accusation?

      • Allan

Have broom and dustpan, and will travel to clean up every time a crazy liberal policy is exposed.

    • bp

Bender; And this is in reference to what? Alcoholic beverages and cigarettes cannot be purchased with Food Stamps. How does this contribute to the ILLEGAL RESIDENT ALIEN (not immigrants) debate?

      • JeffH

        …good point bp…

      • Jana

There are a lot of illegals around here and you would be surprised how many have these food stamp cards. They pay with them proudly. They also flock to the free clinic.
My girlfriend’s Dr. sent her to the free clinic because she needed a shot that only they provided.(This was a surprise to me about that). She couldn’t get in because of so many illegals needing services. Finally she ended up getting an appointment to get in. She had to pay by the way.

      • 45caliber

Not necessarily true. You can’t use them to buy new cars, either, but I know of people who did and were arrested for it – especially those selling the cars. Further, some states allow a certain percentage of the money they give to be used for cigarettes and beer.

      • Palin12

This issue of illegals has GOT to be addressed.. Whether via individual states, which I currently support, OR via the Fed Govt..I have never, nor will ever accept anmesty.. It happened in the past and never has worked..

The backlogs encountered by the former INS would choke even the best computers currently in business..

Best opt, arrest, temporarily detained, then deport without regard for any legalities of law.. Create and operate a national data base which would be filled with current and previous deportees and allow such to be accessed by all lawful enforcement agencies as well as businesses/private persons that may even THINK of hiring an unknown..

Further, provided for easiest of access to the SSA data base to determine legality of SS information submitted by job applicants..

Heavily fine businesses found to have hired such and make the fines sting like hell.. Close those business with repeated violations and sequester the funds of the owners to preclude using such in their defense as such may have been gained via this and other nefarious activities.. Such is currently done for drug busts..

When placing suspects in detention, place them in the most obscene conditions known to exist within our borders.. Any thing better would tend to invite them back as conditions are far worse in foreign lands..

Prohibite anchor babies.. Those borne here by chance, should NOT be allowed to remain nor be a reason for parents to stay.. For me and many others, it MUST be MANDATORY that your parents were legal American citizens before YOU can be declared likewise.

There are a multitude of ideas and methods that MUST be used.. WHY NOT DO SUCH??

Sooner OR later, they’d get the message

It is totally obvious that the one world government and or Illuminati/Freemasons all worship Lucifer and want to annihilate all Christian countries. The Chinese Russians and Muslims and one world Government and even the higher ups in government here in America are all apart of this globalist Agenda. Some are of the Illuminati but many are also just plain liberals who are pawns in this one world government chess game. The globalist want the unintelligent liberals and minorities to populate the USA as statistics prove that the majority of the time they vote democratic and or communist or for the globalist Agenda, without even realizing it. The Globalist have the minorities convinced that they are actually intelligent voters with a vision of change and integration when the real vision is theirs destruction of Israel and America. This invasion and deception is phase one of the war and to make us a divided house that cannot stand so that many leaders can stay elected that are traitors to America and Israel. Phase two is when enough traitors are in power and America is disarmed we will be destroyed. Americans are so stupid they can only see the enemy when its right in front of them but due to the dumbing down of America the average American cannot deal with deception. Sun Tzu said the art of war is deception and a once mighty America no one would attack but once they have weakened us enough from within then an all out attack will be launched at us from from Russia and China and a whole host of other nations. The bad news is most of us will die the good news is the Christian God will end up killing all of Israels enemies. There is nothing to argue about for time itself will bear me out to be right just wait and then if you don’t die to quickly you will see!

If O-ham-a would divert just 1/4 of his supposed rage against BP to actualy stopping illegals from crossing toe border the problem would be solved.

      • Jana

        independant thinker,
And they are already reporting that the drug cartels from Mexico are startiing to threaten the police and Federals ie the Border Patrols in Arizona, the same as they are doing in Mexico.
They are bringing their illegal activities across the border to our country.
There are even warning signs on around 3500 acres of American soil that tells us it is not a safe area and not to go there. Now why wouldn’t it be a safe area???? Well duh, it isn’t safe because there are too many illegals comng into this country in this area and the drug cartels are taking advantage of this fact and bringing in drugs AND they are using guns to do it as well as their threats to not only the Border Patrols and police, but to their families.
Does Obama care?? NO! He does not care about anything but his agenda. He thinks that is why he was elected to office and that is to put through his agenda. To keep this country safe from our enemies was part of his pledge and is in the consitution, but he has no intentions of following the constitution or following his sworn duties. By his very actions he shows great disdain for the United States of America.

  • Ginger Ambrosio

Hey there! I just want to say that I am proud that I know you! (sort of, hahaha) anyway, I was told there was some kind of poll being taken regarding general opinion regarding Arizona’s plan to enforce the law… I don’t see any links. but I am all for ALL of America taking back our country… not just running out obamas’ hordes of slackers (sic).. but ALL of them in office who we elected, trusting they’d be in our best interests and are really just lining their pockets like most all the others. I guess that’s all I want to tell you, I am 67, I remember an America that had respect for God, respect for women and respect for each other… I guess it’s impossible to hope for that anymore, but I still hope for a return to truth. I know, its a BIG dream….

Yesterday on Fox they reported Obama’s plan to grant amniesty by executive order, thereby giving all illegals a fast road to citizenship, and tying the hands of congress where they will not have any say in immigration.

    • Joe

Well Ginger I guess if you are 67 and remember such fond respect in our country then, you must be white and you must have not lived in the south. I am sure the black americans who lived in alabama have different recollections of respect for women and for each other back then. What will your kind remember 67 years from now.

      • Al Sieber

What the hell are you talking about?

JOE!!! “Your Kind”! Are you kidding me?! We are all Americans and we are all at risk of losing our beloved country as we know it. If you don’t like it, as I’ve said before, your passport is honored almost anywhere in the world. Love the U.S.A. or leave it. I assume you must be black to make such a statement. I say to you, get over yourself! The Chinese also came here without belly-aching or marching in the streets. Yet, there is now a China Town in most cities! They have assimilated and prospered. Why can’t you?! I am sick and tired of your whining, complaining, and “white” hatred. If this makes me a racist, so be it. I’m an AMERICAN first.

      • Smilee

        WOW

How many Chinese where dragged here and then sold on the auction block??? Very different history with the blacks. I agree with Joe, Oh and I am white

      • Doug

Not to many they came on their own, their kinfolk did not sell them like the blacks do. And guess what it still goes on today. Man you need to read more history if you don’t think the Chinese weren’t prosecuted racially.. and mistreated.. And maybe you should know that in Africa slaves were really treated harshly by other black slave owners.. slavery and racism is bad in any form.. by any race.. this era was a bad mark on our history as was expansion to the west and taking the native American land and mistreating them.. look at the history of other lands & cultures.. you will see injustice, slavery and slaughter of some kind in EVERY one!

First of all Smilee, I don’t believe you are white. Sorry, but I don’t believe much of what Liberals say, unless they can back it up.

Yes, Slavery is wrong. So, tell me why do you stump for a party that still believes in it? Slavery, Theft, and Taking other peoples’ money against their will are all pretty much the same thing. It took time to earn that money. Even the southern slaves of bygone days had time to themselves. They weren’t working 24 hours a day. So, Smilee, before you whine to me that it isn’t the same thing. Tell me how much unwilling labor does a person have to give to cross that magic threshold into being called a slave?

      • Allan

Why don’t you go to Africa and start harassing blacks for selling blacks? Perhaps you could inform them they are racists as well. There were always two kinds of kids when I grew up. The ones who pointed at others when held accountable, and the ones that actually contribute to society.

      • Claire

Bud–The Chinese were abused way back then. Now look at the situation-it has turned around. America is in debt to China.

      • TIME

        Smilee,
I am black so whats your point? The Chinese were killed after they built the brailroads by the “UNION Leaders” who encited the mass of Unions workers to kill them why – just for being differant, AKA RACISM and the Progressives WHERE THE ONES WHO GAVE THE ORDER.

The Japanese by the way I was brought up by an American Japanese family who spent the better part of 3 years in a Holding Camp during WW II, They lost their Home and business to the Progressive FDR who was a 100% Racist.

When I see you people who have little to no idea what has happened here in this country it makes me sick, you all think that Marxist are all ok, well lets do simple math on the low side.

The Marxist by the way of the world have killed and exploited no less than 200 Million people. Now thats sick!

In Africa alone in the 1970 – 1990 the Marxist trainers from Cuba, China and Russia are responsible for the deaths of no less than 20 million Black Afircians, do you here a single word about it on CNN, or MSNBC, or CBS, NO you don’t.

Or that aids was invented by the Progressives and injected into countless Black Africians to see how fast it could kill the mass’s.
Evere here anything about that on your nightly news?
        Hell NO you don’t.

So learn your history and learn not to repete it.

But if your a Progressive or a Marxist you are not worth the air you breath, And you are the problem not a solution!

      • kate8

All this constant talk about who was used and abused and when, how and for how long…and how “whitey” now must pay. Like now it’s our time to suffer and the hands of other races.

Geez, how long must we live in the past. All races are historically guilty of holding slaves, and some still do today! Why does everyone except whites get a pass? Because they don’t know any better?

In the middle east, whites were abducted, often by pirates, and taken into slavery. But that is okay?

Whites also abolished slavery in Europe and America, and shed blood to do it.

Aside from all that, none of us alive today ever held a slave, or ever was a slave. We had no part of it! But what you are saying is that because we are of a certain race, we either deserve compensation for our ancestors, or we must compensate because of them.

That seems to me to be even WORSE racism.

Wouldn’t it serve us all better to stop looking back, living in the past, and look forward instead, to create a world that is better for us all? A world where we all respect one another, regardless of ancestery?

Can’t we all just be okay, being who we are today?

      • kate8

Just like Mexican Americans, legal and illegal. They get paid about the same as they did in 1980. They had to pick 4,000 lbs. of tomatoes to make $50.00. Could you live on that? Eduardo…There’s no such thing as an “Illegal” Mexican American.

      • DaveH

Eddie, did somebody force those Chinese to come here? Is somebody forcing the Mexicans to come here? Both were/are happy to be making as good money as they can here compared to their homelands.
However, it is obvious that you Liberals hate the immigrants, as you are doing everything you can to destroy our economy, so they won’t want to come here anymore.

      • J

bp I can’t agree more I love all people until they start there fill sorry for me.

      • Joe

Hey BP, White boy here with a sense that we are all created equal except those who are racist hateful people. Get over yourself too. I love that you assumed I am black, it just proves my point.

      • JC

Just another liberal racist throwing just another racist tag around.

      • Joyce

Careful, Joe, your stupidity and prejudice are showing. Race is not an issue, but love for our country and greatfulness that some politicians over the years have tried to even the racial score is. Ever hear of Sharia law? That’s what’s on tap for America if all of our citizens (black, white, brown, green, polka-dotted, etc.) don’t stand TOGETHER for once and try to beat this fast-spreading cancer of hatred, destruction and “fundamental transformation” being carried out by the enemies both inside and outside our borders. Our own glorious president is taking us back to the good old slavery days with his own brand of racism, but this time black and white will be sharing the same yoke. Once Sharia law kicks in, guess what kind of respect we (and especially women) will get then!

      • Tman

        WELLLLLLL SAID!!!!!!!!

      • J

Well said Joyce we all need to be reminded once and a while we have to stick together.

      • Joe

Do you wear your white hoods when you meet?

      • Ruby

I’ve always said that whoever brings up race first, is indeed the racist! And, no, I’m not white…I’m hispanic/latina.

      • DONTTREADONME

RUBY IF YOU SAY IT, IT MUST BE TRUE. YOU BROUGHT UP RACISM BEFORE ME SO I WIN, YOU ARE THE RACIST!…. NEENER! NEENER!

DO YA SEE THE IGNORANCE YET? STOP IT…JUST STOP IT! YOU ARE A SHEEP, OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE THE REAL ISSUES AND HELP OTHERS TO SEE THEM AS WELL. WE ARE AMERICANS(WELL, MOST OF US ARE)SO GET OUT YOUR PITCHFORK AND GO TO WORK AGAINST THE TRUE ENEMIES OF OUR LAND. FORGET THE WHITE-BROWN SQUABBLE BEFORE WE ARE ALL ENSLAVED. THIS ADMINISTRATION DOES NOT CARE WHO IS WHITE OR BROWN OR WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ONE OR THE OTHER; THEY CARE HOW THEY CAN PROMOTE AND USE THAT FEAR AGAINST US, ALL OF US!! PLEASE, IF YOU VALUE YOUR FREEDOM, OPEN YOUR EYES!!

      • Jana

        don’ttreadonme,
I think you misunderstood Ruby. She was commenting on Joe’s reply who did bring up race.

    • Dorothy Reynolds

You know I’m a 66 year old white woman, from Virginia, I’m ashamed to say the good ole boy network which ran the country had no respect for women, they believed they should be pregnant and be in the kitchen, and God forbid not think for themselves, they should parrot them. If ypu were not a White Anglo-Saxon Prostant, you should not have a voice in anything. Thank God my father thought we should think for ourselves, weather he agreed or disagreed with how we felt on a idea or view.

Is the what you want to return to?

      • Smilee

        Dorothy

I’m 68 and I remember it as you described too. My parents like yours encouraged us to think for ourselves and also showed us that is what they did. Today there is to much programing of the human mind and to little teaching them to use their mind through analytic thinking.

      • DaveH

Are you attacking the Public Schools, Smilee?

      • Barbara

I am 60. Like you, my father was always willing to listen as long as you were polite and not obnoxious.
We live in the north west. So my growing up had different experiences. We had a very liberal pro communist senator who was willing to sell the U.S. out. They preferred “better red than dead”. An attitude still espoused by the liberals.

      • Jana

        Smilee, Barbara, and Dorothy,
So you see, not all of the women were treated that way. There have always been men that are afraid of a woman gaining any knowledge or having any kind of control over her own life, but not everyone felt that way.In fact, there still are plenty of men around that are afraid that they will lose control. These men are pathetic.
My daddy took my mother down and had her borrow $300. from the bank under her own name. They put it in a CD at the bank and in 6 months when the CD came do, so did the bank loan. She paid it back and a little extra, but had gained some credit experience in her name. They kept doing that until she had a good credit report.
When I got married I did the same thing. My husband went with me as I was timid back then, so I have some good memories too. Not everyone is bad, just the same as not everyone is good.

      • Jana

I do know how to spell, the CD came due, not do.

    • JeffH

Ginger, welcome aboard, this website contains some very passionate posters and a few liberal poster that will try to race bait, such as Joe’s remarks to goad you in other directions. Joe like some others come here to distract others away from the point of the discussions.
This happens often enough just through general conversation.

    • John Claydon

IMPEACH a president who will not protect and defend U.S. sovereignty?

      • JeffH
      • bp

John Claydon; His Oath of Office includes “to protect and defend”; it is his first and foremost DUTY. Yes.

      • bp

John Claydon; ….and to “uphold”, that is, honor, the Constitution and, therefore, State’s Rights.
