Don’t Pin Your Hopes On The Party Of Lincoln

Don’t Pin Your Hopes On The Party Of Lincoln

Republicans love to call themselves the party of Lincoln.

Up until recently—meaning most of the last 40 years while they held the presidency or while they were the majority party, and particularly while George W. Bush was in the White House and then for the first six months of 2008—they have acted like the party of Lincoln, and that’s not a compliment. That’s because Abraham Lincoln is not a model for a party claiming to be the party of smaller, limited government.

The real Lincoln—not the politically correct Lincoln taught in schools—was not a small government guy. Neither was he a friend of the Constitution or the slave.

As the historian Bruce Catton wrote in The Civil War, in 1860 Lincoln wanted to be the nominee of the Republican Party—a party that consisted of an amalgam of former members of the defunct Whig Party, free-soilers (those who believed all new territories should be slave-free), business leaders who wanted a central government that would protect industry and ordinary folk who wanted a homestead act that would provide free farms in the West.

Catton wrote, “The Republicans nominated Lincoln partly because he was considered less of an extremist than either (Senator William H.) Seward or (Salmon P.) Chase; he was moderate on the slavery question, and agreed that the Federal government lacked power to interfere with the peculiar institution in the states. The Republican platform, however, did represent a threat to Southern interests. It embodied the political and economic program of the North—upward revision of the tariff, free farms in the West, railroad subsidies, and all the rest.”

Does that sound like a small government guy?

Writing in his book, The Constitution in Exile, Judge Andrew P. Napolitano said, “Lincoln liked to think of himself as continuing the political philosophy of Henry Clay, who had been the leader of the Whigs.

“For forty years, Clay supported the creation of an American empire through measures such as corporate welfare, (which politicians like to call ‘internal improvements’); today we call them corporate tax breaks, protectionist tariffs, and a nationwide central bank. All the things that Clay favored in essence provided for a highly centralized government. And Lincoln supported them all.”

Not only did Lincoln support Clay’s policies he served as an elector for the Whig Party in the 1840 and 1844 presidential elections, according to historian Thomas J. DiLorenzo in his book, The Real Lincoln.

He eloquently defended specific Whig economic programs like a national bank, a protectionist tariff and distribution of Federal land revenues to the states to subsidize "internal improvements," writes DiLorenzo, quoting historian Michael F.  Holt.

During the Civil War the Federal government was rapidly centralized and enlarged, taxes were imposed on most manufactured goods, tariffs were increased and an inheritance (death) tax was adopted. It was during this period that the first personal income tax was adopted in direct violation of Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution, Napolitano writes.

“The most egregious violations of civil liberties that Lincoln committed were murdering civilians, declaring martial law, suspending habeas corpus, seizing vast amounts of private property without compensation (including railroads and telegraphs), conducting a war without the consent of Congress, imprisoning nearly thirty thousand Northern citizens without trial, shutting down several newspapers, and even deporting a congressman (Clement L. Vallandigham from Ohio) because he objected to the imposition of an income tax,” according to Napolitano.

Republican congressmen tampered with the Electoral College by creating the new states of Nevada, Kansas and West Virginia in order to ensure Lincoln’s re-election in 1864. In Maryland, under Lincoln’s orders, troops arrested and imprisoned without trial a mayor, a congressman and 31 state legislators. And Lincoln claimed to have taken these actions to “preserve” the union.

“It’s hard to imagine something more tyrannical than a central government that suppresses life, speech, and political expression with such drastic measures, Napolitano writes.

The party of Lincoln, and Lincoln himself, had as its main goal growing government. Only one other president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, did as much to destroy the U.S. Constitution as Lincoln.

During the last 40 years the party of Lincoln has done much more to grow government than reduce it. Both Presidents Richard M. Nixon and Gerald Ford expanded the Great Society programs of Lyndon Baines Johnson. In 1970 Nixon imposed wage and price controls throughout the economy, imposed a tax surcharge on all imports and removed the American dollar from the gold standard: hardly small government policies.

Nixon’s policies sparked a rise in oil prices and caused the Great Inflation of the 1970s, according to Charles R. Morris, writing in his book, The Trillion Dollar Meltdown.

Morris writes that Nixon was a Keynesian through and through, as were his supposedly conservative cabinet members.

President Ronald Reagan was a believer in limited government, and took steps to reduce its size. His tax cuts stimulated the economy, but Democrats controlled the House and he was vilified by them for his efforts to reduce domestic spending while he increased military spending. While he campaigned on balancing the budget he wasn’t able to accomplish it, and deficits soared.

President George H.W. Bush was elected to continue Reagan’s policies but despite his “Read my lips. No new taxes” pledge, Bush 41 was neither a small government guy nor a believer in Reagan’s low-tax policies or trickle down economics. He immediately joined the Democrats and raised taxes and grew government.

The second President Bush, George W. (compassionate conservative), was truly a big government socialist. He expanded the Federal reach into our children’s education with No Child Left Behind, along with Senator Edward Kennedy, expanded entitlement programs like the Medicare Drug benefit and embarked on a war strategy that helped push a teetering economy over the cliff.

More egregious than that was his USA PATRIOT Act—which among other things suspended habeas corpus—and other supposed terrorism fighting provisions that intrude on the liberty and privacy of Americans. And many Republicans claiming to be conservative went along.

“I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system,” Bush 43 said, in classic Bushism fashion, as he pushed his Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

The supposed conservatives in Congress sat by and watched—if they didn’t overtly support—as Bush trashed the free market system.

Only when Americans began berating them during town hall meetings and through Tea Party rallies in 2009 did some Republicans decide they were for smaller government.

Now many Americans are looking to the Republicans to stem the Marxist redistributionist tide of the Obama, Pelosi, Reid administration as they follow through with their promise to change America.

Seriously? You’re going to pin your hopes on the Republican Party, with members already backing off their “Repeal the Bill” stance less than a month after Obamacare was passed?

Sorry, but the elites in Washington long ago crossed the Rubicon. While the Democrats are leading the charge today, the Republicans have offered no more opposition than a Civil War picket line.

You can thank the party of Lincoln, and the “Great Emancipator” himself, for getting us to where we are today.

Mr Livingston is very unkind to the Republican Party as the Party of Lincoln. To be elected to power in a nation as diverse as America, the party must contain not only Rockefeller republicans, who favor big business and high tariffs, but it must also contain Goldwater republicans, who favor states rights and individual gun rights. At the same time, it must also contain good ole southern rednecks who favor just about everything in which the government is not involved, especially the absence of taxes. All of these segments of the republican party are conservative in their own way. If the party is to win, the diverse parts must find a way to get together to fight for the common good and to find a leader under whose banner they can fight. The big problem with the Republican Party today is that there is no leader who can bring together its diverse segments. There are times when some big governemt is essential in order to impliment even conservative programs and policies. Come now, Mr. Livingston, let’s be realistic. How could George W. Bush fight the War against Terrorism without some big goverment and the big government industrial complex behind it? How could Abraham Lincoln preserve the constitution without temporairly suspending parts of it. His enemies finally brought him down, but they were unable to do so until the War was won and the Union and the Constitution were preserved.

I want a Republican Party that can win elections and that can rule and impliment conservative principles and policies. To do this, we all (Rockefeller, Goldwater, and red necked Republicans) must put our shoulders to the plow and plod forward in unison toward the common goal.

      Dear Flynn,
You wrote: How could Abraham Lincoln preserve the constitution without temporairly suspending parts of it.

Do you not see the irony in that statement? When Lincoln “suspended” the constitution he destroyed it. He took away the right of the states to remove themselves from a Union that they joined voluntarily. He took away the only avenue states had of opposing the overreach of the Federal government. James Madison and Thomas Jefferson understood that the states retained the right of dissolution if the federal government tried to assume powers it did not have.

The Civil War and its aftermath resulted in almost 700,000 deaths and the ruination of the Southern economy. With Lincoln’s approval Gen. Sherman embarked on a war on civilians that resulted in the theft of $20 million from banks and private individuals and the destruction of $100 million in private property, just on his march to the sea.

As Judge Napolitano writes: “Lincoln replaced a voluntary association of states with a strong centralized government. The president and his party eagerly lifted the floodgates to the modern thuggish style of ruling that the U.S. government now employs. Lincoln increased the power of the federal government at the expense of the rights of states and civil liberties. This opened the door to more unconstitutional acts by the government in the 1900s through today.”

Sorry Flynn, you don’t preserve something by suspending it.

      Best wishes,
      Bob

You are so right, before Lincoln it was: The United States ARE … after Lincoln: The United States IS…

Lincoln provoked secession and gave us the War of Northern Aggression. FDR provoked Pearl Harbor and gave us WW II. Bush provoked 9/11 and gave us the War on Terror. All did their part to promote the growth of the cancer of big government. War is the health of the state, which is why George Washington advised “peaceful commerce with all nations, entangling alliances with none”.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        george,
Pray tell how did Bush provoke 9/11?? He wasn’t in long enough to provoke much of anything!!!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

George are you on crack? Bush provoked 9-11? Get real. Here is why it happened, just in case you want to know. They blew up the USS Cole, and Clinton did nothing. They blew up the basement of the World Trade Centers, Clinton did nothing. They drug our dead soldiers naked, beating them through the streets of Somalia. Clinton did nothing. Clinton cut our military and intelligence in halves and thirds. They came into this country, and set up shop during the last 6 to 7 years of his admin. They figured us to be soft, that we wouldnt ever retaliate, because we never did. So the pulled off 9-11, which was all planned and set up in the previous 7 years, right under Clintons nose, because he got rid of all the intelligence that would have caught these guys. And you say Bush? Gimme a break. Put your left wing liberal pacifist appeasing agenda away, and look at the truth please. Or does that scare you too much. Unbelieveable.

I have another comment. Politically, I am an Anarchist. Meaning I feel no need to be governed. Especially by a bunch of half witted shills. So you could say that I am about two steps to the right of Ron Paul. Things being as they are, it is impossible to completely avoid governments. We have City and town Governments County Governments and States Governments and Federal Governments. You can hardly take a crap without Government approval. You can’t fight with them, or argue with them and expect to win. Best to just ignore them as much as humanly possible.
If someone held a gun to my head and made me vote, I would have to vote for Ron Paul. He seems to at least have a grasp on reality. He also is the only one who understands the nature of Public Service.
Governments are supposed to serve the public. The people of the United States Incorporated, serve the Governments. All of them from the bottom to the top.
From where I stand it doesn’t make any difference what so ever to me who wins. I can ignore one as well as the other.

    • Meteorlady

But we have largely ignored them for years and look what we have? While I agree with what you say, most of it anyway, you can’t just keep you head in the sand until they come for everything you own and worked for.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

If you want anarchy, and to live like it was in the Mad Max movies, which was total anarchy, then move to the streets of Somalia or some other lawless area. I would never ever want to live like that.

  • BOOTumALL

We defintely do not need to split the conservative vote. Regardless of how far George W. Bush was from a true conservative, and during his presidency I was disgusted, Mr. Obama suddenly made him look like a John Bircher. WE need to hold their [the republicans] feet to the fire. I would like to invoke the second amendment here and say the second amendment to their heads! It would be nice if we could put a recall effort in place for every republican elected and as soon as they go off the reservation yankem. We have to work with what we have and make it better. To begin a third party is suicide and most likely promoted by the Libs as in Nevada. Running a (unindorsed by the TPP) candidate holding a TPP banner in the hopes of detracting enough votes from the republican candidate to maintain his senate seat. We cannot fall prey to this tactic.

    • Pathfinder

How about not letting republicans subtract votes from real conservatives? Seems to me that even when you get a republican into office they turn out to be socialists too.

      • DaveH

        So True.

  • Theophilus

Patronage is the problem, and by the look of it, in insoluable one. To get elected you need support. To get support you need to convince people that you will take care of their perceived needs. The single best way to make people believe that you are working for them is to throw money at them. The American addiction to turning government loose on domestic problems has become incurable.
For all of their faults and misdeeds at least the Republicans acknowledge the damage that big government causes whereas the Democrats seem oblivious to it.
Our value system has crumbled. Greed, selfishness, suspicion, and corruption are rampant. We suffer from a lack of knowledge of, and faith in, the guiding principles of government. We have allowed our schooled to undermine the spirit that propelled the patriots of 1776.
Only a massive uprising of self-sacrificing taxpayers could possibly turn this around. The men of 1776 risked fortune, honor, and their lives to birth a government under the heal of the people. Where are such patriots, and men of vision, today?
The worst is yet to come. The odds are very good that at least one, and possibly more, vacancies will occur on the Supreme Court. Once Emperor Obama gets to appoint his left leaning replacements then there will no hope of returning this country to the ideals of limited government.

  • Bruce Dunavin

Let’s get involved and vote out every incumbent politician who is not a true conservative. We can no longer afford to be the “silent majority”. Our entire congress is in cahoots with each other to pass laws that benefit third party interests who finance their campaigns and provide bribe money under the table. An honest person cannot survive in congress today. Our congress has become a cancer upon the soul of America. The only cure for this cancer is to stick together and vote them all out of office and start over.

  • Don Tremaine

I would like to know why so many people are constantly putting down Sarah Palin. She sounds like a Reaganite to me, and I believe he was one of the greatest presidents in our history.
    Don

    • Tazio2013

We, the enlightened, pragmatic, rational, secular Jeffersonian Libertarians constantly put Sarah Palin down because she is an ignorant, money-grubbing, war-mongering Fox Noise air-head personality and the female equivalent of Glenn Beck. Do US a favor, Don; stay stupid and continue with your present “Regan” belief system.

      • http://naver samurai

Tazio, could you do us all a favor a just shut up? Reagan was a greater president than “Osama” Obama will ever be. Reagan spoke out against nationalized health care and brought the values of service, honor, and duty to country to new heights. Obama has friend who have pictures taken of them standing on the American Flag. “Osama” is affraid of her because she is helping to get “We the People” mobilized to fight against this socialist regime we now have in office.

      • Don Tremaine

        Tazio2013,
I was not asking this question for a libtard to answer.
I was wondering why some conservatives are against her. I don’t want to hear any trash from the left.

      • Meteorlady

I’m pretty conservative and I like her, think she’s spunky, but she’s not my choice for a presidential candidate. She is a media darling to the “right” and a object of ridicule from the “left” (which only means they are afraid of her). Bottom line is she quit….. she quit her job representing the people of Alaska. I don’t much care what her “excuse” is, she quit. She ran off into the big world opened up by her VP run and she is making money! She quit…..

Would I vote for a woman? Yes I would vote for Condi Rice because she has the experience, and the guts to run for the office of President. Not sure whom else, though there are some good conservative women out there, they lack experience. I want someone with business experience that can get the country going again and has the USA as their number one priority. I want someone who will respect the constitution and the history and traditions of this once great country.

I want someone who will kick out the lobbyist. Reform campaign financing and get rid of most of the federal government in favor of state’s rights and governance.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        meteorlady,
she quit out of a sense of duty to the Alaskan people. She could not give them her full attention as they deserve and fight all the liberal lawsuits they had brought against ther. Which I might add, she beat got all of them dropped for no case except one minor misdemeanor!!!

      • DaveH

Sarah is campaigning for John McCain. Enough said.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        DaveH,
Maybe she feels he can’t win even if she does help him!!!! that way she gets his favor paid without hurting the people!!! I know I don’t think hes got a chance even with her help!!! I think he should just pick his place in the pasture!!!!

      • DaveH

        Joe,
I sure hope you’re right, but we have tried to get rid of McCain in the past and it has failed. I will keep my fingers crossed. By the way, I respect Sarah as a very good human being. I just don’t think she would reduce the size of Government.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

No. Truth is, you and the democrats are scared to death of her, because she actually is likeable, she actually got into office and served the people she was elected to serve, and she actually balanced her states budget, and that scares the hell out you all. How dare she do was she was elected to do. This is a foreign thing to you, and you dont understand it, so you reject and attack, and your attacks are all hot air, just attacks. False reports, the whole works. Shame on you and the libs for this. Then since it didnt work, well, then you all decide, lets drag the kid through the mud to get at her. Real nice. Shows what kind of people you are on the left.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I will vote for her in a heartbeat. Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Bobby Jindal, and there are many others that would make a good conservative ticket work. Problem is, just as in last election, for some reason the Republicans put all their efforts behind John McCain, a career politician that everyone wants to get rid of, and ran him for president. Dumb stupid decision. And he is a democrat in Republican clothes. I hope they use their head this next time. No one wants to elect a 150 year old guy that has been a politician since the beginning of time.

  • s c

For those who know history like Obummer knows economics (ignorant on steroids), America can’t afford to have a Republican approach to government. If that sounds strange, it’s becuse you a) don’t know much about history, b) the Republican Party doesn’t give a damn about its history c) people who specialize in revising history did an excellent job of dumbing-down America and d) Lincloln was a states’ rights-hating, big government, central banking neocon who was ‘ahead of his time.’
True, we do need another Emancipator, but this time around we need someone who to FREE America from the strangling chains imposed by central banks, income tax (and the Fed) and a system CORRUPTED by the direct election of senators.
America, wake up. Re-learn some of your history. You know what happened to the Democrats. If you don’t know what happened to the Republicans, you may deserve whatever happens. HOW MUCH do you want to be FREE?

    • http://?? Joe H.

      s c,
Reminds me of an old saying in a mechanics garage I used to go to. He had a sign on the wall that said Speed costs Money, how fast do you want to go??? The only difference here is Freedom costs work, how Free do you want to be??? We need to get out and work people. We need to make noise to make people hear us. when they go to the booth, we need to be fresh on their minds!!!! It starts at the primaries to get the conservatives in to the race then make the people remember their names!!!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

It is said that almost half the voter base sits home and doesnt vote, and they are the ones that complain about things the most. That is one thing the democrats are good at, mobilizing their voter base, well, that and getting dead people, illegal aliens and all kinds of people that cant vote, to somehow vote for them. Dont know how they do it, but they do it. Kennedy 1960.

  • Tazio2013

Another outstanding, truth-teller article by BL. Unless a “black swan” miracle occurs, the one-thousandth of one percent who are currently in command and control of the 99% plus rest of US will remain so until 01/20/17 when gold will be valued at more than $5,000 per ounce and the amero will be worth a peso. Remember; 90 % of US are sheeple and it will take the full 7 years for the few enlightened, pragmatic, rational, secular Jeffersonian Libertarians to neutralize the toxic effects of the many ignorant, dogmatic, irrational, judaeo-christian Republikrats. The good news is that the time from Now until 01/20/17 will be the single most exciting, dynamic and entrepreneural period in American history. Semper Fi!

  • JLW

Your article is certainly not appropriate at this particular time. All
efforts must be focused on removing radical liberals from office and the
    administration.

The only way that is going to happen, under current conditions, is to consolidate under the Republican party and concentrate on one thing,
    getting conservatives and moderates elected.

    • s c

Assuming that you are a conservative, you are in dire need of a history lesson, JLW. What we have now is closer to a mindless herd of neocon, Hollywood Republicans.
America’s current brand of Republicanism amounts to the ‘other’ side of a corrupt nickel. The flip side is closer to a mob of social rejects, anarchists and retards who will accept anything their party throws at them (especially if they use the proper terms, including ‘social justice,’ ‘bipartisan’ and ‘change.’
See what you need to see, JLW. What we usually see has been engineered in the hope that most of us won’t think twice about the septic tank CRAP we’re supposed to swallow.

We have already tried “consolidating under the republican party”. Bush #43 was in the white house and there were republican majorities in both the house and the senate. What did that get us? Even bigger spending increases than Bill Clinton’s administration. The democrats promise a bigger government and more socialist programs. The republicans promise us smaller, less intrusive government. BUT BOTH PARTIES GIVE US LARGER, MORE EXPENSIVE, AND MORE INTRUSIVE GOVERNMENT EVERY TIME. It is time for conservatives to stop wasting time, money, and effort on the republican branch of the socialist party. We need to form a real second party; not just an echo of democrats.

    • American Citizen

No moderates, they’re middle-of-the-roaders and stand for nothing.

I agree. Moderate means, Im a liberal but I dont want you to think that about me.

  • steve

Sadly, a 3rd party movement would only guarantee the worst of the evils; keeping the socialist Democrat party in power. The only answer is a true conservative takeover of the Republican party. And it better happen soon or the country as we have known it is doomed.

    • JeffH

steve, that and hopefully find some fresh conservative minds to replace the “old guard”.

    • DaveH

I have been hearing that same tired mantra for the 40 years of my voting life. If we vote for the lesser of two evils, we still get evil.
Of course, the Republican and Democrat leaders support you in your efforts to constrain a third party choice.

    • Meteorlady

The same tired politicians on BOTH sides thank you for your vote. You know…… if you keep doing the same thing over and over, why would you and expect a change?

  • http://charter howe

We went from gridlock to dangerous partisan poitics after the 2008 elections. The liberal Democrats have proved they cannot be trusted with being the majority party, so if we want to take our country back, we really need to vote them all out. There are a few good conservative democrats and republicans and keeping them on board would be to our advantage, but lets face it, we have been ignored by the people we voted into office and now they must pay in Nov 2010 and 2012. If the people in Calif do not vote Pelosi out and the people of Nevada don’t vote Reid out, we may as well grab the vaseline and bend over, because we will get the same result for two more years. There is no room for corruption in Congress or the Whitehouse and those of us that close a blind eye to this crap are enablers of a greater crime. I hope we can get past the “whats in it for me attitude” and start thinking about whats best for our country. These evil people see themselves as our saviors but they are in fact our masters and most get rich on the backs of their constituents. Its time for some new faces in Congress and the Whitehouse to carry our banner. I was in the military for 29 years and my ideology was simple, I was passionate about supporting the Constitution and our freedoms, so much so that I did not worry too much about my personal safety. I expect our leaders to have the guts to support our constitution and the welfare of WE THE PEOPLE and not just certain segments of society. They are essentially trampling the constitution by finding all the loopholes to push for big government. The majority party is not listening to the people and whats worse they are taking us off a cliff that smells of banana republic and their ideology has them locked into this insane idea that we can spend our way to prosperity.

“Trust no one over thirty” was your destructive bawl well now you’re over fifty and there’s no trust at all.
You children of the new age have transformed wrong to right your non-judgmental P.C. declares it’s wrong to fight.
But fight we must against a foe Satanic as can be, who’s emptied churches, filled the jails, it’s plain for all to see.
It is written in the Scriptures that children shall oppress, and if we tend to spare the rod, they’ll do it more, not less.
This honest observation proves the bibles words are true, read Second Timothy Chapter three, it is describing you.

Quote, “In the last days perilous times shall come, for men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, proud, boasters, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, false accusers, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. For of this sort are they that creep into houses of silly women, laden with sins and led away with diverse lusts, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” End quote.

I need to add a postscript to this rhyming expose’ you’ve had your revolution we see it more each day.
Of course you couldn’t know it but, God is using you, you’ve proved the truth of prophecy with all the things you do.

      Clive B,

Why do you feel it necessary to insert your tired old crusading evangelical christian crap into an otherwise intelligent discussion on an important secular socio-politico-economic topic? Can’t you find a fundamentalist evangelical christian extremist (acronym!) web site that is more appropriate on which to display your ignorance?

      • http://naver samurai

It’s called Freedom of Speech. I see you wrote Semper fi. If you were a Marine, you should know better than to bash someone’s beliefs and hinder their right of Free Speech.

      • Yandle

        Tazio2013;
You just illustrated why the USA is in the condition that it is in! YOU and people with your mind-set are the problem.

      • Pat

Yandle and Samurai, you are so right.

      • JeffH

Tazio2013 will continue to chant the words of a socialist. He is another, of many, trying desperatly to preserve his position at the government trough.

      • Dwestall

“important secular socio-politico-economic topic?” One of the biggest downfalls of this Nation is the downfall of Religion & National pride in our nation! Kids join gangs instead of the Lord. Politicians Lie, Cheat and Steal by omission because they have lost their souls. We need the Pledge of Allegiance and prayers back into school ASAP. This Nation is still 85% Christian. It’s about time the minorities start showing us some respect. We don’t stop their way of worshiping.

The same old guys that cry freedom of speech will blast you for this post. I however, being one whose eyes and ears have been opened by the Lord Jesus Christ when I accepted Him as my Savior and invited Him into my life, can recognize the Truth in the words you have written here. The farther away America moves from Him, the farther we sink, until one day He will totally remove his hand from us, and we will be delivered to a smaller weaker nation. One day, He will come in judgement of all of us, you and I, believer and non believer, friend and foe, and we will all bow down and give an account of ourselves to Him. I myself welcome that day, as that will be the day that all wrongs are made right, and there will be no more wars, no more pain and suffering, no more lying and politicking. Yes, I welcome that day, but until it comes, I will follow Him, and try to do what is right, not for myself, but for others around me. Too many of us live for ourselves and for what we want, and cant see right from wrong, and like I said, the more we move away from God, that gets more blury.

  • Get Smart

Yes, we need smaller government. The party doesn’t matter, because both parties have problems right now. I don’t buy in to Obama’s “Divide and Conquer” tactic. We must stick together to keep this country’s freedom. Europe is not even accepting our U.S. Dollar right now, or devaluing it 30 percent.

  • Larry Sigurdson

The Republican Party has its warts and I believe Mr. Livingston did an excellent job of pointing them out. Although I’m surprised he left the other big government GOP President, Teddy Roosevelt. On the other hand there are also other conservative Republican Presidents that served with honor and distinction, either shrinking or at least not growing government: William McKinley comes to mind, as does Calvin Cooledge and Dwight D. Eisenhower. History is what you make of it. You cite examples for whatever you want to prove, because the reality is there to support it.
If Mr. Livingston believes a new third party is going to elect a President, he has taken too much Ambien. We’ve been down the third party route and Ross Perot gave us Bill Clinton.
No, the Republican Party is the best vehicle to elect conservatives to Congress and the White House. Our job as citizens is to make sure good conservatives receive the party nomination. Politics is not a spectator sport. Politics demands involvement and hard work. We get the government we deserve. Good government comes from the involvement of thousands of good people in the election process.

    • Pathfinder

I don’t want a third party. I want a good second party. AND THR REPUBLICAN PARTY IS NOT IT. The republican party is not the best way to elect conservatives. The republican party IS THE BEST WAY TO FOOL CONSERVATIVES INTO VOTEING FOR SOCIALISTS.
That is why I want to see the RINO party wither and die. So that we may have a real second party; not just an echo of the democrats.

      • Larry Sigurdson

Like it or not, the reality is that we have a two party system. The choices are, A. Democrat, or B. Republican, if victory is your goal. One of these two parties will elect a candidate to every partisan office held in the United States. That’s the way it is. No amount of complaining or wishful thinking is going to change the election system.
What can be changed is the ideological and political make-up of the candidates being nominated and elected. That is something, that “we the people,” have control over if we wish to exercise our rights as citizens. Likewise, we citizens can assume control of the local Republican Central Committee. In large enough numbers, that will also impact the State GOP and the RNC, because local Central Committee officers are also state delegates. And, state delegates elect the national delegates to the RNC that write party platform.
All change starts at the local level and that is where we conservatives must focus our energy. Given concerted efforts at the local level, nationwide, we can effect a tremendous change in Republican politics. I am very optimistic that this is what we will see happen this November.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

The least we can do, in serving our country, is to vote out the anti-American democrats as soon as possible. When they are being run by a foreign anti-American in George Soros, its not a good thing.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        pathfinder,
If we let the republican party die, at what cost do we do it?? It could be many years before we get a second party strong enough to run successfully against the libs!!!! Could we survive say 16 years straight of what we have now???

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I dont think we can survive another 4 years of them. By then they will have all their safeguards put in place for them to announce their socialist dictatorship which they are dying for.

    • DaveH

We must be careful not to split the vote. If we do, we might get Republicans or Democrats. Some choice.
That “best vehicle” has been complicit in growing Government larger for the entire 60 years of my life. Sorry, but I vote for the Principled Party. The only Party with the huevos to shrink the size of Government. The Libertarian Party.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I would love to vote in something new like this Dave, I just dont see them having a chance, and no one even knows any candidates they would run. Maybe Ron Paul? Who knows. And that is the problem. Just as last year when the Republicans announced McCain, I knew it was all over. I knew we were screwed, and so did American business’s and everyone else. Im hoping to get better news this year. I do guarantee you, that if Sarah Palin announced she was running as an Independant, whether Libertarian or something else, my vote would go there. I truly believe that she believes in a strong America, where America comes first.

  • Aetherius

This sounds like an OVERLY biased liberal article. For sure EVERY president has their ‘conspiracies’ and ‘scandels’ but this arctile for some reason chose only to dig up this stuff on the GOP when were in a time now more dire than EVER. sure talk about Lincoln’s, the Bushs’ or anyone elses socialist agendas, but it is odd this has no mention of Obama. The biggest socialist joke in the histoy of our nation. FDR, a socialist liberal, was only briefly mentioned in this, and i dont know why, this guy who wrote this should have found some way to glorify him, AND Obama for that matter, it is obvious this guy really likes them. THEY are the real socialists. So BOTH major parties are corrupt and socialist beyond repair, what have we become in this country? and correct me if im wrong but why does no one ever mention the democrats have been in control of this country since the ’06 elections, WELL before the major declines, so I blame them, since this is a blame game.

    • Pathfinder

Of course this article singled out republicans. Conservatives already know that democrats are poison. It is time conservatives learned that the republican party is a waste of our time, efforts, votes, and campaign contributions.
If you are worried about splitting the conservative vote; the stop wasteing you votes on republicians. VOTE LIBERTARIAN !!

      • Pat

And so we will keep the current Progressives in office if we follow your advice. No way. Just be careful that the Republicans we vote for are Conservatives.

      • MikeC

        Pat,
There have been recent races where the 3rd party took the race or made strides to reduce the influence of the incumbent! Spread the word and vote Libertarian! The true party of the people.

      • DaveH

Only vote Libertarian if you believe in Individual Responsibility, Individual Liberty, Free Markets, and Limited Government. Otherwise continue to throw away your votes on controlling Democrats or controlling Republicans.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

If they want to talk corrupt, dirty, perverted, lying, cheating, no good for nothing, they need look no farther than Bill Clinton. The epitomized everything that a leader in charge should not be. We will be paying for decades for all the dirty dealings he did. The banks collapsing are just the beginning of what he did.

  • Richard Pawley

Wasn’t it Larry Sumner who said years ago, “barring a comet hitting the earth or an invasion by aliens, ‘it’ will happen…”? IT menaing the collapse of the dollar down the road a bit. Nothing is inevitable but if you stick your hand in fire it does not take a prophet to predict pain and suffering from the burn. Likewise continuing to spend money we can’t even borrow will result in the pain and suffering of several hundred percent inflation down the road a bit. This, I believe is already set in motion by all the spending of congress who have planned a Value Added Tax (copying the Europeans) for some time now. (We spend $215 million for every $100 million in taxes so taxes must be raised on every one and the most hidden tax of all has been inflation but it will not remain hidden much longer). CHANGE? Yes, it’s possible, but only if we can elect someone a president and congress untainted by the District of Corruption. We need new blood or non-politicians, and only if we replace every person who voted for the Marxist takeover of our medical system and that includes those who did not vote at all (unless they were in a hospital) will we have even a chance. Russian Think Tanks beleive that the USA will break up into five countries after congress finally destroys the dollar. I hope not but Americans need to vote in November like it’s the most important election of their lifetime because it could well be. The Tea Party looks better all the time.

    • Dwestall

The tea party is too disorganized to provide real change in 2010. They may be ready for 2012. I believe the only way to fix our National problem is to follow the Constitution and forcible remove the current government. It no longer works for or represents the people. A citizen uprising, a US Military takeover or some combination is needed! That’s going to be the only way to head off hyperinflation and the total collapse of our dollar. A thorough vetting of any replacement candidates (GoooH style) would need to be done before anyone could run for office. Socialist Communist need not apply! It might take 4-8 years to get back to a fully citizen run government with no militia/military oversight. The states need a good purging too.

      • JeffH

Most don’t understand what the Tea Party movement is. I think the harder one tries, the more one becomes confused. Read up on it.
        http://www.conservapedia.com/Tea_Party_Movement

      • Joe H.

        JeffH,
I understand them, I just wish they could lower their stand to run a candidate!!!!

      • http://Google Victoria Dwyer

What the hell are you smoking?

  • Laura

Ours is a two party system. I believe that to create a third party, a conservative party, would ensure the defeat of conservatism at the ballot boxes in November. Having said that, I believe we must work within the Republican Party and take it over, reform it, into a party that truly reflects the values we conservatives embrace: small government, personal liberty within the confines of the Constitution, minimal taxation, and pro-life.

The only way to get that done is to be engaged in the political process. Vet the candidates. Know their track records. Check out their character. And, if all that appears to support your values, then listen to their rhetoric. I believe that stopping with the high and mighty speeches is what has gotten us where we are today. We can’t afford to be lazy any longer. If we decide it’s too big a pain in the butt, that decision is to our national peril.

I have decided to support candidates that I find worthy. I will not send money to the RNC. And, if a candidate appears to be truly conservative by virtue of his/her track record, voting record, and character AND has an “I” or a “D” after his/her name, I’ll look at them very carefully. If they’re more conservative than the guy/gal with the “R” after their name, I’ll support the most conservative candidate. That’s how one holds their feet to the fire!

    • Rosemary

Laura, I agree everything you wrote except for the last paragraph. The problem with voting for any Democrat is their leadership. The only way to get something done in Congress is to get your bill actually passed. The Democrat leadership is bent on continuing the frightening leftward turn and will use all of its fearsome power to make sure those in its “stable” votes the party line. Look at Bart Stupak. While not a fan of his, he did fight the good fight against federal abortion funding, but in the end he had to bow to the assurances (or really non assurance fig leaves) given him by his leadership. He had to vote for the bill. He is a Democrat. Enough said.

    • John

Amen Laura! The only detriment is that it could adversely effect who the Speaker of the House might be. Principled conservatives will vote together – regardless of their party (unlike Stupak & co.). Our best opportunity is to retake the Republican party – supporting the party of Reagan, NOT LINCOLN! I believe each candidate MUST be vetted by us, and then vote for the one that most accurately represents where we each stand, however. (i.e. – NY 23 congressional)

      • American Citizen

I am a Conservative Independent who will never vote for a Democrat at the national level. Given their platform and leadership, as Rosemary said above, counts them out. I am at the moment torn as to whom I will vote for. Nevertheless, I will vote.

      • http://Americac2c usfrog

If you are for taking back the Republican party, go to http://www.freedomforce.us
There is a tsunami of citizens trying to do just that.

    • Meteorlady

You education is sadly lacking – here’s a link to our registered third parties. I stopped counting at 26 but you can read about each one.

Not knowing about any other parties is pretty telling, don’t you think? Seems the news media does not like to even mention them. Some of the states I have lived in I have seen them on the ballot, but for the most part Libertarians, Communists, and Socialists appeared on most ballots I cast while in Washington State.

    • Joe H.

      Laura,
I have only voted for two Democrats in my life. both were at the township level!!! I would never vote for one at national level and it has stood me in a some what good sted. while Bush Jr was a putz of sorts Reagan was good, Nixon was an ass who lied to the people daily about Vietnam. If I think the independent has a chance in 2012 I will try one then, but if I don’t see a lot of support I will go for a repub just to get rid of Obummer and work from there! We can not take a chance of getting Obummer back!!! Eight years of him will ruin this nation possibly to the point of no return!!!

  • home boy

what is it going to take for you people to realize man is not the answer. two reasons why 1, man is not perfect 2, satan is in control of this system. so you will win some battles but you will loose the war.

    • Rosemary

What’s that all about? No matter what has happened with the Democrats, it is not Satan who is in control, but those who would arrogate power to their own ends. We need to take control of our school system to teach real history to our children, educate ourselves as to the benefits of free markets, and restore an opportunity society so that people will look at government solutions with the suspicion they deserve. After all, isn’t government substituting someone else’s idea of what’s right for one’s own?

      • John

You are right Rosemary but what HB was trying to say is that SIN is the real problem – and he’s 100% correct! Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Ultimately, until we return to that axiom, anything we might seek to change will be short-lived.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

But homeboy is in error when he says satan is in control. No, God is in control. We just have the free will to accept what he has for us, and too many of us say no, then satan’s influence takes control.

    • jon e. g

home boy – you are so right but people don’t think like that anymore do they? We have taken God out of The Schools, The Courts, and now an effort is moving to take it off our currency. In Washington – most of who we are lead by are individuals who have their own individual adgenda and who have no fear of being ousted because they have the financial means to stay in power. Can someone tell me – What is the average tenure of a congressman? It has to be well over 12 -15 years. TERM LIMITS are the only way to turn this thing around. We will never see this on any ballot – these are the very people who passed healthcare and don’t have to accept it. These are the very poeple who gave themselves raises but continue to spend the dollars like there is no end.

If you ask me – Satan is alrady living- alive and well in Washington DC. Now – how do we get rid of him? They all have to go and we must START OVER.

The far right radicals in the Republican Party are trying to rid the party of moderates. They do not realize, that the majority of Republican moderates will vote against far right candidates, which has been displayed in recent elections. The rest of the country will also oppose them. Therefore, the result will be a victory for the dangerous Democratic radicals. If they intend to take over the Republican Party for good, they had better accept their responsibility for the Democrats remaining the Majority Party. It’s time the far right form their own party and let the Republican Party mend itself and gain it’s respect back. Bluntly, I tell the far right crazies to GET OUT and stop trying to take over the Tea Party group also. What’s wrong? Are they afraid to start their own party for fear of lacking enough support? Go for it and stop relying on established political parties for your image. You are failures.

    • Pathfinder

Here is one right wing radical that left your “moderate” republican party over 12 years ago. I have not forgotten your treatment of, then primary candidate, Alqan Keyes. Since that time I make no contributions to, nor do I vote for republicans. I am tired of being stabbed in the back by a party that wants my vote on election day but ignoresw me once in office. Both democrats and republicans are in the business of bigger government and more socialist programs. Therefore; I am glad to leave your party, as requested. Hopefully, conservatives will leave your socialist party altogether and stop wasting their votes on it. Perhaps then, we can have a true second party rather than a weak echo of the democrats.

      • Harold Olsen

TRUE conservatives DO need to start their own party. Moderates and liberals need not apply. We certainly can’t trust the Democans or the Republicrats.

    • John

Hmm, sounds like a Democrat in RINO clothing!

    • Geoffrey Hichborn

The Moderate Republicans already have a party: its called “the Democratic” one, making no pretense of allegiance to the magnificent writings that became out Constitution. I would seriously like those Moderate and liberal Republicans to leave the Party, and for the “Republican leadership” to stop kowtowing to them so pathetically. But it has simply become too frequent that the RINOs willingly abandon the GOP platform and mission of small, less intrusive government. I would have said that they often abandon their own principles, but watching them, it appears they have few to none, except as may gain them more personal power, control, and advancement. There are serious problems to deal with that stem from decades of sidestepping the Constitution, but few of those elected Republicans seem to recognize the Bill of Rights or their oath to defend it. The USA has very few of its original 10 Amendments, our Bill of Rights, to the Constitution intact, and the assault on all of them remains in full force from Republicans from Lincoln to Bush, from Clay, the Whig to McCain, the elite socialist. They have sold out the rule of law for entitlements and tort based transfer of wealth. And they are selling out all residents for “green” based “sustainability” which will come at great cost in time and money and additional servitude for all.

    • Robert

Believe me, the worse things get under these left wing communist radicals who currently own Washington, the better of a chance those right wing radicals, as you call them, will have at the polls.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Biggest mistake the Republicans ever made, was running John McCain for president. He was a democrat wearing Republican clothes. That is why he lost, the voter base wasnt mobilized.

  • http://donthaveone Beberoni

My basic complaint about them is that they failed to reign in spending as I expected them to do. There was much talk about balancing the budget and stopping the rediculous spending which escalated beyond control in the Clinton administration, and they didnt do it. However, having said that, and calling a spade a spade, giving credit where credit is due and pointing out inadequancies when they are there, I see it worse now under this present administration than ever. Having attacked the GOP for their spending programs, and then come in and in 8 months spend more than the Bush admin did in 8 years, kind of paints the picture of “we will do whatever we want”. Couple that with them ignoring what the majority of people wanted and back room dealing to ram this health care debacle down our throats, it is a much worse situation today. Im starting to think that DaveH has it correct in his pushing of the Libertarian Party, as something has to be done, as this same old same old isnt working for nobody but the politicians. And this left wing liberal stuff is just killing this country, making us laughing stocks to the world, and selling our childrens children’s future.

    • Pathfinder

It is, indeed, time to say, “To hades with both of the old, corrupt parties.” and VOTE LIBERTARIAN !!

      • Harold Olsen

In 2008 I almost did vote Libertarian, but ended up voting for RINO McCain just because he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. I wasted my vote. But never again!!

      • Give me a Break!

How do you know that your vote was wasted? McCain and Palin lost the election, but that doesn’t mean your vote was wasted. Anyone who voted for this Moron we have for a president was a wasted vote. I’m proud to say, I didn’t vote for him!

      • Frank

No Vote is a waste when you are well informed. I’ll bet 2010 will be the year of Voters.

      • George E

The only way Obama wins a second term is if we split our vote. If you’d rather that than say a McCain, then you might just as well vote for Obama and save your time complaining about how the socialist are taking over our country. They’re going to anyway, if we don’t get smart about solving this problem.

      • DaveH

That’s right. We must quit splitting our votes. Quit wasting your votes on the least evil candidates and start voting for the only Political Party with real Principles. Unlike Republicans or Democrats, the Libertarians believe it is your business what you do with your own bodies and property, as long as you don’t trespass on the bodies and property of others. Unlike Democrats, Libertarians believe that theft is wrong, whether it is committed by individuals or committed by Government. Unlike Republicans, Libertarians believe that murder is wrong (except in cases of self-defense), whether it is done by individuals or done by Government.

      • http://joeaeverson@hotmail.com Joe A. Everson

Unless you do a little research you waste your vote. When I discovered that neither Obama nor McCain were qualified for president, I laughed for 15 minutes. I hope someone else can see the humor.

Americans have been pretty much ignoring the Constitution for at least 30 years, but this takes the cake–two candidates for president who are both unqualified. Even if we wanted to vote for a qualified candidate, we would have no choice (other than Ron Paul.)

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Thank you. You are correct. Anyone that voted for this guy, now having seen what he has done, should be ashamed of themselves.

A vote cast by an informed voter is NOT WASTED no matter who or what party you vote for. That is media crap and it’s been said so much everyone started to believe it. It’s call propaganda.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

But the way I see it, and many others, that in regards to Obama, the media, and himself, never divulged anything about him, as to his qualifications, where he is from, where he is going, what his plans are, his relationships to people like Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers and Tony Rezko and many others. None of this was dug into by the left wing liberal media, and none of it was exposed to the voting public. So for someone to pull the lever next to his name and vote for him, they are not an informed voter as you state, because not knowing any of this stuff, would make people that voted for him uninformed.

    • clarkwv

If you would look up the national debt year by year you will find you claim to be a lie. Use real facts, not some thing some one dreamed up.

      • Meteorlady

Yes – Clinton did leave Bush with a deficit. Generally people also liked to claim that he actually left a surplus. Not true, in fact Clinton claimed a $360 billion reduction in the national debt between FY1998-FY2000, but there was really an increase of $281 billion. So in no year did the debt actually go down.

With the help of the Federal Reserves monetary policies, Clinton did almost eliminate the deficit but in 9/200 the deficit was $17.9 Billion. Clinton’s last budget, produced a deficit of $95.29 billion.

This can be verified on the US Treasuries website.

      • eyeswideopen

Meteorlady, you might be confusing the national debt with the deficit. http://www.dkosopedia.com/wiki/Data_on_National_Debt_by President

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Clinton was the master of smoke and mirrors, and telling all those slick willy lies, that people bought into what he was selling. It used to be that parents told kids, “Youll go to hell for lying”. Now, they say, “Youll end up in the Clinton cabinet for lying”.

      • Vicki

Since you seem to be the handler of “real facts” perhaps you would like to share them with us? Along with links to support your “facts”?

    • Yandle

Beberoni, The Libertarian Party? The party of ‘no morals’, ‘no God’, which is why we are in the condition we are in now here in the USA.

      • Frank

I am a Libertarian Candidate…where do you get your info! I definately have a God and Definately have principals…a Hell of alot more then the current crowd!!

      • Yandle

        Frank ,
Have you read the Libertarian Party Platform? Have you listened to Libertarian Party leaders? Are you in a dark corner with your ears and eyes closed? This country did not get in this condition over night. I have watched people vote for ‘candidates’ like you for over fifty years who say “I definately(your spelling) have a God” and “a Hell of alot(your spelling)” used in the same sentence…shows that you “Definately(your spelling again) have principals”.

      • DaveH

Have you read the Libertarian Platform, Yandle? Just in case, here it is:
        http://libertarianparty.org/platform

Where do you get that they are against religion? They just want freedom from other peoples idea of morality being forced through Big Government.
The Republicans are no less control freaks than are the Democrats.

      • Yandle

        DaveH,
If I had not read it, I would not have made a comment about it. I did not mention religion. I commented about God and morals. You and I have already shared comments about that so we need not take space here to repeat ourselves. I have not read any comments by Christians on these posts proposing morality being forced through Big Government. As for your question, I answered it in my comment that you replied to.

      • eyeswideopen

Dave, Ron Paul is endoring the force of morality by endorsing the John Birchers. You people claim to have a platform, where everyone will be equal, unless it concerns women or gays, or Dems, or minorities. Your platform doesn’t mean too much anymore, since Ron Paul is taking different stances that what is stated in your platform.

      • DaveH

As Usual, Eyes attacks with Lies. The Libertarian Party endorses Freedom for all people to live their lives as they choose as long as they don’t trespass on the bodies and legally acquired property of others. Libertarians don’t endorse Laws imposed by Government to favor one class of people over another.

Equality is not something that is forced by Government. When Government passes laws favoring one class of people or the other, that is Inequality. And people will never stop being people with all their attendant faults just because Government says they should. Just as you, Eyes, will never stop being the Board Harpy, just because I say you should. In fact, when Government tries to force acceptance of one class or another, it builds resentment and causes more hatred, not less.

And, People, please read up on Ron Paul yourselves. Don’t for a minute assume any honesty coming from EyesWideShut.

      • JeffH

DaveH, I’m sure you realize by now that the moment she see’s your name she comes unglued with envy. She’s so quick to create something negative, she concocts the actual lies in her twisted mind then believes it all to be true, most often without qualified referances or the “links to nowhere”. It’s amazing to me how someone can consistantly put their own delusional spin on something and expect that everyone will believe it. Oh well!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

I am a Christian, and I would look that way. What, just tell me now, what is so holy about the Democrats? You know, the guys that not only promote and stand behind murdering babies in their mothers womb, but that they also use our tax dollars to pay to murder them overseas now. What makes them so holy, that they promote one man sleeping with another man as if he was a woman, which God says in an abomination to him. So how can you slam the Libertarians, who do none of this, and leave the democrats a free pass? Just curious. I thought with the left getting a free pass and all, that maybe you work for ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN or MSNBC or something. Just checking.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Yandle, you have attacked DaveH, so let me qualify this. Dave and I have had constructive banter on these posts before. We dont not always disagree, but we never resort to name calling and attacking. Dave is a non-believer, and I am a Chistian. My beliefs do not make him color me in a certain way, and his non belief does not make me color him in a certain way. We are all made different by the God I know and love. Dave doesnt know Him, so should I treat him different and not accept his right to have thoughts and opinions on things? No, I think not. But these things you say about the Libertarian party, I myself have not seen, and I have been looking into them, as, unlike a person who votes democrat, as evidence by their voting of Obama, I choose to educate myself as to who the candidates are, where they are from, what they stand for, what their plan might be, and many other factions. If it doesnt closely match what I envision for this country and for what I stand for, then I wont vote for them. If all their agenda is hidden like Obama’s was, where nothing was ever, and I mean ever revealed about this guy, there is no way in God’s earth I am going to elect them to the highest office in the land. I will not be an uninformed voter, just because someone spent millions of dollars to appear on the brain sucker in my living room thousands of times saying change, change, change, Bush, Bush, Bush. No, I choose to get educated before I vote. That way I know what Im getting into. I know there are millions of people right now wishing they would have done this.

      • Yandle

        Beberoni,
I did not attack Dave, he attack me. I agree with most everything you comment on and knowing you to be a Christian, I questioned how you would support a party that is for hard drugs, sodomy, polygamy, and prostitution and I do not think you would. I did not say the Democrats and Republicans were right either.

      • Yandle

        Beberoni,
With all respect, Did I say that I was for the Democrats, No one is against murdering babies in the womb more than I am, I am not for promoting the sin of sodomy, polygamy, and prostitution as the Libertarians are. Do not imply that I said something that is not in my comments. Where did I say that Dave did not have his right to have thoughts and opinions on things? He attacked my comment not the other way around. Beberoni, in these comments, you are on the wrong side. I am a God fearing, solid conservative that is thankful we have a government with the Constitution that we have and I am trying to keep it that way. My principles are base on God’s Word, not some party or man’s opinion.

      • Meteorlady

What the heck is that tirade about? The Party of no morals? Have you some inside information that we don’t know about because if have in fact met and voted for some of their candidates. Let me assure you they are pretty much normal like most Americans.

      • Yandle

Meteorlady, When your TV is on, Listen and you will have the inside information. Libertarians devote whole TV programs pushing to get hard drugs to our children by legislation, sodomy, polygamy, prostitution, etc. That is morals and that is why nations fall. If we want freedom, we must have morals.

      • DaveH

We don’t push any such thing, Yandle. We merely don’t believe it is our business to save people from themselves. And we recognize the futility of trying to stop people from harming themselves. I would submit that we are actually more moral than the people you champion. We don’t kill innocent people in a quest to force our morality on others as do the Republicans (drug wars). We don’t abuse people in a quest to save them from themselves as do the Republicans (vice crimes). Don’t confuse Bullying people with Morality, Yandle.

      • Yandle

DaveH. You do not know what you are talking about, period. You are wrong on all points. I have read a watched Libertarians and what I have stated is correct. I have never Bullied anyone nor do Christians, BUT that is exactly what you are trying to do with your comment to me and it is not working. You are wasting your time and mine because YOU are dead wrong, DaveH.

      • DaveH

Oh, yeah, You have watched Libertarians. That proves you are right. Not. I have watched many religious hypocrits. Does that mean all religious people are hypocrits? Of course not. Your grasp of logic is weak.

      • Yandle

        DaveH,
And where do you get your political information if not by sight and sound, or do you get your information by taste, smell, or by touch? Maybe you have a sixth sense that the rest of us do not have. Why do you place so many links in these posts if you do not want people to use their sight? It sounds like you spend a lot of time watching the religious so that you may call them names as you have spend a lot of time on this post attacking the person instead of the subject just like on this post you have attacked eyeswideopen over and over. When I sit and watch a one hour TV program where Libertarians are pushing drugs, polygamy, and prostitution my logic is right on. You may use these posts to push Libertarians but you do not believe others should have freedom of speech to tell what Libertarians stand for.I stand for TRUTH.

      • JeffH

Yandle, you’re a little short sighted and obviously haven’t been around long enough to “see” both sides of this picture. Believe it, DaveH hasn’t waiverd from his beliefs since I’ve been here and anything he dishes out is well deserved. I’m not a Libertarian, Democrat or Republican and don’t always agree with his views. I’ve taken my fair share of critisizm and fully believe in giving it back twice as hard, often time to the point of excess. You must realize, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Oh, I’m not speaking for DaveH either, I know he is more than capable of speaking for himself.

      • DaveH

I attack religious people, Yandle? Show me an example of those attacks. First you manufacture accusations of Libertarians, then you manufacture accusations of me attacking religious people. Do you expect people on this board who know my comments to give you any credibility at all?

        You are given to Hyperbole.

      • Yandle

        JeffH,
So, You think I am a ‘ little short sighted’ because I stand for morals. I will believe God’s Word over man’s every time with no apologies. I am aware “DaveH hasn’t waiverd from his beliefs” nor do I intend waiver in my belief in God and His Word. You say I “obviously haven’t been around long enough to “see” both sides of this picture”, well Jeff, I have been watching “this picture” of this country going down for over a half century and will continue to stay informed if God be willing to give me life. As for what an atheist “dishes out is well deserved” I beg to differ with you.

      • Yandle

        DaveH,

I did not use the words “attack religious people”, I said “attacking the person instead of the subject” and this post testifies that you do just that, as here YOU attack me, I did not start this, YOU did. I did not “manufacture” any comment; I stated is simple fact, period.

      • libertytrain

Good grief – I can’t understand your constant need to attack people and attack you do. Not very Christian of you. Now you are focused on Dave – who is next – probably me but have at it.

      • Yandle

        Mr. Beberoni Sir,
With all respect, Did I say that I was for the Democrats? No one is against murdering babies in the womb more than I am, I am not for promoting the sin of sodomy, polygamy, and prostitution as the Libertarians are.

    • JeffH

The saddest part of it all is that not only did the American hater Soros and his type of “one world order” financiers buy the Democratic Party and the presidency, they also bought a lot of Republicans too.

Politics in America has become influenced not only by big dollars from lobbyists by big corporations and entities here, but by a more powerful elitist international conglomerate lust for greed and power. Power and greed are fueling political corruption. The attack on America is a two pronged attack on freedom and liberty. We the people have to take back the government before we can fight these elite international financiers desire to erode the world economy and Americas position as the leader of the free world.

      • eyeswideopen

Jeff, you and Soros need to get a hotel and just duke it out. He is no worse that the Republican big donors, who do the same manipulating of the masses. Get a gripe and realize that both parties have been purchased by the rich.

      • JeffH

Geez dummy, didn’t I just say some Repulicans have sold out also, or is that just too much for you to absorb? You might hate my Soros references and you might not believe that there is a higher power pushing Obama’s agenda to fully socialize America, but if you spent half as much time doing some honest research on the gut you might quit making stupid comments and being the board harpy and board hypocrit. You might even learn something.

      • DaveH

Wow, EyeWideShut must be drinking. She actually included the Democrats in her accusations. It’s about time.

      • JeffH

I almost had to read it twice, but knew I’d throw up, so I didn’t. You’ll notice that she couldn’t bring herself to outright say the word “Democrats” though.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Did you read his post at all, or just jump to conclusions. And Soros should be kicked out of this country, and all those, IN ALL PARTIES, that have accepted money from him, should be forced to go in front of an inquiry board to see what kind of underhanded dealings they have going on with this known anti-American.

    • TMacZ

What do you mean when you say we saw runaway spending with Clinton? In case you didn’t know it, when Clinton left office, there was a SURPLUS. It took Bush’s wreckless cowboy tactics to start the spending spiral.

      • Dwestall

Yea, some surplus. Gutted the military and raised taxes. Clinton’s tax increase coupled with Greenspan’s interest rate increases created the recession Bush inherited.

      • DaveH

Here we go again. Clinton just rode the coattails of the fiscally responsible Congressmen:
        http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=5656

      • Meteorlady

Yes – Clinton did leave Bush with a deficit. Generally people also liked to claim that he actually left a surplus. Not true, in fact Clinton claimed a $360 billion reduction in the national debt between FY1998-FY2000, but there was really an increase of $281 billion. So in no year did the debt actually go down.

This can be verified on the US Treasuries website.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

If you believe what the liberal media tells you. Truth is, he lied. He dipped into social security, he cut the military in half, he cut intelligency agencies in thirds, and did many, many things that we are still paying for today that need to be considered into the financial equations concerning this “Slick Willy” individual. The guy had the most tax increases in history under his admin. That brought in cash. You call that fair. You call that balancing? Gimme a break. The dude was an out and out crook. My gosh man, he even got caught stealing the furniture when he left and was forced to bring it back. He was white trash with money, no more.

  • Victoria DeLacy

While there is no doubt that costly mistakes have been made by RINOS in the past, the fact remains that we operate as a nation under a two-party system. While the lack of responsibility in some areas where fiscal restraint was called for and was not pursued under a few recent Republicans, there continue to be glaring differences between the parties. As soon as you shift to the social issues you find the DNC being the party of death (whether that’s about abortion or euthanasia or abomination “unions” posing as marriage)in sharp contrast to the Republican party being the party of life as well as of a strong national defense (something else whereby the Democrats fall flat to say the least!) – Republican governance, then, is still our greatest hope of restoring America to her foundations today and I can hardly wait to see the imminent shift to that rightward direction swiftly approaching this coming November election day. Lincoln did free the slaves if nothing else and to that extent he was indeed admirable. You failed to point out that we are known as the party of Lincoln AND REAGAN – Reagan was by far THE greatest President of our time (recall “Mr. Gorbachev. TAKE DOWN THAT WALL!)despite the failure during that administration in having begun the problem created by amnesty at that time. With a few tweaks here and there, another strong Reaganite Republican could help this nation back onto a much stronger path for our collective future – maythe shift back to the right begin this coming November as the electorate heads out in droves to vote Republican yet again!

    • John

      Amen!

    • Aaron

Sorry, lying Lincoln from Ole Kentucky (not honest Abe from Illinois–he could not even tell the truth about where he was born) freed NO SLAVE! It took an amendment to the constitution to free the slaves. He was not the president of the South and had no legal control over the Southern People.

      • Robert

Thank you Aaron. I got into an argument with a history teacher when I was in the 8th grade over that very same thing. We had a test and one of the questions on that test was “Who was president during the Civil War?” The question didn’t say which side and since nearly all of my family is from Louisiana I answered with Jefferson Davis. Davis was our president during the War for Southern Independence. Lincoln was no more our president during that era in history than Tojo or Hitler during WWII.

      • http://Google Victoria Dwyer

It’s people like you, who prefer festering old hatred rather than actually contributing to America’s future that scare the hell out of people like me.

      • Renee D

Not old hatred. Just the truth. We southrons are actually a different culture. The war was fought over money. The slave issue did not come into play until the 3rd year of the war. Look up the nullification movement before the war. These were the real issues. We have not been under constitutional law since the civil war. We are under commercial law thanks to Lincoln. The town I’m from was burnt to the ground. You can still see bullet holes in the sides of houses where I live now. We live with history every day and it wasn’t that long ago in the big scheme of things. Oh, and I don’t know anyone whose families held slaves. That was for rich people which most of us were not.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Im from the North, and I dont see what they say as being hate filled. I actually have often pondered, just how much better off this nation would be had the South won the war. I still believe slavery would have ended, and I also believe we wouldnt be suffering from political correctness these days. There is no way if the South won, that we would have lawyers representing caught terrorists, and having lawyers imprisoning our military guys for shooting at such terrorists. No, they would do the right thing, and militarily execute these terrorists, instead of releasing them so that they can re-organize and come back to try to kill us again, which they all do. They will also pin a medal on our soldiers for their valiant duty. Yes, I believe we would live in a much safer, much better United States of America had the south won.

      • eyeswideopen

Berb, Our Constitution demands that all persons have representation before the courts. Guess you are anti-American aren’t you, as you really don’t believe in the Constitution at all. Jesus needs to come soon before the radical Christian right gets any more power and does the entire world in with their hatred and violence towards others. Oh boy, it is very hard to listen to the diatribe the RWA’s put forth while proclaiming to follow Jesus’ word.

    • Frank

Go to a restaurant…open the menu….if there were only 2 choices would you stay? How about beer, SODA, burgers? Two choices OK? Why are we damning ourselves to only two choices? Do you not see that is a GUARANTEED recipie for disatster? If there are only two choices, both sides can easily work together!

If Americans want change then they need to break the monolopy. Once the monolopy is broken then America, the land of the Free Choice can truely be the Land of Freedom and retake their beloved Democrat & Republican parties. Until then they are willing hostages to a corporate influence.

    • DaveH

“the Republican party being the party of life”? Tell that to the Iraqis. Or tell it to the numerous victims of the futile drug wars:
      http://www.drugwarrant.com/articles/drug-war-victim/

Republicans are no less Big Government lovers than are the Democrats. They just have a different agenda to force down our throats.

      • JeffH

        So true…

      • VN Vet

Too much POT Dave, it’s fried yer friggen brain. I’ve come to the conclusion though that there are democrap operatives that infiltrate these blogs to encourage 3rd party voting, which is a surefire way to keep democraps in power in perpetuity.

      • http://Americac2c usfrog

Absolutely right. It’s political suicide. You want a multi-party system, move to Europe. The DNC will never be conservative. The only choice is to take over the Repubs and force them to do as we want. Check out Freedom Force.

      • DaveH

My Brain is fried and you keep advocating the same failed policies that got us where we are now?
        Einstein’s definition of insanity:
“Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

And notice Vet is using the same techniques of name-calling as do the Liberals who in lieu of facts must use manipulative tactics to win a debate. I think you are the plant, Vet.

      • coal miner

        DaveH,

You are quoting the same liberal again.

      • JC

The so called “war on drugs” has only increased crime. Funny though isn’t it, that BigPharma gets a pass with things that require a 5 minute warning on all the side efects it might have, up to and including death.
        Hypocrites!

      • DaveH

I agree JC. The drug warriors run around breaking into homes like Nazis to “protect” us. Yet we can’t watch TV without regularly being assaulted by one drug-promoting commercial or another.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

They have no intention of stopping drug flow. It is a billion dollar business fighting it. People on the borders and in the DEA are getting paid off way more than what they make stopping it, and they look the other way. As long as we have crooked lawyers running our politics, they will continue to be bought off with special interest monies, not only by drug dealers, but by all kinds of special interest groups, you know, like the unions, the environmentalist, GM,Chrysler, Oil companies, ACLU, and many others, mostly left wing organizations.

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Dave, I have looked into a third party choice, and its just not a strong enough one to win yet. Much more organizing is needed, and many more candidates need to be shown. To vote that way at this juncture, at least in my opinion, is to give assured victory to the democrats in the next election. Our country may not survive 4 more years of them, or it may start a revolution, which might be a good thing, I dont know. But I assure you the democrats will stay true to their party, as they cannot ever acknowledge any wrong their party does, and they will continue to support their anti American activity, as the libs are blind sheeples. But I am in weekly contact with soldiers stationed in Baghdad, and Iraq is a place today with much, much more freedom than they ever had. Yes, we have freed them. Yes, the muslim factions of Shite and Baath and Sunni and all the other ones, will forever be killing and blowing up each other, and it may all fall apart, but should we not at least give them a chance at freedom? I think so. So I dont know what you mean when you say “Ask the Iraqi’s, because the guys I talk to weekly, tell me over and over again, how the people still come up and thank them daily for freeing them. I sure hope your not believing what you see on our national news here, because they like to sensationalize any bad things that happen, not nearly as much now that Obama and his lefties are running things, but they sure did when Bush was in office. Liberal agenda. I may not like all the things the Republicans do, but I disagree with them growing government, and they pale in respect to the Democrats on this. The democrats grow social programs, gigantically expanding welfare, food stamps, unemployment, and all these things that people who dont want to work latch on to, and it keeps them dependant on the government. Most of the jobs they have so called created, are government jobs. Now they are going to hire thousands of IRS agents to make sure people are paying their forced health insurance, and to enforce the fines if they dont. We cannot afford them, and for me to vote independant at this point, would know doubt ensure them 4 more years, that I myself dont see as being something we can afford to give them.

  • Tom

    Yep…Its what I’ve been saying.
The GOP are like chameleons, they are for whichever way the wind is blowing.

People get too hung up on the GOP’s platform of low taxes, smaller government.

Again, judge a man not by his words, but by his actions. The GOP’s actions show, dispite what their campaign time platform calls for, that they are in fact in favor of expanded government, overspending, {Borrow, and spend} and limited rights of the individual.

I see these clowns on some cable news show, trying to determine who will be the GOP’s best frontrunner for 2012. They kept mentioning Jeb Bush.

Who in their right mind, would want that guy in the White House? Every Bush presides over a depressed economy, blown budgets, and new wars. I don’t think America can withstand another Bush presidency. Thats if we survive the Obama Administration.

    Forget Jeb Bush.

Look outside the GOP, as the GOP has shown us all, they are not worthy of your vote.
Some say support of third party candidates divides the conservative vote, the Ross Perot factor, and will enable the Democrats to win.

Well we lose either way, so supporting third party people at least gives America a chance, and if nothing else, slaps down the GOP, and might just get them to reform. Supporting the GOP only sends them a message that their abuses will be tolerated.

If we want to reform Washington, look outside the 2 major parties.

    Dump Dodd!

    Tom

    • George E

If third party folks (Conservatives, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, etc.) aren’t strong enough to capture the Republican Party and make it into what they want, how in the world will they ever be strong enough to do anything more than splitting the vote and ensuring continuation of socialist policies being peddled by the Democratic Party? This logic leads me to conclude that a third party is NOT the practical solution for getting where we want to go. None of the alternatives offer an easy solution to our problem, but reclaiming the Republican Party is the best answer. You may note that the socialists didn’t create a third party to get in power. They claimed dominance over the Democratic Party because they could see that was the fastest way of getting to the top. Think about this issue from a practical point of view.

The Dems have been a socialist leaning party for many many years. The real truth is the right left paradigm only keeps us going back and forth and there is very little difference, if any, between parties. You can see this by watching what Obama has done. He is not only following Bushes policies but expanding on them. No difference. The thought of trying to resurect the Republican party and disregarding the possibility of building a new Costitutional minded party will not change anything. As a matter of fact, when Ross Perot was running the word out from both parties was that we would be splitting the vote so the Dems would vote Dem and the Repubs would vote repubs. You see…no change. Anyone that thinks that a third party can’t win is right!!! If they don’t vote for alternative candidates, nothing will change and we will be sitting around for the next several elections with statis Quo. Personally, I will no longer vote for any Dem or Repub. If that is a waste of my vote, so be it. At least the powers that be will know that I am completely opposed to their marxist agenda. Just saying.

    • http://donthaveone Beberoni

Problem is, the democrats are going to stay united, and vote for their guys only, because they are so blind they dont see the destruction of this country that these guys are pulling off right under all of our eyes. If Republican voters seek to “punish” their party by some voting for the Independants, this will insure another Democrat victory, and Im sorry Tom, but brother, we cannot afford another 4 years of these guys. We may be declared a muslim nation by then and have Arabic language being taught here replacing Spanish. I would fully agree the same old same old isnt working, and that the Republicans need to get back to their true conservative base, but until the Independants produce some top quality individuals that can rally a large enough voting base to actually win, this for now just guarantee’s a left wing liberal win, and we cannot afford that now.

  • Enlightened one

Today’s Republican party is more like the Party of ” Larry , Moe and Curley”…..

    • Tom

      LOL! So right you are!

    • Nancy Booth

      Dear Mr. Livingston,

How can we return to small government? Given the history of Lincoln and the Republicans, where and how can those that want smaller government make a difference. I have attended a coupled of Tea Party rallies and find the people at those rallies were like myself….non-activist….til now….not racists like it has been reported. They are thoughtful, voters and very very concerned about where the United States of America is headed.

      • Harold Olsen

We need to abandon the Democrats AND the Republicans and perhaps look at supporting the Libertarian or the Constitution parties. Maybe then we’d be able to cut the size of our bloated government who does nothing but raise our taxes and then waste the money on programs that do not work and give themselves outlandish pay raises for doing nothing but destroy our country.

      • Jimmy G

Cutting the size of government will take time (years) and effort on everyones part who is not a politician or employed by some form of government. Run at the local level first. Remember how we got the Clintons.

      • Robert says

The best answer for all, is for each state to leave the “union”
better known as Washington D.C. Leaving D.C. to form it own country
within Washington D.C.’s own borders.and the states start over again with the same original Constitution of the past. and forming a third party in witch each state has one member of each party to represent that state, that way no one party holds a majority. Each law must be voted on by the people as a whole and the constitution must be up held and anyone in office not up holding it shall be romoved right then an there.

      • Meteorlady

Love your idea! The States would be in competition with each other for people. If I wanted to be liberal I would live in MASS. or California, etc. They could compete for educated people by providing great schools and colleges. But then when one state gets to be too successful the liberals aren’t generating enough money, they will start creeping in and taking over again. You would need a constitution cast in stone for those type of things or we end up as we are today.

        Everyone wants Ice Cream…..

      • Robert says

No one party rules in this case. We will still be United States of
America only without D.C., It never was a state anyway, they signed
for the loans let them pay’em back. We have to start some where.

      • http://verizon kbab

        Seriously, love your idea.

      • Howard Hodges

Been there done that. I’m a FMR libertarian of 15 years and we never made any progress as a viable alternative vs the R&D with a chance to be anything other than a spoiler in races wanted by the D&R, the constitutionalists are virtualy non-existant in my state but the problem is the R, L, and C are all fragments of the R and are used by the D to secure there socialist dictatorship by promoting the splits. The solution is for us all to get into the R as I did and change the R since third parties cannot win in our system and only cause the party you like least to win. We are not a parlement. So this fall fire them all and vote against the D if the R does’nt change then get rid of them again but the incumbent is mostly D so vote R…Or…get used to Mr. Obama the D and slavery.

      • denniso

You’re right, third parties can’t win in our system…so,if the ‘conservatives’ don’t stick w/ the Repubs, where do they go? The tea party?? Funny.
If ‘conservatives’ don’t want to claim Lincoln,we will…he was flawed, like all men,but nevertheless a great man.
If the ‘conservatives’ want to claim Palin,Gingrich,Limbaugh, instead, that’s fine w/ the sane people…go ahead and cut your own throats politically.

      • Marshall

I am proud to be from the south and don’t have a darn thing for Lincoln good rittens to him and several more,I wasn’t born yet all I know is they stole a lot of my familys land.I usually vote Republican unless there a so called moderate Republicon which means there scared to tell that there a Democrat at heart. If you are for Abortion,Gun controal, anti Christ,Anti Constitution, love open borders, and samesex partners,or Vote with the democrats in making the last Justice appointment like a republican from TN.did you lost my vote.I would rather vote for someone that at least will tell the truth about what they stand fore.I’m 100% Conservative,Christian,Pro-life,pro-gun,American Patriot and sick of this Comunist Reseigm in Washington.

Marshall, Either you’re a liberal plant, or a product of the public school system. (A distinction without a difference?) No offense, but: Please, please, please – use the “Spell Check” capabilities that are embedded in your word processing application. The “LibTards”, as some call them, love to ridicule any grammatical and/or spelling mistakes they may perceive in a post unappreciative of their great visions for the rest of us. After all, they do know better than we do what’s good for us.

      • Meteorlady

Hey he got his point across, so it’s not all bad and I agree.

      • Joel Kruskie

Myron, try to look at his “poor spelling” as “creative spelling” as I, at times suffer from the same affliction. The intent of point I think was well made if not passionate.

      • California70

I agree. The man made his point. My spelling suffers at times also, as I type fast and make typo errors too.

So if the Libs don’t like it…who the heck cares? Why de we have to “nit-pick”. We are all only trying to make a point here.

      • California70

Let the man alone, he made his point. My spelling suffers at times also, as I type fast and also make typo errors.

So if the Libs don’t like it…TOO-BAD, who the heck cares?

Why do we have to “nit-pick”. We are all just trying to make a point here.

      • http://Google Victoria Dwyer

Marshall… I don’t believe for a minute man that you’re a true conservative. We are jest knot thes stupd!

      • Joe H.

        Victoria D,
I now believe you are a lib!! They are the ones that demand college education. Not all people that have trouble with spelling are stupid!!! Some people have PHDs and ARE stupid!!! Educated fools they’re called!!!

      • California70

        I call ‘em “EDUCATED DERELICTS”!

      • Robert says

If you are looking for someone to tell the truth, don’t vote for a damn lawyer. Vote for a person who’s gone through the university of hard knocks.

      • Joel Kruskie

I’m up for that Robert and I have the history to prove it!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

And that my friend, is the true problem with politicians. They are almost always lawyers, you know, the same guys that have prostituted our legal system to where it doesnt work anymore. The same guys that attack the innocent and free the guilty. The same guys that want to give lawyers to terrorists caught trying to kill us, yet imprison our guys for shooting them. They are the biggest liars, the biggest cheats, and the most immoral segment of America, and we let them become our political leaders. No wonder things are such a mess. We are led by the immoral, unscrupulous, greediest windbags on the face of the earth.

      • Shane

You’re from the south Marshall…never could have guessed that. I can’t wait until they build schools down there. When you were listing the things you support you forgot to include longer hunting seasons and more Nascar coverage in the ‘liberal’ media because I KNOW you love hunting and driving cars in a big circle. Myron, you’re correct, we do have great visions for you people, like a high school education in Marshall’s case. Is that really asking for a lot? To anyone who is defending the Tea Parties as representative of American people, you’re as crazy as they are.

      • libertytrain

How funny – all the Shane-named boys I’ve ever known were Southern-grown boys.

      • California70

        To Shane:

You are really sarcastic! Can’t you just manage to state your disagreement with the rhetoric without sarcasism? Oh! you must be one of those lawyers that have been ruining our political system.

      • David Long

Government, local, state, national, will ALWAYS grow as the population grows. The issue is not big government versus little government. The issue is reasonable (responsible) versus unreasonable (irresponsible)growth.

      • Bob C.

So Gov’t growth is tied to the population growth. Boy do you need a history lesson.

No my friend when you rob Peter to pay Paul you can always count on Paul to show up at the voting booth. Gov’t programs by design are a tool to buy votes with taxpayer money.

      • ChuckL

Sorry Bob, but I believe that you have tied government size to the wrong indicator. It is not the size of the population that determines the size of the government, but the amount of control that the government tries to exert in areas where the government rightfully has no concerns.

Our Constitutional Republic is designed to have a Federal Government to perform the necessary duties that the individual states can not do for themselves. These include national defense, and foreign affairs, prevention of any state from infringing upon the “God given Rights” enumerated in the Constitution, specifically including but not restricted to the “Bill of Rights”. (Please note that these “God given Rights” are given to everyone and no one is excluded, not even atheists.)

The Federal government may NOT give special rights to any identifiable group of persons, but must make certain that no single group of persons is excluded from protection.

The Constitution does not create any “Separation of Church and state.” It does prevent the state, any of them federal or local from making a ruling of law when the subject matter is religious.

I urge you to obtain a copy of the Constitution and a dictionary, the older the better, and using both, study the Constitution.

We have many laws and entitlements that congress has passed and the president has signed that are not authorized by the Constitution for enactment by the federal government. A return to Constitutionality requires that these laws be repealed. This must be done in the cases of “entitlements” upon which many people now rely (have been entrapped into) so that the repeal does not create hardships. The largest of these in terms of age is the “Social (in)Security Retirement” fund. Fortunately this is the easiest to fix without hardship. It must be means tested, Then IRAs must be unlimited to allow contributions equal to the maximum FICA tax and granted protection from judgments equal to those of SS. I am certain that other equally acceptable accommodations can be made for other entitlements with a reasonable amount of thought and returning operation of these entitlements to the states, where they are Constitutional.

      • Meteorlady

Thanks for your well thought out comment. Nice to know these things and informative. Not the usual bickering, hysterical, and one-ups-manship that sometimes occurs on this site.

      • Joe H.

        David Long,
Let’s say you are right. what are you going to do when government gets so big that the population can’t support it??? At the rate government wages are going up, that won’t take too long!!!!

      • http://donthaveone Beberoni

And when the government gets itself big enough to give you everything, they are also big enough to take away everything.

      • http://Google Victoria Dwyer

The best thing to do is to get really informed. Do your own research. Look for people who “source” their facts. This link is from a well known conservative:

Nancy check out goooh dot com and see how we can take back the USA and constitution. It does no good to think if we switch from Rebublican to Democrat and then think switch back again in the next four years will do any good. Both parties are for their own political careers. That is why we need check out GOOOH and become a patriot willing to use our vote as our sword to get back to our founding fathers constitution.

      • http://cantonrep Rep.

Nancy is right! They are hard working folks! Are the Black folks there brecause Obama’s half white! Racism is far from the trusty! Their the voice of the American people! NOVEMBER IS GOING TO BE FUN!!!

    • Jim H.

E.O., Whats your solution then? Barak MOEbama, LARRY Ried, and Nancy CURLYlosi?

    • John

You hit the nail on the head Bob! Obama said back during the ’08 campaign that Lincoln was one of his mentors. A third party is not the answer though, true conservatives need to take over the Republican party and use the already existing machinery to oust ALL that do not adhere to the Constitution! The people are the means! Upon doing so, among the first things that need to be done is to distance ourselves from Lincoln – right after we finish ousting RINO’s and Liberal/Socialist Democrats!

      • clarkwv

John, you must define what a “true conservative” believes. Would that be the ideas of say Barry Goldwater or what?

      • Dr. Mabuse

You hit the nail on the head Clark. Barry Goldwater was the last real conservative the Republicans had. It was a shame he was castigated and pilloried by the powers that be after the assassination of JFK.
The military-industrial complex threw their full support behind LBJ to secure the continuation of the Vietnam war, and the admonitions in regards to big government/shadow government that Goldwater had warned us against were largelt ignored.

      • Meteorlady

Goldwater was a truly honest and straightforward man. He campaigned that way and I think he scared people because he was so honest. He absolutely scared the mainstream media – they crucified him in the news as a hardline nutcase. The American people were not ready for the truth and wouldn’t believe it anyway, and as it turns out he was pretty much dead on. Sort of like the liberal/socialist left today, they believe the swill they have been fed in school, through the news and on TV and it’s become their “normal”.

      • eyeswideopen

Dr, are you also going to admit that his daughter got an abortion, because it wasn’t convenient as she and her fiance were still in college? His wife helped start the first planned parenthood in their state. Somehow that doesn’t seem as though he was practicing conservatism as we know it today.

      • Frank

With the current state of both parties we need a Third party to break the back of both parties. Both the DNC & RNC are so layered with Corporate interests if you think your going to get all good candidates from the ground up = Dream on! These guys have spent billions weaving their people into the process and recruiting candidates that will be skilled enough to tell both sides what they want to hear while maintaining their allegience to the corporate elites.
I dont like it any more then anyone, but this is EXACTLY the time for a third party. Regardless of the theories and examples of the past, if the American people want to take back America this is the only way. Proof = Scott Brown.

      • http://myronjpoltroonian.blogspot.com Myron J. Poltroonian

Frank: Better check on what Scott Brown believes in and how he’s voted in the past, before you “Put all your eggs in one basket”. To me, he was merely a tool to break the Kennedy strangle hold on Massachusetts politics. A precedent setter, if you will. If we ever are foolish enough to form a third party (remember ol’ “H” Ross Perot?), we should call it the “American Party”. Our motto? “I’m an American”. (Think of the “I’m the NRA”, “I’m The Army”, etc. identity/advertising slogans.) i.e.: Whenever, asked or not, speaking in (or writing to, the) public, as either a candidate or ordinary citizen, one could always begin with: “I’m an American”. That would really get the “Progressive’s’ goat. And by that, I mean the media’s as well. They of course, would have to respond with incessant derogatory commentary which would only serve to further galvanize the overwhelming majority of America’s right of center and conservative leaning voters, Republican, Democrat and Independent. “How Sweet It Is”, to quote Jackie Gleason.

      • Meteorlady

You know here we are on the internet conversing. We probably read stories and soak up what we can find. It’s a powerful medium we have here. Why do you think the government is talking regulating it?

If we really wanted to we could reach millions through email. We could run a candidate for write-in over the internet. We don’t need a lot of money, just time. Pick a person, start the campaign emails. That would scare the crap out of all those elite adults who rule us presently.

      • http://cantonrep Rep.

OLD ROSS PEROT WAS 100% RIGHT WHEN HE SAID YOU’LL HEAR A GIANT SUCKING SOUND OF OUR JOBS GOING SOUTH WHEN CLINTON SIGNED IN NAFTA! THAT’S WHAT’S WRONG TODAY! IF EVERYONE WAS WORKING THEN WE WOULDN’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HEALTHCARE!!!

      • naturalist

Don’t put your faith and trust in Scott Brown. He is “McCain-lite”, with us 50% of the time , at best. He lied about abortion, taxes, and the size of government. He does seem to be pro-gun, but I won’t trust him. We will have a better candidate against him here in Taxachusetts in 2012. But watch the mainstream media and Republican fools minimalize the good candidate.

    • Sue Overton

Let’s have “term limits” for Congressmen and Senators and then government will be “for the people” and not for those governing.

      • George Halepis

Term limits are not the answer. The people can elect anyone at anytime, which is why the Founders were opposed to term limits. Would you term limit Ron Paul? I think not. The problem is that the ruling elite control both major parties, coupled with the apparent desire of the majority of the American people for cradle-to-grave security.

      • David Long

The Founding Fathers were opposed to term limits. Please see the Federalist Papers.

      • Smilee

If the founding fathers had wanted term limits they would have put it in the constitution, they did not and the Federalist papers do not trump the constitution so they mean nothing

      • Dena

The Federalist Papers are as legal and binding as the Constitution itself and the Declaration of Independence. The Papers were detailed explanations of the Constitution and used to ratify said Constitution to gain support of it by the States. The Papers and the Master document, Constitution, are as one and the same. WE THE PEOPLE have a written duty to abolish any form of Government that is destructive to our rights and liberties, but for too long, the people have been complacent, fearful of the government while retaining an inferior mentality to assert our authority, the ultimate authority and power over all governments, which is also a written guarantee by our founders. The people may legally abolish such form of government as we have today and revoke the authorities, powers, positions and titles of all in public offices who’ve violated and abridged the Constitutional laws that swore to protect and uphold. The PEOPLE’S DECLARATION OF ABOLISHMENT has been written, is legal and binding, and is an order by, of and for the people against the destructive form of government that is in tyranny, absolute despotism and which has been turned into a socialistic totalitarian machine of corruption. There will be a national public reading of this Declaratin, which the people must show support in its adoption. Read the 1st 2 paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence.

      • Meteorlady

        Dena- thank you. Nice post.

      • Smilee

The constitution is law the rest are not despite your spin on it, the other documents are good reference but are not part of the supreme law (the Constitution) or laws by congress under the constitution. You may wish it the way you describe it but you are WRONG IN YOUR CONCLUSIONS!!

In response to coal miner, if your thing is set up like a union is, no thanks. I worked in them 13 years, and they are a bad thing for this country. The corruption is rampant. Its like politics. Those at the top spend money like drunken sailors, while collecting it from the sheeple. They take vacations to the Bahama’s with money that was to be re-distributed back to the workers. They pretty much force folks to vote for one certain un-named party that they are in bed with. The work place should not dictate politics to their workers. Ive seen the companies I worked for in the unions lose thousands of dollars a day, because they couldnt fire worthless workers, because of the unions. Im sorry if you disagree, but this is wrong, and detrimental to the companies in America. Between the greedy corporates and the lazy “Im in union” attitude of workers at our automobile plants, is it any wonder to anyone why they were sinking? Come on man, Ive been there and lived it. Its not good. Maybe your coal miner union is, and good for you. But I worked in one plant where there were five unions, the teamsters, the laborers union, IBEW, Machinists and Aerospace Union and the Engineers Union. What a joke it was. I also worked at a place with the graphic communications union. Out of all of these, the only union worth a nickel was the laborers union, who actually did a fine, fine job. They didnt protect buttheads. If a guy was screwing up, they would ask the other guys what the deal was, and if the guys said yes, he is a screw up, they wouldnt stand behind the loser. Not so with all the other ones. Its wrong.

      • California70

The trouble with term limits is these politicians just keep hiring each other in other jobs and committees and they still have a lot of power behind the scenes. This has become a “family business”. The family business needs to be stopped cold.

      • Char

You will only have term limits if the people ban together at the ballot box and vote them out.

      • http://cantonrep Rep.

You are so right! I didn’t care till this last year! Let’s just say that being unemployed for almost a year has shown me the light! I registered to vote and am awaiting the next step! Beb,

Scab factories do the same thing. You ever heard the word favoritism? When the mining company was changing location, I took a temporary job at a local factory. The boss I work for had his favorites. There was one character that was constantly missing and sometimes didn’t bother calling in.He was about the sorriest son of bitch I ever knew,he had the nick name Sh**t house Bill.He was in the restroom biggest part of the time, smoking and taking cat naps. The others had to pick up his work load.He was very good at butt kissing and ratting on his co workers. He also quit with out giving notice. There was one employee who actually called in and was off three days, his car broke down.He was fired. Why didn’t he fire Bill Nunnely? What is fair for goose is also fair for the gander. We got no goods in union as well as non union places.Like I said;take a good look at the scab coal mining company in West Virginia, twenty five lives were lost. There were 450 violations and look at the frightful cost. For the past three years they have being complaining to the governor about the working and safety conditions. The scab conserative governor ignored them. All he now gives is condolences. You got to have a strong union work force and make sure this doesn’t happen again.People should look into IWW,the union of the future.PEOPLE COMES FIRST!

Coal miner, very sad day. Greed is killing this country.

      • BobD

I am tired of hearing how the Founders did not want term limits. NO KIDDING! This government has been overrun by corporations and special interest groups – particularly the banking establishment. The limits and constraints initially imposed by the Constitution have been ignored and are effectively nullified. Term Limits are now a necessity until special interests groups are barred from contributing to politicians and parties; and the hideous 16th & 17th Amendments are repealed.

However, I think we a have a better chance of seeing Moses part the Red Sea again before we ever see politicians agree to limit their stay in Washington, D.C. – “District of Corruption.”

      • DaveH

Imagine if term limits were in place right now. The Democrats would run wild with nothing to lose. Term limits are sweet sounding but ineffectual. The only workable solution is to educate the voters in reality.

I want the old Republican party back. Today’s Republicans would not welcome Goldwater or Reagan into the party. Are you kidding me?

Interesting, the party of debt, great recession, illegal war, illegal wiretapping, the rich, strip clubs, sex-scandal, “religion and family values”, blowhards like Limbaugh, Beck, Hanity, and Rove, and “hell no you can’t” wants my vote? Good luck.

      • Meteorlady

Thank you David Long for contributing to the discussion. It was most enlightening. See a good example of constructive discussion in Dana’s post for an example. There are a couple of others that are pretty good also. Read and learn.

But as much as they have fallen away from Reaganism, they are still standing on much higher ground than the left wing liberals led by the Obamination that are weakening this country daily. Now he wants to tell all the other countries, that we are going to dump our nuclear defenses, while all of them are actively building more and pursuing them, with eventual intent to use them on us. I assure you, we are much worse off with these lepers in charge now. They dont care about America.

Meteorlady, sorry to inform you, but I just got back into town, from a religious retreat for Easter. I always use my own name, and feel no need to hide my idenity from anyone. I don’t comprise my integrity for anyone certainly not for RWA’s.

A little off topic, but here’s a link to Michelle Obama saying that Barack was visiting his homeland…Kenya.

Be that as it may, the dems of today are more like the keystone cops. Running around like ants except in that they accomplish nothing good!!

It would seem both parties of our government had to collateralize our debt somehow, and they hit upon the plan of quietly setting aside huge tracts of American land with their mineral rights in reserve to cover the outstanding debts. But the government couldn’t very well admit that they were apportioning off chunks of the United States to the holders of foreign debt. So, they invented the Environmental Protection Agency and passed draconian environmental laws which served to grab land with vast natural resources away from the owners and lock it away, and even more, prove to the holders of the foreign debt that US citizens were not drilling. mining, or otherwise developing those resources. From that day to this, as the government sinks deeper into debt, the government grabs more and more of OUR land, declares it a wilderness or “roadless area” or “heritage river” or “wetlands” or any one of over a dozen other such obfuscated labels, but in the end the result is the same. We The People may not use the land, in many cases are not even allowed to enter the land.
This is not about conservation, it is about collateral. OUR land is being stolen by the government and used to secure loans with China to fight wars the government really had no business starting in the first place. Given that the government cannot get out of debt, and is collateralizing more and more land to avoid foreclosure, the day is not long off when “We The People” of the United States will one day wake up and discover WE are no longer citizens, but tenants.
In short, the United States is in deep trouble. We have lost a huge amount of our manufacturing capacity, and those products we still make do not compete well on the world market, despite the steady devaluation of the dollar. In short we have vast debts to pay and little to pay them with. Like the foolish farmer we have sold the machinery that allowed us to prosper, and we stand around shaking our investment portfolios back and forth in the hopes that the money inside will somehow grow all by itself. It won’t. It never has. It would seem “WE” can’t trust the government to look out for “our” best interests
