Multi-vitamins Improve Mood And Mental Performance Of Healthy Men

While the importance of taking nutrient supplements is well-known for the elderly, very few studies have investigated the link between vitamin intake and cognitive function among healthy adults under the age of 55.
To explore the relationship a research team from Northumbria University recruited 215 healthy men between the ages of 30 and 55 who were all employed full-time and had them blindly receive either a proprietary multi-vitamin or a placebo for a period of one month.
The investigators tested each participant both before and after the study with a variety of mood, stress and health questionnaires. They also analyzed their mental capabilities by having them undergo simple arithmetic examinations.
At the point of follow-up, the participants who took daily multi-vitamins reported considerable improvements in mood, stress levels and cognitive function. The control group participants experienced no significant benefit.
"The assumption was made here that the men tested enjoyed typical nutritional status," said lead author David Kennedy.
"However, the very fact of being able to improve mood, ratings of mental health and vigour and aspects of task performance by simple supplementation with B vitamins, vitamin C and minerals indicates that the cohort must have been suffering from less than optimal micronutrient status at the outset."

Be sure to use natural vitamins when possible over the man made. Many of the man made vitamins do not absorb into the body in a timely fashion and end up going down the toilet in about the same form as they went into your body.
I fully agree with the research done at Northumbria Univ on the effect of Vitamins and mineral supplements. I have been taking a comprehensive set of them every day for decades, on top of a very good diet. However, I have quit taking them for certain periods of time, and noticed I felt ‘duller and flatter’ metally and emotionally. And the effect was injust a few days. And when I have insomnia, taking ‘Stress’ vit and mins (B&C etc), the benificial effect is even more noticable.
Would appreciate your recommendation of a brand name multi-vitamin.
There IS a HUGE difference and two of my long-time favorites that actually worked are no longer on the market. Thank you.
I am 50.I have taken individual vitamins & minerals most of my life.If one takes a multiple vitamin make sure to pulverize it to a powder to guarentee better absorption, most are a hard tablet. Also take Co Q10 KANEKA type from japan,i take JARROW brand. And take amino acids,L-carnitine and L-arginine,and guys your wife will be happier. And very important, take COD-LIVER-OIL,i take NORDIC NATURALS.GOOD-HEALTH gents Kevin Kelly in COLORADO
I take SuperNutrition vitamins. They are the most potent on the market and they are made with organic alfalfa. Everyone I have told about them says the same thing, “I never really felt vitamins until I took these.” And for athletes they make the vitamins the Olympic weight-lifting team takes.
I never believed in multi vitamins. Recently, however, I was having an anxiety attack (Due to stresses of life) and my wife made me take the Dr. Max Powers Men’s Multivitamin. Within an hour it had calmed down my brain.
The first day I took it I started to feel much better: thinking clearer, breathing deeper (didn’t expect that to happen)feeling just plain better. I must’ve been very defeicent (spelled wrong?) in vitamins!
I had no trouble swallowing them though they are big pills. (sip some water, hold in mouth, add pill to mouth and swallow! Works better than dry swallowing.)
I love the digestive enzyme effect because it really works.
Oh, and I’m only taking one a day.
