Attorney General Eric Holder's Deputy Testifies In Voter Intimidation Inquiry

Attorney General Eric Holder's deputy testifies in voter intimidation inquiry As the Obama administration tries to stave off criticism over its dismissal of the investigation into the alleged New Black Panther Party voter intimidation case last year, a top Justice Department official testified on May 14 in front of the United States Civil Rights Commission.

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Thomas Perez spent 90 minutes defending the department’s actions, saying there were no alternative motivations behind the decision to drop the case by then-Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Loretta King, according to Main Justice.

"This is a case about career people disagreeing with career people," he was quoted as saying by the news provider, seemingly implying that the dispute was primarily between lawyers.

However, Perez entered into a heated exchange with Commissioner Gail Heriot who pressed him to answer why a more expansive injunction was not sought against a member of the Black Panther party who had carried a nightstick, the news source further reported.

The ongoing inquiry stems from an incident on Election Day 2008 at a Philadelphia polling station where members of the New Black Panther Party allegedly tried to intimidate voters by standing in military-style garb outside.

Late last year, the Department of Justice (DOJ) dismissed most of the case, causing anger among many conservatives.

    The man pictured in the media repeatedly with a firearm slung over his shoulder was a not breaking the law in any way shape or form. And as much as I dispise hyphenating Americans he was a Aphro-American/Black man.. But the media zoomed in on his picture to just show the torso and weapon to promote their stereo-type of tea partiers and their leftist adgenda.

    Also if you truely had a clue about American history you would not through around the term ‘redneck’ as its true and original meaning and use was to describe union workers who marched for better working conditions and pay in 1914 in West Virginia while wearing red bandanas around their necks as a show of solidarity… And I am sure you love Unions so now you have been informed.

    The Holder AG Office DID NOT STOP the investigation. The New Black Panthers had already been tried and CONVICTED under the BUSH Administration. All that was left for the Obama Justice Department was to attend the sentencing, which was going to include a permanent injunction against ALL of the New Black Panther Party Members so that there would not be a repeat of the Philadelphia Voter Intimidation Scandal that started the entire affair. For the Obama Administration to lie about what exactly happened in the Black Panther Case is such a sleazy thing to do. (and I’m surprised?) They had the conviction dismissed rather than show up for sentencing. Supposedly it was the decision of a third grade career Deputy AG.

    Our government has gotten so corrupt that it is impossible to tell who really are the ‘good guys’. However some are blatantly obvious; the whole matter is complicated by the double standards that give ‘free passes’ to this administration.

Did he not break laws on both the constitutional and federal levels when he coerced, threatened, blackmailed and bribed senate voters to get his health care bill passed?       Chaos I think if I squeeze my eyes shut really really hard I can ALMOST see that you are trying to draw some kind of parallel between black dudes brandishing night sticks at a polling place where people are going to either vote for or against a black candidate for president and others displaying their constitutional right to bear arms peacefully.

      Here let me break it down for you, hopefully you can keep up. See those dudes at the polling place, they were demonstrating intimidation (in-tim-ah-dae-shun) tactics in a place where people have the right to come in and be their own political voice by casting their vote without judgement (or a large dude in military garb standing there with his big black nightstick). Oh yeah and weren’t they also blocking the door to get in? The people at the rally’s (which you do know now that the one guy that had the AR strapped to his belt was a black dude right? I LOVE that) were there peacefully demonstrating their right to bear arms, not tapping their weapons in their hand (or I suppose in this case more like holding someone at gunpoint in attempt to threaten others into doing what they want.

      Lastly even if you had drawn an accurate parallel, mama ever tell ya two wrongs don’t make a right? You may have gained a sliver of some independent thought had you just admitted, yeah, it was wrong…they shouldn’t have done it. I mean the cop that hauled the nightstick brandisher’s ass out of there obviously felt there was something wrong with what he was doing. But who knows…maybe he was a white cop right?

    If government won’t enforce the laws and protect the rights of its citizens it becomes incumbent upon the citizens themselves to do so, irrespective of the government…. Notice how, in Arizona, where the government is attempting to enforce the laws and protect the rights of its citizens, the Kenyan fascist and its minions are (again) working against the interests of citizens while refusing to enforce the laws which should protect them…draw your own conclusions…Perhaps a “drive by” at that Philadelphia polling place was the more logical solution to this problem.

        Totally agree … he would not even be an understudy for presidential play acting. The problem is that he has so intimidated or bought out dems that impreachment would not be effective UNTIL the role over of congresssional balance.     This administration has clearly illustrated that it has no intention of seriously restricting anyone who is “on their side.” The Black Panther incident is not the only case of intimidating by a long shot. There were reports of similar incidents in many polling stations, though certainly not a majority.
