S.C. Democrat Who Faces Felony Charges Will Not Drop Out Of Senate Race

S.C. Democrat who faces felony charges will not drop out of Senate race South Carolina’s Democratic Senate nominee Alvin Greene said last week that he will reject his party’s request that he drop out of the November election race.

The state’s party chairwoman Carol Fowler asked Greene to withdraw from the race after news surfaced that the 32-year-old unemployed veteran faces felony obscenity charges for allegedly showing graphic internet photos to a college student. If convicted, Greene could face up to five years in prison.

"I believe strongly that the Democratic voters of this state have the right to select our nominee," said Fowler. "But this new information would certainly have affected the decisions of many of those voters."

Greene, a virtual unknown in the political realm, shocked Democratic leaders by garnering 59 percent of the vote to defeat veteran legislator Vic Rawl, who had already begun to plan for the general election, The Washington Post reports. Apparently, Greene had done little campaigning, did not raise any money and does not even have a website.

In response to his unexpected victory, Representative James Clyburn (D-S.C.) speculated whether Greene was a "Republican plant," and openly questioned how the unemployed veteran obtained the $10,400 filing fee.

"There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary," Clyburn said on the liberal Bill Press radio show. "I don’t know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone’s plant. Somebody gave him that $10,000 and he who took it should be investigated, and he who gave it should be investigated."

    Does anyone want to believe that Etheridge will serve any time for this assault or that he will lose reelection? If his district is heavily Democrat it isn’t likely he will be forced to step down. After all he isn’t a Republican who can be made to resign just for looking at a Democrat the wrong way, it seems. My opinions, of course, which seem as valid and moreso than some on this forum.

    Now people what do you all think of NC Congressman Etheridge’s actions where he committed an assault & battery, he hit the young man in the face for no reason at all. He also hit the young man who was filming thus two counts now.

    And due to the fact that he held the young mans arm even after being asked to let go of his arm many times – he also commited Kidnapping!

    But then he compounds it buy his agressive holding the young man under his arm and against his body – thus commiting molestation.
    And just for the record as its all on film.

    I would have his butt arrested so fast it would make his bent little head spin.

    So thats two counts of Felony assault, and Felony Kidnapping, plus a Felony of Molestation.
    Thats an easy 25 years in a nice clean prison and again its all on flim!

    If you live in NC get your butts out and vote this scum bag out of office!

    Greene won the democrat primary election while having been charged with obscenity. At least he did not assault a college student on camera after being asked if he supports the Obama agenda. That would be obscene and provocative. Democrats should be proud; take ownership of your election result and celebrate your diversity while your being ridiculed and laughed at by the rest of the country. Own it folks!!!

    There was definitely an effort to steal the election in Florida in the year 2000, but it was not made by George W Bush.

    (#1) The Dade County Democratic Party issued a booklet on various ways to invalidate a military absentee ballot because active duty military votes overwhelmingly Republican. Thousands of military personnel, people who should have their votes counted first, the men and women serving their nation overseas, were disenfranchised by the very same party that whined “every vote must be counted” for their own purposes. Were it not for this and those legitimate votes had been counted, Florida’s vote would never have been an issue in the first place.

    (#2) Left-centered CNN called the election for Gore before the polls were closed in the Republican-majority districts of the Florida Panhandle (Central time zone), depressing the vote for Bush by perhaps 10,000 to 12,000 voters who did not go to the polls because they thought the election was over anyway. Had CNN not done that, there would never have been an issue in this election at all.

    (#3) The recounts on the ballots in the Democratic Party’s bastion counties of Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach continued to produce a Bush victory so they kept counting them until they could manage to obtain the “dangling chad” result they wanted (exactly as they did with Franken’s “victory” later).

    (#4) The Supreme Court decision did NOT say Bush won the election, it simply directed Florida to either recount the ballots in every county or to stop the recounts altogether because the continual processes in just three Democratic counties were a clear violation of the 14th Amendment’s requirement for equal protection under the law. Based on that, the last tally had Bush the winner and that was the declared result.

    (#5) Four months after the election, USA TODAY and the MIAMI HERALD (definitely not bastions of the vast right wing conspiracy) obtained the ballots and hired a company to count them again and the result was that Bush won by about three times MORE votes than the Florida count with which he had been credited.

    So every time I hear the “selected not elected” mantra, it comes from somebody whose knowledge of the issue is confined to Democratic Party talking points. You can make a case for political underhandedness in the other elections won by a candidate who lost the overall popular vote (John Quincy Adams 1824, Rutherford B Hayes 1876, Benjamin Harrison 1888) but there’s no way to fault Bush for his win in 2000.

    It was the other party that was trying to steal the election and they are simply angry to this day because their criminal activities were unsuccessful. They dragged the country through two months of misery, which Nixon, for all his many faults, refused to do after the 1960 election and the Mafia-stuffed ballot boxes in Chicago. Gore’s last gasp was all about power for him and his anger because he was not given the White House after he thought his party had stolen it for him fair and square.

    So please, if Democrats want to complain about “W” for anything, choose any of his failings in his presidency, but for pity’s sake, carping about the 2000 election because their efforts to steal the election came up short is foolish and tiresome.

You reminded me that the Supreme Court did not declare Bush the winner but that they told the Florida election officials they had to count the votes in all the counties, not just the populous, heavily Democrat counties in south Florida. And the Minnesota election of Mr. Coleman was invalidated by the endless recounts that Al Franken’s people did through dirty tricks. Hopefully the Minnesotans will vote overwhelmingly against Franken if he runs again. Mr. Coleman was a much better person that Franken and served his people well, but he is a Republican in a Democrat state.

    The Democratic party is doing everything that it can to shield the fact that this was clearly a mandate against Clyburn and the Democratic Parties elitist attitudes. They will spin this in every direction that deflects from the truth. This was a major defeat for the politics of the Democratic party as Clyburn was the third ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives.

    The voters in South Carolina made a choice and that choice was anyone else, except Clyburn. The voters did not care who Greene was and since he had virtually no campaign they did not know who he was.

      I need to clairfy that Greene was running against Rawl in the Deomcratic primary and Rawl was the canidate supported by Clyburn.

    The question is: Did the young lady want to look at the obscenity pictures? Or, was she FORCED to look at the smut? That aside, is Greene qualified to run for Senate? Is he a fanatic or good old Democrat? Does he stand on the platform of Socialism? Or, does he believe in good, solid economic recovery?

    We vote politicians into office then American Citizens are expected to clean up the mess they make with our tax money.

    I know many races who are very unhappy right now so the thought of a new Senator with a smut background is very scary. We voters are getting more and more savy and involved and refuse to vote for anyone with a known questionable background.

    One thing confuses me about this case. If Alvin Greene is a “plant”, how did he convince 59% of the Democrat voters to vote for him? I haven’t followed this situation closely, but the fact that the challenger got significantly more votes than the incumbent makes me think the incumbent was not in touch with his constituents.

      Rawl was not an incumbent U.S. senator, but had been in the SC legislature for several years and it was presumed he would be the Democrat Senate candidate once the primary was over, but it turned out differently. While hardly any voters in the state had ever heard of Alvin Greene until he won the primary, the Democrat officials did not bother to check him out (vet)until after he won. Then they asked “who is this guy and how did he win”. That is when they discovered he had a record and shouldn’t have been a candidate.
      BTW, it has been reported that many black people are urged to vote alphabetically by pastors or other leaders unless they do know who the candidates are, other than that they have to be Democrats only, of course. Since Greene come before Rawl alphabetically he won. Case closed!
      AS for who paid the filing fee, no one has admitted to doing so. The Republicans had no reason to waste their money for Greene’s filing fee since neither Greene nor Rawl would beat Jim DeMint, the incumbent in November.
      There’s no reason for wild accusations about Republicans or those Taxed Enough Already (TEA)people.

        samurai—my neighbor next door is in the military–he has made the military his career. He and his wife are leasing the house–the house belongs to another military guy that had to go to Afghanistan. Very nice guy and he has a lovely Korean wife. She is a very nice lady. I like her a lot. They have two daughters that are adorable. Very nice people. He told me that he moves about every 3 years so eventually they will move away. I couldn’t ask for better neighbors.

I remember the “hanging chads” issue in Florida. I remember being shown how “hanging chads” are produced, by cheating voters submitting 2, 3, even 5 and 6 cards at once for their vote by trying to punch through all the cards at once. I remember hearing witnesses say that they watched the FEC volunteers take all the voting cards and put them into the vote counting machine. I remember Al Gore’s minions trying to get these vote cards counted so as to improve his chances in each recount. Even with the illegitimate cards counted, there was NEVER a recount, and there were at least 12, that would EVER show Al Stinkin Gore had won. So, stop your whining! You and your ilk are what’s wrong with our country and promote the corruption in DC. We’ve had enough of you and your ilk. You promote intolerance, hatred, and violence, yet try to append your character on conservatives. You are the Enemy within our country. Its also strange that it only took place in the 4-5 mostly lib counties in Florida. How about that state lib judge who didn’t allow thousands of absentee ballots to be counted. Saying that all of them were not filled out right, but in all reality we know that the military tends to vote for the ones that give pay raises. That sure has never been the libs.       Ian apprently doesn’t know that the Democrats perfected their art of stealing elections a couple of decades ago in California when they changed a legitimately won congressional election by convincing officials the ballots needed to be recounted. They (DEMS) got a lot of their own people to go and check those ballots and they’d make sure the Democrats’ names were punched. IF not, they’d take the cards and shake, maybe twist them, in an effort to dislodge more “chads”.

      By that action those evil people stole the election away from the rightful winner. Punch card ballots were fine until then. After the Democrats won with that action in California it served them well in the 2000 Florida election.

      Severl independent recounts of Florida’s election results that year showed that George W. Bush did win by a slim margin. Yet the Democrats wanted to keep counting, recounting, throwing out legitimate ballots of overseas soldiers until finally the U.S. Supreme Court WAS ASKED to intervene. Gore wanted the presidency that he was willing to lie, cheat, and steal in his attempt to get it. He would have disenfrancised, taken away the votes of, the troops serving overseas in order to put him ahead. I doubt George W. Bush would have acted as Gore did if Gore had been declared the winner.

        These voting machines in question have been rejected by 40 some other states. The candidates name Al Green was it? ~ Is a common well known name but not by any “his doing” .

        I guess the question lies in where did a person without two cents to rub together come forward with 10,000.00 in filing fees?

        You might say it doesn’t matter, and maybe it doesn’t. ~ But if that be the case, we will need to go back to the drawing board and create some more laws governing elections. I’d prefer to not go there.

        What has just happen in this election could rise up and bite any party in the a$$ at any time. So the need to understand what happened is great for everyone.

        I don’t oppose Green from holding the office “if” he can serve the people he was elected to serve within some acceptable level. He might well be a great politician, as he seem to carry a strong background for the job.

        Greene should absolutely stay in the race.The Democrats are so afraid that he will win, that they will do anything to keep him out of the race.I have always been a conservative, but it is only in the last seven months that I have come to see how much Obama hates America. Where was he on Memorial Day. He was in Chicago and Illinois. His apearance at the Lincoln Center in Illinois was rained out. He belonged in Washington at the Arlington National Cemetery giving thanks and praise to all the men who gave their lives to give this country the freedom to express their views, to have picnics and to most of all have FREEDOM. I never thought I would live to see a president who has no love for our country and does not want to do anything for its people unless it is political. I saw all the people at the capital on July 4th waving American flags and I was filled with love and pride for our country. I will work tirelesly this November to defeat the Democrats and then defeat Obama in 2012.
