New Documents Show Kagan Backing The Clintons In Whitewater Case

As investigations into the legal writings of President Obama’s latest Supreme Court pick continue, evidence has come to light that suggests Elena Kagan strongly backed former President Bill Clinton in the Whitewater case.
The case involved a congressional investigation into allegations that Clinton and his wife were involved in illegal real estate deals when he was serving as governor of Arkansas.
As a top lawyer in the White House counsel’s office in 1995 and 1996 Kagan wrote several memos and letters in which she contacted Clinton’s supporters asking them to write positive opinion pieces about the president that would appear in national newspapers, according to CNN.
She also argued in support of Clinton’s rights to confidentiality as president in the Whitewater case and in a later sexual harassment scandal.
The revelations came after the Clinton Presidential Library in Arkansas released 42,000 new pages of files.
Kagan is currently serving as United States Solicitor General, and was nominated by President Obama in May to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court.
