Lincoln Edges Out Halter To Win Arkansas' Democratic Nomination

Lincoln edges out Halter to win Arkansas' Democratic nomination Senator Blanche Lincoln defied the nation’s anti-incumbent sentiment and scored a surprising victory last week in Arkansas’ Democratic runoff election by beating the state’s lieutenant governor, Bill Halter.

The two candidates were forced into the runoff after neither garnered the majority of votes during last month’s Senate primary.

Many political pundits had predicted that Lincoln would fail to win her party’s nomination due to her opposition to the public option in the healthcare bill and her hostility towards labor unions, which actively supported Halter in the primary election.

In fact, party insiders predicted a 10 percentage point loss for Lincoln, according to the Christian Science Monitor. She made a last second charge for the nomination after receiving support from former President Bill Clinton, an Arkansas native.

However, due to the state’s current dissatisfaction with the Obama administration and its allies, liberals and conservatives alike believe that Lincoln will be a considerable underdog in November when she faces off against the state’s Republican nominee, Representative John Boozman.

"Senator Lincoln survived this intra-party war by fully embracing her liberal Washington record, but she faces an uphill battle explaining to mainstream Arkansas voters why she has consistently voted for the Obama-Pelosi-Reid economic agenda in Washington," said Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

    Blanche Lincoln is a bald faced liar. There is absolutely no such thing as a democratic politician conservative. John Boozman will easily defeat her in November. I live in Arkansas and am proud to say I am NOT a member of the Socialist Democratic Workers Party.

    I say more power to her, the unions and the left thought they had more power than they had. A defeat for the unions and the far left is a good day in America. I say ban all the unions in America they are irrevelant in this day and time. They steal from their union workers and use their money for things that most of them don’t agree with. Why
    should any American worker have to pay any union for the right to work.
    They spend the money in these poor people retirement and then beg for government bailout with our money, the ones who make a third of what the union workers make. You tell me that this makes sence. Too all of you who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ I salute you! MEH pensacola.fl

    Someone enlighten me. It seems that a) this is the way people in Arkansas express their dismay with a “lesser of two evils” choice or b) people in Arkansas make it a habit to vote when they’re stoned or drunk.
    Whatever it is, it does seem to be part and parcel of what is so WRONG with politics in general. It’s almost as though Arkansans are experimenting with reality, while the rest of America does a slow burn.
    I’d appreciate an explanation. If this isn’t another politics-as-usual Twilight Zone episode, it’s damned close, and it’s got to STOP.

      This is definately a case of voteing for the lessor of two evils. Bill Halter is called a Washington outsider (he is not he worked in Washington for years under Clinton) but Halter would be a rubber stamp for the party line no matter what its effect on Arkansas. Lincoln will at least occasionaly go against the party line and vote the wishes of the people in Arkansas.
