Fallout From Arizona Anti-immigration Law Continues

Fallout from Arizona anti-immigration law continues While praised by many immigration reform proponents, the law passed in Arizona that seeks to limit illegal immigration by making it a crime to be in the state without documentation has stirred controversy among many ethnic organizations.

Last week, the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce criticized the law, saying it will result in the racial profiling of Latinos. It has now been joined by The Hispanic National Bar Association, whose representatives claim that the legislation raises "grave constitutional issues."

In addition to racial profiling, the alleged constitutional violations include freedom from unreasonable seizures and lack of due process guarantees, according to the association.

HNBA National President Roman D. Hernandez said that "if enacted, this law will create an impediment to effective police enforcement of major crimes."

He cited local law enforcement officials as saying that "Hispanics in general and undocumented persons in particular will be less willing to cooperate in providing information to police."

The Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhood Act was passed earlier this month and it makes it a state misdemeanor to fail to comply with Federal law requiring that foreign nationals register and carry their documents with them.

Moreover, it directs police officers to inquire as to immigration status on a "reasonable suspicion" that an individual is undocumented.ADNFCR-1961-ID-19737484-ADNFCR

    What an idiotic excuse Hernandez gives that Hispanics will now be less likely to cooperate with police investigations. I would think one could make the counter argument that with this law in effect there may be less crime.

    If you are not legally living in any country and plan to suck off the government udder…then you should not be here. That is the basic premise of the law. Racial profiling is just the biggest smoke screen leftys can use to undermine not only the constitution but the laws designed to uphold it. Sharpton/Jackson show up on the scene with cacophonous rhetoric to divert attention away from the language and intent of the law. Anyone surprised that the media has given a free pass tot he violence at such protests calling them, “mostly peaceful”. Tea Parties have shown no violence and the integrity of the group is assaulted daily.

    ALL States should follow Arizona’s lead. If the United States Government will not do anything about illegals, then the States should enact their own policies. It’s time for some kind of crack-down. I just read CNN report. There is a bill out to give amnesty to illegals and the “rewards” they get from you and me (our tax dollars) is asssssnine. Oh, yes, the illegals will not have to learn English for nine years!!

      It is not just Mexicans! We have aproximatly 10,000 illegal Irishmen here. There are hundreds of middle easterners coming over the border as well. These are people that have sworn to destroy us. I’m not afraid of any man, but I don’t tempt fate either!! We have to stop the flood of illegal flesh flowing across our border unchecked!!!

    Never let a “good” crisis go to waste…Hum where have we heard that?.

    Since this is profilling the only way to eliminate law suits will be to mandate an ID system ( national ID ).. for each and every citizen.
    As I have posted on other threads… This crisis is exactly what the government wants, it will give them an excuse to pass a new law on ID.

    I would think that those who are here legally and have done things the right way would not want to be stained by the gangs and violent behavior of those who are making them look bad. We have an incompetent national government so it falls to the states to defend themselves. Beyond this, it is a good time to remember that the states created the federal government, they are not merely administrative districts.

    LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE… Only if there is sufficient suspicion. Just like “probable cause”. The simple way to fix this would be to issue Arizona drivers licenses ONLY to people who have a right to be here. ILLEGALs should NOT be able to get drivers licenses. Then, checking ID would be easier. You have an AZ license – no problem. You don’t have a license – ok – provide ANY other type of document to prove you are NOT ILLEGAL, otherwise, you will be arrested and will have to prove that you are NOT an Illegal and be fair – give them a chance, but do NOT let them out of custody to do so – someone ELSE can get their documents – OR – send a couple of deputies with them to recover their documents.

      When I am driving around on Long Island – New York I get stopped and asked for my papers monthly, they have [ ” Drunk Driving stops” } all the time. That also goes on all over the US right now.

      And yet – I don’t see anyone jumping up and down over these stops.

      I get stopped when I take my Porsche for a drive twice a year across the US, if I take I 10 I get stopped in Louisiana every time for speeding, yet I am not or was I ever speeding there.
      Its just a method of making money for the small Parishes along the route. Really watch the one just past Red Stick they are real butt heads.

    First, STOP calling them “undocumented” – call a spade a spade – they are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS… The KEY word is ILLEGAL.

    This person raises a good point. I suggest a solution. The first time an illegal is deported, a copy of his DNA, fingerprints, and retinal scan is done. If the same person is caught again, he gets put into JAIL and is forced to do HARD LABOR (and I mean USEFUL hard labor!!!) for 1 year – no possibility of parole. The 2nd time this occurs, the sentence is 5 years – no possibility of parole. The 3rd time this occurs, the sentence is LIFE – no possibility of parole.

    This way, we WILL get useful work from them, and they will get what they want – a roof over their head and food.

      Are you aware what started this need for such a law in Arizona. The fact that they have 460,000 illegals coming across their borders; that a long time resident (rancher) in Arizona was murdered by these illegals along with his dog. It goes beyond the word illegal; they are murdering people, raping women, kidnapping young girls, taking jobs, robbing, etc., etc., etc. Could it be that Mexico does not want these criminals either because it costs so much to house them so allow them to cross the borders.

    OK…let’s wipe the spittle from everyone’s face. Arizona’s law harkens to the darkest days of world history. The law applies not just to those of brown skin, or dark tans. It applies to everyone, and as such everyone who is in Arizona…whether resident or tourist, best be packing their wallets and ID. Illegal immigration is not just a problem in relation to Hispanics. Eastern Europenas also overstay visas and are here illegally. The law applies to them as well. So anyone, Caucasians included, can be stopped at random and asked to present their “papers”.

    Anyone…ANYONE ..can now be stopped by Arizona law enforcement and asked for their ‘papers”, asked where they’ve been, where they are going, what they are doing, where they live etc etc…and if the cop isn’t satisfied? They can hold you.

    So step back and think rationally … the State can now ask anyone, anytime, anywhere, for whatever reason, to see “papers”. Remember…a driver’s license does not pass muster under Arizoma law. IDENTITY PAPERS. Everyone now has to carry them in Arizona or be liable to be held without charges, without right to counsel, without a phone call…

    You cheer for that?

    The way to stop undocumented workers is simple. Those that employ them and knew, or should have known, of illegal status…should be fined and then spend 30 days in the county jail. No reprieve from jail time. 30 days in the county clink. The social stigma of being in jail will cure most if not all incentive to break the law and hire illegal labor. No jobs…..no reason to be here seeking work illegally. Problem solved.

    The question everyone should be asking their representatives is … why are they punishing some poor slob who is doing what everyone advocates..getting a job and working for a living? Why not go after those who employ illegal labor?

    So why is everyone giving those who break the law and emply illegal labor a free pass?

      Illegal is illegal. The feds won’t enforce the laws against employers of illegals either. Man up and let the Arizona law be a model for America, afterall America is under siege at the Arizona border.

        I’m not gonna ride the fence anymore. It is what it is, it ain’t the feds and Obama, it’s a state that has pleaded for help from the feds to control the crime associated with the illegals that bring drugs, violence and human trafficking. I don’t give a hoot about protecting these illegal criminals, and if it steps on some toes, so be it.
        I am not a racist, but right is right and wrong is wrong! Obama and his cronies are loving this, and for them, it will be a no win proposition. If the feds had done their job from the git-go we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. There isn’t an easy way out of the probelem. Amnesty to all? NOT! Round em up and ship em out, that’s a solution I can live with.
        Kudos to Arizona for taking the bull by the cahones and squeezing tight.

    ILLEGALS are just that–NOT LEGAL! They have already proven themselves a criminal simply by being here WITHOUT documentation that is real! NO officer will purposely put himself in possible danger by confronting what APPEARS to be an illegal alien merely to ask if he has documentation! He will ASK for ID because something the person has done or said appears suspicious! When was the last time YOU got stopped by a Highway Patrol for a ROUTINE traffic check? Pretty recent, wasn’t it? We as citizens–EXPECT to occasionally be checked for ID–it’s part of life, and part of keeping us safe! IF anyone objects to this routine stop and asking for ID–it’s probably because they have something to hide. Reminds me of the US citizens routinely asking for Obama’s long-form Birth Certificate–and getting instead an Executive Order to hide from discovery ALL records referring to his birth and childhood–to the tune of $1.7 MILLION of OUR money! Kinda makes a body suspicious of what there is to hide–in either case! (illegal aliens OR the occupier of the White House!)

    The Obama administration says the Arizona law is “misguided.” Well, at least they have the guts to try to do something about the illegals. I have already stated that I have no problem with an ID card. I would do anything to get rid of the illegals. They are breaking us. I did not hear that the Arizona governor asked for the National Guard and nothing has been done yet? Imagine that! But they are sending the National Guard to Chicago!! Gotta take care of Chicago first and foremost. The violence/killings/robberies, drug users are rampant in Chicago. Mayor Daley and his cronies have done a great job!!! Heck, I don’t even go out after dark anymore and I don’t live in Chicago.

        William Ayers(Obama’s buddie) will speak at Fresno State Friday. He’s a controversial figure because he led the Weather Underground, a radical group that set off bombs at the White House, the Pentagon and many other targets in the early 70′s to protest the Vietnam War.

        Nobody was hurt in those blasts, but Ayers radical past, and his more recent association with Barack Obama makes him a target of Tea Party protestors, who showed up at a Fresno Church where he spoke on a documentary film about the Weather Underground.

        About 50 members of the Tea Party Movement came to protest Bill Ayers appearance in Fresno.

      I feel your pain. I respect Arizona’s governor for taking on this issue; she’s got more courage than New Mexico’s governor (Richardson)….that’s for sure.

      I just wish Arizona’s governor would ask all the states National Guard units for assistance on the border…then let each state’s Governor reject (if so inclined) her public request for assistance….so the nation can see each state for what it is.

      National Guard units are state militia’s. Look at the times National Guard units have been requested for state of emergencies in states other than their own. Living in a border state (especially after 9-11), I believe the current Federal immigration policy (or lack thereof) is a “State of Emergency”….at least in the border states. I’m not a military Judge Advocate (attorney), but I believe it’s usually up to the governor (ultimately), not up to the President….well except for the manipulative arm twisting that can and frequently does occur.

I think it is up to the governor to ask for the National Guard, but I don’t know for sure. I hope so. Now the Texas governor should pass the same law. And New Mexico-and California? I know I would. The question is–will the National Guard be allowed to shoot? Or just threaten? If it is just threaten, then it will not help.

        The National Guard has ALWAYS been under the Commandership of the Governor of that particular State–that’s why they are referred to as the “STATE NAME National Guard” The Commander-In-Chief of the US Military is supposed to be the POTUS.
        To even get the Governor to call out his State’s National Guard except for his use within that particular State–the POTUS is supposed to ASK–and get an acceptance–from the Governor of that State, based on a clear and carefully spelled out NATIONAL EMERGENCY.

      I’m thinking the Feds are also nervous that other states may pass similar laws as well. If this happens, the administration may lose the political initiative on immigration reform to the states and conservatives. This could cost the Democrats votes in the Fall elections. This is a very touchy subject with the American people, and how it is framed makes all the difference in what they eventually support. For example, Americans do want their borders and immigration laws enforced, but they don’t want to discriminate against anyone to do it. So, if the Democrats can frame this as a racial discrimination issue, then they win. Otherwise, they lose.

      Why on earth would we just shut up and leave you to all the fun? I live in NM and I commend Arizona for putting the Federal Government and apparently you, on notice. The Feds (all parties in DC) have not done their job, forcing border states to take action to protect their “legal” citizens.

      Before you start spewing that racist venom…”legal” citizens encompasses anyone born in this country or who are in the U.S…..”legally”. The problem is, the Feds have played blind while allowing this situation to get to boiling point. Things are different since 9-11; we can no longer as a nation…expect our border states to simply suck it up…financially or otherwise.

      Personally, it would be okay with me…if everyone, regardless of ethnicity who got stopped for a traffic or other violation had to prove their citizenship. This could easily be done when initially issued a drivers license or state ID….simply provide your birth certificate. In the long run, this would likely help the hispanic community….well at least those here legally.

        I remember reading about how many illegals have numerous stolen identities, and collect government money from each one. A single illegal could be collecting $10,000 or more per month. And a good deal of that goes back home to the family.

        And don’t forget that they also get social security now, so I suppose they could collect on each fraudulent ID.

        I’m thinking of revoking my citizenship so I can get in on some of their benefits. Might as well, since I’ve been paying long enough.

        I have lifelock on my ID now as my SS# was taken by an illegal. I happened to do a credit check and spotted it and was able to put a stop to it. I went to the police and the SS office as well as all three major crdit agencies and kept making a loud roar until everyone got it before it became a major issue. Whew was I lucky. Later I found out what could have happened.

    I think I would change the title of this article.

    Why do people keep MIS-representing the act of breaking the law, and illegally entering this country as “immigration” of some sort? Can anyone tell me?
    Immigrants and immigration is a nice word (p.c.) to clean up the words criminals, and illegal aliens which is what they really are. Kind of like muslum terrorists was cleaned up by OSAMA OBAMA to read “enemy combatant” and “terrorist bombings, suicide bombings, and road side bombings” was changed to “man caused events”

        I agree with you on this for sure. If we start accepting any illegal activities as the norm then we can justify all of them. Sure we have all broken the law by speeding, and if you’re like me you get caught. I had to go to class to relearn all about driving. I had to show the judge that I had taken that class. Have I sped since, not on purpose. If I catch myself doing so I slow down, it isn’t worth it. But the main thing is I didn’t get away with it, I had to pay with my money and my time.

        I have noticed that when these demonstrators go out and riot and throw bottles at the police the news depicts them as ‘victims’. When the TEA Party people gather together they are a mob. Hmmm sure is a double standard here.
        Another point, when the liberals and the illegals don’t like being told they are illegal they are standing up for their rights. When we call them illegal, then we are racists. More double speak and double standards.

        I’m not justifying one crime because other ones exist or are allowed. I’m responding to the comments that pretend the immigration issue is only about the law and illegality. If that were the case then why aren’t people up in arms over the other broken laws that citizens commit everyday and that aren’t enforced.
        Turning our country into more of a police state isn’t the answer. Patrol the border, fine large co’s that hire illegals and pay our workers enough so they will do the jobs that now only the mexicans will take.

        My daddy had a business downtown in a border town and was robbed. The illegals were secretly living on the roof of his building and came in through the roof.

        What most people who don’t have to face these conditions don’t understand is, these people have no good hygiene practices. They will go into a store and instead of going to the restroom to do their needs, they go into the dressing rooms and do it on the rug, this is men and women. They do it in the doorways of the businesses downtown. They stand in front of store windows and doors and people will not walk through this sea of people to go into the stores.
        My parents had to go an hour early every day just to clean up outside their store which at times was very disgusting. My husband helped my daddy clear the roof and repair it. They had a mattress up there and cooking pots. We were just thankful they didn’t burn the building down. All along the whole street, there were break ins. Daddy had to finally give up and go out of business.
        Just think about the farmers when they come across their property. These farmers and their families do not feel safe in any way, and they aren’t safe. I have lived this life, I know what it is, and it is not good.

        I’m afraid that is what the country is headed for if we don’t stop it. And the hygiene issue is a big one, as even legal immigrants are no longer screened for diseases. We now have resurgences of terrible diseases we had wiped out because of screening. Illegals with TB, hepatitis, and any number of diseases work in restaurants, food processing plants and places where they spread their infections illnesses, and no one cares. I even have a friend who came down with TB, and he is a clean fanatic. He was stunned to learn this. It had to have come from one of these sources.

        The law is an exact duplication of the Federal Law. It is not unconstitutional. If you are in this country illegally you need to leave. Arizona is footing the bill for almost 1/2 million illegals. They are educating their children, giving them medical benefits and every other benefit which is supposed to be for American citizens not illegal immigrants. The Feds have dropped the ball and Arizona has to keep its’ legal citizens from being kidnapped and murdered along with its’ law enforcement officers. I will gladly go to Arizona and spend my money when I know it is safe to do so. All of us who believe in the rule of law should do so to support a state which has put up with this for far too long.

        I don’t know what planet you came from, but go ahead and return with a quickness! I live in Indiana and it was very hard to find good paying work because of all the illegal immigrants coming here from south of our boarder. I’m glad our governor has set up programs to deal with this problem. Larger fines, immigration sweeps, jail time, and other are just part of our program to deal with this. Good job Arizona!

If I drive out of Arizona, I am immediately confronted by unemployed Hispanics standing on street corners looking for cash jobs. And the others work in fast food restaurants, laundries, hotels, construction, and other service industries, taking jobs away from unemployed Americans. If they create a situation in which there is probable cause to stop them, i.e. speeding, drunk driving, beating up their girlfriend, robbing a store, climbing over a wall at the border etc., they will be stopped. They will not be stopped for walking down the street or going about their business like every other person.         If Larry the Cable Guy look-alikes were entering this counrty illegally and started breaking other laws also, then yes they shoud be stopped and check to see if they’re here legally or not. Its time to start enforcing our immigration laws because the consequences are becoming to great and our citizens are losing their lives, and you can’t do that by sticking your head in the sand, you have to pro-active to enforce any law. To bad you liberals can’t convince regular American citizens to back your agendas, but have to import foreigners to do so by turning your backs on our laws and putting all of us in danger. This Arizona law is really unneeded if the federal government would just enforce their own laws, but then where would Obama, Nancy, and Harry get the votes to keep them in power? Murders, drug smugglers, and kidnappers are all using this border to get to our citizens to perpetrate these crimes, but to stop this the federal government would have to also stop the human trafficking, and there goes the future democratic voter pool.         I agree with what you said. We don’t have enough jobs for the educated, English speaking citizens of this country so why bring in these illegals who do not learn English, take jobs away from citizens, murder and rape people of this country, bring in illegal drugs to sell to our children.
        Darryl Steinburg of Sacramento, Ca and the minority professional ballplayers are against this law so why don’t they donate their high dollars back to Mexico to set up schools, jobs, and health care for these illegals so they stay in Mexico. If they had something to offer these people down south they would not be entering the USA.
