McCain To Vote Against Military Gay Ban Repeal

May 28, 2010 by

McCain to vote against military gay ban repealFaced with a growing challenge from a right-wing rival for the Arizona Republican nomination, Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) is taking an increasingly intransigent stance on the Democrats’ efforts to repeal the "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy.

McCain, who at one point declared himself ready to see the policy repealed, has now indicated he will vote against the measure.

The former presidential candidate, who is also the top Republican on the Senate Armed Forces Committee, told Arizona’s KBLU radio that the Democrats "[are] going to try to jam [the overhaul] through without even trying to figure out what the impact on battle effectiveness would be," quoted by TheHill.com.

McCain was also interviewed by Family Research Council (FRC) President Tony Perkins on Washington Watch Weekly, the organization’s syndicated half-hour radio show, where he said "that this issue has significant long-term implication for our ability to defend this nation."

He also said he was afraid that the repeal was a done deal "because of no other reason than President Obama’s campaign promise."

The Republican primary in Arizona is scheduled for Aug. 24, and McCain appears to be losing ground to a more conservative opponent. ADNFCR-1961-ID-19802084-ADNFCR

Watch the queers will get special treatment, instead of the no jewerly, and dress code, it will get watered down in a few years. I know of people in all branches of the military in mid 90′s, who got out as soon as they could. The behavior disenigrated happened pretty rapidly when the gays got the go head, pretty hard to maintain order and instill disapline with the relaxing of rules. But nobody shuld be surprised with socialist communist democrats and their mantra in control!

  • Claire

I respect McCain for his service in the military. However, I do not respect him as a man of his word. He, like so many others, flip-flop.
Typical game-changing politician. I do consider him to be a warmonger, and during his campaign he rarely came up with any solutions to America’s problems. He always did what politicians do best–mudslinging. Palin kept his sorry butt alive in the campaign. But neither one of them handled their campaign like they should have. No solutions, no plans for America, only ranting and raving. I truly think they would have been elected if they had conducted themselves with more knowledge about the issues at hand and what they would do to correct them. They needed a plan and they didn’t have one.
He needs to be voted out, he has worn out his welcome.

  • Glenn

McCain is a cheap flip-flopping lib…he must of learned that tactic in the prison camp, tell them what they want to hear…..

    • Bob Wire

No he’s GOP member Glenn and makes bib bucks representing conservatives! They ran him as a Presidential Hopeful! Remember?

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Glenn,
Have you ever been a prisoner of war?? Do you know why Mccain never raises his hands over his head? Try having a broomstick against your back and your arms wrapped around, then said arms lifted on that stick till your toes barely touch the ground. Stay that way for hours till you are numb clear through, then lay in the dark, damp and cold till you shiver uncontrolably. That’s only just a litle sliver of what he went through. Till you have gone through what he has as a POW, don’t judge his record. As a politician, yes, he sucks and he should retire, or just fade away.

  • missu

Besides another lie and flip flop from McCain. He’s proving that since his landslide presidential defeat, McCain became a frustrated, viciously vindictive, bitter old man. That carries a hatred vendetta against anyone that he feels was responsible for his humbling defeat. John McCain is now content on just saying no to everything. Even if it’s beneficial to Arizona and the country. The more that he talks lately the bigger fool he makes out of himself. John McCain is known as a warmonger, but his remark of “pulling the nuclear trigger on Iran”, is going too far, even for a warmonger. John McCain is now the type of senator that gives Washington a bad name.
    JOHN MCCAIN MUST BE REPLACED

  • http://victorbarney@embarqmail.com Victor L Barney

Forget John McCain or anybody else! What I heard on the Glenn Beck show last night proved that the government always has and always will control everything that the media thinks and says until the two-witnesses described in the bible come to punish Israel(seed of Joseph, not Judah) for 3 1/2 years! Now, it finally makes sense! The two-witnesses can not and will not be stopped because fire will come down from heaven and destroy anybody who thinks otherwise! This evil government will not stop them or shut them up until all is accomplished! Perhaps, starting this year on September 9th i.e., Feast of Trumpets(war)! Watch!

    • Bob Wire

      ouch!

  • Ken

I’m amazed at how McCain finally became conservative. The thing is, he cannot be trusted. As usual, he will run right and govern left. It’s easy for him to publicly resist the current bunch of thugs in the White House and Congress. It would be quite another thing if he wasn’t up for reelection. Arizonan’s wake up!

    • Bob Wire

      >>>”I’m amazed at how McCain finally became conservative.”<<<

finally ! that's funny! McCain not "became" anything but what he always been. An undisciplined opportunist with an ego and fair for Hell Mary's and long shots without ready thinking things through, Riding on a Rep, valid or otherwise.

he's toast! he can smell his backside burning. Rather the come up with good ideas he's adopted some, seeking shelter from a sh1tstorm that's coming, hoping to ride it out.

  • http://eachstateretaliate.blogspot.com/ Tea Party Tim

I would be surprised if he expressed those conservative views at home. His wife and daughter would let him know really quick who wears the pants there.

    • Bob Wire

Smack down that Maverick! Ha ha hehe~he!

  • Constance

Or, to have my nose rubbed in their lifestyle!I will never say that same-sex attraction is natural and normal. It is not the natural law! Condoning this is one more nail in our country’s coffin. And, repealing this law will be doing that. Our Lady Mary told the children in Portugal many years ago, that what is right, will become wrong. And she was right.

    • s c

Constance, only politicians, mentally defective social engineers and apostate churches can try to turn natural law on its head. Even Darwin knew enough to know that opposites attract.
Defective minds being what they are, one day it will be possible to marry your favorite pet. And politicians, social engineers and apostate churches will be leading that movement.

      • Bob Wire

I think it a sad day, when people feel required to listen to other people to know whats right or wrong. These notions of basic right a wrong come to us early, without much outside help.

But there is always some ~ that question and wish to test the boundaries.

However, in the matter of homosexuals, it’s more a matter of nature placing the wrong spirit in the wrong body. That doesn’t explain all cases but the majority. It’s our job to accept them as we might any natural occurring abnormality AND that’s very hard for us to accept much less do. ~ That’s why I call it a “job”. They are whole and complete human being and it’s not contagious. They are “givers” by nature and not”takers” above average intelligence and didn’t ask for this social cure. They can’t stop being what they are but only hide it for your benefit, fearing certain rejection and ridicule.

Just understand accepting is not condoning or supporting. When you love people as you were taught, we learn tolerance and look for the good in all things. Look harder! Evidently there are many gays in the military. I’ve heard Lawrence of Arabia and Napoleon were both gay men. I’ve heard Edger Hover was gay. I don’t know it fact and I really don’t want too. It’s really none of my business and doesn’t take away the contributions each gave to history and their fellowman.

      • marvin

bob wire you maybe right but if you belive in god and or have read the bible even god has vary little understanding for gays he distroyed two whole city,s full of them and turned lot,s wife to salt for turning around and looking but that is bible history not liberal history, am i a religious fanatic no do i believe what the bible saz yes,the bible saz it is an abomination to the lord, but you can think what ever you want

      • Bob Wire

Yes Marvin, You are right, in the early books such stories were told of such things and considered wicked. If you remember the story, it’s said that wickedness abound on all level. ~I’ll spare everyone the graphic details, but you get my drift. And for “all this wickedness” God laid waste to these cities.

But along came Jesus that bought the Jewish People revisions and addendum that superseded prior tribal laws. One that encouraged us tolerance and to love our brother unconditionally. Telling the peoples that, “as you judged, you too will also be judged”. Telling each man and woman, they answered to only one God and he was the light and the way and to follow him.

there’ many wonderful stories in the Bible. It seems the earlier laws used the carrot and stick approach in direct people, suggesting to us a mean spirited jealous God,one that was quick to “punch your ticket” for disobeying. An element of “fear” was used.

Of the two, I prefer Jesus’s teaching and concepts of God’s Law and that’s what I “attempt” to abide in today and of course the Laws of Moses, the 10 commandments delivered by God’s own hand as the story goes And it “AIN”T” easy to do!

Do you know where the 10 commandments or the Gospels address Homosexuality?

Being non Jewish of little importance, ` I’m more of a spiritual person while these wonderful stories have helped me find my way thou I do stray at times.

Homo’s were created by the same God as I, like myself, offered no options of parents, gender, race or health. Who could ask for such a cure as be “divided” in one body?

just my thoughts on the matter.

  • Constance

Tessa – so you think if the law changes vets won’t spit in their faces? You are very naive. Laws cannot make something that is wrong, right. Look at abortion! People who have strong religious beliefs aren’t going to suddenly change unless they are shallow. Some people who go to Church are shallow and swayed very easily. Believe it or not, there are more people who can’t condone homosexuality than can. Look at the number of states who voted against same-sex marriage. Most of us are conservative. Who knows what is going to happen if this is changed. I am not saying those who are gay are lousy soldiers, but if they have an activist attitude, there certainly could be problems. This is similar to gay pride parades. Do you ever see any straight pride parades? Most moms don’t want their children at gay pride parades because they are over the top with their kind of sexuality, sex acts and lack of clothes.Look at San Francisco, they can be practicaly nude and police protect them. This is hardly the way to make straights see gays in a good light. I have friends who are gay and I treat them respect as they are my fellow human beings. But, this doesn’t mean I have to approve of their lifestyle.

    • Tessa

I agree with you on the abortion thing, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.

Look, I’m very conservative but gays have been serving in the military for decades now, whether anyone likes it, or not. And I don’t really see the point of DADT. As long as you don’t tell us you’re gay, you can serve? As I said in another post, that’s just willful denial.

I might not agree with homosexual behavior, but if they’re willing to die for this country, then they’re okay in my book. That’s just where I come down on this thing. Obviously, you and many others disagree. That’s fine. I’m just being honest…

      • Claire

Tessa—I agree with you. Good post.

      • Kim McGough

Tessa, Clinton enacted the policy to protect gays, you know there are dangers of being openly gay, like being killed, beat-up, and ect

      • Ted Crawford

You are correct Kim! If they do pass this thing, I’m afraid the use of HRBs will be increased!!

    • Claire

Constance–and I have to agree with you on the gay pride parades. I do not approve of homsexuality, but that is their business. I do not want to “put up” with their antics either. If some people are homosexuals, so be it, but they should conduct themselves like they have some common sense, not like the idiots we see in those parades.
If they want to be treated like human beings, then they should act like human beings, not uncontrollable fools. A number of homosexuals have made total fools of themselves, this is why a lot of people react to them the way they do.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Claire,
I guess if they repeal DADT then the militant gays like you see in the gay pride parades that are serving will just sit around in their bustiers at night, huh? that wouldn’t cause any problems, would it??? Yeah wright!!!

      • Claire

Joe H–I was speaking about the stupid parades. I can understand why the straight guys don’t want the gay men hanging around. I wouldn’t either. This repeal is not official yet. It has to go through the Senate and I believe the Pentagon has to mull over it. This is an issue that should be left well enough alone. Like libertytrain suggested, maybe the soldiers and military personnel should vote for it, not the politicians.

      • Claire

Whoops– not “vote for it” but do the voting on it.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Claire,
I agree, the Odummer has already made up his mind to throw a bone to the gays to get their votes either for him or as a favor to his buddies!!!

  • crystal

I question McCain on this issue seeing that his wife and daughter are pro-homosexual. His wife did an advertisement for homosexual marriage.

    • Tessa

      “Pro-homosexual”? What does that mean?

      • JC

It’s like “home-phobic”…just another word somebody made up.

  • J.M.R.

yes its time J. M. to go home for good he’s to liberal for my vote

  • Dennis

You can tell when an election is near for McCain. When an election is close McCain tries to look like a conservative. The next five years after election he looks like a liberal. Arizona needs to remember the last six years of McCain, not what he tries to look like immediately before the next election.

    • JC

Dennis, here’s a perfect example of what you’re saying.
      One of McCain’s “All of a sudden I’m a Conservative Again” ads…
      keep a bucket handy.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JC,
The first time I saw that commercial, I was still chuckling half an hour later! I respect the mans service record, I do, but you can’t buy stand-up that good!!!

  • Tessa

McCain is out-of-touch. Whatever happened to supporting your fellow servicemen? All of our western allies, including Israel, allowed gay servicemen and women to enlist openly a decade ago or more, without much dust-up. It’s time for us to move on as well (majority of Americans agree). We’re talking about people who have proven themselves on our battlefields, who have been willing to lay down their lives for ours, only to have a fellow Veteran spit in their faces. Shame! Shame!

    • Dave

Your logic says if you jump off a bridge, I should too. Let me know where you got your figures. Last I heard the military strongly disagrees with you. The large majority of our Generals disagree with you as well. They know what the ramifications (sp) will be if there are openly gay people in the military and in battlefields. But then again, Libs are always trying to tell people what to do. Even when they know nothing about the situation. If it makes you feel good, do it! Is that pretty much how it works?

      • Tessa

First of all, I’m not a “Lib” (far from it).

I clearly stated most “Americans” agree. I’m referring to the numerous polls that have been conducted, including the most recent Washington Post/ABC Poll showing 75% of Americans support a repeal of DADT. You can Google it.

But since you brought up the Military views on the subject, I should point out that The Military Times polls annually on this topic, and the polls are shifting in favor of appeal. Since 2003, opposition to gays serving has dropped from 61% to 50%. Moreover, the Defense Department survey in 2009, of active-duty battalion troops, found “found that two-thirds of troops do not think that knowing there are openly gay and lesbian soldiers in their unit would negatively affect their ability to carry out a mission. A similar number of troops did not think that openly gay or lesbian service members would harm their unit’s ability to effectively work together as a team.”

About my logic about our allies allowing gays: I’m not suggesting we should do the same simply because they have done so. But we can learn something from our allies. They have had allowed openly gay people to serve without compromising troop readiness and cohesion, for over a decade now. That’s the salient point.

      • Dave

Here is what I am saying. I know a lot of people in the military. When asked privatly, most all disagree with openly gay people in the military. If polled, they would not admit that. Political correctness is the problem. I also would not put much stock in a ABC poll. It’s about the same as polling Rush’s audience on a given issue. But, this is place where we can agree to disagree. Have a nice day Tessa!

      • Bob Wire

        >>>I know a lot of people in the military. When asked privatly, most all disagree with openly gay people in the military. If polled, they would not admit that. Political correctness is the problem.<<<

Ah! makes perfect sense to me! A Jaded Polling! by virtue of the question! Maintaining Plausible Deniable, two answers to one question by the same person. Much like, racial overtones is a non-issue and a liberal fabrication?

        You framed it so well!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Tessa,
Of course they allow them to serve openly, they don’t want to have to deal with them. You DO know what happens to a gay if he or she is captured by a muslim enemy don’t you???

  • Steve Coy

What’s next a Dress and high heels, how about a Gay Military Wedding?????

  • Larry Craig

I’m surprised my buddy John voted against this – he had some hot times when he was in the military. I guess he doesn’t want any others to enjoy that unique intimacy that a man-on-man relationship offers. Or, John, have you forgotten?

    • fed-up

What we all have to remember is that everyone from the middle to the left are homophobes. Like Hitler, they want to be sure they know each of the people that frighten them; to be dealt with at a later date. Otherwise, why is this such a media event? It’s a public outing party, led by one of the most public of all homophobes.

      • Bob Wire

oh really! and where did you acquire such wisdom?

      • http://david_spitler@hotmail.com trainnut1962

some of your facts are correct but hitler was a corporal and only had one medal for meritourious service not decorated by any means. he was basically a nobody. hitler was far left wing and like our current president, he did not have any experience but he surrounded himself with likeminded people.only radical left wing would have considered death camps.(death panels come to mind) go visit a death camp and maybe you will see. hitler was not anything like you say for his first two years he had concepts to help the people like obamas we need change. using this idea he drew the people into having false security and then after he won their trust, he, started to label the jews then he stated that the jews were the problem and then started to get rid of them obama has done the same with our healh care and our banks, now he will try the big oil claiming that these people are the problem i hope you get these facts and understand which way this country is really going and pray that they do not take away our rights to vote by november to stop their losses (hitler did this also)

Respect for McTwit is irrelevant. It’s his disrespect for America that matters. This is an act of a desperate man.
It almost sounds like he’s running for prez again.
Go away. Disappear. Retire. Move to another country. The options are endless, McBoob. Your services are no longer required or wanted.

    • Al Sieber

Good post, McCain is my senator and the people here think he’s a traitor.

  • Another Voice

Well, I guess that’s one way to de-fund the war.

  • Kelly Hughes

Regardless of McCain’s position, or anyone else’s position on this subject, Why Are Personal Relationships Being Flaunted So Publicly? Aren’t there some choices, such as this, that should be kept private? As a Vet, the main concern should be PERFORMANCE OF DUTY! Keep your private life to yourself.

    • Tessa

That’s the point. If you’re a good soldier and you’re doing your job, your private sex life shouldn’t matter…period.

  • Ian Rayburn

It now has become very clear that right wing is trying to outdo right wing. Correct me if I am wrong but were Hitler, Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun not also right wing? Was it not McCain who picked “dingbat” Palin as a running mate? Enough said.

    • Dave

Yes, you are wrong! Do you feel any better now?

Hitler was a bit of a socialist. He wanted socialized government supplied health care for Germany. It was a way for the government to keep controll over the people. He was also a vegetarian… I guess the old logic of “vegetarian’s are less aggressive” was put to sleep as well!

    • Arcadia CA once

No, no, Hitler was left wing. What part of socialist republic — you know the rest. Be aware “Hitler traits” are traits of the left wing by that measure. Total power. Same with the others. OK buddy. I know the media tries to call it all right wing, but it makes no sense, probably just to make right wing look bad. Also just to be clear – what does right wing mean? To me it means to be for individual liberty, freedom, and personal responsibility for adults, see the “Philosophy of Liberty videos” for what I mean. Right wing to me is just not left wing. Do those concepts bring people together? It should. Let’s be clear, you are free to screw yourself on your own time, but by the same token don’t come running to society to fix you. I think freedom of choice is the best foundation for a truly moral civilization because the smallest form of government is self-government and if you are “compelled to do good” you can’t truly call it a moral society can you. Others may disagree with this, but to be consistent I don’t care if people are gay in the military. That would be an awesome to see a true conservative say that against McCain. I also don’t mind private organization setting their own standards regarding allowing gays into their groups. I’m not a person of faith. I don’t mind people preaching for and against certain behaviors. I stay away from the heavily Bible influenced groups, but there is still a place for me and others like me on the right. Also more than once I’ve been surprised to see a gay person see the light of the right too.

Where is the world do you get your ideas? ~ Who tells you such thing? Glenn Beck?

        >>”Adolf Hitler (German pronunciation: [ˈadɔlf ˈhɪtlɐ]; 20 April 1889 – 30 April 1945) was an Austrian-born German politician and the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known as the Nazi Party. He was the absolute dictator of Germany from 1934 to 1945, with the title of chancellor from 1933 to 1945 and with the title head of state (Führer und Reichskanzler) from 1934 to 1945.
A decorated veteran of World War I, Hitler joined the precursor of the Nazi Party (DAP) in 1919 and became leader of NSDAP in 1921. Following his imprisonment after a failed coup in Bavaria in 1923, he gained support by promoting “German nationalism”, “anti-semitism”, “anti-capitalism”, and “anti-communism” with charismatic oratory and propaganda.

Nazism (Nationalsozialismus, National Socialism) was the ideology and practice of the Nazi Party and of Nazi Germany.

It was a unique variety of fascism that involved “biological racism” and anti-Semitism.[9] Nazism presented itself as politically syncretic, incorporating policies, tactics and philosophies from right- and left-wing ideologies; in practice, Nazism was a far right form of politics

In many respects, Adolf would fit right in a right wing tea party crowd much easier then a Democrats weenie roast.

I hope your shocked! to not be, ~ means your post is disingenuous an a attempt to misinform

      • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Bruce D.

Fascism is a form of government that allows private ownership but retains the power to regulate what can be done with private property and private business. There is no denying the left wants to regulate everything in sight. Nazis were part of a National Socialist Party because they wanted power over all wealth created to redistribute it to who they saw fit. Getting rid of the Jews was part of that plan to redistribute wealth. The mistake of all socialists is to think they can create wealth by dividing it up between themselves. Eventually it dissipates when the free markets stop working because of regulation and lack or incentive. Hilter was very far left.

      • Ted Crawford

Hitlers publicly stated policy and his real policies, like many we know now, were not the same! If we access the private correspondance between himself and his staff and other world leaders, it becomes clear that he didn’t view Communism as an ideaological enemy, but as a competitor for the same votes! Hitler was far left!!

      • TIME

Now grow up and stop being a total butt head. And learn something and at least try to be able to open that closed mind of your.

    • s c

IR, your pc, alinsky-approved public education has done serious damage to your sense of reality. Hitler was far left. Stalin was far left. Mao was far left. You are probably far left, too.
Get re-educated while you can. Public education – obviously – is also far left. Can you guess why your fearless ‘Chosen One,’ Obummer, is against homeschooling? You get two guesses, and the first one doesn’t count.

    • Dave

One more thing. If Sara Palin is such a dingbat, why is the left so afraid of her? I think she makes more sense that the entire democrat (I mean socialist) party. She simply want socialists to get back in their cage. Whats wrong with that? You certainly can’t believe that “old foot in the mouth” Biden is more intelligent than Palin!

Answer me this, why did that writer rent the house next door to her? You know, the one that is hell bent on trying to dig up any kind of dirt that he can find. That’s just wrong!!!

      • Bob Wire

They not afraid of her Dave ~ She serves us well and she’s a lot of fun to watch, much like Pentecostal Revival Come to Jesus Meeting! It’s no telling what might happen next! Much like 43, she gives us great ammo to throw back. ~ but the truth is, we don’t need anymore!

But don’t mistake amusement with Fear. ~ However if you find joy and comfort with such thoughts ~ by all means, please continue. It serves our purpose for you to feel this way. I’m only trying offer you insights. But to scoff the notion pleases me.

      • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Bruce D.

There is no denying the left fears Sarah Palin. They relentlessly attacked her and her children on a personal level to discredit her. You are a testament that it is still hapening now. Her biggest threat is that she is a positive role model for young woman. Something the left cannot tolerate as they fear losing that voting block.

    Flip/Flop………….
McCain has been in congress wayyy tooo long, it’s time for him to go.I feel he believes he has become one of the “entitled one’s” and is no longer representing the views of the people who put him in the Senate, he’s become a Rino.
Retire John, go write a book.

  • Robin from Arcadia, IN

John McCain is a patriot and I have the utmost respect for the man and what he endured while serving our country. However, I think it is time for Mr. McCain to retire. I don’t want to see him voted out, but retire before that happens. He’s a good man but his views flip flop too much. It would behoove him to go out on his terms (retirement) rather than being ousted.

Actually it’s good that he be voted out rather than just retire. His running one last time is testing the metal of the challenger for the general election. Like in the movies the student must beat the master to earn his place. It would be honorable of him to step down but putting up a fight is not so bad, it could help the challenger in the political wild-kingdom.

What do Barrack Hussein Obama, Charlie Crist and Juan McBush, oops, I mean John McCann, have in common? When ever they are on TV or the radio conservatives tune them out and off by turning the station. Conservatives are totally sick of the three of them.

Charlie & Juan both check the polls first thing in the morning to see what their position will be from 8 am to noon before the afternoon polls come out. Here’s hoping Marco Rubio and JD Hayworth are victorious in November.

We’re doing our best to vote him out in Nov. I hear people calling in to the local radio shows voicing their disgust for McCain, he won’t make it.

  • RivahMitch

I wonder if McCain is ready yet to apologize for (i) his earlier position on Amnesty, or (ii) his lies to constituents during his Presidential campaign that “you don’t have to be afraid” of the Kenyan Fascist and that “He’s an honorable man”. If not, he still doesn’t get it.

Not to mention his endorsement of the gun grabbers…

  • Kris

Well it’s an election year for McAmnesty so what do you expect? He always goes back to where he is supposed to be so the sheeple re-elect him again! He is disgusting and so are the stupid people who vote for him! If he gets re-elected , he will start another amnesty bill!!

  • Paul

McCain is much too liberal. He should be a Democ rat. Yes he spent years at Hanoi Hilton but as a professional politician I have no respect for him.

    • REB

He was in a prison camp, ask him if he can hold his mud.
