IRS Launches First Wave Of Small Business Attacks

IRS Launches First Wave Of Small Business Attacks

(Initial Focus on Employment Tax Compliance)

When the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released its five-year strategic plan last year it promised a flurry of new attacks on the public in a variety of areas. Referred to by the IRS as “enforcement initiatives,” these attacks constitute the key areas the agency will target for increased audit attention in the years to come. What was a mere promise last fall of more audit activity is now a reality. The IRS just recently launched the first wave of audit attacks.

In reviewing the IRS’s strategic plan it came as no surprise to me that the lion’s share of this new audit attention would be focused on small businesses. What did surprise me is the level of aggressiveness with which the IRS intends to carry out the attack. The agency identified four specific areas that it will focus on. I reveal them here.

1. The misclassification of workers as independent contractors (ICs). Employment taxes represent a staggering cost to businesses, both in terms of money and time. For this reason, many businesses look for ways to trim costs by reducing employees. One strategy is to use independent contractors (ICs) rather than employees to perform services for the business. But there is a right way and a wrong way to use ICs. If you go about it the wrong way you open yourself up to substantial tax assessments with penalties and interest.

Because employment taxes are such an important revenue source, the IRS is determined to audit as many businesses as possible to ferret out those that use ICs. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently reported that in 2007, various audits by state revenue departments found that more than 150,000 workers were misclassified as ICs. This report prompted the IRS to undertake its own study. So beginning immediately, the IRS will launch at least 6,000 random audits of small businesses. The announcement came on April 22 and was issued by Robin Arnold, a senior IRS program manager and field specialist.

Of course, the random audits are just the beginning. Once the IRS has the audit program fully developed and refined it will let loose its agents upon businesses on a much wider scale. The agency is training 200 revenue agents right now to conduct these audits. Moreover, it’s in the process of hiring nearly 2,000 more agents this year to help carry the load. Even worse, the results of the audits will be shared with the states so they can get in line behind the IRS to pick the bones clean.

And while it’s certainly not illegal to use ICs, you must be sure the workers are legitimate ICs and not merely employees masquerading as ICs. This is just one reason my IRS Problem Solver Series is so important and valuable for small businesses. This issue is just one of the many I discuss in great detail in that package.

2. Employment tax return non-filers. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration recently called on the IRS to step up enforcement against businesses that don’t file employment tax returns or pay employment taxes on time. The IRS treats this issue very seriously since employment tax money is largely withheld from the paychecks of employees. The employer is then responsible to pay it to the IRS. When the employer fails to do that he is treated as violating a “trust” relationship and becomes personally liable for the unpaid withholding taxes.

The IRS is now expanding its audits to randomly probe businesses for employment tax compliance. And because these audits are entirely random, there’s really no way a business can avoid such an audit. The best you can do is to make sure your business is in compliance.

3. Payment of fringe benefits to employees. Unless specifically excluded by law, the payment of money, property or services of any kind as compensation for services is taxable income. If a person receives goods in exchange for services, those goods are taxed at their fair market value.

On the other hand, the tax code does exclude from taxation certain fringe benefits paid by companies to their employees. But the exclusions are limited and are expressly defined. To the extent that any benefits exceed those limits, they are taxable.

To illustrate how desperate for revenue the Federal government now is, the random audit program targeted at small businesses will also focus on the payment of fringe benefits to employees. Look for the IRS to work on taxing every possible benefit that’s paid to employees. And of course, it intends to squeeze that money out of your pocket.

4. Payment of compensation to corporate officers. One of the most common mistakes made by small corporations is the failure to pay corporate officers (usually the owners) a “reasonable salary.” The tax code provides that corporate officers who provide services to a corporation must be compensated by the corporation commensurate with the fair market value of those services.

But many corporate officers do not draw a salary. Rather, they take their entire compensation in the form of a “dividend.” The difference is that the dividend is generally not subject to social security tax while the salary is. This is an issue of growing concern, but most small business owners will not see it coming. Too many tax return preparation professionals just do not understand the nuances of determining reasonable compensation or even that the IRS will challenge the compensation package of a small business owner. I expect many business owners to be blindsided by this issue. It could cost you a fortune.

These shackles have been on small business owners for some time. All that has changed now is that the government is moving down the udder to get every last drop it can squeeze out. If you consider the lost opportunity cost for businesses that have to deal with the audits, payments to accountants to prepare records, and the expense to the taxpayers for increased “enforcement” by the IRS, I wonder if the cost outweighs the benefits? If anyone has solid information on this I would sure like to see it. Otherwise if the government thinks it is getting duped by the taxpaying small business, then maybe a smarter tax revision would yield greater benefit at less cost.

    • Isaac Hearne says:

You wonder… Don’t wonder your suppositions are completely correct.

    • JR_FLA says:

Lets not forget that Obama can only bring to the table, the depth of his knowledge and experience. He’s only been an “organizer” and a poor one at that. I am still astounded that he was elected. Of course he’s going to empower labor unions, IRS, czars, etc… he’s surrounding himself with the only “comforts” he knows; incompetence. Should any of us be surprised at this course of human nature?

      • Bob Wire says:

has little to do with Obama Sir. ~ The rules has been on the books for some time. ~ Enforcement is required. The same thing happened under your beloved Ronnie Rayguns. But it was much worse then, we had senior’s committing double suicide, feeling exhausted and lost in a sea of sharks.

I hate the Infernal Revenue! having been a victim of a very expensive and very bad CPA and left to deal with the blood sucks but your amazement is truly amazing!

Obama is you president because Mc Cain is “Not”! It’s that simple.

      • Chris Dodd says:

Obama was “selected” not “elected”. You will eventually figure that out. Hillary made mention and coined that phrase after she lost the nomination. It is well known that Obama’s I.Q. is in the range of 132-135. His followers describe him as “brilliant” and “articulate”. I tend to agree, as long as the teleprompter functions properly. Aside from that, there isn’t a whole lot going on up there….

      • Bob Wire says:

he was both , selected and elected and history bears this to be true

    • Harold says:

Well get in line. Everybody wants a tax break. Look how well dodging taxes has worked for Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Business, small and large, unions, and ordinary folks just doin for themselves.

    • Void1972 says:

The extremely well organized effort to destroy small business has been in efect for about a decade now, and it’s full steam ahead now.
Our government is bought and paid for by large corporations and by eliminating small business, larger corporations do more business.
This is what is happening to thousands of hardware stores(home depot, loews etc), restaurants and grocery stores.
The IRS is taxing small business out of business.

      • Lorene says:

I believe it is his goal to run them out of Business, he is ruining the Country and still he has his followers believing he is “the one”. I think they should audit everyone who works for the Gov. they are the ones that pay no taxes. I am so sick of the takers of this world, and I am sick of his sheeples saying how great and wonderful he is. there is none so blind as those who refuse to see.

      • Allan says:

I don’t agree with the theory that large corporations and government are plotting to destroy small business. I’ve worked in big business and was a small business employer. What I experienced is that each is primarily in it for themselves. Both big and small get creative with taxes, investment, employment, and lobbying. There are many classifications of services and products that big business can’t function in, because, like government, it is too bumbling and inflexible.

Big business doesn’t operate that much differently from government. Liberals of course love to paint corporations as evil and prefer to trust incompetent, self-serving government. Approx. 1 in 6 Americans now work for government, state or federal, so when there’s an initiative to reduce their agency size or compensation, they vote and lobby as agressively as big business does. Government is an equal opportunity nuisance, happy to regulate and tax any form of productivity.

Small business lives in the shadows. It can have a complex about big business, much like how small towns feel about the big city. In reality, the big city doesn’t spend much time thinking about small towns. The biggest challenge for small biz is the tax and spend sector’s greedy assumption that small biz is a bottomless funding pit to grow government services.

Small business is too important to society to dismiss. 25 million small businesses represent approx. 99.7% of all employers, 50 percent of private GPP, 13 to 14 times more patents per employee, 50 percent of private sector workers, 97 percent of exporters, 29 percent of all export value, 500,000 startups per year with 50% survival in four years, and 75 percent of net new jobs. In essence, we’re all in this together.

      • Billy says:

I agree with you. Small businesses are the life blood of the American economy. I feel this country was founded and is designed as the land of opportunity for the entreprneur. I have worked in large business for many years, but 15 years ago I entered my own business as a manufacturers sales representative and a small air tool distributor. It is a constant battle between the small business man and the federal government’s desire to destroy the small business man. I think the reason is that unchecked govt by it’s nature will move a country towards socialism, and that is the reason our founding fathers put in so many safe guards and rights for the American people.
If we don’t keep the government in check, they will take freedoms and tax us out of business to support the masses which are mostly non productive leiners on society. These unemployed and non productive people are the very ones that feed their causes and justify their needs to tax the hard working entreprenuer that creates ideas and employees people. I we are to survive as a society, so goes the small business man, so goes America as this country cannot survive as we know it without the small independent businesses that turn the wheels of our country.

      • li$@ says:

Anyone that works is paying in to the IRS except the ones that get paid under the table (cash) no trace. The cash is a cycle cuz businesses add the tax to us all going to the IRS. So, they also helped the economy. The problem was the Gov got too greedy everyone is trying to make it and some with kill for it. So, more for themselves $$$$ hiring illegals and paying/selling/ guns, drugs. so now it has got out of control to many are hurting the ones that just wanted the chance just like all after all Iraqis Asian live here, the American dream i guess what we should start is investigating them check and if they are doing what they are suppose to, pay taxes (some illegal’s do taxes i heard but a lot of rich folks cheat the system both the gov and the people in it) get finger print all that i believe they will they aint gone nothing to lose cuz they took that chance when they moved to America. sounds like a plan to me if its not to late. the more they think the more they forget the crazier its getting to stop it. cuz people go crazy for $$$$$$$$$$$

    • BobbyG says:

As I understand, the W-4 is voluntary and if an employer doesn’t send one in for each employee the fine is $50.00 each. The IRS expects the employer to be a tax collector for free. Maybe if the employers started charging for their services as a tax collector, say..25%-50% the IRS would be less likely to come down to hard on the employers of this nation.

  2. Tim says:

You people are being deceived. O.K., turn off Fox news and 24 and think about this for just a second.

If the IRS launched an ATTACK on Americans of any sort, don’t you think you’d hear about it from somewhere other than a outer-fringe, radical news site? Heck, 60 Minutes LIVES for stories like this. Don’t you think they would have had ‘ol Morley over there quick as that?

This SO doesn’t pass the simple common sense test.

Please, go outside, talk to real people, read a real newspaper. This is fear peddling of the highest order.

    • Thanks for your enlightening thoughts Tim. What is your business background? Do you own a company or a small business? If so please share your experiences with the IRS so we can know for sure whether or not this is fear mongering. I am inclined to listen to small business owners such as commenter JoAnn Nicholls who say that the enforcement described in the above article is already happening. Any other small business owners out there who feel the pain? If so, please educate us so we will know what is really going on.

      • angel-wanna-be says:

Freedoms choice, It has indeed has already started, they had us on the carpet last year for 8 MONTHS!__Sent to four different IRS buildings, in four different states_I ended up owing $400, thats four hundred dollars, that’s all!!!___I felt like telling them, check my swiss bank accounts too__The idiots.

      • PFFFF says:

So you still want to continue war…then pay taxes to cover the deficit.

      • Patrick says:

No one in their right mind likes war, however it’s the lesser of two evils. The other evil being the continuing attacks on US installations and our allies throughout the world, including the attack on US soil on 9/11. Yes, it takes revenue to pay our men and women in uniform to defend this great nation against these evil elements, such revenue comes from the taxes that we pay. Like it or not, income tax is a necesity.

      • JC says:

Patrick, income tax is not a necessity. In fact not one dime of “income” tax goes to pay for any infrastructure of any kind.
Every dime of it goes to pay the interest on the national debt.
A debt that is created when our government borrows money from the Federal reserve, which is not accountable, unnelected, is not Federal and has no Reserves.
All of the things you described are paid for with loans of artificial money with an arbitrary rate of interest from a shadowy group of bankers that will never be paid off. Its an unConstitutional, unethical, immoral and should be illegal, eternal hamster wheel of control.

And as an aside, why do we have our armed forces spread all over the world when we’ve never needed them at home more urgently?
Why are we so busy having a “military” presence in so many countries?
Aren’t they, for the most part sovereign nations?

      • Vicki says:

And why do we have a standing army anyway? That is one of the key things the founders fought against. A standing army and the idea of having a standing army.

      • sangfroid says:

In principle the notion that taxes are necessary for the running of the country makes philosophical sense but the reality is more a case of the government designing new tax grabs to subsidize inefficiencies, overspending and the cost of political appeasements. Audit is also an industry on its own where the concern is primarily one of expanding power and authority, preserving jobs and enhancing one’s social security.

There is a disguised conflict of interest.

      • usmadgirl says:

        JC,

So few people know this. Thank you for bringing it up! Until a few months ago, I didn’t know it myself!

      • BobbyG says:

The Grace Commission discovered that NO MONEY collected by the IRS goes to the government of this country. It basically goes to the Federal Reserve to pay the interest on the fiat currency they supply us with. Check it out. Google Grace Commission. The Defense Budget is paid by the corporate taxes every year and the corporate taxes are whatever the Defense Budget is.

      • Dr. Mabuse says:

JC, you are directly on point with your answer.
If only the rest of these people would take off their blinders,
we could get out of this fiat monetized debt system and have a tax policy that made sense.

      • JC says:

        Thank you Dr.
Personally I think that user fees on commercial goods would be sufficient to support infrastructure.

      • C.S. White says:

I own a small cleaning company and have already been visited by the IRS. They ended up owing me money in the end, however, I had to back up and pay unemployment compensation for every sub-contractor I had paid. So, yes the attacks are true.

        C.White

      • Grace says:

The sad truth is that if you had paid a high priced tax attorney about 3-4 times as much as you probably had to fork over to the IRS, you would have “won.”

      • Right Wing says:

I have run a small business for 14 years now as a sole proprietor in remodeling construction. I accept that much of my competition will undercut me but I sell my services by comparison of work quality and having an above-board business structure. There are many ways to operate a business below board and while in principle I agree a level playing field would be an ideal, I disagree that the IRS is capable of enforcing anything that closely resembles the ideal. I would rather have competition that cuts corners so I can charge more for better work. Tax enforcement will only cause the cheats to get more creative at avoiding audits and penalties and me to work harder to meet more demands for record and tax keeping. Like many small business owners, I could just accept this as part of doing business but More and more owners are sick of the tax burden falling on their shoulders. I like the concept of a flat tax.

      • Bob says:

        RW,

You are paying way too much in taxes as a sole proprietor. You should make a change to being an S-Corp. That will save you a lot on taxes. Another benefit of making the switch is that you will have some asset protection. You have none as a sole prop. As a construction company, you have a big potential for lawsuits. It would be wise for you to have some asset protection in addition to liability insurance.

      • Right Wing says:

I previously operated as a Sub S but was required to carry workmans comp even as a sole employee. There are many other reasons that sole proprietor fits my desires. Sub S is not one size fits all.

      • BK Potts says:

How would a flat tax work for a small business guy. Do you think your going to fill out on of those little postcards. That only works for a W-2 employee. If you are a sole proprietor, partnership, LLC, or Corp nothing would change. You would still with hold and still have to fill out forms, just like you do today.

      • Right Wing says:

My comment on flat tax was aimed at the overall benefits to small business in particular. We only have analysis to base that conclusion on but a pro saving and pro investment tax system tells me that people will spend more disposable income on small business services when they feel more financially secure. See the following link.

      • Bob Wire says:

Freedom’s Voice, I’m an independent contractor, since 78. I have not received a pay check or punched a time clock in some 33 years. I’ve never drawn unemployment, or received any grants or social services. I truly hate the IRS ~ but I’ll tell you straight up, This is an attempt at fear mongering.

What I don’t like about the IRS is; and it it not new; They have made the laws so complicated it’s difficult for lay people to understand and comply to their benefit.

The second thing I hate is ; they will bust the chops of a small business man and leave big business alone. ~ They are government employee’s and ready not interested in fight a battle they feel they might lose. Big business has a staff of CPA’s and attorneys for IRS agent to sit down and have a “nice chat” with.

So why pick on someone that might whip your ass and embarrass you? They might have to really work!

The 1st and 15th comes around where they slay dragons or rabbits.

    • aviatrix says:

Really, Tim? Have you ever owned a business? Do you have any idea what it takes to run one?

    • Beberoni says:

You sir are the one being deceived, if you think for one single second, that you are going to get any truth out of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN or MSNBC. You do know that they are all propaganda wings of the democratic party dont you? Imagine now, what you would be seeing on these stations, concerning the oil leak, if Bush were the president. He would be slaughtered, accusations of intimate relations with big oil and Haliburton would be rampant. Yet Obama sits on his arse not having a clue what to do, and he gets a free pass. I mean forget that BP has given him millions of dollars, gee, we dont want the news to investigate that relationship now do we. Heck no, it might expose the truth, and your not going to get the truth from the left wing liberal democratic press. I have found Fox News to be the only news that gives the truth, and lets me form my own opinion, without shoving their agenda based lies down my throat like ABC, NBC,CBS, CNN and MSNBC do. For you to have a problem with Fox News, you sir have a deeper problem, in that you cannot deal with the truth, or you dont know it when you hear it, because you have been deceived by the liberal think tank for much too long. You sir, need to get outside, turn those guys off, and look around you, and see the mess our society is in due to the liberal think tank. All the muslim “sleepers” and the illegal aliens running around, are products of the liberal think tank. All the rampant homesexuality and perversions all over, are results of the liberal think tank. The me, me, me attitude of people, is a result of the liberal think tank. And the kick God out of schools, government, and business, is a result of the liberal think tank. If you think not, then you sir are lying to yourself, and truly are deceived. The truth will set you free, thats all Im saying.

      • Patrick says:

Trudy, LIBERAL’S and trial lawyers are this country’s greatest set back. It’s those idiot conservatives that protect your second amendment rights so that you can protect your first amandment rights that you’ve so openly excersized in these forums.

      • Patrick says:

        Berberoni,

FOX news and CNN are the only two stations that I’ve seen that excersize a balanced reporting practice. CNN has the AC 360 (Anderson Cooper) and FOX News has Bill oriely and Sean Hannity.

      • Kinetic1 says:

According to Fox, O’Reily and Hannity are part of their “opinion and commentary” devision, so suggesting that Hannity is proof of Fox’s “fair and balanced” approach is self defeating? In fact, Hannity is one of these pundits that claims he will give you all the news you need to hear, but then covers himself by claiming he is an “entertainer” and is not held to the same standards as reporters. I can’t begin to count the number of times I have heard him distort the facts or lie by omission. And when he does, he repeats the story over and over as if repeating it will make it true.

Don’t get me wrong, I am aware that Olbermann will sometimes take things out of context, and others on MSNBC are certainly on the liberal side, but I see them as the opposite of Fox. And contrary to the opinions of others on this site I have also heard Olbermann criticize president Obama.

As for the big 3, I don’t buy the conservative rant that they are all in the pocket of the White House. These networks are owned by large conservative corporations that are unlikely to allow the news department to do them harm.

      • Bravo27 says:

From Bravo27 to Kinetic1, one question: Surey you jest?

      • TIME says:

        Kinetic1,
Are you on heavy Drugs? as in – Are you riding the white horse? Or Are you snorting mega lines of C? You sure sound that way.

      • usmadgirl says:

        Kinetic1,

If you DON”T think the “big 3″ & all other news media (other than FOX) are Obama worshipers, then you are living in “progressive utopia land” right along with them!

      • Roylyn08 says:

As I see this, even CNN is on the white house payroll.

      • Bravo27 says:

They are Democrats, not Democratics. Please advise the name of even one liberal Democrat who is democratic. Your replies seem to indicate you are on the right side. So, please, start refusing to call them the democrat ic party.

      • Dave says:

Are you serious? Do you REALLY think Fox News is unbiased. They’re just giving YOU and people like you what you want to hear. They are obviously a shill for the Right Wing Conservatives. If other stations are more left wing then I guess that’s what they think most sane people want to hear. They also tend to hire educated journalists not cultish wack jobs who have no regard for truth or journalism. As far as the mesia not covering Obama’s donation from BP, they donm’t because it doesn’t matter. Every politician in the US got a donation from BP. They gave more to Obama then McCain because they knew Obama was going to win. Bush was the onle who wanted to regulate and trust the oil companies to be nice guys. It’s YOU PEOPLE who loved the chant DRILL BABY DRILL. I see we move you all to Louisiana, Texas and everywhere else the oil is ruining and make you live by your mantra. The good news for you is that most of you are down there already. Have fun with that.

      • Allan says:

Obviously Fox is growing, and the big 3 are shrinking. Few here think any source is perfect, but obviously Fox is doing more of the right things. Let me know when the others start having opposition commentary like FOX, and when they start reporting all of the news that doesn’t fit their social agenda. Pretty embarrassing today when the Times editor was asked about the Sestak bribe and didn’t seem to know anything about it. This goes hand in hand with not reading the Arizona immigration law.

      • Sam says:

You know ba ba ba ba-babaroni, you’re an idiot. If only we had Bush, we could just attack the oil spill and fight it forever. Oh, and then Palin could help explain why we’re at war in the Gulf of Mexico. Well you can see Cuba from there ya know. Used to be Fox was the only really super leaning network, and by golly now they all are. I think the only was to fix this is to sling mud and throw rocks. It’s never worked, but idiots like you seem to feel that it’s always the other guys fault. No real idea what to do except blame. The only fault lies with those who signed off on the safety valves that were supposed to prevent such a mess in the first place. Obama is just another politician. When was the last time an American politician did anything really worthwhile? Nope, I think we’re both wrong. It’s that damn ex-nazi pope that is to blame. There’s homosexual business at play here. Get your head out in the fresh air and think for yourself, or considering what you’ve written, you might need some help.

      • JeffH says:

Sam, you might need a little fresh oxygen yourself.

      • Lorene says:

        Very well said. Thank You.

      • usmadgirl says:

        Beberoni,

Thank you for setting him straight. Fox News is the ONLY one that tells ANYTHING. All I’ve seen the MessiahStreamMedia do is bash FOX & praise O’dumbo.

This is off topic, but to wish you a Happy Memorial Day! Tinwarble put this Memorial Day Tribute video together for my son’s band (Whiskey Brown). PLEASE, if you don’t mind, send it to ALL your family & friends! I think everybody will like it (even some Dumb-o-crats if they love the country)!

        >>ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN or MSNBC. You do know that they are all propaganda wings of the democratic party dont you?<<

And so Rupert Murdock's Fox Noise "is not" and "has never been" a propaganda factory for the GOP and other right wing affiliations? And has never engaged in bias anti-dnc commentary since 2001?

        Did I get that right?

It's my feeling the Networks in question are in fact, responding to Fox spreading manure and keeping bad policy and failing administration in power and good favor as America went to Hell in a Hand Basket. Bridge's to nowhere is nothing compared to Wars to nowhere!

Now they are all propaganda to a point, Fox lies and embellishes and can expect someone to call them on it.

I;m on the team of the truth ~ willing to call them all liars if necessary. What side are you on?

    • Meteorlady says:

First of all I’m a small business owner, I don’t watch FOX news or most any other news. So what else is your point? The government – both state and federal – costs me money through their regulations and paperwork. If all I had to do was pay taxes on my income taxes I would be happy. Heck, I have to fill out a form each month and pay state sales tax, even if I have not been paid for the item that is taxed. The add on employment security taxes, industrial accident taxes, local property taxes, and then I an the government’s tax collector with SS, Medicare and income taxes on my employees. I have to fill out employment security forms, accident & fire insurance forms, health insurance forms, federal government forms and have my income taxes done. Then I have to file compliance forms. All this costs a lot of money and I have to hire people to do it for me. If all the regulations and were gone and I was not the federal and state’s tax collector I could hire two extra people. Government is sucking business dry with all this.

So little liberal – before you rant get some facts. Go out and talk to small business owners and get their side of the story.

      • uSNpops says:

Fortunately I’m retired now, but ran a Web Design Business for 10 years back in the 90′s. Mine was a service business, and fortunately there were no employees. I spent however about 5-6 hours a Month filling out paperwork for the City, County, State and Federal tax collectors. I could have expanded my business by hiring a person to do the artistic work, but I checked and it would have killed my business. Workmen’s Comp, FICA, IRS witholding and a myriad of other “Fees” that I would have to pay was ridiculous. But when a “Flat Tax” is even mentioned in the political arena, the powers that be go into “Kill the messenger mode”. And after reading this article, I wonder how Mr. Obama can say that getting small business going strong is the answer to the countries recover, and then the IRS across the Mall is getting ready to go after small business for more taxes.
Wait till the New Medicare bill kicks in , and see what the cost to small business will be for the Mandatory health care for employees. It sure won’t be free. Read the Bill.

      • JC says:

Whether by design or by accident, it’s all collectively designed to kill the entrepeneurial spirit and the economy in general.

      • Bob Wire says:

Much the same thing was warned about Medicare in 64.

I had a GOP uncle that bitterly disapproved of it, and yet today Medicare is all his tired old bones has got, yet he still rants! He told me , too many people watch TV when they need to pray! Well? that’s all fine and good I suppose but you don’t need to be voting on things you know nothing of.

and today we read Tea Party signs saying “Fed stay away from my Medicare!”

Funny stuff! I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, But I don’t fear it. ~ If it get too bad, I’ll just take your stuff! How does that sound? That’s where we were headed before reform.

You tell me it not so?

We have too many “middlemen” in all levels of health care and many other industries actually. As a middle man, your “job” is to leverage your way between supply and demand. Create and control a market.

In most cases this is where all the absorbent cost derives from.

I think there a better way then what we’ve been doing.

      • Dave says:

That’s the cost of doing business. If you have a better way then run for office and make it happen. Otherwise, do what you need to do. If you decide to cheat and not follow the rules then the IRS is not “attacking” you, they are investigating you because you got caught cheating. If you don’t like it then go work for someone else.

      • JeffH says:

Dave, might you “work” for the governmnet? Get over it…government makes mistakes too, just in case you were unaware.

Hey Dave – read my little story below about the vindictiveness of the IRS.

      • Bob Wire says:

They can be nasty, I had one agent tell me”Mr.Winkler, we’re not a bank!” Since I wasn’t suggesting that they were, it was unsolicited and reeked of pious attitude. For in my case, the true income was never there that I was been held accountable for but the results of a blundering CPA.

      • JC says:

I see you’ve been convinced that they are a legitimate organization.
Not so. It’s a criminal enterprise.

      • MOMSRIGHT says:

You are sooo right! My husband ran a small business Which at it’s greatest earnings was grossing 1,000,000 a year! The amount of taxes we paid was well over 50% While we hired employees to work and keep the books and make sure we were compliant. By the time it was all said and done we took home maybe 125,000 barely enough to take care of our large family! Now we are out of business thanks to Obamas economy and had to file bankruptcy! The IRS is trying to get 80,000 out of us for last years taxes that we could not afford to pay. And recently we had a lien put on our home because we couldn’t pay the State for a tax they charged us on our five year old computers! When the government has license to drain the life out of it’s citizens through the oppressive confiscation of our wealth, then use that money recklessly, wastefully and shamefully then it is time the people stood up and said enough is enough!

      • Bob Wire says:

        >>Now we are out of business thanks to Obamas economy<<

Hahah ! Obama economy? no wonder you're out for business.

      • Bob Wire says:

The very day this administration took office we were experiencing a 6.5 % decline in the economy and losing 150,000 American jobs per month. Now that’s a serious hicky on your neck to try to hide and tells everyone, exactly what you “haven’t been doing.

Blame Obama if you want too, but everyone knows what happen, it’s recorded history books at this point.

My business had been in decline since 84, with a few spurts off and on over the years. So if you made it as far as you did and just now feeling the blunt, you are a luck person.

    • Jeanne says:

      Tim,

Your the one who needs to wakeup to the fact that the “other news sites” or the “obamamedia” is brainwashing you fools into thinking that the “Truth of which Fox news reports” is a lie. If you care at all for America, you better open your eyes to the reality we live in, before we allow this current government & the obamamedia to destroy our country.

      • Sam says:

Geeze Jeanne, no bias there at all.

      • Bob Wire says:

Okay Jennie, what can I say?

Try offering us a reason rather then just threat and fear for starters.

Give us something to work with here! I’d enjoy your insights but you need to voice them.

Threats and Fear is no excuse or substitute for cognizant thought.

I’m serious as cancer ! You got the facts , whip’em out, I want to know as much a possible.

    • fed-up says:

      Poor Tim.
You probably still reads the “main-stream” newspapers. Do you really believe that the press is covering anything of substance? Do you honestly believe that Fox is making stories up? Remember, please, that all the falsities that have come out in the press in the last ten years have been by main-stream writers!
Take a good look out your window. The silent majority has a voice and a vote and they’re starting to exercise both very vehemently. Tim, are you one of the receivers or one of the people being forced to share? In case you live in Loma Linda, this means do you have a job or are you on the dole?

      • Bob Wire says:

You Fox people are addicted, ~ you’re willing to line up for the “fix” that justifies and validates. Got to have it! The Poison that makes you feel “connected” and exclusive ! While you apply circular reasoning to everything, connect dots that are not there ` You’ve got to have the drug to see “these”dots but only if you’re”gifted” by nature.

How is everyone going to see the dots if they won’T take the drug?

And while your at it, ~ buy some gold ! It’s a great investment today at “just” 200% over market value. Glenn’s team is standing by to take your order, and “your call! is important to us!

    • Suebie says:

Being deceived? It’s an annoying accusation and so ‘left thinking’. My suggestion to you would be take your head out of the sand.

The IRS has been attacking American taxpayers for years and years, this is really nothing new other than the government is so desperate for money now, they have no choice but to step things up. Knowing the history of the IRS, their intrinsic need to put the hammer down on small businesses, and then charge outrageous penalties and interest until you’re so far into them that you’re paying 5 times more than you owed… how is that being deceived? Talk to anyone that has ever had to deal with them. They have been out of control for years, have more power than they should, and now we have a President who wants to give them more.

The very small company I work for was accused of paying our payroll taxes late, got the notice with the fine. Proved that the IRS applied it to the wrong place and it still took us 4 months to get it straightened out. The whole time we are getting letters threatening to attack the company bank accounts. I’d say when it comes to the IRS, there is nothing new happening that hasn’t already been for years.

60 minutes? That’s laughable! REAL NEWSPAPER?? I’m sorry but that is the silliest statement in your post. Maybe you’re the one being deceived?

    • libertytrain says:

The Wall Street Journal and USA Today had the same headline – on this same article – I believe they are still both considered newspapers -

      • JR_FLA says:

libertytrain: No, these are not “NEWS” papers. A “NEWS” paper is one who’s ownership and journalists report the facts and don’t put their own political spin on the stories. I was tailed by reporters when working an environmental clean-up and the reporter told me very explicitly that the story was written before anyone is interviewed. The interview was only a “formality”…journalism? This is exactly why the major “NEWS” papers have lost over 70% of their readership in the past 10 years…they now splash their crap all over the internet. Tim; we can only deduce from your comments that you are either an “instigator” of agrument, or a lost sheep (I prefer to believe it is the latter).

      • libertytrain says:

Than we have no newspapers left and that is sad.

      • Claire says:

As far as I am concerned ALL MEDIA presents a form of truth—-they just ALL add theire innuendos and comments that suggests otherwise to suit their own party affiliation.

Let’s take off the gloves, Timmy. YOU are so deluded that you might as well be a progressive ‘plant.’ YOU have been programmed. YOU are PAID to spew pc sludge at America. YOUR purpose is to ‘protect der Obummer at all costs.’ To make matters even worse, YOU think Obummer is more important than small business.
This has ben a slow process, and what has been lacking until a year and a half ago is a Hitlerian-like “leader” who’s ready and willing to use governments TOOLS (like YOU) to finish the job and DESTROY America’s economy.
Timmy, YOU and Obummer are so full of it that you should be FLUSHED once a day. We will survive in spite of you. Some of us are still Americans. YOU have NO place here, comrade. Got it, you useful idiot tool?

      • Dave says:

What is with the Nazi comments? I find them completely offensive. I’m all for small business but I don’t believe in trickle down economics or any other conservative dogma. I have always worked. I’ve never taken a cent from the government. The fact is that major corporations are controlling this country and they have you wack job right wingers convinced that the Repubican Party will help you when they are the party that wants to let those corporations get bigger and more powerful. They get you worried about someone taking your guns and “attacking” small businesses so you ignore that they are controlling you. Democrats aren’t perfect but at least more of them are seeing the truth and are educated.

      • JeffH says:

Dave, I see you’ve got it all figured out just like the Germans had Hitler all fiured out and we know how that turned out.

OK ,Back to reality now. Your dogma seems to be the thought that everyone thatis a “right winger” is a Republican. Time to wake up now…maybe they’re just not “socialists”. Think about it?

      • JC says:

Jeff, I think it’s more that they “feel” everyone who is not a socialist is a right winger.
But as always they haven’t got a clue.

      • Bob Wire says:

I think it more semantics and a attempt to place everyone in a labeled box as people attempt to communicate and in a few cases “share” ideas and voice opinions.

I’ve been watch Cspan and a husband/ wife historian team offer insights into Henry Clay, the great legislator.

They were having much the same problems back then. People were attempt to define and label both issues and other people. In the case of Henry Clay, several ending up gun duels or out right brawls.

In Clay’s case He make many enemies and was fearless. I like the guy already! Ran for President 4 times.

But, what’s happening here today, this discourse, is not anything new. I offend someone and then they attack me (personally usually) , most often with whats on their mind and has little to do with what’s on mine. Funny really, but it offers you insights into what they are thinking, what they’ve been eating, what they been doing.

It’s brinkmanship and the process of reveling. I truly enjoy it.

      • Sam says:

Hey chuck. You’re right. We should have just kept Bush in office. Oh, no we can’t do that. The Republicans screwed the pooch and dug up Palin. So who was left? Suck it up and wait til the next election there skin head.

      • TeresaE says:

Won’t be anything left by the next election.

I do believe we lived through the last US Presidential election.

        Party on

      • usmadgirl says:

        TeresaE,

I agree 100%! I’ve been saying on this site for about 8 months that we probably don’t have a snowball’s chance even in the November election.

When O-dumbo grants amnesty to all the possibly 30 million illegal immigrant Democrats & now the possibility of making Puerto Rico the 51st state with several more million Democrats, this country as we know it, will be part of the Global Government & there will be NO chance of Conservatives taking back “squat”!

I have a Memorial Day Tribute that I’d like for everybody to see. “Tinwarble” (who used to comment on this site all the time) created a video for my son’s band (Whiskey Brown). If you like it, please pass it on to your family & friends. We’re hoping that thousands of America-loving citizens will see it & remember what all of those brave men & women gave their lives for & that they’ll pray for our country & our troops & remember all our fallen heroes whose lives will be given in vain if we keep allowing this administration to continue down this destructive path! Thank you & God Bless!

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRRXjk0mvcs

      • Bob Wire says:

Please describe; “This Mad Destructive Path” for the rest of us.”

I’d like very much to identify this bee caught in your bonnet.

You can easily start with just one example of this destruction.

    • refuse2lose says:

Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with the rest of us here who actually DO read REAL news reports and DON’T watch JUST Fox News.Maybe it is YOU who should stay away from the government websites, because contrary to the beliefs of people like you your government will not always tell you the truth.

And as for 60 Minutes, they are just like MSNBC and CNN.The government tells them what they can cover and what they can tell. You really need to pull out the kool aid IV Tim.It is turning your brain to mush.

    • JeffH says:

I must say that most of you have things pretty well under control here…Thank you.

While the IRS is doing their audits on the “heartbeat” of America, I would think that auditing the federal government and their wastefull government “purchaser” for buying a 5 cent nut and bolt for as much as 200 times their value. Possibly audit all of Congress or the Senate…as I do see from time to time that the “membership” forgets to claim income on their tax forms…One doesn’t have to watch FOX all the time to see and read about those little “mistakes”.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander…start with the president, and we all know how honest he is and I’m quite sure that his paperwork filed with the IRS is in order, and head south…one at a a time. I’m quite sure there will be some “inappropriate” deductions or “missed” income reported that can be collected.

I have worked for a company in the past that did violate the “1099″ contractor law and now they are in compliance with IRS tax codes, but it almost cost them their business. That was plain stupid on their part.

    • TeresaE says:

As a small business owner, I can tell you EXACTLY why CNN isn’t covering this.

It doesn’t effect them, nor their advertisers.

As a matter of FACT, it will help their advertisers run their competitors out of business.

Wake up. Small business WAS the wheel that paid for everything.

      Enjoy what this brings.

      Shared poverty and more government.

      • Bob Wire says:

Exactly TeresaE! For now, it’s not considered “news worthy” to them.

From their commercials it’s clear, They are appealing to people that are in the market for a new car, or insurance or considering investing or something to enhance those “special moments” Quite funny really.

Believe it or not, Many American’s are still doing quite well. This is validated by the total lack of interest the GOP has in being a constructive part of any reform. Even if it was reform initiatives that they themselves sponsored a year prior. They are doing well and see no urgency to affect change as 150,000 American’s lose their jobs every month and more and more people are faced with the hardships for losing their homes.

These power that be, believe ~ Deeper pockets will prevail and this administration will fail from the weight of the load, They only need to stand idly by and fuel the flames of suspicion and contempt by proxy media blitz and political entertainers.

Will they succeed? In a big way they already have, they managed to divide much of the nation and shift the American People focus away from them.

We hear people accusing other’s of being socialist, like that’s something dark and evil. Nazi’s and Commie’s, where they are getting these labels from often eludes me. We have people swearing Nazi’s were far lefties. It makes one doubt if they truly grasp the true nature of such labels, but only repeating what they heard somewhere.

I assure all, this notion of venture capitalism will only work, if people are allowed to fail. This situational we have of business being to big to fail, requiring us to socialize losses destroys any notions of Capitalism that I understand.

Yet, the most recent Banking reform failed to address this ” too big to fail”, finding the votes were just not there.

So I’d say, Yes, deeper pockets have already won in a very big way ~ as the American people eyes was turned to hot button issues like SB1070 while Banking Reform was argued on the house floor and politician cast their votes and sneaked out of Washington for a long weekend back home.

The American people have the government they deserve. It’s always been so. It might be better then we deserve.

    • Norman says:

      Tim,
The reason you don’t hear about this on the MSM is they are part of the problem if they don’t broadcast this then less people will know! It is like going back in time where you have the SRM telling you only what they want you to hear!

    • Dave says:

Great post Timmy. So you are suggesting we all rely on the liberal main stream media for the truth? Are they reporting on the SEIU thugs showing up by the hundreds at bank exec’s house escorted by DC Police last week? How about how the SEIU prez Andy Stern was the most frequenuent visitor to the White House. No connection there I’m sure. Or the White House offering jobs to DEM senate and house candidates in exchange for dropping out of the race. (This is a Felony). Or the White House Director of Communications giving a High School commencement speech last year praising Chairman Mao as the political figure she most admires. Only responsible for 70 million deaths in that country. Or self described radical communist Van Jones appointment as Green Czar. Or Obama appointing a radical gay activist Kevin Jennings who wrote the prologue to the book The Queering of Kindergarden. as Save Schools Czar who’s self described mentor was a leader in NAMBLA. MSM would have had to dig deep to find Obama’s admissions of Cocaine use and his stunning conclusion that it became obvious that not all white people are evil. Oh wait – this is all in his autobiography the audacity of hope. How about the FCC appointee of O downplaying Free Speech and praising the Glorious Revolution in Venezuela and the wonder things Chavaz has been able to accomplish by controlling the media. All these things are true and none of it is reported by the mainstream media. You want to remain ignorant of reality then continue to rely on the treasonous NY Times as a credible source of information.

      • Kinetic1 says:

“All these things are true”. Well, maybe there is some truth. Indeed, Andy Stern has visited the White House many times, but his ranking depends on where you got your information. In one report the data was based on a request for information that named specific individuals they wanted to know about. The names of those who visited but were not on the list skewed the results. If you are relying on Glen Beck, well he ignored the updated list that provided a more up to date list.

“Among those who visited more frequently than Stern, according to the combination of the two logs, were Lewis (Lee) Sachs, counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, with 92 visits; associate attorney general Tom Perrelli, with 49; Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski with 47; Spencer Overton, principal deputy assistant attorney general, with 38; and Health and Human Services office of health reform director Jeanne Lambrew, with 27. (Stern visited twice more during the period covered by the second batch of data, giving him a total of 24 visits.) [Politifact, 12/7/09]”

And how about offering Mr. Sestak a position should he decide not to run. Well, it looks like someone in the administration did offer him a job, but the accusation that it was a bribe to take pressure off of Sen. Specter is speculation. There is no evidence that it was anything more than an offer to fill an opening with a qualified candidate. There isn’t even evidence that the president was involved! I know, “it’s obvious! Are you so blinded by the anointed one that you can’t see an impeachable offense right in front of you?” Well then we had better take a look back at Ronald Reagan’s administration. Nov. 25, 1981 “Sen. S.I. Hayakawa on Wednesday spurned a Reagan administration suggestion that if he drops out of the crowded Republican Senate primary race in California, President Reagan would find him a job.” AP News.

I could go on and on with your contention that it’s all true and none of it was reported by the “main stream media”, but I get tired of having to uncover the truth behind all the right wing media talking points you spout. For over 8 years we put up with Carl Roves playbook, accusing the Libs of doing what the administration was doing (or had done) to detract attention. It’s old hat and anyone with a lick of sense can see it when it is happening, no matter which side is playing the game.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that, since I watch more than just Fox (and I do check in on Fox each day) I did hear about the protests at the bank exec’s homes. In fact there was a discussion as to whether or not this was the right way to approach the issues that the SEIU ad with the banks. Almost sounds “fair and balanced”, and from the “main stream media’ no less!

      • Allan says:

So what you’re saying is the majority of Americans don’t have “a lick of sense” because we don’t listen to mainstream media and the democrats enough. If we only understood Obamacare better we’d love it, right? If we only understood how appeasing dictators is smart foreign policy, we’d love that too. Etc.

      • Bob Wire says:

We don’t know what you might love Allan.

It’s not so much a matter of loving or even liking,

but accepting. ~ rare is one’s life, that the news always “good”

We learn to deal with bad news. We learn to make the best of bad news.

I get the feeling you might have enjoyed 43′s approach to political diplomacy? ” Well Pilgrim, which way with it be, across my saddle or on your feet?”

Well those old “Lucky Strike” movies star are just movie history and very much over, those men are pushing up daisy’s.

Matter’s of state should be conducted in a respectful and dignified manner, void ego and male vibrato. Go out on the back porch with the flies and dogs to cuss, spit and widdle.

Save you big guns for when they are really needing, You pull them out too early you come across weak and out of control.

There is always that “last moment” to make them a deal they can’t refuse. But that comes at the end of the discussing just before they turn and leave.

      • BK Potts says:

Interesting about the second list you discussed. Each of those names other than Stern were from the various cabinet level departments. I guess Mr. Beck FOIA request was targeted at visitors not employees.

      • Kimberly says:

Thank you! Thank you Dave! You said it all and everything you wrote is right one! How much longer do we have to endure these inexperienced, crooked and dishonest wretches!

I guess this administration really thinks we’re all stupid & won’t notice what’s going on – well, SURPRISE! I knew it was all shady, I just didn’t know how it all tied together until Glenn!

I have a Memorial Day Tribute that I’ve asked just about everybody that I’m familiar with on this site to watch. “Tinwarble”, who used to comment on this site all the time, created the video for my son’s band (Whiskey Brown). They’re not a bunch of amateurs, they’ve all been in the music business all their lives. I hope you’ll view it & send it to all your friends & family. Something else the MSM forgot to mention? Who woulda thunk?…..If you work for or own a small business, be prepared to be unemployed starting in January 2012. Please take the time to read this:

        Average Joe,

Thank you for posting this! I almost didn’t go to the site because my eyes are about to “bleed” from working on the computer 24/7, but I’m glad I did. I AM a small business & this is just another way to destroy me. I don’t make enough money to live now & what I do involves tons of paperwork so that’s all I need…MORE paperwork!

I told my partner (& boyfriend) before the Health Care hoax passed, that the bill HAD to include more crap than just health care with 3000 pages. In 3000 pages you could list everybody that had ever been to the hospital.

Let’s see, we’ve now opened several of Nasty Piglousy’s “surprise packages”: we have government takeover of student loans, doctors who’ll be armed (which gives a whole new meaning to having to get a “shot”), abortions covered, death panels (by who gets care & who doesn’t, just like everybody knew) & now this 1099 BS. What other “surprises” are we going to “unwrap” before it’s all over?!

Happy Memorial Day! Please watch this Memorial Day Tribute that “Tinwarble” (who used to comment on this site) created for my son’s band (Whiskey Brown). If you like it, please send it to all you family & friends! It’s a tribute to our military (past & present) & to America! We want everybody in the country to remember Memorial Day for what it actually means! Thank You!

Tim, I do not believe your posts pass the simple “common sense test”. The term ATTACK was used as a metaphor. Similar to the use of ASSAULT as in, “Tim’s posts assault common sense”. The fact that you rely on news outlets for validation tells me two things about you; you are reactionary with no original thoughts, and your experience on this topic is limited to what you have read about.

    • Kimberly says:

No, it is not fear mongering or whatever you called it. I happen to be a small business owner who was audited. They tied up our business for 7 or 8 years and still haven’t resolved anything. We know we haven’t purposely done anything wrong but they just want to keep talking to our clients, digging thru records they have gone thru time and time again. Don’t you think there is a cost associated with an exercise like this — for the government as well as our little business which has all of a husand, wife and one employee.

      • alice says:

Reply to Kimberly. How many people in this country know that the IRS has been given 1800 12ga. shotguns. I guess this the new IRS army we’ve been warned about, with the power to enforce United Nations laws against the USA. Take away small business in our country and it’s pretty much all over. But didn’t I here somewhere that was this administrations plan all along……. Look up Saul Alinski, or Cloward and Pivin. The press wouldn’t tell you that Obama taught this as a professor at HARVARD what a affirmative action joke, on how to overwhelm any system with soo much chaos to the point of collapse……..

      • Billy says:

Mr. Obama does not love America as it is, and he wants to see it changed to be a socialist. Have you ever seen a socialist government that wants to support capitalism and free enterprise. For Obama’s plans to succeed, he will need to put us out of business. However, to show his lack of understanding, like all socialist; you can’t pay for programs to give to the lazy useless masses without money. Getting rid of income producers will ultimately destroy their plans. This is what happened to Russia as they tried to compete with the USA without the finances to do it. Ameica became great because of free enterprise and individual freedoms, and this is the reason all of these useless members of society want to come here with their hand out.

      • JC says:

The Dept. of Education is arming up too.

    • Roylyn08 says:

For TIM – We BOTH know that the mainstream media will NEVER post anythng bad about the government. The networks are apparently on the payroll of the White House. Don’t beleive it ??? Look at Dan Rather that was on CBS. Caught in an open bare faced lie. Typical network news. Not even CNN is capable of telling the truth.

    • Tim Where do I find a honest newspaper? As for the people on the street most do not have a clue!! Kind of like you! Fox news is not perfect but they are so much better then the other news outlets that there is really no way to compare them. They are like Obama, you can not believe anything that they say because they have lied so much that you must not believe anything they say!!

    • garry bowes says:

What are you smoking? A dead head that probably believes Obama is Santa Claus, liberalism is a mental disease. Small business is the backbone of America. They employee at least 70% of American workers. Get the IRS and big government out of the way to let the economy grow.

    • alice says:

Answer to Tim. So you think the press that at every point to protect this administration, no matter the cost is now going to say anything negative or against these con men. So where did you first here Obama’s records all of them were sealed from view. He’s going to be the first president to ignore Arlington full of our dead war heroes. Who told you Rev Wright was a former Muslim, I guess that doesn’t matter because Obama didn’t listen to all that 20yrs of anti-American hate speech. Obama bought his house from another Muslim Tony Resco from Pakistan. Somebody better care Obama’s senior advisor is Valerie Jarret, from Iran. Then let’s fill the White House with Czars that don’t answer to anyone, just like the Commy Van Jones, that what he called himself………

    • Allan says:

      Tim-

The term lamestream media arises from the filtering of information to fit a social agenda. People have found other sources they prefer. Journalists have done it to themsleves.

    • Billy says:

Tim: If we turn off Fox News, who will give us the news? Thank God for Fox News as the others are commonly owned and desire to present only their ideas of socialism. If it weren’t for fox news we would never hear the truth, plus these guys are a thorn in the side of OBAMA, Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Barney Franks that want to destroy America.

Tim, maybe you should try working as a businessman and attempting to be a successful productive member of society.

    • lylacavanaugh says:

The IRS has been hassling independent workers for years, saying they should be classified as “employees.” This happened in the cab business. We fought for 30 years until the cabs went out of business from lack of business (passengers) But this REAL ATTACK is still going on now I am sure. Even if they can’t squeeze juice from turnips!

    • C Mackenzie says:

What are you smoking? You have believed the lie.

  3. American liberal says:

To live in American and to have the infrastructure we have the government has to tax… This biggest diffrence is now the top 3 % will be required to pay they’re fair share….Not much in this artical we haven’t heard before….small business needs to take advantage of the new benifits offered… Lots of exemptions for companys with less than 55 employes .. Most of the anti tax citys are turning off streetlights, layingoff police, fireman , potholes in the streets, empty swimming pools, cuts in education and after school programs… Restrooms in public parks are bring closed and if you use public picnic areas you pack out your trash because the garbage cans have been taken away due to lack of funds….if you don’t mind living in a 3rd world country then elect the anti tax politicians…I’m looking forward to seeing those tax cuts for the top 3% to expire in 2011…business did pretty good in the 90′s and we need that tax code again…if you’re waiting for the rich to toss you a bone it’s not going to happen…has it during the last decade?..i also doubt were going to see raids on small business like this article want you to believe…

      • TIME says:

        Rob,
Look at the past post by these buffoons, they live in mommies basement and don’t do much of anything other than watch numb nuts TV.
If they had 1/1000000 of a brain cell I mean just “one single” brain cell perhaps they may grasp a nano of it.
But then again they don’t even have a nano of a single brain cell and thats quite clear by their post day after day.

Can you really expect they would post anything that bare fruit in the real world? I mean the world where people make a real living, and pay real tax’s as in work until July or August just to pay tax’s.

      • JeffH says:

Time, at least the tune has changed. It’s no longer the top 2%, now it’s gone up to 3%…wow! It’s always the rich corporations that are the culprits when the real culprits are those running the country, the same ones that make the laws andtake the upper 3%’s protection money to make those laws. These anti-capitalist, anti-corporatists are a real piece of work. Sound familiar? When the money runs out, tax tax tax, but oh no, don’t hold the spenders accountable…afterall…it take a lot of money to run a high end country club like DC.

Here’s a little tidbit of past information.
Tax Cheats in Government Edition – January 31, 2009

Government continues to throw money at problems without properly acknowledging that it is one of the problems.
Now it is clear that some of our new Cabinet officers have their own money problems, namely, being tax cheats. Treasury Secretary Geithner and HHS nominee Daschle both seem to have trouble with tax law compliance.

These fellas claim to have made innocent mistakes. Is the idea of having tax incompetents running our government and spending our money more appealing? Is anyone surprised that a new President has the same tendency as our previous President, i.e., picking “leaders” in spite of some painfully obvious (and in my opinion, disqualifying) flaws? I am not surprised. As usual, politics trumps competence and integrity.

New bill extends special interest tax breaks
The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act would extend 70 expiring subsidies at a cost of $28.5 billion over the next two years.

Congress’ latest effort to continue scores of soon-to-expire special interest tax breaks. “The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act” (AJACTLA)
The idea that a bill that would do so little to create jobs or close loopholes—and would in reality continue so many special interest tax breaks—would be so hideously mislabeled. The bill would extend, count ‘em, 70 expiring subsidies at a cost of $28.5 billion over the next two years. There is little or no evidence that any of these goodies have ever created jobs, and thus it is unreasonable to believe they will produce any in the future—or that their long-postponed deaths would cost jobs.

    • Beberoni says:

Dude, are you serious. The top 3 percent, allready pay 90 percent of the taxes in this country. When is enough, enough. What will we do when they all get tired of unfairly being taxed to death, and all leave this country to go do business where they arent treated as the evil ones? Then who is going to pay? Have you ever had a poor man give you a job? Let me enlighten you on something, that maybe you dont know about. When Bush put into place his tax cuts, the company I work for, with 80 to 100 employee’s, hired 30 new guys. With-in 3 months of Obama getting elected, 20 of them lost their jobs, because nobody wanted to spend money to build, knowing the democrat tax monsters were now in power. Sorry, but thats just the facts man. Now, Obama and his thugsters are going to rescind these tax cuts, and we are going to have to cough up some more dough to the tax machine, and these 10 plus probably 10 more are going to see their jobs gone, and it is going to be millions across America, as Obama and his boys decide to take tax revenue from business’s, that would normally be used to hire employee’s. Not my opinion, not my wants, just the facts. Thats how it is. You or I cannot change the facts. What is, is what is. Now you stop taxing business’s, the better it is for us working joes, and everyone, as more people get hired, they are paying taxes and spending money supporting other business’s and its a win win situation. Or we can demonize them, treat them unfairly, and watch them leave, which seems to be the democrats daily way of doing business, you know, punish the successful, then take failures like GM and Chrysler, and reward them by giving them billions of dollars of our money. Thats what is truly wrong.

      • Duende says:

Due.. you are so brainwashed into defending those poor elites. I say let every American make their first million tax free and then start a sliding scale. Now that’s fair to the workers AND the wealthy .

‘However we need to first get control of our country and that’s never going to happen with people believing the good cop bad cop routine of the two main parties both who are totally beholding to the elite of the planet and will screw every working man or woman, American or Honduran etc to the wall. Wake the ^%$# UP!!!

So “most cities” are cutting police, fire and educators. Nice isn’t that? The people that are productive and we need. Not the people that are sucking us dry through social services and certainly not the illegal criminals here? Makes a lot of sense to me that we would pay the unproductive, do nothings and get rid of the services and people that we need as a society. Sorry your liberal comments just don’t hold water.

      • Bob Wire says:

“most cities” are cutting police, fire and educators. Sorry your liberal comments just don’t hold water.”

I fail to find the “liberal comments” you mention ~but without the Stimulus provided by the current administration, these cuts would have been much, much deeper.

American lib,of course taxes and government are a nessecity without them we would not have infrastructure or defense (WHICH IS ALL THE GOVERNEMENT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE IN CONTROL OF ANYWAY) the rest is up to the states then counties then cities because we pay taxes to all of them,so with that said no street lights or trash cans public transit is all on the states and the repsective population I DO NOT WANT TO FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT IN L.A. WHEN I LIVE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY im also sick and tired of going into a grocery store see some fat as.sss load $200.00 worth of groceries (that i just personally saw them pay for with an ebt card (foodstamps)) into a friggin caddy and or jaguar or bmw i see it alot.So if you bleeding heart liberal wants to pay for that put $25.00 a month in their mailbox but expect me to pay for their lazy asses (excluding the sick and elderly)

    • samurai says:

Am Lib, how many times have we got to tell you to get of the koolaide? This is a very real possibility with this Nazi/Stalinist we have in office, but the won’t be called the IRS. Instead, they’ll be called the Gestapo or the Stormtroopers (1939-1945). Obama bin Laden needs all the money he can get for his shredding of the constitution. Since our government is broke, he can only get extra money from China and the backs of the American people. I challenge you to post some facts and back them up with sources. Put your sources on your posts and I’ll look them up.

The Nazis sought to distinguish and separate themselves from conservative nationalist competitors such as the German National People’s Party (DNVP) by officially denouncing conservatism, and attacking conservative nationalists for being reactionary, bourgeois enemies of the German nation <<

Excellent statement coming from a mentally challenged liberal.Maybe you should do a little homework and actually find out WHO IT IS that pays the bulk of the taxes in America. It sure isn’t the liberals living in their parent’s basement’s taking Nancy Pelosi’s advice to “chase your dream, the government will support you”.

You liberals really slay me.Who is it that provides the bulk of the jobs that the bulk of the people hold? That would be THE RICH.Watch what happens when your MESSIAH let’s the tax cuts expire. The rich will show you mentally incompetent liberals how important they are to our country.

Now please, turn off your mommy’s computer.Stop eating them out of house and home. And try growing up and being responsible for yourself instead of making other people pay your way.

    • rightwing barry says:

typical liberal stupidity. still believing the government machine-white house, main stream media, etc. you obviously never worked for yourself or owned your own business, or you would know about the devastating power of the irs. get your head out of the sand or it will be too late. also, use spell check.

    • Right Wing says:

Am lib you are doing a great job as the poster child for socialism…keep up the good work. You represent to type of moron that drags this country down because you have lost patience waiting for the rich to throw you a bone and now you are demanding it. Try starting a business or getting a job so you can become one of the few that support the likes of you. That way you would see what a drag it is to be you.

The only thing I can say to you is this (and you can quote me); “You are exactly the despicable reason this nation is in trouble.” You summed-up your mentality by asking, “if you’re waiting for the rich to toss you a bone…” Why do you think that ANYONE should “toss you a bone?” You are a LOST SHEEP ! Do you think that feeding yourself and earning your OWN keep is someone else’s responsibility? If so, then you are a socialist and exactly what many of us loathe. Get a job, learn to fend for yourself and expect NO pity from independents like myself. I don’t want government growing MORE government then taking my hard-earned money to “spend” without representation! Hiring 2,000 more IRS agents to “lean” on businesses to pay for government “excesses” is a bad balance of power. Just remember, “A government big enough to give you everything can also TAKE everything.

    • JC says:

Why do they have to tax? Why don’t they just print money, they seem pretty good at it? In fact if they keep prining money the economy will implode and there will be nothing to tax and no infrastructure to worry about.
So print and tax away Obama boy! America will change very quickly…into a blood bath.

  4. I have to say that not only is this article accurate, I have already seen the movement in my industry which is cosmetology/barbering. This is an industry rife with tax fraud. Not only is there a huge problem with the IC game to avoid matching the SS/MC but this game causes a problem with the underreporting of income and underreporting of tip income. I run a compliant salon. Not only can I NOT GET HELP, I am trying to compete against people who have payroll costs 30% lower then mine. In a bad economy this has been a very real hardship. This flood of auditing has been long awaited for me. I know of examples where business owners have already been nailed. Very successful businesses which are now having to play by the rules are seeing the reality of what happens when you stick your head in the sand. Get a good tax attorney AND LISTEN TO THEM!!!!

  5. J.M.R. says:

sounds like a.l. has worked for poor people and made money, what a joke. i never worked for a poor person and made a living. wheres the tax checking on the scum in D.C. THAT HAVEN.T PAID THIER FAIR SHARE A.L.. this is just another liberal rip off of hard working real americans.

    • Beberoni says:

It does seem that there are an awful lot of guys in the Obama cabinet that seem to have a problem with remember to pay taxes, and yet somehow, they get away with it. Then they want to tax to death everyone else, but they dont think they should have to pay. Imagine that.

    • Sam says:

Son, read your books. They make the laws. They know how to use them.

  6. Ed says:

The reason you dont see this type of report on most news channels is the fact they are liberal in their approach. They are clearly pushing an agenda. Every hour on the hour the “major” news outlets push a unified message, the “mainstream” press reinforces it and most television news outlets carry out further indoctrination. Tim has things exactly opposite of what they really are but he has been blinded by the progressive propaganda machine.

As far as not having resources to provide society with things like bathrooms in the parks you have to consider the fact that the money was once there. What happened to it? The idea that the upper 3% arent paying their share and if they would everything would be fine is simply absurd. All americans are taxed heavily but the class warfare carried out by the left and the left wing press works. Proof is found in the reply of American Liberal. This person has been properly programmed to resent those that have more and the solution is of course to get revenge.

    • Right Wing says:

Ed, a very tactful and well written post. The liberal viewpoint is baffling on many topics and seems to be churned out from a boiler-plate play book.

    • Sam says:

You are a very nice writer Ed. None of this has just suddenly occured you know. It takes years for government (and that includes the figurehead our president)to waste so much money or to give it to people who really have no need of it, and then it takes years to try to resolve the various issues. Trying to pin the blame is really a tricky business, and one that is usually deeply buried. Greed, knee jerk reactions, and most commonly voting down party lines is what really gets us in these situations. The true wasters are our senators and representatives. They also make laws that few if any of us really understand.

      • Bob Wire says:

I think Karl Rove and Rupert Murdock joined together and made it a science. Back in the late 70′s or early 80′s Karl was a campaign manager for a Hopeful Texas Governor. ~ 2 weeks before the election and the race was too close to call. Karl discovers a electronic bug in his office and alerts the FBI, followed by media news coverage. The media blitz was just what Karl’s campaign needed to swing the vote and they won the election.

It was later determined from the battery life of the devise, it had been active for only 30 minute. Also later determined and covered up was Karl had some buddies in the FBI ~ and any attempt to locate the receiving devise was never done.

So~ one hand washes the other,

That this ploy is understood and capable of being duplicated on many levels, employed by both side, it should raise calls for concern.

naw! have it your way, ~ it’s only main stream media! and a bunch of pick-o, tree hugging liberals hard at work trying not work while stealing you blind and sell out America

  7. Frank the Libertarian says:

If these laws were on the books and not being enforced, then its not really an attack per se, more like thorough enforcement. HOWEVER, we know by past evidence that misunderstandings, mis communications, and jack boot “raids” have taken place in America by the IRS. If it were handeled intelligently and with civility I wouldnt be concerned. Also all to often the IRS is used as a tool to diminish competition within certain markets.

  8. derVenerschnitzel says:

They should concentrate on illegals who pay no taxes… round ‘em up & send ‘em home.

    • Cribster says:

      Bravo!

Not to mention the 45 BILLION sent south of the border every year in remittances, 25 BILLION of which goes to Mexico.

    • Beberoni says:

You are correct. Or make Nancy Pelosi pay them for them, since she, and Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein and Ahnold all think its just fine to let them come into Kalifornia illegally and the rest of the states can have money sucked out of them and poured into Kalifornia to pay for them. Let Pelosi pay for them.

      • Cribster says:

Pelosi is using them to pick the grapes in her vineyards.

What would she do without her precious little slaves?

      • TIME says:

Do your recall her special speack, about, OH the Little people, what will they do the little people, they are so mistreated and misunderstood, we must do more to help the little people.

Then she pass’s a law that allows her to underpay her employes. Don’t you just love the double standards.

      • TIME says:

Forgive me spelling police I made a mistake I mean – Speech.

      • Hey, who remembers the video of Pelosi hi-fiving the Latino’s and dancing around the room with them?

  9. Rude Dog says:

I absolutely don’t think 60 minutes would report this. There is a definite divide in this country today between people and organizations that are Progressive and Conservative. It is very clear in their reporting today. There will never be bi-partisan support between people that believe so differently on fundamental issues, nor should we expect them to. The great thing is currently we all have the right to express our opinions, mine being if our government took as seriously the illegal border crossings from mexico as they do collecting taxes from US citizens, we wouldn’t have near the drugs, illegals and costs to states as we have today which means savings to our government and the taxpayer. ANd that doesn’t make me a racist!!! Ourlaws are there to protect our country and need to be enforced.

    • Beberoni says:

And yet our own Federal government, who does nothing about this, lambasts Arizona when they take a stand. All border states should stand behind Arizona and do the same thing, and our Federal government should be leading the way, instead of vying for the hispanic vote so much, that they turn a blind eye to try to make them like them enough to vote for them. Makes me sick. Its sad to see these lawyers in office destroying our country. Damn lawyers anyways.

      • Sam says:

Yes, and we have been electing lawyers to run our nation for such a very long time. Perhaps we should can the whole party system idea and just vote for representative, who of course aren’t lawyers, to…oh, my, make our country’s laws. But you do know why they bury lawyers 12 feet deep rather than 6 don’t you? Because even lawyers are good people deep down.

  10. Rude Dog says:

Our IRS system is corrupt. The only way to get rid of the corruption is to vote honest people into congress instead of career politicians that will change the IRS system into something more effective and a whole lot simpler. IT could also reduce the cost of operating the IRS and collect money from not only tax payers but those coming into our country for business and pleasure. THe IRS rules and regulations are there to line the pockets of politicians and lawyers. There are much easier ways to collect taxes that are citizen friendly, cost effective and more productive that will actuallly lower our taxes. Its currently not only about the money but about the control of the people.

  11. Al Cook says:

So how did we expect to pay for Bush’s war? He gave away the largest surplus the treasury has had in history. He called it a tax cut and made election promises he knew would nearly bankrupt this country. Then he started a war with the wrong country for nebulous reasons. Did we think there would be no cost to his madness? Time to pay up America! Time to pay our share of his phony prosperity.

Do I think President Obama has the answers? Nope! But he has more chance if he and his administration are willing to risk condemnation for being realistic, and realism is recognizing that you can’t lead hundreds of millions of people into a great life by inflation. The cost of prosperity is PARTICIPATION.

    • Beberoni says:

Oh, you mean the war the democratic congress all voted to participate in? You mean the war, that before Bush was even a candidate for President, that Bill Clinton stood up on TV and said Saddam Hussein has WMD’s and has to be stopped? That war? Yeah, and Bill Clinton had a surplus, that cutting the military in half and the intelligence community in thirds, letting the terrorists roam about and set up 9-11 because we had no intelligence to catch them. Hell man, I could balance the budget in two years doing that, but at what cost? All that we are fighting against now, is because of lack of intelligence or faulty intelligence, thanks to the actions of one Bill Clinton. At least Mr. Bush had a pair of cahoonies and stopped letting them punch us in the nose constantly like the pervert in office before him did. That is why we are in the mess, so dont lose sight of the truth pal.

      • Steve says:

Bravo Beberoni!!!! Another quality reply. You Rock!

      • martyh111 says:

Good reply and I agree with Barbaroni But he still didn’t expound on the fact that the war is still going on and expanded to Afganistan. Plus the biggest reason we are being taxed to death is that Our Obama has continued printing money that does not exist and the national debt has almost trippled in the year & 4 months he has been in office.

      • Right Wing says:

        Berberoni, applause.

      • Sam says:

How sweet. Boobaroni has a fan club.

    • Dave says:

Al, no one is stoping you from giving your money to the IRS. It’s legal to do this. You can send them as much as you want. In fact, let everyone you know who has a giving heart as large as yours, they can also give as much as they want to the IRS. Myself, I want to keep as much of my money as I can. I believe I won’t foolishly spend the money I have to earn every day

    • Dagney says:

Oh, brother! And, I have a bridge in New York to sell you, too! Clinton’s so-called “surplus” was the Social Security Trust Fund! You progressives will just have to shut down the internet if you want your lies to continue to make you look good. Everything you said is researchable at our finger tips. Starting a war with a country that harbors terrorists, who sabre-rattles that it’s going to have nukes, that even the Clinton administration thought it had, and that was unanimously voted for by our Congresss….yeah, Bush’s nefarious dirty dealing and an illegitimate war, right???

At least with the previous president, you had the sense that even though he was wrong on a lot of things, he loved this country. With the current president and with all his appointed cabinet, and these idiots who will not see the destruction he is causing to consolidate his power, if you are in your right mind, you have to see that he hates this country and wants to bring it down. I do hope the Sestack thing is impeachable because this president needs to be thrown out on his tail!

      • Thank you for using the “IMPEACH” word..we need to get that out there being used in the media more and more, get more people talking about it. I have been saying IMPEACH OBAMA for about 16 months now.

      • Allan says:

        Totally agree with your sentiments.

      • Bob Wire says:

“The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

Name just one thing you hold evidence of and you’ll most welcome to try. Until that time, allow me to say, It pleases me that your Tea Party folks still holds to the belief that the majority rules however, the perception that they are the only majority that counts I find most concerning.

So what we see is, Rules are fine as long as you’re interest are being address and carried out.If not, form an exclusive crowd of like minded people and from that, form your own person majority and find justification in being upset.

Have I got it correct? or did I miss something?

  12. Arlington Kennedy says:

    Tim,
Your part of the problem, why don’t you shut your mouth if you don’t have a clue? Your an idiot……………or stupid!

HERE A FACT TIM (GOOGLE GRACE COMMISSION REPORT) THIS COMMISSION WAS CREATED BY RONALD REAGAN AND PROVES THAT NONE OF THE PERSONAL INCOME TAX GOES TO PAY FOR ANY GOVERNMENT SERVICES AND IS USED TO PAY ONLY THE INTEREST ON THE NATIONAL DEBT.(NOW $ 13 TRILLIONS) FACTS NOT CONSPIRACY THEORY…
THE FEDERAL RESERVE (WHICH CREATES MOST OF OUR NATIONAL DEBT IN ISSUING OUR CURRENCY PRIVATELY AT A COST OF 4 CENTS AND SELLING IT BACK TO OUR GOVERNMENT FOR FULL FACE VALUE )
AND THE FEDERAL INCOME TAX WERE CREATED IN THE SAME YEAR 1913 , THE INCOME TAX WAS CREATED TO FINANCE THE FEDERAL RESERVE (TO COVER THE COST OF ISSUING MONEY THROUGH A CARTEL OF PRIVATE BANKS)
IT WOULD COST VERY LITTLE TO OUR GOVERNMENT TO ISSUE THE DOLLAR DIRECTLY WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY A CENTRAL BANK,,,,,ELIMINATING MOST OF THE NATIONAL DEBT AND NOT HAVING TO COLLECT INCOME TAX . THE CORPORATE TAX WHICH IS OK IS USED FOR THE MILITARY BUDGET ….SCHOOL ROADS ETC IS PAID BY LOCAL TAX…
THERE WAS NO INCOME TAX BEFORE THE FEDERAL RESERVE WAS CREATED SO HOW THE COUNTRY WAS OPERATED FOR ALL THESE YEARS ? ASK YOURSELF TIM ! COMMON SENSE RIGHT ?

    • Al Sieber says:

REYKOOL, I agree with you 100%. it’s hard to realize that the cause of most of our problems are because of the Federal Reserve.

      • JC says:

        And it’s extension…the IRS.

      • Al Sieber says:

You got that right, the enforcement and collection agency for the Federal Reserve. Henry Ford said if the people ever found out the true facts about the Federal Reserve there would be riots in the streets. I wonder if that holds true today.

      • Sam says:

No, it’s not. Where do you get this stuff?

      • Right Wing says:

        Sam
Got anything more than no? Try connecting a few more synapses and formulate a rational thought.

      • JC says:

History. There are a good many books on the subject…none in the colleges and universities.

      • JC says:

Try researching the Rothschilds, Bank of England and Inland Revenue at about the time of the War of Independence. It’s a lot of reading but it will give you the outline of what happened then and how it has manifested itself here as the Federal Reserve and the IRS…neither are government.

    • Right Wing says:

Good info Rey. According to the Wikipedia post for the Grace report, “…one third of all income taxes is consumed by waste and inefficiency in the federal government, and another one third escapes collection owing to the underground economy.” I guess this answers my question as to whether the benefits outweigh the cost. Looks like it is a break even at a minimum so in other words, this exercise by the IRS is one of futility that will only cause stress and hardship on small business.

  14. Jim Allen says:

A lot of good comments except for Tim’s rantings. However, let us all remember that the IRS is only doing what OUR REPRESENTIVES AND SENATORS have told them to do.

We need a taxing method which deletes the IRS.

    • Beberoni says:

Just think of the money we would save, if we abolished the IRS, merged the CIA and FBI, and got out of the United Nations. Probably be able to pay off the debt in a few years.

    • JC says:

Jim, I think it’s the other way around.
The IRS is an agent of the Federal Reserve, not the government.
Our representatives are doing what they are told by the Fed.
They don’t represent us…they represent the bankers “to” us.
Electing them is just part of the dog and pony show.

  15. Taxed Enough Already says:

I am a small business. All I can say to those who seem to want not to live in a third world country, voluntarialy pay a generous portion without the IRS having to go to the trouble of extracting it from you. Our govt is too big and too clumsy to take care of what it gets already. It never gets enough and if it took everything you made it wouldn’t be enough. Too many free loaders leach off of our govt goodies and the IRS is just looking for more more more!

  16. Norm says:

If you can’t make money and play by the rules maybe you are not a very good small business person.
The rules apply to everyone, no special favors are given, and so include all your expenses into your bottom line.
If you can’t compete, stop crying, and go into another line of work.
Anybody can get rich if they pay slave wages, exclude all employee benifits, and don’t pay taxes.

    • Beberoni says:

Not true. You have to have a product that people will willingly pay for. In our free market system, nobody forces you to buy anything from anybody, except now the federal government is going to start forcing folks to buy health insurance fromt the people of their choosing. This is the start of the free market system collapsing, when the government decides who should have what and where they get it from. So not anybody can get rich.

      • Norm says:

        Beberoni
If you don’t have a marketable product of course you have no business.

As for health care the problem is that the people that don’t have it are subsidized by the people who do and by goverenment handouts(taxpayers). If the people with no insurance were simply left to die in the streets, you might have a valid argument.

    • Grace says:

Oh please, the Federal government and all of the Fed and state contractors are ssssssoooooo rife with fraud, waste, corruption, kickbacks, favors and on and on and on and luckily, they don’t have to “compete” at all – just suck from the productive people. This self-righteous BS does not cut it anymore. I doubt you are a small business owner, and if you are – you have either been very fortunate or very well-off to begin with. (yeah yeah, lets hear how much smarter and/or superior in so many ways that you are then everyone else now.)

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN says:

You go Grace! All the corruption is in Washington. Nancy Pelosi has tons of money. Her and all the others who have tons of money know the loopholes to get out of paying taxes. And if they don’t know, they have the money to pay those who do! The middle class is holding up this country. It’s the private businesses that are the backbone!

    • TeresaE says:

Hey Norm, succeeding under the rules means offshoring more jobs.

Look around, how well you think that is working out for us?

This is just the last step before we are all in poverty.

Share the wealth, really means, let the government and uber rich (which this won’t touch at all) get all the gravy, lift the lives of citizens in other countries and take it from YOU.

YOU are the “wealth” they keep talking about sharing.

Today it is small business, once those are gone (and that day is coming sooner than you could believe) they will have no choice left but to attack YOU.

Unless you think China is going to let the IRS tax their businesses?

      bwaaahaaahaaaa

  17. john says:

Why do the libs constantly want to attack the “3%” of rich people. They already pay big bucks.Libs need to look at reality which is that up to 50% of people pay no taxes at all. That is pure bs.Regardless of how much you make, every single person should be paying SOMETHING. This IRS plan is not bs, it is very real. If you expect ANY liberal media(including very liberal “60 Minutes” to talk out against Obama,it is you that has his head in the sand.Get ready for increased intensity in this country brought on by Obama and his fellow crooks.Sooner or later the question will be how much will the people take before they have had enough and act out. With 20% unemployment in some areas I predict this summer, during a heat wave and power outages the peeps will start to unravel and if I am correct it will not be pretty.By the way, this would be the non tax paying peeps that the tax paying peeps will have to pay to clean up.Slowly but surely people are getting fed up with this joke of a president. We shall see.

    • Dagney says:

The “peeps” better not start to “unravel”. We must all keep our heads! Violence is just what this administration wants to end elections and declare martial law. Remember, the so-called “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” includes a provision for a “Ready Reserve”. If he lasts long enough for it to be implemented, Obama will have his own private army! There is so much here that is evil, and people just don’t want to believe it.

  18. Reggie Brian says:

The difference is that successful businessmen decide who to listen to before executing a plan based on that advice. The poster above who presumes that I watch Fox News (or that I even own a TV) shows that he thinks that everyone thinks the same way he does. And as such, I could take his advice and then be just like him: average. Another word for average in this case is “mediocre”. I suppose that you can make a living as owner of a small business by being mediocre. I would rather not, personally. And this discussion is inherently self-referential and almost self-defeating. For anyone who wants to do things the way “the rest” of the people do it will occupy that vast, wide-open, anonymous space under the tall part of the bell curve. And that is, of course, not where the IRS is going to look for people who might be doing things differently from the way they think they should be doing it. So to “Tim” and ‘American’ above, you will probably not understand this. And that is OK, since you are not the intended recipient of this information in the first place. IF you were, it would probably have been watered down more so that it was suitable for your tastes… like they do on Fox News.

  19. Bruce Eden says:

Once again, all you so-called “taxpayers” are being duped into paying taxes by the government. Given that our Chief Executive, our purported President, has said that we are going to REDISTRIBUTE wealth in this country, this is a mandate by him and the executive branch of government. If he wants to REDISTRIBUTE, let’s give it to him. Everyone needs to change their exemptions/dependents on their W-2s and 1040s to 300,000,000–the population of the United States. Since we’re being told we have to redistribute, then everyone is fair game and everyone in the nation is considered DEPENDENTS.

  20. Gregg Newman says:

As the owner of a small business I can not see the need for further decimation of the small business man. I have two crews that are contract labor because I cannot be competitive if I paid everyone by the hour. The burden is just to high. I have to work the first 4 to 5 months just to try and cover overhead, taxes and job cost before I start making any money. Given this poor economy it is longer than that now.. Maybe if the Feds spent the tax money they collect responsibly they would not have to resort to these strong arm tactics. If they spent less on welfare, pork barrel projects, bailing out all the unions, big business and propping up other countries the money would be there for needs of the American people. If the average American ran there business like the Feds do than we would all be in prison. This spending spree that the current administration is on will take decades to recover from and they will target small businesses since the big corporations have congress and the president in there back pocket.

    • Beberoni says:

And they want to tax the life out of you, yet take the GM and Chrslers of the world, and not only give them billions to operate on, they give them billions in tax breaks. Its baloney. Stop rewarding bad behavior in this country, and stop punishing the successful and rewarding the failures and the lazy bums that wont work.

      • Bob Wire says:

Well spoken ! and right to the heart of the matter, thank you for your insightful comment. That needs to be said more often and loudly!

    • Larry S says:

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment, a flat tax or fair tax would eliminate a multitude of levels of government waste. Volumes of tax code that even many in the IRS do not understand, but government employees, accountants and lawyers ….. all love it.
We would have more than enough money to run the country, balance the budget and be more productive.
The last IRS audit we endured wasted days, volumes of photo copies and the end result was we were not properly documenting business mile vs. personal miles on company cars. The total penalty was less than $2,000 for a three year period.
I am sure there are those that fly under the radar and fleece the system, but flat or fair would eliminate most of the games played to reduce the tax bite.

  21. Cribster says:

If not for waste, fraud and abuse a fifteen percent fair tax would generate more than enough money to run the country.

We could eliminate the I.R.S. Nazis and save millions there. Government needs to be reduced 20-30 percent and save billions there.
There are thousands of worthless bureaucrats that do nothing more than rearrange pencils in their pencil holders, drink coffee and BS all day. Other worthless bureaucrats exist to make life miserable for law abiding, tax paying citizens by creating and enforcing more rules and regulations. Punishing people who produce and rewarding sloth. ACORN type people like Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Chris Dodd, Franklin Rains, the list goes on and on.

They are not only a waste of money they are a waste of flesh. If we could purge the government of that type of miscreant our coffers would be overflowing and the world would be a better place.

  22. Trudy says:

I AM A PROUD U.S. CITIZEN AND AM HAPPY TO PAY MY TAXES TO PROTECT ME FROM IDIOT CONSERVATIVES WITH GUNS AND NO BRAINS.

    • Reggie Brian says:

That’s no way to talk about the IRS.

    • Meteorlady says:

Trudy – nice intelligent, all encompassing comment. I can’t wait for more of you keen insight regarding articles you read here.

    • Beberoni says:

And the democrats love you, and would love to liberate more of your money from you, that is if your working. They love blind uneducated sheeple like you. Just send Tim Geitner a check, so he can pay his taxes. Oops, he forgot. Darn it.

    • Dave says:

You misspelled you name. You reversed the U and the R. Hey! now you know what your head is filled with :)

    • Robin from Arcadia, IN says:

Trudy… I don’t think anyone that has posted thinks that taxes should be eliminated altogether. We know that the government needs our tax money to maintain our life that we have become accustomed to. However, they (IRS) are now attacking middle class America unlike ever before. I would be very happy to see the flat tax enacted. That way I would know that everybody is being taxed alike. I am a conservative and I personally don’t have my own gun yet, so I guess the only difference between you and me is that I think the loonies in Washington need to be ousted and common sense and morals need to be reinstated!

    • JeffH says:

“conservatives with guns and no brain”?…OK…way to complicated.
Could you break it down further so us simpltons can understand, please?

      • JC says:

I don’t know Jeff…I picture a woman who is afraid of the world and somehow thinks nothing bad will happen to her if Americans are disarmed. She’s obviously too simple to articulare beyond that.

    • Al Sieber says:

I know a lot of idiot democrats with guns and no brains. at least Bush gave a lot of tax breaks, it helped me buy a lot of extra mining equipt. that I needed, thank God for that.

    • JC says:

Oh my…poor Trudy. One of God’s simpler creatures.

    • Bob Wire says:

Trudy, Trudy, they got brains, they’re just shy and don’t want to expose them and fear giving us a complex.

  23. Meteorlady says:

I’m a small business owner and so is my husband. I own a dress shop and my husband has an irrigation business. A few years back the IRS did an audit on my husband because he hired our son during the summer and claimed it on his taxes. They spent 8 days on his audit kept picking at him so he finally paid $2,000 and gave up. They were mad because he threatened to take them to court but finally left. 8 days later I got an audit notice. They closed my business down to count my inventory. I was down for 3 days and lost $18,000 in business during that time. They found nothing even though the auditor spent 28 hours or your tax dollars trying to find something that would make him look good after spending so much time on me. After that for the next 3 years were were both audited every single year.

    • Bob Wire says:

It’s heart breaking to hear of such stories, and they are all too common. They are slow to go after the big guy, he has the resources to fight them with. ~ Small business really doesn’t. To make one clear dollar I must commit 13 dollars.

So 10 dollars is generated by 130 dollars and that not taking into account of time. So if I pay out 20 dollar it represented the generating of 260 dollars plus time a effort. A Slow way to get rich for one person.

Small business don’t have the time to sit and count beans (twice) these government employees do.

Actually, I’m working on my second million having completely given up on my first.

  24. SOPHIA says:

I think the verb “attack” is probably a bit over-reactionary here. I have personal experience in this issue. I am a small business owner (no employees) and also have been an employee. My husband is also both – farmer and work off the farm. I do our own taxes so try to understand the tax code (IMPOSSIBLE!!). A couple of years ago the company my husband worked for, a coal mine owned by a big oil company I will refer to as -XX–, closed down. About 300 people lost their job. In a rural area, that is a lot. There was a small severance package given to those last ones laid off. Imagine our surprise when we got 1099 saying the severance package was for an “independent contractor”! I called the HR person and told him that there was a mistake. These people who had been laid off were not independent contractors. He got quite rude with me and told me that -XX– tax lawyers are pretty smart and know what they are doing. I have no choice but to just pay the taxes. I told him we would just see what the IRS says. I then called the IRS and spoke to three different agents. The first and third both told me the same steps to take. The third man I talked to was very nice and very helpful–not a “jack-booted thug”. He told me that I was correct and he also told me that this is a large problem. There is even a world-famous fast food joint that gives 1099 -ind. cont. to young kids working for them flipping burgers!! Absolutely ridiculous! Anyway, back to my case, I called the union rep and at first he was clueless and pretty much ignored my call. Later that day he got a call from another person’s tax preparer with the same questions and information. He called me back and actually listened to me then. Out of the 300 employees, most of them went ahead and paid the full taxes either because they were afraid to stir the waters or their tax preparers were ignorant of the tax code. I filled out the proper forms, copied over 20 years of W-2 forms from -XX– and proved that husband was an employee. Within a few weeks, everyone got letters saying that -XX– was in violation and that everyone should amend their tax return. Now this amounted to an average of $300 per laid-off employee that they were not suppose to be be responsible for. The tax lawyers for -XX– who DID know EXACTLY what they were doing tried to slide $90,000 off their responsibility. This is not a small business, of course. And that amount of money is only a drop in their oil wells. Apparently though, if they do that here, where else?

I also worked for a Chiro that reported a massage therapist as an IC. Then she got hurt at work and wanted to file for work. comp. He had not paid for her because of her being an IC. However, in the fall-out from all of that, he had to back-pay taxes because, in fact, she was not an IC. He treated her as an employee. She had regular hours, had to clock in and out. If she did a massage during work hours, she had to clock out. When she was clocked in, she was not doing massage but doing Chiro. assist. work. She was an employee.

I am not discussing in this comment the merits of the tax code and whether is is fair to small businesses or any of those topics. I am only speaking of what is already in the tax code and should be enforced to the large corporations as well as everyone else. If you are a small business and use independent contractors, just make sure that those people fall into the proper description of what an
IC is. Sign a contract with them if needed. I would even suggest calling the IRS to find out if you need to. A lot of tax preparers do not understand the code. Shoot, a lot of agents don’t either!! GEt agent names and numbers when you speak to them. If you have a problem you then have the backup information to support your actions.

    • Right Wing says:

This is a classic example of a corporation trying to take advantage of a loophole when you know without a doubt they were trying to get away with it. I use ICs in my construction business because I have need for different trades on different jobs. If you have someone work for you on fixed hours and they perform as an employee, they are an employee and the company pays tax on them. Glad to see you stuck it back on their plate but I will say I don’t agree that the IRS should use such example as reason to expand enforcement. You simply can’t have the government try to make honest people out of everyone. Life is a “do it yourself” job.

      • Sam says:

no it’s not. life is a let the mexicans do it job.

      • Right Wing says:

        Sam
once again I am astounded by the depth of your “no”. I must have failed to grasp the depth of your intellect on your first one-line “no” response but I fully understand now. You are truly a most spectacular moron.

      • JC says:

        No he’s not
He’s just too lazy to type an entire thought! LOL
Probably works for the government! :)

  25. Iamsure says:

We can send the IRS home. We already print money to cover any excess spending. Well here is a solution that will end forever our need for the IRS. simply print money each year equal to the increase in the GNP. If we want a little inflation, the print more money, deflation, then print less money. Send the states their share. It is a simple, fair tax.

  26. Grace says:

I just cannot understand why they don’t just simplify the tax code – they are all supposed to be over-educated genuises – why do they want to fund all of this harrassment and pain? Is it because if they did make it all sensible that they could nor wring as much out of people?
Also – where in the Constitution does it say taxpayers are on the hook for things like Fed airplane liquor stashes and endless till death cushy Fed benefits and retirements to name only a tiny fraction of crap that we should not be on the hook for?

    • JR_FLA says:

Grace it’s quite simple; government doesn’t WANT to simplify the tax code because it works FOR them and against the taxpayers. The only way voters will influence this change is if we completely turn-over the “old corrupt legislator-lawyers” in washington and this November is our opportunity to send a very loud and clear signal of OUR intentions as “WE THE PEOPLE.” Vote every incumbent OUT of OFFICE this November…this will get their attention (once they are all unemployed).

    • Sam says:

tax laws are very hard to understand. all laws are difficult to defend yourself from if you are on the wrong side of the equation. our elected officials write the laws. they use the laws because they can. if we understand the laws we can too…but then they change the laws so we can’t. this is not a party thing at all. this is just simple greed and that’s the rest of the story.

  27. Patriot says:

When the government starts to get serious about all the unfunded liabilities of the union pension funds and the billions that illegal immigrants cost our country only then will we begin to solve our monetary issues. When policies do not affect you, you simply do not care. I have many family & friends that are retired from the unions, teachers, public works, politicians, etc. When our country is in severe economic crisis, when some of us lost nearly half of our 401k and other retirement funds, this union group was not affected. So, of course people in this demographic seem insolated from what the rest us feel on a daily basis. What would happen if our government reduced this funding by 1/2 since the revenues are not there and we are all in this together and need to tighten our belts? I am all for paying my fair share and tighten my belt there are limits to what one can take, it is getting really close to a tipping point. We need to demand better from our leaders, we are all in this together, if we agree on this then we have a starting point to get this under control.

I have run a business for nearly 20 years and I pay approximately 75% of my income to taxes, people need to know, at some point it does not make sense to stay in business, God help us if this happens. Instead of policies that will help all of us our government solution is hire more IRS agents (which increase the need for even more revenues), please see the hypocrisy in our leaders and lets’ start fresh, since many of these people our as corrupt as gangsters! This insanity needs to STOP!

    • Grace says:

I hear that…I keep thinking that at this point it would make so much more sense to shut down shop and just see what kind of benefits I could apply for – it’s almost like your stupid to make yourself a target by running a business when you could just get on the gravy train with half of your neighbors- sit outside all night on your deck drinking beer with absolutly nothing to worry about but what check or benefit would be arriving in your mailbox in the morning. (Complaining, disingenuously, about how you had no other choice but to be on the dole) Plus – you would no longer be a target – true freedom, the new American dream.

        Grace that point is here.

We have been “visited” by the EPA (we are a machine shop, recycle our machine oil, very few other chemicals – much less than the average housewife), the city, the county, the state and the IRS, plus the bank yanked our line of credit (never missed a payment) and cost us $50k in fees just to keep our mortgage that we have NEVER been late by one day on.

I wish people would wake the heck up before it is too late, but they won’t. All the propaganda is that we “rich” small businessmen, screw our employees, our tax collectors and sit on pallets of unclaimed tax.

Reality is we have mortgaged our lives, cashed out our savings and many weeks, our employees are paid ten times (or more) what we is left to pay ourselves.

This is intentional and we are the targets.

        Meanwhile, sheep say, “punish them!”

Well, hope the sheep like what this brings.

It isn’t shared wealth, it IS shared poverty.

  28. Mickey says:

the IRS operates without “debt management”. In other words, if it costs $10,000 to collect the $400 (see above) it will do so. Onother department that does this is the labor department. An accusation results in businesses just paying up without any true investigation because it costs the company too much money to fight the issue. Result, instant money for the fed.

Why not just cut the pork? Let the states decide what they can afford to do without California asking all the states to support their illegal (excuse me, obama’s “undocumented workers”) problem. Same with New York. Let Mexico redistribute its wealth.

  29. owldog says:

We talk about debt but how do we deal with it?

We need to know the rules and follow them. Without an efficient government, corporations and foreign companies will determine what kind of culture we become.

There will always be a power vacuum without a strong, efficient government.

    Interesting article, but sensational headlines.

Only the government is stupid enough to bite the hand that feeds them. Nearly all the government revenue comes from the private sector. Ripping off small business destroys the incentive for business to create jobs.

Every new government employee increases government expense and reduces revenue.

The only solution to government debt is to reduce spending. A sustainable govennment size would require a reduction of about 85%. Do the math, it takes more than 6 private sector workers taxes to pay one government employees salary.

It’s time everyone realizes that government workers don’t contribute to the tax base. Their pay for their job is all tax revenue and any deductionos from that check and all the other taxes they pay just reduces tha amount of tax revenue they recieve.

Government spending does not stimulate the economy because it just returns the money to those they stole it from in the first place, you the private sector worker and business.

I have been self employed for for more than twenty years. At one time I had twenty-five employees. After my first “government” audit, I began to downsize because of the liability employees bring with them. I now refuse to hire anyone because the government policies toward small business. I can only assume from looking at the unemployment statistics that I am not alone in my actions.

    • Grace says:

Larry – I hear you too! We cannot get rid of our employees fast enough and are getting really good at using technology and other means to eliminate them once and for all! Hopefully get down to needing only a couple or three soon – but yeah, we had over 25 at one point also – what a tax and regulatory NIGHTMARE!

    • Grace says:

I consider the sheer amount of paperwork for each employee alone to be a form of harrassment – we get all of these forms that say stuff like, “reseaching and compiling this information should take 45 minutes” Yeah, right! Then, you have to hire people to deal with all the paperwork, because if you did it yourself there would be no time for your business! Then you need other people to check their work because god knows you don’t want any errors!!! Then you need your legal and accounting people to review it all and there go the big bucks for that! And it is all basically a lot of crap that justifiys some bureaucratic paper-pushers taxpayer funded job. Don’t get me started.

    • Bravo27 says:

taxing business men is destroying jobs. the more tax the less jobs. we need a simple flat 5% tax. business and personal. the government would be restrained from intrusion into our lives. they would have no reason or need for millions of tax men snooping in our lives. plus the overtaxation would disolve. but if they did that you and others would not be in terror of our government. the bigger the government the smaller the people. you like being dictated to than encourage the government.

  38. TeresaE says:

This is going to have two effects, well three, and three only.

    1. Close down millions more small businesses, which is the REAL goal, the “official” goals are utter bs.

    2. Eliminate millions more jobs. Enjoy!

    3. Turn over more of our country’s GDP to the mega-nationals, thus crashing our system completely.

The effects of constant bashing of success are coming home to roost.

I’ve moved beyond trying to figure out how our government could be so stupid. They aren’t stupid.

Once you remove everything that should be true, but isn’t, you arrive at the real truth.

The government is INTENTIONALLY AND WITH MALICE eliminating the middle class and gifting the spoils to their rich benefactors.

Result? Look to Argentina and open your eyes. It is coming.

With crap like this going on, sooner than anyone imagines.

  39. Ann says:

If the IRS would go after the people that do not file taxes, do not pay taxes and do not contribute they could ‘find’ a whole lot more money to collect rather then going after the legite small business owner. Legite small business owners pay more then their fair share of taxes – who do you think covers everyone elses behinds !!!
There are millions of people in the USA that don’t pay a penny in income tax but yet they draw millions in dollars from the government welfare system – fraudulently !!! Go after them before they run our country dry.

    • Bravo27 says:

I agree, Ann. How many people who voted Democrat in the last election understand the duplicity that exists in government? I know that tax-evasion is not a monopoly of the Democrat Party, but isn’t is interesting to compare just two cases to any one or more cases that occur in the private citizen world? In other words: why were Daschle and the Treasury Secretary not thrown in jail, much less being charged hefty fines for their fraudulent activity (well, inactivity, I guess)? A couple of true, forever slime balls go free while good citizen Joe, who made an honest mistake is haunted forever (if he wasn’t actually completely ruined by the IRS).

    • JC says:

How about accountability? What the hell are they doing with all this money?

  40. Kurier Radek says:

I’ve been a small business owner for over 25 years. In this time I have been fully audited twice and have come to realize the IRS as a corrupt, fear-mongering thugocracy seeking only to demonize ordinary citizens seeking happiness and prosperity. I’ve played by their “rules” (all 70,000 pages of the IRS code) and am steadfast in my integrity and good will. The IRS, in contrast, doesn’t care about anyone’s “good will” and is hell-bent in destroying your credibility at all costs if they think there’s a single dime in it for them. They don’t care about you or your business. They just care about how much they can squeeze out of American businesses and citizens. It’s all about the “R” (REVENUE) in “IRS”!!!

I am an ardent proponent of the Fair Tax plan. http://ncfairtax.org/

It is virtually impossible for anyone to keep up with the tax code or for anyone to be certain that they are in compliance. The income tax system is not only large, difficult and corrupt, worst of all, it is a drain on our economy. If all income taxes were eliminated, including Social Security and Medicare, and replaced with the FairTax, individuals would have more money to save, invest and spend. The cost of conducting business would go down which would allow businesses to invest back into the business so that they could grow and create new jobs.

Replacing the current income tax system with the FairTax would create an economic boom unlike anything we have ever seen before.

Some may say, “But what about all the IRS and tax preparer jobs that will be lost?” I say, “Who the hell cares!” The positive economic wave of prosperity resulting from implementing the Fair Tax would far outpace any “job losses” from the IRS and tax community. It just make common, logical sense and is fiscally responsible. Bureaucracies only serve to perpetuate themselves and are ALWAYS inefficient and lead to graft and corruption…Government control at its best!

The fruits of our labor should be OFF LIMITS to any government entity. The whole tax on income is a big govt. scam!!!

    • JC says:

A standing army of tax collectors was not what the framers had in mind.

    • Carl says:

The IRS must go. That would take thousands of people off the government payroll that we taxpayers fund and it would get the jackbooted thugs out of our business. It may be too late now to get rid of this unholy, thieving government Mafia called the IRS but I hope we can. There needs to be more support for changing the tax system so the IRS goes away. If the IRS stays as a government agency we have no hope. These thieves will take everything they can from businesses and even individuals – everyone and everything except for themselves, of course. Gov’t employees, including congress, are exempt from the rules ordinary citizens have to abide by.

I have been diagnosed with two pain conditions, had lyme, mrsa, osteomyletis, ankle fusion, foot fused to ankle, RCA stent, 8 lb ovarian tumor removed and YES we paid out over 6 grand in medical expenses just in 2007, now IRS wants us to pay them back our medical deductions of over 4 yrs ago. I SAY WHAT???????????

    • Carl says:

It has been proven over and over again that the IRS agents, many of them anyway, are nothing less than common theives desirous of taking everything they can from taxpayers to give to freeloaders and to fatten their own checks, of course. I guess there’s nothing like the power of the government to crush people.

  43. Carl says:

Here is a IRS provision that caused a Christian minister to be jailed because of IRS stubborness.
    2. Employment tax return non-filers. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration recently called on the IRS to step up enforcement against businesses that don’t file employment tax returns or pay employment taxes on time.

Kent Hovind had asked repeatedly of the IRS if the employees could be responsible for their own tax withholding and payments to the IRS. They never bothered to contact him with an answer but sent their thugs in to throw him in jail. They also threw his wife in jail. Today Kent is still in prison as far as I know, while Tom Daschle and Obama’s appointees still are free and working on government payouts despite not paying taxes.

“For years, hedge fund managers and others on Wall Street have had their earnings—in the case of some managers, earnings that top $1 billion a year—taxed as capital gains instead of as ordinary income. This loophole saved billions for mega-rich bankers while they drove our economy off a cliff and cost us millions of jobs and hundreds of billions of dollars.”

The working poor, middle class and small biz have been paying a higher ratio of their dwindling income in taxes than the tax capped wealthy few and big corporations, whom are off shore invested, out sourced jobs, while they are getting richer and making record profits, while we’ve been at war and are trying to recover from our gambled away economy.

This year the middle class, home energy improvemnts, 1st time home buyers & small biz have recieved fed tax cuts and tax credit incentives and we’re trying to reign in the profiteering tax evaders with smart regualtions that protect US investments w/exponential profits and upward mobility for all again: jobs w/living wages & benefits, worker, consumer, manufacturing, industry and environemental protection .

Here is some advice: If you don’t do it or haven’t done it, forget the comments on it. If you have done it or are still doing it, comment away. You non-informed ought be asking questions and learning, rather than making asses out of yourselves by commenting on something you obviously know nothing about.

  48. BonnieMW says:

I am going to answer to all the skeptics that don’t believe the IRS is attacking small businesses. I started being audited in April 2009 and my business is still being audited May 2010. I am a small-midsized 80 employee business. Every issue above is the truth. I with my brothers own several businesses and we work as self employed contractors because of the unusualness of our situation.

The IRS is trying to go back 5 years and make us amend our taxes and make our company pay our FICA taxes even though we have paid them personally. Our business has a large refund coming and they have no intention of giving us our refund back. Quote by IRS agent, “We have been told to do what ever it takes to not give you your refund” Another Quote by another agent, “I will make you owe so much taxes you will never get out of bankruptcy.” Another Quote, “It does not matter what her attorney says, I am above the courts.”

Since this audit has started I have been threatened and harassed my employees intimidated, my attorney lied to. This is one reason I immediately joined The Tea Party groups. I now know exactly how people will be treated when government becomes bigger than the people. I now have had to spend thousands on legal and accounting fees and finally they are backing down and have agreed we do not have to amend our taxes but from this point we have to be employees.

I was very accommodating to them at first. I let them come into my business and interview my employees and gave them a tour of our business and allowed them to set for days in my office and go over records. They then started intimidating my employees at that point I told them they could only meet in my accountants office.

This is exactly how the IRS treated businesses and individuals back in the 80′s. They audited my mother and came up that she owed over $163,000.00. I spend months in her accountants office going over records with the IRS agent and it came out she owed $9,000.00

The way they work is they throw out everything they can think of and make you prove your deductions. It is a very costly and expensive process for everyone. They are mostly incompetent and back down as soon as they have to go up against a good attorney or accountant.

    • Grace says:

The problem is – and this is why they target small businesses – most don’t have the kind of resources or knowledge or savvy needed to fight them, hence they are destroyed by them. That deal where they say that you owe like $1500.00 and it turns into $10,000.00 before you know what hit you is just so friggin evil.

Maybe not all but the one who came and locked the gates to my mother’s business was a pedophile. He was arrested only weeks after having his picture on the front page of the paper locking her gate for sexually abusing a child.

I believe this is the kind of personalities they hire, after my recent encounter with the IRS. Some are complete control freaks. They are not mentally balanced people from the comments they have made to me. I am sure they are not all like this but from my personal experience both in the 80′s and now they are trained to harass and intimidate. For 20 years they have backed off and seemed like a normal agency but they have came back in full force since Obama has taken office.

Also, this current administration has a major control over the media: tv, newspapers, etc. We must not be blinded by the hype; read, listen, do research — In order to survive, we must be strong and be active; not bury our heads in the sand or even worse, ask what our government can give us in hand outs, but rather what we can do to survive and take care of ourselves.

I get a laugh out of the ads from the “FBI Case of the Week” about somebody who the FBI raked over the coals for stealing thousands of dollars, or FINRA for protecting investors…PR for the gub’mint.
Who are they kidding? The biggest Ponzi criminal IS the gub’mint (SS, Medicare). JHC.

what reasoning!! all of us that are conservatives should leave the country?? how in the hell would you welfare recipients survive. most of you don’t work so no tax base, you refuse to protect the country so here comes the world to claim what we left. what a laugh!! then what would all you little comrades do?? let me guess, since your messiah has been in office he has the whole world loving us again, especially the muslim world and they will all rush to your aid with free health care and welfare and sharia law. don’t forget to buy a rug, you’ll need it.

  65. Keith H says:

If Obama’s creating jobs in the private sector, then how is he going to do it when they’re going after the small businesses where a lot of the jobs could be created,I think they’re creating a facade, to make themselves look good politicaly, because there has been more job loss than jobs created, and if you look at who’s getting those few jobs that they’re so call creating, you can see what’s going on here .
Obama said he would help the small businesses, but look at what they’re doing,I pay more attention to what they’re doing, not to what they’re saying. This whole money system is fraud, because the banks can lend you money that they don’t have themselves, if you don’t believe me try withdrawing $8,000 or more fron your account and see what they say.

  66. BonnieMW says:

Tim, just after I finished writing my comment. Who shows up at our front gate but 2 IRS agents looking for a general contractor that worked on our roof a couple of years ago. Of course they saw payments to him from the audit they did on us. They will not stop.
They threatened my bookkeeper that she may have to pay taxes on reimbursed expenses. She should not have to worry that when she
stops off and picks up office supplies and pays with her own money
that she can’t be reimbursed with out the threat she might have to pay taxes on it. They said it in a very intimidating way. She had a Harry and Davids basket on her desk and the IRS person flung herself at it and asked where it came from. She then let her know she might have to pay taxes on it if it was over $25.00 value. She let them know it was from a business associate for the entire office and the IRS person just huffed and walked off. Our filing clerk overseeing the audit when I was out said, “she is a witch on a witch hunt.”

The common people who do not own businesses or have not been audited have no idea how these people act.

By the way Tim. I get sick and tired of people like you accusing people of listening to talk show hosts as why they are tired of how our government is doing things. That is exactly what our Congressman Peter Defazio wrote me because I wrote him a letter saying I didn’t support the Health Care Bill. I don’t listen to any of those talk show hosts but I just might start because from the feedback I have heard they seem to be right on.

    • JeffH says:

BonnieMW, I can feel your frustrations with the IRS through your comments and am sorry you have to “put” up with it. As for Tim, your words mean nothing to him and the rest of the liberal ilk that parrot this site with their vial remarks. Although it might feel good to respond, their goal isn’t to convert or exchange, it is to ridicule and name call and upset the tone of Personal Liberty Digest.
Because of people like yourself, we will defeat these anti-American liberals in November and again in 2012. The process of taking back “our” country will be a long one and we mustn’t give up. I can tell by your comments that you aren’t going down without a good ole American fight. Stand strong with the rest of us and we can defeat these traitors.

      • Bob Wire says:

        >> anti-American Liberals?<< that's where you lose me Jeff.

I don't know what that is exactly. ~

and yes, i hate to hear about your IRS agent experience.

I have a cousin that is an IRS agent, ~she's a solid GOP vote, whole family is GOP, father retire military, son is oil field support(aircraft) and the other daughter works for an insurance provider denying claims.

All pretty much on the Federal dole in one form or fashion. And that the way it is, This mind set, this validation of what's considered "Righteous" and "Worthy" running in families. I find them most annoying family.

      • JeffH says:

Perhaps a long look in the mirror would clarify that?

      • Bob Wire says:

Jeff you very mind is a mirror, reflects what it sees. ~ And what you “see” is your vision, not someone else vision. ~ I can’t explain all that “you see” ~ so it’s you to you to do.

  67. John W. LaCava says:

As an independent voter, I have noted that a democrat when confronted with the facts either changes the subject or engages in name calling.
James Madison said that a democratic republic could not survive unless populated by virtuous people and leaders. Alexander Hamilton said that his greatest fear was the rise of “factions” (special interest groups) he felt that they would tear us apart. Perhaps now you can understand what our real problems are. Thus far, we have witnessed an administration and congress without virtue and a President who encourages the “factions” at the expense of Americans. The head of Interpol was correct in a recent interview in which he stated that he was now convinced that there was more evil in the world than good. The Looters and Moochers are among us.By the way Hamilton advocated a standing army. you can read about it in the Federalist papers.

    • Sam says:

who was it that advised against a two party system of government. built in waste and debauchery?

    • American Citizen says:

A standing army is necessary to defend us against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. That’s the main responsibility of the Federal Government, not that of being a big sugar daddy.

    • Bob Wire says:

      >>I have noted that a democrat when confronted with the facts either changes the subject or engages in name calling.<<

Oh Really! ~ Try me, but first you must make a statement worthy consideration and debate.

  68. Claire says:

My husband and I were audited way back in 1960–our home was destroyed by a tornado and we reported this when we did our taxes for 1960–needless to say we were investigated. Everything came out o.k. though.
The IRS has investigated numerous people for numerous years. It just didn’t start.
As far as small businesses are concerned, I will have to wait and see what happens. I know a number of people that have small businesses, and they aren’t having any trouble yet. And I will certainly believe my friends that own these businesses before I will believe any media hype and their twisted “truth.”

    • American Citizen says:

Ask any CPA what hoops businesses are put through. Our son has had to defend several after tax season is over.

  69. Will Robin says:

Let’s see, after 8 years, the foxes are no longer in charge of the hen house and the IRS is going to resume doing their job. This is bad?

Why are so many small businesses tax cheats? Because they can be! Large corporations and the rich have to buy politicians with campaign contributions (Supreme Court sanctioned bribery) to pass “legal” tax breaks. The majority of hard-working, honest Americans get most of their income from salaries and wages – which are subject to witholding up-front.

As one of the latter who has never cheated on taxes in 50 years (the far right would label me “sucker”), I resent the un-patriotic crooks who do. Go for it IRS!!

    • American Citizen says:

What’s wrong with taking every deduction and tax break the code allows?

      • Will Robin says:

“Every deduction and tax break the code allows” is not cheating – or illegal (that’s what I do). This includes the “Fat Cat” Bush tax breaks that tax my capital gains and dividends at rates far below what “working stiffs” have to pay.

The actions the IRS is auditing are both cheating and illegal!

      • American Citizen says:

A CPA could tell you that the IRS is fond of auditing any business that takes more deductions than the IRS thinks it should. The tax code is so complex, you can call an IRS office and get different answers to the same question. It doesn’t have to be cheating or fraud. Most are found to be legitimate after the tax preparer goes with the client and explains why the deduction was made.

      • Bob Wire says:

Hmm? My present CPA explained it this way, If you claim certain things, flags goes up and you file may very well be subjected to an audit. So you are at liberty to deduct what you think applicable but be aware you might be subjected to showing and proving it.

In some ways, it much like general liability Insurance. You must have it, ~ but if you ever use it, you might pay the devil. From increases in rate to actually dropping your coverage very real possibilities.

So these deductions need to be worth the risk of bring down the thunder. If they are not, don’t go there, regardless.

It suck I know, but we are working with a big system that like all the blanks filled out correctly.

  70. American Citizen says:

Maybe it’s time every wage earner has to pay his/her own income taxes just as we have to pay all the other taxes ourselves. Think that would open their eyes?

    • Will Robin says:

That would allow all the “working stiffs” to cheat just like small businesses! I have a 38 year career as an engineer in manufacturing. I can tell you the “paycheck to paycheck” hourly workers are VERY aware of how much is withheld from their paycheck for taxes every week.

      • American Citizen says:

It would relieve businesses of the expense of having to withhold and keep track of what each employee owes and sending it in. It’s a huge expense and not fair for the businesses. They could afford to pay their workers more, also. In addition to keeping track of the Federal taxes, they also, if selling a product, have to keep track of and send the sales taxes they collect to the state government. It was one reason our daughter and her husband closed their grocery store. They couldn’t do the taxes themselves but had to hire a tax preparer, or CPA, to figure them all out as most small businesses have to do.

      • American Citizen says:

They may or may not know what is being withheld. A lot of people only pay attention to the “take home part”. To see the total of the taxes due at one time would be an eye opener.

  71. American Citizen says:

Maybe you deduced and maybe you didn’t, that our son is a CPA.

Do you think Omoron will go after any dem crimminal Congress person, I’ll sell you some oil on the moon, as soon as the banks open! NO different, esp those drug cartels from Mex must have US “offices” for US drug sales etc

This is a Obama Regime tactic

  76. CharlyDontSurf says:

After reading some of the posts here, it seems that liberals must think that all small business owners live lives of luxury and opulence and hardly ever work and just hang out at the country club all day playing golf and tennis.

    I’ve been a small business owner/partner for 20 years.

I know what it’s like to put in 12 to 16 hour days 6 sometimes even 7 days a week.

I know what it’s like to have to make sacrifices, take risks and put in all the hard work and effort that running a successful small business requires.

I am so sick of the entitlement mentality and the people it spawns who think that just because of their mere existence that they are automatically entitled to other peoples wealth, without ever having to do anything to actually EARN it.

I, and I think I speak for many others, am sick and tired of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes whose only contribution to society is creating the next generation of professional couch potatoes.

The world doesn’t owe you a thing.

If you want the good things in life, you have to get of your butt and go out there and get it!

Most rich and wealthy people went to college, studied hard, got good grades and worked their butts off to get where they are today.

Where do people get off thinking that “the rich” owe them any favors?

    • Laura Schlegel says:

I understand your frustration. The whole country is frustrated. I too am a small biz owner. I have 2 degress, worked in corporate, taught, and traveled around the world; been thru good times and bad. So have my folks and grandparents, ect. We have copious amounts of historical and global studies done to learn what works or what doesn’t in different economies and societies. We know when there’s conditions for upward mobility for all, it’s a healthier economy and society. And, we know what conditions contribute to unhealthy economies/societies.

For ex: When too many of our jobs, manufacturing and industry are outsourced, even hard working, educated people can’t find work and less people have money to provide for themselves, consume goods or pay taxes. Then if the profits from this outsourcing are tax capped, loop holed and/or off shored invested, it’s a double whammy and there’s not enough work or collective tax dollars to maintain the infrastructure, that gives rise to upward mobility for all, and civil unrest rises.

This is why when too many people can’t find work or make a living wage, we have to be realistic at what circumstances are contributing to this and what solutions will bring US back to the exponential profits of upward mobility for all.

We all do better, when everyone has a chance to do better:)

Have a nice holiday weekend to all!

      • Bob Wire says:

The most straight up “matter of fact post” in the whole thread Laura. Thank you

And It’s true, a house of cards, on a global scale, supple is there, demand is there but the means to buy has been lost here in the US. This was the case for many of us long ago, some of you, more recent. I’ve became somewhat use to it by now, lowering my expectation drastically after being angry for several years. But you can’t stay angry forever and keep good health.

The last 6 months should be a warning to all. American is slowly running out of consumers! For years many of you have behaved like you might be immune, like you might have smeared some lamps blood over you doorstep thinking the ill fortune that beset others might be the results of their own doing and the evil would surly pass you by.

Well, Hello in there, I see you!

So what you going to do about it? The majority mandated change. But the minority hasn’t like the change, so they have formed a “like minded group” and started calling themselves the majority (a majority of the minority) and offering resistance to “AnY” change. Yet they advocate changes in Washington, They advocate lower taxes, yet admit their taxes are borderline acceptable. The list of conflicting demands is long.

Like I said, I’m well past being just angry about this. By an large, it’s this same “Inclusive Majority” that are the very people that supported 22 out of the more recent 30 years of Executive Administrations. While it was 34 years ago that Jimmy Carter told Americans our dependence on foreign oil needed to be curtail and addressed, effecting the very security of the Nation. This crowd didn’t listen to him, in fact they thought him a joke,a peanut farmer. They say, they are willing to listen to a carpenter’s son but they won’t listen to a peanut farmer.

I have follow these threads for many weeks now and have came to one conclusion. There is some really fine people here that are truly sincere with good idea and noble intentions while almost one quarter intentions are much less the noble, wasting air something else could be breathing and the lowest common denominator of mankind.

Rid yourself of this scourge before you endeavor to clean up government. Otherwise, you mop with a sour mop and only make a mess. They are only baggage and will limit your hard efforts. There is too many and I can’t do it for you, it’s not my party.

I grow weary of words spoken so loosely and freely from braggarts and fools.

  77. James O says:

The fact is the IRS should audit more and assure the laws are being followed. Many small business owners, through omission or commission take advanage of the system, and I see nothing wrong with the IRS stepping up enforcement. They ought to be doing this with small contractors…who routinely get paid in cash(or want to) and do not pay taxes on their incomes.

  78. Robert says:

“The revenue laws are a code or system in regulation of tax assessment and collection. They relate to taxpayers, and not to nontaxpayers. The latter are without their scope. No procedure is prescribed for nontaxpayers, and no attempt is made to annul any of their rights and remedies in due course of law. With them Congress does not assume to deal, and they are neither of the subject nor of the object of the revenue laws.” United States Court of Claims, Economy Plumbing and Heating v. United States, 470 F.2d 585, at 589 (1972)

  79. Jer says:

The problem is at the top. IRS does the job they are told to do. Small business is already over taxed. Open up a small business if you don’t think so!! The tax code is the real problem. We need a flat tax. No earmarks, no bribes, no special deals for the special people, just a plain simple flat tax. Maybe a few of you think that way also. Best to find solutions, and help to make changes?

  80. C J Madden says:

It has taken years to rid the Nation of the bully tactics used by the IRS, and with one sweep of a pen, Obama destroyed this and the IRS is now again taking up bully-tactics that I would call UNAmerican at the very least. Giving one agency super-powers in law enforcement is disastrous and contributes nothing to the Nation as a whole. What it does do is to bring this great Nation of ours closer to the Obama dream of a socialistic/communistic country much like China. Capitalism is not the sin, but individual greed is–the responsibility belongs to those who became to greedy in their lust for wealth. I once supported H Clinton, but after hearing her state that the “rich” don’t pay their fair share in taxes (without defining rich)indicates that she also is a grand supporter of communism (socialism). The thing about these two ideologies is that those in charge are the only ones who are allowed to benefit from the enslavement of its people.

    • 45caliber says:

Socialism is an oligarchy – not a democracy. An oligarchy is “rule by a small group”. So is Communism. A small group of people at government levels runs everything.

The real problem is that even in a dictatorship, a certain amount of money gets to the individuals – if for no other reason than a dictator can’t personally collect all of it. But a socialism does – and it has the people willing to collect it. To me, this is the most dangerous type of government.

In Russia, the small group insisted that the state owned everything – and the people were the state. But the state would “loan” all the nice things such as paintings, jewelry, etc. to the individuals at the top – and they could sell those things if they wished. They were also so “valuable” to the state that they got far more money for their time than anyone else did – like thousands of times more money – and they didn’t have to pay taxes on it like everyone else did.

      Expect the same thing here.

    • Bob Wire says:

That why I don’t like to use the word “rich”.

You can “touch” a lot of money and never be anything close to rich!

  81. charles killebrew says:

Obama is abysmal. And Congress is worse! Expanding the IRS is insane. What we need is VAT, and do away with the IRS completely. But our government is so stupid that will never happen. Some of the bills now being discussed will have anyone who gets a W-2 form, and works for an employer who pays their health insurance, will soon have to pay taxes on that amount of money that has been deductible.
Home owners will soon have to buy an annually renewal license for their house, which will have to be inspected by federal inspectors before they can obtain that license. Plus, they will not be able to sell their without using a realtor unless they have a realtor license; and if the house doesn’t pass inspection it will have to be brought up to specification in order to sell. Talk about government infringement on personal liberties and rights!
When the nuclear age came into being I was worried that one bomb in D.C. would destroy our nation; now it would be the best thing that could ever happen!

  82. Bob Wire says:

You enjoyed it when Ronnie was running things! The very same thing occurred
    .

Everyone want to blame someone else for their misery.

The one in charge ! blame him ! ~ Just pay your taxes

  83. raven says:

Face the music folks the country is doomed unless men with the stones like our founders stand up and take it back, at this point in time the slow thuggish onslaught of government has been imposed upon us until we would not recognize freedom if it slapped us in the face. They have done this to us at the point of a gun with the most hideous sort of fear tactics yet we comply as if it was force justified and legal. It is not justified nor legal, all of it flies in the face of our constitutional founding. I fear the only means by which it can be regained is by the same means it was acquired.

  84. Laura Schlegel says:

The “We the People”(democracy) government is only as good as our collective involvement;otherwise the rich & powerful profiteering corporatists (oligarchy) takes over. See banksters, healthcare insurance/pharma, factory farms, airbushing our textbooks. media, to keeping US dependant on dirty dangerous fuels to the oil spill.
It’s up to “We the People” to make the difference and undo the insideous corporate tentacles that has US eatting our tails.

  85. 45caliber says:

One reason the IRS wants to target small businesses is that the businesses tend to hire illegals. The illegals don’t pay income taxes if they can prevent it and prefer to be paid in cash as they won’t have a trail to their income. If the IRS can insist that the illegal aliens listed as private contractors (and many are) are the responsibility of the company to pay the income taxes, they can collect from the business and the illegal walks free. After all, it is easier to find the business than it is to find and collect from the illegal alien.

  86. BrassRing says:

The answer is simple. Just as the Prohibition Amendment was repealed, we need to repeal the 16th Amendment, adopted in 1913, less than 100 years ago. The 16th Amendment created the income tax. Why an Amendment? Because the original Constitution prohibited this kind of tax, which was confirmed by the Supreme Court just prior to the 16th Amendment. Repeal the Amendment and you eliminate the IRS and the confusing and oppressive 16,700 page income tax code.
How do we finance the Federal Government? With a Federal sales tax, applied to all purchases of new products and services. Pay the tax on purchase and forget it – no more tax filings, no more audits.
Such a proposal is before Congress right now. It is House Bill HR25 and Senate Bill SB296, and is called the FairTax. Call your Congresspersons to support it. Ask all candidates for Congress if they support it. It will solve this nation’s economic dilemma.
How much will this sales tax be? It has been calculated to be 23%, but no one will pay this much, because the proposed bills provide for a “prebate” to all persons based on poverty level. This means that a check will be sent to everyone at the beginning of each and every month. Let’s say poverty is $2,000 per month. The check sent to everyone would be $460. So the person at poverty level pays no taxes (his was prepaid to him at the beginning of the month). Someone at double poverty level ($4,000/mo) has and effective tax rate of 11.5%, because he had half of his taxes paid to him at the beginning of the month. Someone at 4 times poverty ($8,000) would have an effrective tax rate of 17.25% (do the math). Even someone purchasing $1,000,000 per month would have a tax rate of only 22.954%, not even the full 23%. Only illegal aliens and tourists (who would not receive the prebate checks) would pay the full 23%, contributing to the tax burden of the nation.
And, don’t forget, you get your full paycheck without withholdings for taxes or social security or Medicare, a savings to you of 7.65% and to your employer of 8.55%, totalling 16.2% that he could pay directly to you – plus your income tax withholdings (which at only 10% would give you a total of 26.2%, more than the possible increase in prices of 23%). Plus, it’s been shown that there are about 22% of hidden “income taxes” in products, which will allow for price reductions when they are removed.
There’s lots more advantages to the proposed bills – - see the publication “America’s Best Kept Secret – FairTax” by Al Ose and access the website FairTax.org. You will become an advocate. Help spread the word – get the bill out of Congressman Charlie Rangell’s tax committee and onto the Congessional floor for debate. Repeal the unjust and unconstitutional income tax and replace it with a simple and fair tax.
Giving employees there full wages with no withholdings will restore their feeling of wealth stolen by the loss of home equity and retirement plan losses. Let’s turn this country around!!!!!!!

  87. Marilyn says:

The federal government is going to bleed every person dry! Small restaurant businesses had better hide the loaves of bread before the IRS comes marching through the doors or they will take that, too. A bill just went through Senate to increase taxes on small businesses. That is not their topic but taxation is hidden in part of the bill. I wrote my Senator and all I received was the flowery words of a politician who has been in Washington far too long. He’s gone come November 2nd!! I’m throwing out the trash!!!!!
