Starbucks Policy Comes Under Increasing Fire From Gun Rights Opponents

May 7, 2010 by

Starbucks policy comes under increasing fire from gun rights opponents In the ongoing dispute over Starbucks’ gun policy, gun rights opponents blasted the company’s CEO for what they consider to be "untrue" statements regarding what type of weapons can be brought into the coffee chain’s stores.

According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Howard Schultz told shareholders at the company’s annual meeting that only unloaded guns could be brought into Starbucks stores, and that the company follows state laws.

However, the organization countered those claims by saying that only two of the states that permit "open carry" of firearms require the guns to be unloaded, while all other states that allow "open carry" allow loaded guns to be carried.

The campaign also launched an online petition asking Americans to urge the coffee chain to bar guns from its stores, and claims that it has so far gathered 34,000 signatures.

However, Starbucks’ official gun policy remains unchanged. The company website says that "we comply with local laws and statutes in all the communities we serve [and] abide by the laws that permit open carry in 43 U.S. states."

It goes on to state that "the political, policy and legal debates around these issues belong in the legislatures and courts, not in our stores."ADNFCR-1961-ID-19759965-ADNFCR

Growing up in the midwest guns were always a part of my life. All the above posts seem ok but what I got out of Starbucks post was they were just following the law.I never had the urge to pack a gun to get a cup of coffee or to do so would be like saying “Me the Man look at the gun I have”.Seems a little silly. When in town we left our guns out in the trunk locked up.Starbucks coffee may be great but I’m kinda cheap and would’nt pay $5 for a $1 cup of coffee. Save my money for ammo. Also I would support a ban on lead shot in federal wildlife managenent area which is self explanatory.

  • rwnut

eddie47d…do you think the law was created for the “good people”? It was created for the “bad people”. eddie, think,…Wyatt Earp v.Billy the Kid. That’s the problem eddie47d,you and Brady always trying to lump the law abiding in with the criminal.I’m still packen and sippin my Starbucks.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      rwnut,
I’m not legal yet, but I hope to be soon!!! I will carry as soon as I can get my CCW!!!

      • JeffH

        …with the new 9?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JeffH,
        Of course!

      • JeffH

Oh yeah! Now I’m jealous again. lol

      • JC

Joe, I like the Kimber short barrel 1911 .45. Light, thin and throws a small bus.

      • JeffH

…like the Pro CarryII? I personally considered purchasing the Raptor, but it was cost prohibitive for me. I settled on a very nice “used” Sig P226 9mm for a very good price.

      • JC

The Pro Carryll, exactly. They’re not much good beyond 30ft. But it’s for “self-defense” so it doesn’t need to be.
The Kimber Target11 on the other hand is good for a bit of distance.
I can usually put 6 out of 7 into a 6″ pie plate at 70ft. or so.
        I like my Kimber’s ;)

      • JeffH

There may be a Kimber for me in the future. The Kimber Custom II is more in my price range. I can buy a new one for under $730 on GunBroker.

      • JC

Thing I found about Kimber’s is keep the ramp clean…real clean.
JHP’s and B/E ammunition tend to hang up. Ball ammunition on the other hand is very reliable.
Good Luck, hope you get one.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JC,
I’ve put about 50 rounds through this new one and so far, I like it very much. SCCY Industries CPX made in Datona Beach Fla. came with a Child proof lock that I won’t use as I have a secure place for it, two clips and a hearty hope you like it from the dealer. 350.00 out the door. Im fairly accurate with it, (gotta be me!) so far, and It’s easy to get used to. The owner of the range I go to says he’ll help me on my classes to get my CCW.

      • JeffH

Black or two tone? Nice looking gun and a perfect CCW pistol. They aren’t legal in California, darn!

      • JC

Have fun with that. And just for fun, try using your middle finger as your trigget finger. This leaves the index finger free to point at the target. Just like pointing at anything you’ll find you can be really accurate without actually aiming. It’s called IPS or Instinctive Point and Shoot. In a self defense situation you may not get time to actually take aim.

  • http://gmail i41

Eddee, another dem night mare, this is still a free egresss and ingress country, the nut job anti-gun groups is the morons that have a problem, sounds just like illegals, claiming they have USA rights, wrong, they are crimminals, plain and simple. More of the feel good liberal BS, pumped up the citizens ears. If gun laws you marxist moroons dream up, why aren’t they in forced in NY and LA or Chicago, if they aree so good. When the gang bangers and hoods get caught, put them in chain, cleaning road ditches along the interstates for at least 16 hrs a day, any ACLU or phyco babbling profeesor shows up throw them in the chain gang to. Simple minded cradle to grave, feel good s–t over the years has given us a bunch of girly boys and more welfare rats. Second screw up, now put them breaking rocks manually out west of the Missiouri River, to keep costs down, put the scrouts in tents and eat fresh road kill, roads stay clean and states save big time. Everyone packs heat and usually has a mean assed dog besides, out there. A good long hike for 20 miles with just cows rattle sanes and if loney they might find a skunk for a buddy. Give the problem a KISS, keep it simple stupid! Too deep thinking for socialist democrats. I think all dems and schools should have to watch Time Life History on the Nazis, but the muslim and his simpleton thugs would bury it bedore it could be shown.

  • eddie47d

Jeff H. or Mr Spin Dr.: Then don’t carry your magnum into Starbucks and get the Brady Campaign all riled up. Don’t create problems that never existed. What are you really pushing for? Even the Wild West had gun laws to stop “good people” from shooting each other up. Take Dodge City as an example; Had to check guns at the door or at the sheriffs office. Nobody took away their rights to own a gun just a law to keep things civilized, such as in bars.

    • JeffH

Oh eddie.. go tell your stories to someone that’s stupid and might buy into your fanatsies.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JeffH,
Just tell edduh47 to tell his Brady bunch to stay out of Starbucks if they don’t like the atmosphere!!!

      • JeffH

Joe H. he probably to cheap and has never been in one anyway.

    • Duh??

      eddie47dunce
Your ignorance is showing. Starbucks didn’t even start this crap. It was the Brady Bunch that started the entire issue. But then as always, you and your liberal progressive ilk aren’t interested in the facts.

    • DaveH

Jeff would do that, Eddie, if he could easily conceal carry in California. Then it wouldn’t offend anybody’s sensibilities.
But he can’t unless he wants to jump through multiple hoops which, depending on his local authorities, may be futile anyway.
I would feel a lot safer myself if I knew more people were carrying concealed as only the most rabid criminals would attack knowing that many of the citizens were possibly armed.
Just ask Nidal’s victims which they would prefer. Oh, wait, you can’t ask them, because they are dead!

    • Claire

eddie–Jeff H and JoeH are not going to go to Starbucks or anywhere else with the idea/plan of shooting anyone or shooting up public places! Give it a rest.
I believe in conceal and carry. And I sure don’t plan on shooting up public places or people.
With the robberies here and the purse snatchings, I carry mace. In Illinois we can carry a gun in our glove compartment of our cars, but it cannot be loaded. Therefore, I keep my mace. By the time I reach for the gun, load it, it takes too much time. And time can be of the essence. The Illinois law is almost futile.

    • JeffH

Claire and DaveH, why is it that your perceptions are so much more accurate than eddied47? I guess if one is only looking for a negative one can only see the darkness in the sun…blind…

  • Claire

Geez–I have never been to Stabucks. I like my own coffee.

    • JeffH

Claire, pretty decent coffee and they usually employ good, courteous efficient people. They’re like a well oiled machine. I might hit their drive through once or twice a month for a Venti Mocha.

      • Claire

JeffH– If I happen to be near a Starbucks I’ll give it a go. It is just that I like my own coffee-and if I eat in a restaurant or someplace I never order coffee. It is always too bitter and strong.

      • JeffH

It’s always more a matter of convienience than anything else. I ususlly brew my own every morning for my bro and I.

Starbucks has blossomed into a giant corporation, which irks some people. I believe their founder came from the San Francisco bay area and was originally involved with Peet’s Coffee in Oakland.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        JeffH,
You just reminded me, and I applolgize but, how is it with your brother? Tell him all the best from me!

      • JeffH

He’s doing fine. He’s out playing gold with his church buddies today.
        Thanks for asking.

      • DaveH

        Jeff,
I wish I had a brother like you. Mine is much more like Obama.

      • JeffH

DaveH, thanks…I have tremendous respect for my brother, always have. He’s a year younger than I am. I don’t think we’ve had a cross word with each other since our teens. When I was down and went through my health situation in early 2008, he offered me a place to live. It’s worked out well for both of us because I’m able to help him ease his financial burden just a bit. I’m sure he could qualify for some assistanc, but he won’t because he has too much pride. We do pretty well and stay out of each others way. Oh, he’s more conservative than I am but he doesn’t own any guns. That’s always been my department, like a hobby almost.

      • rwnut

Claire…try one of them Rockt Marciano’s with a little caramel floaten on top. As Hussien Yo Mamma would say, “UMMM-UMMM-UMMM”.I highly recommend it!

      • Claire

rwnut— Okay. I will try it! I will try yours and JeffH’s.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Claire,
What do you do on the road for breakfast?? I GOTTA have my coffee first thing in the morning. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, but I do have the vice of coffee in the morn!!! Did I mention that since I quit drinkin and smokin, I cut out a lot of paper people??? Just kidding!!!

      • Claire

JoeH– When I am traveling to a dog show, I have a big thermos that I fill up with my own coffee. When that is gone, I drink chocolate milk until I get home. Since I can only go for one day instead of an entire weekend, it isn’t too bad. My son usually stays with my husband until I get back home. Then the minute I get home, I have to have my coffee.
And yes, first thing in the morning after I get the dogs out, I make my coffee, bring the dogs in, feed them, and drink to my heart’s content.

      • rwnut

JoeH,JeffH,DaveH…Hey,wait a minute,I think I’m having a right wing conspiracy! Do I detect a family here? Perhaps a whole rightwing family bent on self preservation, concealed carry, and protecting their fellow man? Could it be? Wouldn’t that be great? OOOOOOHHHHHHH my head hurts!

  • rjg

I’m not an opponent of guns nor do I own any however….
Is that what it has come to down there? Danger lurking at ever corner. You don’t feel safe unless you are carrying a weapon? What a way to live.

    • JeffH

leave it to a liberal try to blow everything out of proportion and put their own spin on the issue…

    • rwnut

rjg…I could give you a bookfull of FACTS about danger on every corner but it would do no good. It’s out there and you know it.
Somewhere in the back of my conspiracy laden mind a little voice tells me you are a protected species.I’m glad for you that you’re happy not carrying a gun.I’m glad you live in your safe little corner of the world where Janet Nippletano lives.Question…when do I get my protection, and from whom? You’re right about one thing…I’m carrying and I feel safe as hell!
Something tells me your tip-toe-ing through the tulips.

    • DaveH

Did you not watch the video I posted, rjg?
Tell that to the people who are now 6 feet under because they were afraid to protect themselves for fear of breaking a misguided law.
The problem with defense is that you rarely know you are going to need it until the actual event, so it would require nearly constant carry.
Offense on the other hand is usually planned so the Criminal knows exactly when to carry the weapon for the least amount of exposure to the anti-gun laws. Plus, he is called a criminal for a reason. He doesn’t care if it is against the law. Only the law-abiding citizens get stuck with the laws even if it may cost them their lives.
As far as I’m concerned, the Liberals are accessories in the murders of all those victims who might not have been victims had they been allowed to protect themselves freely.

  • http://gmail i41

edy 47, Most people get caught intentionally burning buildings and property down, unless you are a union/mob thug, and it does help to have Chicago connection to the white house. Even Omooslam’s good close bud, built bombs, killed people, damaged public property, and is revered smuck by every democrats and all of you socialists. The second amendment says I can gun at at will and in my possesion. Your post makes me think you must be another of Lib’s inbred brothers. Your idea of if some socialist paper chaser says something, all you and pee brained ilk fall in line. Get in the real world. As for setting up for trouble, Omoron’s voters sure set the USA for trouble, and it is here!

  • eddie47d

i41; Starbucks never had a problem until gunowners made it a problem. Your last sentence proved that you are setting them up for trouble and trouble always arrives. You can also set your house on fire and collect the insurance money with your way of thinking. “because I can”. Maybe you have the vapor block.

    • JeffH

eddie47d, that is a blatant mis-truth. Starbucks never had a problem until the anti-gun group Brady Bunch went after them. They didn’t ask to be involved, the Brady Campaign involved Starbucks. Liberals always want to make societies rules to fit their beliefs. The rest of us just want to be left alone without any thoughtless intrusions into our lives. This is still a free America in case you hadn’t realized.

      • DaveH

        Does that surprise you, Jeff?
        Liberals misinform.
        Liberals are bullys.
I’ve known both of those things for most of my life.

      • JeffH

        Not at all.

  • http://gmail i41

Anyone want to help me form a Starbucks Gun Club. Open to blackpowder and automics, .22′s to 50 caliber. One thing when dems and the socialist dinks always ask, why do you want a gun that can fire a zillion rounds before you reload, and I ask why do you need a 500 horsepowered engine , in a 2000 pound fiberglass roller skate, when a 3.5 horse powerred lawn mower motor would work? Because I can, that’s why. Dems have a vapor block between the ears, due to their eleitist attitude. Go Starbucks, set up a round for everyone and chamber a round.

  • JUST SAY NO to bigger government

So the Brady anti-gun campaign and Howard Schultz have a whole 34,000 signatures so far? WOW! I’m impressed! That’s pretty pathetic lol. Is that the total signatures of what the Brady people have in their fold?
Bob, you could start a Pro-Starbucks petition and get more signatures in 2 days with everyone forwarding emails to 2nd amendment friends.
    ………………………………………………………………………………………………
Steven Pilling, Did you mis-read the article above?

p.s. If one law abiding citizen in Lubys had been armed, that criminal wouldn’t have gotten off more than one shot.

    • http://www.xanga.com/STEVENPILL Steven Mark Pilling

Dear JSN: I misread nothing. In fact, the Killeen tragedy was exactly what I had in mind. As you say, if only one of those people had been armed, that maniac would have been stopped the second he emerged from his truck. As it turned out, men had to offer their bodies as human shields while the women and children fled out of a broken window. One of those women was one who normally carried a pistol in her purse. But, because Luby’s strictly forbade weapons in their restaurant, she had left her’s behind. She’s been a vocal 2nd Amendment advocate ever since. But Luby’s bears a share of the guilt for not protecting their patrons- disarmed at their behest. Criminals do not respect “no firearms” signs! That small piece of logic is apparently beyond the ability of liberals to comprehend.

      • JUST SAY NO to bigger government

        Steven;
Ok I got you. From reading your first post, I thought you were against Starbucks policy of following the law of open carry.

  • Jim H.

Star Bucks coffee sizes come in grande, vente, and MAGNUM.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Jim H,
make mine magnum!!!!! I heard they also come in the smaller 9MM size!!!

      • JeffH

They call the individual esspresso shots the 22magnum.

      • Jim H.

I think the price of the MAGNUM is 357.

    • JC

      haha…That’s Great! :)

  • eddie47d

C.J.; Starbucks doesn’t hire anyone to guard their coffee shops and your spotter comment was whacko. You paranoid comments (and I’ve heard plenty) are one reason I don’t support either side of the gun debate. Neither side is reasonable and are just fearmongering. Until the last 10-15 years nobody got worked up over guns and few even wanted them in their home. You certainly didn’t have to worry about ANYBODY carrying a weapon into a Starbucks. Now your “forced” to make it your Patriotic duty to do so or your Un-American pondscum. Who’s next Home Depot or J.C. Pennys?

    • JeffH

Now your “forced” to make it your Patriotic duty to do so or your Un-American pondscum. Who’s next Home Depot or J.C. Pennys?

      I can only laugh!

      • DaveH

That coming from a guy who typically advocates for Obama. Why Force with Social Pressure when you can hire Obama to Force with the power of Big Government?

    • http://?? Joe H.

      edduh47,
where did you get the idea that 15 years ago very few wanted guns in their home??? get your head out of your dark orifice!!!!

      • JUST SAY NO to bigger government

        Joe,
eddies just a dunderhead. Besides believing everything obama tells him, he also has the hots for sarah brady, so he’s going with anything she says, truth and facts be dammed.

      • rwnut

Joe H.Iwas thinking the same thing.
        eddie47d…See quote 5/7 at 11:31 a.m. That was about 70 years ago.
I’m 64 and I was raised on eggs, taters, and maters, with a little gunpowder seasoning, and I teethed on a mouthful of buckshot till my first tooth came in at about eight years old. I was then weaned with the help of my first toy, a 38 bullgog. Momma was real happy.
        KEEP’EM LOADED BOYS!

      • http://?? Joe H.

        rwnut,
AMEN to both of the last two posts!!!

  • http://www.xanga.com/STEVENPILL Steven Mark Pilling

Is Starbucks prepared to hire armed guards for its outlets to protect its disarmed patrons? Unless it is- and unless they’re prepared to face another such tragedy as Luby’s in Killeen TX- they’d best think twice.

    • JeffH

Do you know something that they don’t know? I would guess by your comment that there should be a new law made that mandates every public venue to provide armed guards to protect patron citizens from patron citizens!

    • JC

I think the comment leans on the idea that we should carry or they should have security…I think…

      • http://www.xanga.com/STEVENPILL Steven Mark Pilling

Dear JC: That’s exactly what I’m saying. Any public business that disallows customers the means of personal protection morally inherits- in my opinion- the obligation to defend those patrons from attack. That “no firearms” sign in the window is a red flag for any criminal or terrorist looking to make his mark.

  • rwnut

We’re invaded from our southern border. We’re now being attacked from within by the jihadi’s and the islami’s thanks to our governments policy of “diversity”.
Isoroku Yamamoto said this…I would never invade the United States. There would be a gun behind every blade of grass”.
What America needs is a lawfully armed citizen behind every Starbucks cup!

  • http://msn Dale

I agree with Starbucks we should all follow the law. One thing The Brady Campaign, Mayor Bloomburg and other people like them have in common is their hatred for law abiding people. They never condem criminals for their acts. If we adopted their policy of an unarmed country we would all be victims of crime and powerless to protect ourselves.

    • Tom

Yeah! Whatever happened to holding people accountable for their actions? Liberals hug them and whisper in their ears that “It’s okay… We know you had a hard time growing up. Don’t worry, we won’t let anybody make you pay for your crimes.
I always wondered why my dad called liberals “bleeding hearts.” Now I know.

    • JC

“Powerles to protect ourselves”…those are the operative words.

  • JeffH

Starbucks never asked to be involved in the Brady Bunch campaign’s anti-gun fight. They’ve taken a “middle of the road ,law of the land” stance and are being demonized by the anti’s and the very weak leftist Brady Campaign.
I applaud Starbuck’s and have emailed my show of support to them also.

  • s c

Add Starbuck’s to America’s long list of LOSERS. As far as I’m concerned, since Starbuck’s won’t get my business, it would be fine if I knew that some people will take their trained attack dog(s) with them to get a fresh, hot cup of mediocre coffee.
It might not be a bad idea if the decision-makers at Starbuck’s recruit hundreds of lawyers, so they’ll be ready to go to court and defend the firm’s corporate ‘reputation.’. If Starbuck’s goes out of business, oh well. If Starbuck’s stock value sinks, that’s tough. Not everyone can run a business, and Starbuck’s sounds as though their time in the barrel has come. Enjoy, Starbuck’s. You can always complain to Obubbabummer. Maybe he’ll make Starbuck’s a government-owned “business.”

    • Tom

      Damn Trolls!

    • The Real American

Im sure as you all know, there an certain bill called AB1934 in the state legislature that is aiming to ban open carry in California. Californians, if you truly want to have a voice in keeping our 2nd amendment rights, including the right to open carry, call 1-916-319-2081 (state assembly) to urge your assemblymen/woman to kill this bill. Say why your calling, name and address, and your done! 30 seconds, same time it takes to make a post.

      • JeffH

        I’ve called all of them.

      • rwnut

Real American…Also bill 1810-expands Californias registration requirements to cover all long guns.
Also bill 2223-would ban the use of lead shot in wildlife management areas.
Oppose all three!Tell them to kill these bills!

    • Duh??

      Hey S C,
Did you even read the article above?

      • s c

What a fitting name you have. Only a progressive could accuse me of being a member of Congress. I was able to read before I was enolled in kindergarten, duh.
Did mums and dads take a long time to decide what to call you? Ladies and gentlemen, duh is obviously on Obbbabummer’s short list of education czar candidates!
He can’t read, he has no plans to learn how to read or express himself (beyond an occasional grunt), and he’s got his head rammed up the same dark, aromatic place as Arlen Specter.
If I was in a tacky mood, I’d tell you that your word for the day is ‘useful idiot.’ But, I’m not in a tacky mood, so I won’t.

      • Duh??

        SC,
I don’t get it sc. You’ve always been a conservative poster on here, and now you’re anti-Starbucks, when all they have done is support our 2nd amendment rights, and are abiding by local laws. What gives? Can you explain this? Why are you anti-Starbucks?
I ask again, did you read the article?

I’m beginning to think that the American Liberal has hijacked your name and is trying to make you look like you’re anti second amendment.

      • Jim

Not the real sc. Just some liberal troll. The real sc would have answered the question, and not gone into a sarcastic infantile tirade. The original sc probably knocked this trolls dick in the dirt on another thread, and the troll couldn’t debate him, so now is here attempting to discredit him by trying to make him appear as a liberal.

    • JeffH

s c, if you don’t like Starbucks that’s OK. I hope your reasons are not based on their neutral stance that has caused the Brady Campaigns assault on Starbucks choice to allow local and state laws determine whether a gun may or may not be carried in their establichments across the country. Starbucks, in no way, has taken a negative approach to open carry or any position on gun control.

  • Norman

I feel more “at ease” when I know there are customers inside who are carrying. We need more places like Starbucks. Go Starbucks. A life endowment NRA member. JOIN TODAY.

    • JC

      I’m with you.

  • OneDamnAngryAmerican

In the past, both Denny’s and McDonalds have had gunmen come into their resteraunts and “kill” patrons. If other patrons were in possession of legally carried firearms, they might have had the opportunity to save the lives taken by those “criminals.” Let Starbucks keep their anti-gun policy. Even if you do not favor gun ownership or gun-rights, you should add Starbucks onto your list of places not to do business with. If they are unwilling to protect your mother, wife, daughter, or yourself, then why patronize them? NOT ME! You can still go there, though. Don’t worry. Starbucks will protect you. Just like how our government has protected us from illegal aliens who commit 99.9999999% of all crimes now, in the USA!

    • DaveH

Don’t blame you for being angry.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1u0Byq5Qis&feature=related

      Go Suzanna!

Starbucks does not have an anti-gun policy.

“Starbucks’ official gun policy remains unchanged. The company website says that “we comply with local laws and statutes in all the communities we serve [and] abide by the laws that permit open carry in 43 U.S. states.”

      • honeybadger

Where could I obtain a list of the 43 states that allow ‘open’ carrying of firearms?

    • honeybadger

How does old Ed feel when he sees a uniformed Law Enforcement Officer in Starbucks? I was in and out of Starbucks for years in uniform and NEVER had a comment made, one way or the other. I have since retired from Law Enforcement after 27+ years. Upon retirement I complied with my states legal requirements for carrying a concealed weapon. After this I also complied with the Federal requirements signed into law by President Bush in 1996 that allows me to carry concealed across the United State. I have been sworn to numerous oaths over the years and have YET to have even one rescinded, therefore I still consider myself ‘sworn’ even today. I WILL be armed, as I have been since retirement, and If it becomes known that I am carrying concealed, all involved will be glad for my being armed.

  • obiwan

I carry concealed, loaded and hot anywhere.

    • Tom

Ditto. An unloaded gun is nothing more than a paperweight.

    • JC

The only way to roll. If we all did, I’d give the crime rate 6 months to be cut in half.

What ongoing dispute? Ain’t this a little late? I mean this whole dust up is soooo two months ago. Why would you want to go stirring up old wounds? Poor Paul and his merry band are still smarting from getting drubbed by Starbucks and the pro-rights community, so I would hazard a guess you still don’t agree with it.

The Brady Bunch has backed off it’s little PR blitz. I believe the smoke has cleared and Starbucks was declared the winner.

    • Tom

Exactly. This is just the death throes of the anti-gun movement to try – one last time – to get Starbucks to change their minds and cave to liberal pressure.
      Stay strong Starbucks!

  • Lee

Can’t stand the coffee but love the gun policy.

    • Tom S.

I don’t work for Starbucks, and I can’t speak for them, but I’m sure they appreciate your support Lee.

      • rich

I can’t stand coffee…but after reading about this I sent a letter of thanks to their corporate email address, and I bought gift cards for my friends and relatives. And – I received a nice reply fom them to boot!

  • CJ

I’ve emailed Starbucks on this, thanking them for standing on principle and not giving in to “rights removers”. I only wish there was one close so I could sip a cup with my uncomfortably concealed weapon in the open. The Brady group’s ideal just doesn’t make sense when a business has to hire someone who carries a gun to protect them when they could just allow legally authorized people to do it for free. Starbucks is smart, talk about cheap security.

    • Tom S.

And we’re especially alert due to the wonderful coffee they serve there.
Hey, wait a minute! Free security?
Maybe we should negotiate for a free cup of coffee every once in a while. ;0)

      • CJ

I think any business needing security should OPENLY advertise that they offer something free with a purchase to anybody who carries openly. However, there is one drawback to this. Someone wanting to identify carriers can have spotters watching for it. Then, an observant employee will watch for the spotters. It’s a fine line to walk. By the way, I support Starbucks by buying bagged coffee under their Seattle’s Best line, too.

  • JC

Support American industry (what’s left of it), buy a gun and some coffee today. Go Starbuck’s! ;)

    • Ron O.

I agree with JC. If Thom Prince only knew how many 7-11 stores have been robbed at gun point and how many of their employees have been killed over the years in armed robberies, he might be able to get that brown stuff out of his eyes. These stores have been the easy target for those unscrupulous individuals looking for an easy way to get some money for their drug habit and only in those rare cases where the employee actually had a gun did they survive the attack. Those same same armed gunmen will not go to Starbucks because they now know there is a good chance their attempt to get their drug money will meet with resistance. Wake up Prince. It’s much better to have one armed citizen in your coffee shop than a bunch of dead bodies. Go find out what it takes to get a concealed carry permit and maybe you will feel more comfortable about the subject. I have one myself and I am as well trained as most police officers.

      • Tom S.

Ron, you’re asking too much of sheeple like Mr. Prince. They’re, generally, too lazy to actually think for themselves. It’s much easier to just regurgitate, ad nauseam, what they hear and read from the MSM and their liberal politicians (because we all know those sources are SO reliable).

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Ron,
My niece was offered a job at a 7-11 and I talked her out of it for that very reason!!

    • Tom S.

Hear-hear JC! I was using a different brand of coffee before I heard this story. I am, now, a confirmed Starbucks customer for life.

    • DaveH

It’s enough to make me a coffee drinker!
Please, if you are a coffee drinker and you love Freedom, Buycott Starbucks.
Way to go Starbucks. Don’t let these fanatical Liberal Forcers dictate your rules.

      • TIME

        Dave,
I agree with you 100%. I understand that DD has very good coffee too. When I used to drink coffee I got it from a little deli that had Kona Blue and Columbian Supreeme dark.

Saddly with the down turn in the economy they went out of business about three months ago. And as I watch more and more small business falling it blows my mind to read on MSN today that we are well in to a strong recovery. Yea right we are.

      • JeffH

TIME, I worked in the coffee industry for 25 years. The warehousing and transportation end as a manager. Kona Gold, Jamaican Blue Mtn. and Colombian Supremo are generally light roast coffees. Colombian Supremo is my favorite. I had to start buying my coffee again recently, but I still buy my old bosses labels. I’ve dealt with just about every major roaster at one time or another. Was a great business, but Californias over regulations cost me my job with Nestle Beverage/Hills Bros/MJB in the bay area. They packed it in and moved out of state.

      • DaveH

I’ve been trying for years to get my kids to move away from the Left-Coast, but to no avail. They are going to cling stubbornly until it totally collapses.

      • JeffH

DaveH, the liberals are destroying the whole country and California liberals are leading the way.

      • DaveH

        Yep, Misery loves company.

  • Thom Prince

To Howard Schultz I’d like to say, when it comes to stopping for coffee – “Oh, thank heaven for 7/11.”

    • Tom S.

Please! Go somewhere – ANYWHERE – else for your coffee.ESPECIALLY 7-11.
You’ll have a much BETTER chance of being shot there during one of their many robberies.
I agree, “Oh, thank heaven for 7-11.” Especially if it rids us of one more uninformed, knee jerk Brady ideologues like YOU.

    • Mark

I like the coffee and I feel very secure there, with it well know that many responsible, licensed citizens like me are carrying and hanging out there, I’m sure starting crap at a Starbucks is at the bottom of the list for criminals. Poor libtards, all those guns and ZERO problems to point at.
