President Bush was against using embryos for stem cell research as it kills a developing human being. you were once an embryo. He was all for adult stem cell research which has had some successes unlike that using embryos. There have been some horrific results with that.

The impression I have of Palin is that she is for smaller, less intrusive government, solid currency and American sovereignty.
These things are in alignment with the Constitution and I am nothing if not a Constitutionalist.
She did an amazing job of cleaning up corruption in the Alaskan government. She pared government there down very much and spurred free enterprise more than Alaska had seen in a long time.

I had heard some things about her concerning possible abuses of power while governor. But to be honest, its often difficult to determine whether something has just been blown out of proportion, is true or a total lie.

I mean most of us are not really in a position to know for sure.

Theres a whole lot of Republicans who claim that same platform. And I know that platforms are mostly for elections. Once in office these small government supporters often grow the size of Government.
So I am a little leery as I have heard it all before and have been duped.

But I guess we’ll have to judge her by her own actions, not that of others.

He went before the Senate Banking Committee and tried to reason them into putting some controls and Fannie and Freedie lending practices but was put down by none other than Dodd who said they were finely run institutions and were doing the American public a great service by promoting lending for houses.

Even with both wars Bush did not run up an unmanageable budget deficit – that happened his last two years in office when Democrats started spending big time. Bush actually thought about vetos a few times but knew he would be over-ridden. Don’t get me wrong – not totally defending George, but be serious and state some facts that are true.

I will admit, I was STUNNED & sad when I heard Sarah had stepped down as Governor of Alaska after about 18 years serving in office in various elected offices. I think Pres Obama’s healthcare reform plan was all wrong too. I agree with him that costs are way too high, but what we were handed was an unconstitutional mess. He could have done a whole lot better.

To set prices in reverse he could have given seed money to start a private fully regulated nonprofit insurance option. That would have caused insurance companies to compete and to renegotiate pricing with doctors and hospitals, lowering costs. We would do very well to to legitimize various “Unconventional” therapies that work and have solid science behind them. That alone would achieve a huge cost savings.

Nothing should be mandatory. And it would need to be seperate from government.

What we have been handed instead, is more medical racketeering on a larger scale. It was not at all a serious effort to “Reform” anything.

I cannot build a house without government intervention, I cannot keep and distribute my money they way I want without government threats and intervention, if the government wants to take my home (eminent domain) I cannot stop them without a lengthy and costly legal action, if I want to ride my motorcycle without a helmut I am prohibited in most states and now the federal government is trying to over-ride the few states that allow it, if I want to get in my car and ride without a seat belt I am prohibited and even have to pay more for a vehicle to enforce this law, if I want to go fishing or hunting I need a government “permit”, if I want to attend a fringe element meeting I am spied on by my government, and the Patriot Act took away more freedoms so what was your point about “free”?

I have had to contribute to SS trust fund only to find that it will not be there for our children and grandchildren because the federal government has systematically looted it. I have to contribute to Medicare and that will no longer be there in the coming years because it is currently insolvent. If I had the money I was forced to pay into these two programs I could purchase really premium health care upon retirement and would have a big IRA or 401K to draw from instead of the pittance handed out by SS.

Oh, heck I could go on and on but if I examine my life I will find the only true “freedom” I have left is the right to be who I am and speak my mind. Though speaking my mind for now is free, it’s not going to be if we continue to give up our rights in small increments at a time.

That kind of sheer greed is causing problems, and causing some not to be able to afford health insurance. A free market solution of competition should fix that.

you say that a surgeon shouldn’t make 500 dollars an hour yet they sometimes don’t pay off their college loans for 10 years after they graduate. They also pay a receptionist, a nurse, and sometimes a PA from that 500 dollars an hour, not to mention rent in a medical building!!! But on the other hand if a surgeon makes a mistake and leaves a gause sponge in a patient and goes back in and is successfull in removing it without any problems to the patient, said paitent should be able to sue for a million dollars?!?! Or a person spills hot coffee in their lap and gets a million dollars because the fast food joint didn’t warn them it was HOT?!?!?!? This doesn’t need to be changed???

Sidewinder– I won’t even get started on doctors and health care. The old saying “you get what you pay for” is not true when it comes to doctors and hospitals. My husband has been to both hospitals in Springfield, IL and guess what. They are supposed to be “great” hospitals. He has so many health issues now and truthfully I think most were caused by “botched” jobs and the stupid medications, etc. The cost of his surgeries were unbelievable. I think the hospitals , the doctors, and the health care system in this country leaves a lot to be desired. I compare the health care system to a politician and it is called GREED. I have more faith in a veterinarian. In fact, at this point in my life, I would rather go to a veterinarian. Sorry, I realize there is some good in everything, but I don’t think I have found any “good” in the health care system.

Mississippi has tort reform and it has cut down on the number of frivolous suits, cut down on the massive decisions and has lowered the price of medical care in that state. what it has also stopped is Mississippi being a “broker house” for class action suits where the lawyers get millions and the victims get less than 25%! You want to talk about obscene money look no farther than our legal system. Why should lawyers get 1000 dollars an hour??? I filed a workmans comp claim for wages lost and medical costs and all my lawyer did was pay a legal tech to type up some forms and letters and represent me for 45 minutes and he got 40% of 14,000 dollars! I found out later that the outcome would have been the same if I had filled out the forms and just showed up! I would have gotten the same amount! Do you think he would have told me that?? nope!

Doctor in my area was sued 5 times for malpractice and made out of court settlements which were kept private. He actually caused two deaths – one via plastic surgery and one via a nose/sinus operation. He is still in business today. Fact is the licensing agencies allow him to keep practicing and his office is still open and that government in action folks. Doctors will not usually testify against each other so what other action could there be to stop bad doctors from practicing? I know local state agencies are not doing the job so why would a federal agency be any better?

You can’t always finish running a race, if someone who hates you has purposely,and cruelly shot you down, and you can’t effectively continue running it. Sometimes you take a “time out” instead and regroup. Re-evaluate. Sacrifice for others. Then try again when the time is right. Sort of like an Olympic Athlete who must drop out due to a broken leg. He used my “hard earned money” to give to a corporation that was poorly run by a lot of rich folks and all Obama did was just put off the inevitable. According to the news story I heard on it, there were supposed to be a lower, which it had, and an upper that would shut off and stop explosions, which it didn’t have. Bushes cabinet first gave them a pass on it and then Obummers cabinet gave them one in April of 2009.

Jez – that would be the Federal agency that is tasked with over-sight – which are in bed with the oil companies and others that support that industry. I’m pretty sure you cannot find an actual signature on an actual bill that either Palin or Bush or any other president signed personally. The difference between the Liberals and the Conservatives on the subject of charity is just a matter of HOW these things are carried out. Liberals believe that the government should do it. Conservatives believe that charity is not charity unless it is voluntary and private. They still believe in generosity, just not government regulated. Ironically, Many Famous Liberals I could mention are not even as generous as Conservatives, according to proven stats.

Even Jesus said: “Give to Caesar things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are God’s.” He even made a distinction between the Gov. money, and personal money which we give for God’s purposes, which would include charity giving.

In the past the Church has always been the Charity givers. Not the government. And thank God, that God is our judge, and not the Government or a complete stranger that doesn’t know us.

So Nick – here’s the difference. I believe that I can best distribute my money to charities I have researched and want to support. You believe the federal government (not the state even) should take my money be force and coercion and distribute it to whom they see fit. That’s really worked wonderfully over the years. The War on Poverty hasn’t done much as there are 20% more people in poverty than when it started. There is welfare fraud, food stamp fraud, subsidized housing fraud, medicare/medicaid/VA fraud, the post office is bankrupt, Amtrak is bankrupt and you keep hoping the federal government will come and help you out?

In all the local charities that I work for, there is not ONE liberal minded person physically there to help out. They spend their time spewing ideas that people should be forced to help through the federal government. We, in the charities, work to keep as much money as possible through volunteer efforts in order to remain self-sufficent and able to help people in our communities.

So – I’ll ask this again. When was the last time you actually volunteered your TIME to help out a local charity? I do this every single week all year long. I volunteer at least 20 hours to two very good locally run charities and which allows us to distribute 98% of the money we collect back into the charity. Don’t you think if we had all the money the government takes from us for social programs we could come up with better and more efficient ways to help people in need in our communities without the waste and fraud? We have NEVER dispensed help or money to anyone that is claiming fraudulent benefits. Think of what each community could do if they had all that money?

The day Clinton left office and GWB took office, there was a budget deficit of $17.9 billion (take out SS because that’s a trust fund though congress robs it illegally). The first full year of GWB’s presidency there was a budget deficit of $133 billion and that budget was signed by – pregnant pause here – CLINTON! Wow, so Clinton lied. That lie is still around today as I have heard some congressional candidates in the south spewing the lie that they helped Clinton balance the budget. False advertising I think. Isn’t there a law about campaigning and using lies?
