The Ides of March: What Obama’s Woes Will Do to Gold

“Sic semper tyrannis” (Thus always to tyrants). —Brutus, during the assassination of Julius Caesar.

In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, a soothsayer warns Caesar to “beware the Ides of March.” The warning did nothing to help Caesar, who was stabbed to death on the Senate floor. The principal conspirator against Caesar was Marcus Junius Brutus, Caesar’s most trusted ally.

Fast forward two millennia and we see another great empire is in trouble, and so, too, its leader.

Thankfully, democratic rulers aren’t murdered, they are voted out of office. Yet this President has almost three more years left in office, plenty of time to do more economic damage for a country and to lose every shred of confidence in a man once hailed as a visionary and a redeemer; the exact qualities that were bestowed upon Julius Caesar.

Caesar came to political prominence in 67 B.C. when he was elected to the Roman Senate. Over the next two decades he would become one of the most renowned of all generals. Eighteen years later he established himself as the sole dictator of the Roman Empire.

Caesar declared himself a man of the people and in 46 B.C. drafted a public letter outlining his goals. They included: “tranquility for Italy, peace for the provinces, and security for the Empire.”

History has declared Caesar did not have the time or means to complete his overly ambitious agenda which included resolving foreign conflicts, strengthening the middle class and resolving the debt crisis. It sounds all too familiar, with the exception that I find nothing about Caesar instituting Roman healthcare.

Historians do point out that Caesar’s goals and methods of governing alienated many of the nobles. For a time, that did not stop Caesar’s lackeys in the Senate from constantly voting him new honors. Unfortunately for Caesar, the Nobel Prize was not one of them, as it was created some 2,000 years later.

On March 15, 44 B.C., Caesar attended his last meeting. He ignored a warning and went to the Senate. Sixty conspirators, most of them Senators who had lost faith in his vision for rebuilding Rome, were waiting for him with concealed daggers. He was stabbed 23 times.

What exactly the House and Senate will do to Mr. Obama’s grand plans remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Mr. Obama has faced a winter of discontent.

According to a survey done by Rasmussen in March, only one in four Americans think the country is heading in the right direction. Other surveys this month show expectations for the nation’s short- and long-term economic future are gloomier than they have been at any time since President Obama took office.

Still, Obama supporters continue to harp on some silver linings among the dark economic clouds. Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) called the latest job numbers proof that the economic recovery is underway, even though the unemployment rate is a whopping 9.7 percent and the true jobless number is close to double that.

“Today is a big day in America,” said Reid earlier this month. “Only 36,000 people lost their jobs today; which is really good.”

Reid seems like the kind of cheerleader the Titantic could have used: “Good news passengers! The ship isn’t sinking as fast as we feared!”

I suspect that Reid and other Obama loyalists will find that most Americans think such talk cheap. In the second half of March, 2010, The Fates may have already determined the President’s plight. The big question is: who will deliver the blow and what will be the result?

Bernanke Obama’s Brutus
In March Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke promised to end Quantitative Easing (a fancy term for stimulating the economy and funding deficits by running the printing presses). Some think that the Fed Chairman only wants to ensure his Senate reconfirmation. Others think it is a real commitment; that Bernanke is more loyal to the dollar than the President.

I don’t blame you if you are skeptical about Bernanke. Still, there is precedent for the Fed to put the country first. It happened in 1979 when President Carter appointed Paul Volcker as chairman of the Federal Reserve.

The economy then was much as it is now. Unemployment was soaring, confidence was disappearing and the dollar was in crisis. Yet Volcker put the nation first and the presidency second. He raised interest rates through the roof purposefully putting America into a terrible recession.

Volcker’s actions eventually saved the American economy and cost Jimmy Carter his bid to be reelected. But it was tough sledding. The Fed funds rate, which had averaged 11.2 percent in 1979, was raised by Volcker to a peak of 20 percent in June 1981. That same year inflation topped out at 13.5 percent, a fundamental which drove the price of gold from $280 per ounce when Volker was appointed to $850 per ounce just 18 months later.

Yet I am dubious that Bernanke will betray Obama. The Fed chairman seems much more like Arthur Burns than Paul Volcker.

Richard Nixon hurt the dollar primarily because he removed any link between the dollar and gold. After 1971 not even countries could exchange greenbacks for bullion. That gave Nixon, and all later presidents, the freedom to spend away. Because the dollar was the world’s international reserve currency, Washington basically believed that other countries had to like it or lump it.

Arthur Burns came along when it was still expected for the Fed to carry out its primary mission—to protect the integrity of the dollar. Instead, Burns acquiesced to Nixon’s war on poverty, the war in Vietnam and bid for reelection in 1972. It was a cavalcade of spending that carried on throughout the decade of the ‘70s.

“After finally winning the presidential election of 1968, Nixon named Burns to the Fed chairmanship in 1970 with instructions to ensure easy access to credit when Nixon was running for reelection in 1972,” wrote Mercury Rising.

“Later, when Burns resisted, negative press about him was planted in newspapers and, under the threat of legislation to dilute the Fed’s influence, Burns and other Governors succumbed. Inflation resulted.”

According to American Thinker, it matters not if Bernanke is loyal to the President like Burns, or the dollar like Volcker; either way he “will be Obama’s Brutus.”

That is because like Rome, America is a weakened empire with no easy choices. Two trillion dollars that the Federal government needs this year underscores this truth.

Where such funds will come from remains very much in question. Foreigners are having second thoughts about financing America’s deficit, and China—the largest owner of Treasuries—has become a net seller of Uncle Sam bonds.

Very soon Treasury yields will have to rise to get the world to continue to finance Washington’s spending spree. So whether or not Bernanke wants it, or even likes it, interest rates are heading higher. That is bad news for the economy and for President Obama who will almost certainly not be re-elected.

Rising rates are, however, good news for the nation for bullion investors. Rising rates ensure falling stock and bond prices and a rush to gold. It happened during the Carter administration and it has already begun during Obama’s term.

Action to take: Sell all bond instruments and Big Board stocks and use the funds to buy bullion, either in physical form or blue-chip gold mining stocks.

As Shakespeare’s soothsayer warned, “Beware the ides of March.”

    I really like the ideal of the 28th Amendment; that would make our so-called representatives think a bit about what they are doing. As for health care, the real culprits are the health care industry, and the for-profit insurance companies. $900 for an aspirin? Insurance CEO’s making 10 million bonuses? What the hell is that about. The only true way to reform health care is to nationalize it, control what they can charge entirely, so quit the pussy-footing around, and do it, or quit talking about these band-aid reforms and leave it alone.

    Raging inflation is sure to occur; its just a matter of when, not if. Put your investments in solid commodities soon, and hang onto your hats.

    Except for a couple of partisan comments, this is one of the best series of comments I’ve seen. Amen to the constitutional amendment!

    Obama and Bush are part of the same family now. Anyone who believes otherwise is probably listening to some idealogue, or corporate interest, and not looking at the evidence, and the common people involved, like Geithner, Summers and Bernanke. There are differences between the rank and file dems and repubs, and differences between Bush and Obama; but those that really own our congress and the media want us to believe in those differences. Divided, we cannot change the course this country is, and has been on.

    The Reagan tax cuts and deregulations proved to be a good short term economic stimulus, which helped our balance sheets during the Clinton years; however, there should have been a plan to reinstitute some of those taxes on the upper eschelons, and not allow the financial industry to run amok. All subsequent attempts to curtail the “greed is good” philosophy have been squashed because the giant corporations have too much capital power at our expense. They can buy people, advertising, votes, the media – which equals poll numbers, you name it.. And though they don’t care at all for this country, they’re not stupid. We don’t see the money trails in broad daylight. But nothing happens in a vacuum, it’s all connected. They do own any critical democrats and republicans whether we choose to believe it or not.

    My insane hope is that some of those incredibly fortunate corporate controllers will begin to realise their childrens’ future is connected to a healthy United States. We need to avoid the partisan foolery, and come together behind amendment proposals like James’, and ‘real’ campaign finance reform, and all ‘real’ forms of sustainable economics and sustainable natural resource plans. We need to support forward thinking companies and ignore the BS. We’re probably better off passing the health care bill than not passing it. – But not much better; it’s already been so poisoned by the health insurance lobbies that its benefit to the country and the people has been marginalized.- Resulting in one big political obfuscation. The insurance companies prefer to squash the bill, but they’ve bought enough lines in it so that their profits from us won’t change much either way.

    We’ve got tough times ahead thanks to many years of dinosaur, short-term, greed-based economic policies. We should all be Independents, and try to find the true common ground that connects us. Don’t buy into the spin on both sides of every issue. We need to create smart communities that learn to live within their means and keep the land, air and water as clean as possible, because that, and the people, are the real capital of this country. We can’t be lazy anymore. It’s up to us. I’m with you James..

      You ran out of track, gravel and ties when you hit that preposterous hole of, “We’re probably better off passing the health care bill than not passing it. – But not much better; it’s already been so poisoned by the health insurance lobbies that its benefit to the country and the people has been marginalized.” The insurance companies were forced into providing coverage for routine medicine that should have been covered by the individual. If you were paying auto insurance for oil changes/lights/clean windshields/tires/wash-n-wax, you’d be getting one hell of a premium to pay ever month, and the exclusions would follow for old cars/wrecks/damage/bad driving/et al. The insurance companies make about a 6% profit, so they are not the cause of high costs–the costs are high due to the absolute best medicine available on the planet, and the finest never was and never will be cheap OR free. The government is the root cause of our trouble. Eliminating the outright criminal game of lobbying and you’ll be onto something where businesses are concerned.

        ‘Fraid not. We’re well down the line in regards to quality of care. We do have great acute and trauma care. But, many of the people in this country have been learning they are better off going to integrative and natural health services if they want to get and stay healthy. This has been happenning for a long time and medicine, the drug companies and medical suppliers are well aware of it. People who want to stay healthy are deserting traditional medicine in droves. They don’t want to be controlled, manipulated and decieved any longer.

        Tell me – why is there no recourse except to medical in the bills?

        Those same Big3 and all associated with them know the ground is heaving. They are afraid to death that if people learn how to be healthy their disease empire will collapse. Just look at all the fear they’ve generated that people might lose their “health care”. Well, it’s unstainable, so they’re going to lose it all anyway. The healthy ones will survive. Likely to be a lotta’ diein’.

        If only people knew how easy is is to be healthy.

      Let’s see Reagan tax cuts helped Clinton’s prosperity, what, 8 years after they were passed? So using that as a guide we have another 8 years of Bush economy?

These are the numbers of people on Advantage plans who will loose their coverage in the next few months. Before the ink is dry, $500 Billion will come out of Medicare! I hope you STUPID old folks who were played like a fiddle are happy. If you have people in nursing homes on Medicare, they loose! With the massive cuts this bill promises,Drs. will begin to close up shop and plain refuse to take any more Medicare or Medicaid pts. Walgreens stores have already refused to take any more Medicaid pts.Some people just have to learn the hard way!

    Obama was chosen for his golden throat by his handlers. He probably sincerely believes that only government can provide, because he doesn’t have the knowledge or experience to dig deeper than the shallow level he has shown so far. That’s what community organizers do, and it is enough to convince his useful idiots that he should prevail.

      Yes it is more than mainstream but for me understandable. They would not need the continued secret service protection if it wasn’t for all the nut jobs out there that think doing harm is the only answer.
      I do not begrudge anyone getting perks unless excessive and unjust like the mil$ bonus given to failing corporate ceo’s.

It’s time to get government “out” of the health care business…not take it over. The government could screw up a county fair…and some think we should put them in charge of life and death?         The Obama Health Care Reform Proposal does not eliminate private medical insurance provider, it gives one more option to buy your insurance from the government. If the private sector reject an individual from preexisting medical conditions, He can buy medical insurance from the outside the private sector. Isn’t this a life saver when your private insurer reject you because you have preexisting medical conditions? The proposed reform does not eliminate private medical insurance provider, It simply provide a new option from the government to those people who were not eligible for medical insurance from the private sector. It also provide affordable medical insurance to those people who could not afford to buy it from the private sector.

        This reform will directly benefit 31 million citizens that do not have medical insurance. Don’t you think the proposal is necessary to a lot of people? That is what the reform is all about, not socializing the medical insurance industry.

        The Truth About the Health Care Bills – Michael Connelly, Ret. Constitutional Attorney

        Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected.

        To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

        The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.

        However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

        The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.

        The irony is that the Congress “doesn’t have any authority” to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

        This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, of all of your personal healthcare direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

        If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However , that doesn’t work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.

        So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much, out the original ten in the Bill of Rights, that are effectively nullified by this law It doesn’t stop there though.

        The 9th Amendment that provides: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;

        The 10th Amendment states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people. Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control.

        I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to “be bound by oath or affirmation to support the Constitution.” If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it, without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway, I would hope the American people would hold me accountable.

        For those who might doubt the nature of this threat, I suggest they consult the source, the US Constitution, and Bill of Rights. There you can see exactly what we are about to have taken from us.

        Elizabeth, Going back to the Concordance of the Bible, in Deut.17:15, The word ‘stranger’ means alien or foreigner or strange. God was going to set a King over the Israelites since this is what they wanted, a man King, and God said that “He would choose one among their brethren, and not set a stranger, which is not thy brother.”

        The same rule applies that we would not want someone from China who has just come over and become our President. The Bible does not state any particular race like Victor stated. I don’t know where he got this from.
        We need to study both the Old and New Testaments to fully comprehend all that God has for us.

        Parents need to talk to and with their kids, not yell at or lecture to them all of the time. We need to cultivate their respect and friendship. I tell my daughters all of the time that even if they weren’t my daughters I would like to have them in my life as my friends, because I like them as well as love them. I like who they are. I make it a point to laugh with my girls as well as listen to them. When they have a problem they bring it home, not to the other kids at school.

      What do all of the screwed up countries have in common? Unions who expect to work for a few years and then gain back more than they aver made in retirement. I suggest we start but eliminating all unions. We have OSHA and EPA now to make it impossible to have unsafe working conditions. But unions only represent 7% of industry because most employees have figured out they top guys do not care about them.

        My Grand-father was a leader of the union movements in the railroads when they first got started. He was also a conductor, same as a ship’s captain, for the biggest line in the midwest at the time.

        Before he died I asked him to tell me some of what happenned. He said he’d rather not dredge all that up again. When asked if he were glad he did it he said, “Not for what it has become.” – with a tear in his eye.

        But that is not to excuse the railroad bosses for being so ungodly, greedy, pigheaded and corrupt, either. The Devil will take over and use people to accomplish his steal, kill and destroy goals in any situation where people know little or nothing true about God. If he can stifle or corrupt Biblical leadership he runs the show. Look at the Catholic church and its ongoing scandals.

        We now have laws that don’t allow those things. A business can’t work someone for 16 hrs. without paying through the nose; they’d rather work two people 8 hrs. each since it costs less. We also have minimum wage laws. Unions may have been helpful in the past, but they are no longer needed to protect workers. Now they are a catalyst for non-productive work. The pay union workers receive also drives the price of the products they make/build through the roof which hurts the economy. Anyone who thinks it’s okay for auto workers to do the bare minimum work while making $40+/hr. and then harassing workers who are more productive is an idiot. Because I was too headstrong to go to colege and earn a degree I have worked in the accounting and administration fields all my life (big mistake). I have worked my fingers to the bone day after day for about 1/3 of what UAW members make. I don’t have the huge benefits packages they do either. I could argue that it’s “not fair”. I can’t understand why mr. o wants to go around talking about spreading the wealth all the time, insisting that hard work pay should be distributed to those who won’t work or barely work and then be such a staunch supporter of unions. Then again, nothing he has ever done has made sense to me.

      Once the cascades start it will grow increasingly speedy, tumultuous and devastating – like an uncontrolled biochemical reaction increases as energy is released, volatile intermediates and end products are produced. Another example is events involved in the collapse of a large earthen dam retaining a big, deep reservoir where the head of water behind it increases faster than the spillway can let it go.

      This culture has become like a nuclear reactor where the operators are all passed out while the core approaches critical reaction rates. Chernobyl anyone? Well, those constraints on chaos have been our shared Constitution and Bill of Rights, noble and (reasonably) equitable laws and self-resrained (moral, ethical, vigilant, righteous) citizens. We are no longer a nation of laws but of subjectively applied “rules”, agendas and self-proclaimed (self-assumed and selfish) “rights”.

      This culture is vulnerable on many fronts and at a multitude of points.

      An example is the so-called “right to health”. How can that be a “right”? If there are things I need to do (or avoid doing), think about, emotions and fears to avoid, engage in for physical strength and vitality, consume (or avoid consuming) but I am unwise in those regards I’m going to make myself sick. What “right” have I to compel my neighbors to pay some outrageously priced medical shaman to try to fix me? What if I’m beyond being fixxed, or if no legitimate effort is made to heal me (only maintain me) in my present diseased status as long as possible, or if I go back to doing the same suicidal things I did before? It could oost, and probably will, more than I can ever produce to pay it back. “Oh, but I’ll go broke, bankrupt, be a pauper.” Well, that is the price of STUPIDITY and my misery should be a lesson to the neighbors’ kids.

      That is what is about to happen anyway. The one third of our people who are overweight or frankly obese are – bottomline – internally toxic, immune compromised, weak minded and unwilling to change. So are a lot of skinny people – drugs are toxic. They could learn how to help themselves, but they have been taught the doctors are responsible for their health. Well, we’re broke as a nation and no medical system will be able to handle the load for long. It doesn’t matter how altristic any of the providers are, either. At some point they’ll run out of supplies, manpower or something needed to keep it going.

      The same thing goes (in one way or another) for many services people are dependent on. Dependency is a nasty mother with a poisoned tit.

      When the water really starts breaching the dam (some geophysical, weather, epidemic, financial or catastrophic event occurs that sucks the blood out of the system) be prepared and have what you need to stay mentally and physically strong.

      The only thing that I can see that will pull us out of this is that we return to our heritage. Just praying, as some suggest, won’t help if people don’t change the direction of their hearts.

        I find fauld in tour thinking to an extent. My uncle was about 65 to 75 pounds over weight all of his life, never seen him at a drs office unless it was a physical for a job or life insurance. He probably did die early from it at eighty three years of age from a stroke, didn’t linger at all, dead in minutes. you have probably spent more on health care than he did and he had insurance for a long time!!! he paid all that time for insurance and never collected a thing from the insurance co. his son did collect on his life policy. See what I’m getting at? Some people have a propensity at carrying a few pounds extra, it in their genes and it doesn’t nessisarily bother their health! get off the “fat people are scum” trip it ain’t always true!!!

        You are right. It isn’t universally true that obesity is THE final criterion when it comes to longevity or basic health.

        I listed four things. From what I’ve learned dealing with people and studying health issues for decades is never underestimate the power of believing, mental toughness and adaptability.

        Your uncle died at eighty three. He had a lot of things in his favor to influence towards a long lifetime. It started with good nutritious food and strict, but loving , discipline in youth. He grew up before our soils lost their nutrient supplying capacity. And, very importantly, I’ll bet he grew up on a farm with little or no access to medical depredations. Most of all, he came to maturity during the depression and then survived WW II.

        If he was a grunt HE was TOUGHMINDED and had a will of steel. I’ll also lay you odds he was a Christian (regardless his positions on such things later in life) or exposed to Biblical teaching as a youth. I’ll lay you odds he was laughing the day before he died. God, bless his memory and his posterity – you too. Thanks.

    The real problem today is that many of us forget we are Americans first. Both parties for years have demonized the other, thus dividing the country by party, not issues. The lack of respect the politians have for one another is appauling. Differences should be handled with respect. I am tired of the bickering. When running for office, the negative ads do our young no good. The message sent to them is it is alright to denergrate your oppostion. Lets be Americans first with respect.

      I agree, but what are the Republicans supposed to do, when the Democrats attack, attack, attack constantly, and go on TV and tell out and out lies about them? It is political suicide to say nothing, so what do you do? I have for years watched the democrat attack machine devour people, and the fighting back is minimal. Sad thing is, people arent smart enough not to vote for the guy that spends millions of dollars on TV ads, and stands there pointing a finger saying, Bush, Bush, Bush, and change, change, change. Thats basically all this current guy did, and people bought into it, because they didnt take the basic time to get educated about this guy, as to who is he, what he is, what he stands for, where he is from, and where he wants to go. None of this was revealed or discussed. That is the sad state of affairs of politics. Maybe we would be better served that people should have to pass a test to vote.

        Amen to that! If you don’t contribute to the financing of the government….then you shouldn’t be able to vote. That means those who only draw benefits (welfare) can’t vote themselves more benefits. Contributing members of society get the vote!
        This president is building his empire mainly on the backs of those who do not contribute to this nation but live off it.

I think if we didn’t have (R) or (D) next to a politicians name, I wonder how many people would approve of the way our politians are running the country. People can be so loyal to their own party, they can’t see when their “own guys” are doing something harmful or going agaist the constitution. When Bush was prez, the dems vilified him for doing some of the same things that their hero, Obama, is now doing. And some republicans gave Bush a pass for some of the same things that they are in an uproar over O doing now. Hey, when it is unconstitutional, it doesn’t matter who is doing it…It’s still wrong!

      I agree totally, if we have to take that obama care, then so should the government workers, including president, vice president and on down to the lowest secretary.
      The USA has fallen in to a gimme state. There are people that were told that many generations ago their ancestors were treated terribly and that they should be given everything they want to make up for it, including rent, food stamps, medicaid, and then they can work and not report all of it and get back earned income credit for each of the 10 children that they share with their sisters. I have a problem with the welfare system giving to people who do NOT want to work, but, yet, have 1 baby after another, go around wearing bling bling, driving big cars, etc while I am on social security and am in the older part of the generations that obama wants to limit our care because we are not going to live long.
      Sounds like I’m rambling, but, I am trying to cover all the things I do not like about what is going on and I do write to senators and congress about it, whether the actual people get the messages or their aides throw them out, I don’t know, but at least I am trying to do my part.

You call it Bush’s war, but it was a war that needed to be addressed, and it was voted on by congress, so it isnt Bush’s war. If you want to state things that way, then the Democratic Congresss War is what it is. However, the current President cannot cut and run from this, and for you to insinuate he should is totally absurd. We are getting close to when we can do that, just not yet. Maybe you want it to fail and fall apart as most democrats do, so you cant point your little finger and continue to blame Bush for everything.         Yes, we are Americans and we will come back, we just don’t like seeing what is being done to our country and our freedoms under Obama, and we do need to talk about it, as well as fight it.

        To have no political parties would be like going to the electronics store and buying a foodoo TV. Never heard of that brand? I hope not, I just made it up. Branding gives us something to hang our hats on. Of course, the individual politician can go his own way, but then he will likely have hell to pay at the next election.
        In an ideal world we would all have the time to look up the record and the platform of each politician before we vote. But then, this isn’t an ideal world, is it?
        As far as splitting the votes, I don’t much care, as both major parties are building Government toward the eventual size that will collapse our country. So, what have I got to lose? I will likely never vote for a Republican or Democrat, although for sure the Republicans have stronger morality (I think).

    As a retired military man that have given over twenty-seven years of my life to my country, I truly feel that what this
    Country needs most is a new amendment to the Constitution . I am recommending that we add the 28th amendment to the Constitution of the UNITED STATES.

    For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that Congress members could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn’t pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered…in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn’t seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. I truly don’t care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop.

    This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come, Jim.

But when everything is given to them, and they are given this huge pension for life to where they never have to worry about paying for things again, they just dont care as to what we have to pay for, and how much we pay. They dont get it, because it doesnt apply to them. Just like hollywood cant make many good movies anymore, because they cant relate to the normal person because they dont live like we do.         With respect to the article regarding each individual taking charge of h/her retirement by shutting the door of government taking our money, [ in the amount of 15%] in which the government spends and keeps spending and thereby raising taxes every three to four years in order to keep SS running. The writer puts forward an alternative plan whereby each individual would have that 15% put into a separate bank or trust account which would gain interest annually, and therefore serve as your own retirement plan-which accordingly would grow much larger thus providing you the owner of your retirement plan with a substantially higher retirement income from your “wiser investment and retirement plan”. So far so good. The problem, I have is how can we trust “individual Insurance Providers or other international banking systems/or international Corporate Investment Firms anymore than the present government given the fact that we have just now bailed our the Banks and Wall Street from poor financial investments and indeed that infamous human characteristic known as “Greed”? Indeed, the current Congress is representative of this sort of behavior by placing themselves above the law and ensuring the stabilization of their own private, [ citizen paid for ] Rolls Royce Health Insurance Plan besides retirement with full salary and many other benefits than “nobility guarantees to such elites”! It seems to me that it is not only the government/Congress with whom have been liars, thieves, and perhaps even treasonable but so to have the International Corporations; many who have gotten extremely wealthier by our continued “war strategy throughout the past 50 years. Even during the so called “Cold War” we were fighting some country somewhere in the globe for some such cause as “for the national security and liberty of that nation and of ours due to the pretentious threat. When in fact, we were fighting as we always do for gold, oil or some other such artifact that would provide increased dollars and all the rest. Until now, while indeed we do have a huge crisis within this country concerning developing positive and ethical financial management by looking toward the future and not only the current “family crisis” from within. But equally important, and to some of us, more important are the “Constitutional Issues” with which we are facing today by way of “Stealth Jihad” that has infected almost if not all of our major political/economic/social/educational/national security institutions, Homeland Security, CIA, FBI, Pentagon, Congress,and their offices and committees, the Justice and including the Federal Reserve. Least we forget and we must not this also includes the United Nations with whom now has the desire to be the singular world government diminishing our constitutional rights of freedom of expression and even more. We have a whole lot of work to be done to save this country!

        DavidH – What they are saying about that they get to retire with 100% of their pay is not true. I went to I think Congress pay and benefits under Bing and it brought it all up. If Iremember correctly, they had to work at least for 5 years but could not draw under social security until they were old enough like normal citizens and I believe it also said they could opt out of the government plan and go strickly to Social security but couldn’t have both. However, you need to read for yourself because after I found out it wasn’t the truth I forget the nitty gritty. Howevef, it is the other benefits they get or at least the president and vp – th security, the aides, free offices etc. They really should have to pay income taxes on all of that as when I was working and had a company car, I had to pay on 25% of that benefit and received a W2 from the company stating what that benefit was.

        I am 100% per cent with you. The worst thing that any politician have ever done against the common people is passing the “patriot Act’, it took away a lot of people’s Constitutional rights. I am obsolutely flabbergasted to understand on how it could have passed the Congress’ scrutiny.

      I believe , but I guess I have never won an emmy for being a genius but I believe in my heart that our ilustrious president was educated, funded and raised up to be a person to take over and defeat our country. Everything he is doing is in the name of good but it ultimately is destroying everything that we were founded on. I will give you a wonderful chocolate cup cake , it only has enough poison to kill you.
      Mr. Obama is a Muslum, a wolf in sheeps clothing and he is in charge of the hen house. How better to defeat a giant but to destroy it from the inside. Only in America will the people vote in a president of Muslum faith only a few years after three thousand people were killed by the same people. I guess we deserve what is coming because of our stupidity. They are ultimately after our economy which is the strength of our resolve and they are going to take it down right before your eyes and most will not even know realize it, well , this could be in the past tense. I think that guns and ammo will be a better investment than gold in the future, this we seem to have forced on us but we are pioneers and we will not be defeated. Give me liberty or give me death.

The easy targets are “them” over there; time to have some resolve about looking closer to home.

        Finally a voice of reason! I too have always felt, but never voiced those thoughts obout obama. I have believed in my heart of hearts that he has somehow been primed, taught and educated to be exactly where he is right now and doing exactly what he is doing! I think there are many levels of involvement, so we can’t just blame one entity. However, I believe he was put in that office to destroy our forefathers constitution and everything that makes us different from other cultures! And he will not stop till he succeeds!
        Impeachment is the only way to save us.

        Please cite just one instance of your contensions that OBAMA has done to destroyed the foundation of America.

        Is it the meltdown of the financial system?, is it the out of control health care system? Is it about the state of the failure of free market system? Is it about the breakdown and degenerations of religious, ethical and moral aspect of the political system? Is it about your freedom and rights that were taken from you?

        Please specifiy what, when, and where of your concerns.

        It is unconstitutional to FORCE American citizens to buy health care from the Fed. Gov’t. and FINE them monetarily if they do not wish to do so…
        also the takeover of auto companies is NOT the job of the fed. govt…..
        also an American President BOWING to a Saudi Arabian Muslim King IS NOT APPROPRIATE…but it shows where his loyalties lie…and they don’t lie with the USA
        also BHO’s state of the union address was insulting to the U S Supreme Court Justices.
        BHO is rude, crude, arrogant and has no acceptable social skills. His own MOM and DAD both Abandoned him to be raised by his grandparents and he is taking out his rage about this on the American people…He needs to be impeached ASAP and deported to where he was born, i.e., Kenya (per a signed affidavit by his PATERNAL grandmother who stated she was present at his birth there and said his mom flew him at 7 days of age to Hawaii, where we STILL can’t get a proper birth certificate for him….need I say more?

        Great point, Ruth! Are you aware that Obama wants to rewrite the Declaration of Independence . . . for two reasons: 1) To assume bestowing “unalienable rights” from Founding Documents to Executive Privilege; and 2) To get rid of the clause that declares it a right of the people to replace any oppressive government that usurps the rights and freedoms guaranteed under the US Constitution.
