It’s Okay What You Do. Just Keep Me Safe

February 22, 2010 by

It’s Okay What You Do. Just Keep Me Safe

Scan me, strip me, pat me down, abuse my kids: it’s all okay, just keep me safe. That’s the mindset of today’s airline passenger. So that’s precisely what agents from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) do.

And the more compliant passengers become the more abusive government becomes.

In the wake of the 9/11 attacks the traveling public gladly handed over their 4th Amendment (that’s the one that is supposed to keep people “secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures”) rights to a government promising to keep them “safe.”

Hoping to remain safe we allowed airline security personnel to search through our luggage and carry-on bags as if we’re criminals and, if we “looked suspicious,” pat us down as well. Then the TSA was formed and in a matter of months thousands of new people were hired as screeners, and things got worse.

Now, according to press reports, this is what we get:

  • Sippy cups taken from toddlers—A former Secret Service agent who left the service to raise her child was stopped by TSA because there was water in her 19-month-old son’s sippy cup. She asked if she could have it back if she drank or poured out the water but the “friendly” TSA agent refused. She asked for a supervisor. The supervisor told her she had to leave security, empty the cup and be re-screened. While being escorted out by TSA and a police officer she unscrewed the cap to drink the water and some spilled.  She was then made to get down on her hands and knees to clean up the spill while her son cried for his cup. Then she was ordered to apologize for the spill and was threatened with arrest. In all, three TSA agents and four police officers were brought in to detain and harass a mom trying to have on hand what she needed to keep her son happy on a flight. Of course, she missed her flight. (The Philadelphia Enquirer)
  • Moms forced to drink breast milk—A mother with an infant brought bottles of breast milk in her carryon bag so she wouldn’t have to nurse her child on the plane. TSA agents made her drink it to prove it wasn’t harmful.
  • Kids’ Play-doh confiscated—TSA agents found tubs of Play-doh in a parent’s bag and confiscated it in front a 3-year-old, saying it looked like plastic explosives. The parent brought it to occupy the child on the flight. Sorry kid, you could be a terrorist.
  • White-haired grandmothers strip searched—Suspicious-looking white-haired grandmothers are often taken out of the screening line and taken to another room for extra screening. It makes perfect sense. They fit the profile after all.
  • Diminutive business woman charged with assaulting TSA agents—A small 57-year-old business woman was for some reason singled out for extra screening and TSA agents began emptying her carry-on bags. She objected and asked for a private screening. TSA took her to a private room and examined everything in her bags, including sniffing lipstick and pulling out credit cards. TSA agents claim the woman demanded the bags be carefully repacked. Upon leaving the room, according to TSA, the woman hit TSA agents with her bag and threw sandals. She was arrested, spent 17 hours in jail and charged with 10 felonies. A judge threw out all the charges and expunged her record because TSA didn’t save the video tape of the alleged incident. (The Philadelphia Enquirer)
  • TSA agents as jokesters—A TSA agent confronted a young woman who had just come through the metal detector. Holding up a bag of white powder he asked her, “What’s this?” The woman said she was dumbfounded and became very frightened because nothing like that should have been in her bag. After harassing her about it for a moment the TSA agent smiled and said, “Just joking.”
  • Four-year-old forced to remove leg braces and walk himself through screening—A Camden, N.J., police officer, his wife and their 4-year-old son were traveling to Orlando for the child’s birthday. The child, who was born 16 weeks premature, is developmentally delayed and has malformed ankles, was forced to remove his leg braces and walk through the metal detector on his own—something that he was just learning to do. He managed to make it through. The father, understandably upset, confronted a supervisor who turned and walked away. A local police officer approached and told the father he should calm down and enjoy his vacation. When a reporter asked a TSA spokesperson how such a thing could happen the TSA representative said the boy should never have been made to remove his braces, he should have just been taken to a screening room and had his braces swabbed for explosives instead. (The Philadelphia Enquirer)

Incidents like these leave you scratching you head. But it’s not just foolishness on the part of some undertrained agent—although there is a lot that throughout the TSA—it’s a power play by people given a little authority that they begin to abuse. And it plays into the hands of government seeking more control.

And here’s an example of how they always want more control: On the heels of the Christmas Day underwear bomber incident, TSA said it was installing naked body scanners in all airports: a boon to some well-heeled government players, as we documented here.

Now it’s not enough for them to rifle through your bags, humiliate you or feel you up, they now want to see you and your kids naked—and expose you to harmful radiation to boot. We documented the health risks posed by naked body scanners here.

Of course, TSA promised that there is no way for the images taken by the scanners to be saved or transmitted. As implausible as that was, that was their story. Now we see that TSA was indeed lying when it said the machines could not store or transmit images.

In London, Indian film star Shahrukh Khan told a British television audience that after he went through security at Heathrow Airport female security agents had printouts of his image made by the scanners. He said “you could see everything.” He autographed them and returned them to the women.

As usual, the goal by government is not to keep you safe, as evidenced by the facts that have come out about the Christmas Day underwear bomber. The goal is to continue to peel back your resistance to their tyranny. Scare you, show you a government solution and sell it, all while enriching a few well-connected people. That’s the government way.

But most go along to get along, as long as a semblance of safety is promised.

Scan me, strip me, pat me down, abuse my kids; even take pictures of my kid’s naked body. I feel safer already.

Airport security is a horrible joke. They are not permitted to profile less someone from a particular group be offended. So instead, airport security harrases, terrrorizes and offends others who are the most unlikely to be terrorists. This is both illogical and inefficient as well as a waste of time. While security is spending it’s valuable time torturing crippled children or terrorizing little old ladies, potentail terrorist walk right by. The people in charge don’t seem to have very much common sence. In any case much of what is being done is in violation of the consstitution. When we destroy our own freedom in the name of safety the terrorist win a victory. I do not say that there shoud not be security measures but we should use common sense and violate the constitution.

  • Gale

This is absolutely disgusting, it was bad before but now it has become ridiculous. Whey do they pick on older women w/lots of gray hair and little children, they are real terrorists. It is time (past time) to start profiling and looking at the ones that could be terrorists. The last time I flew was June of last year and I may not fly again – the TSA people are enjoying this, they are such small petty people and have no intellect at all. It’s no wonder the airlines are losing money.

    • TIME

Gale, TSA’s rules to look for are the following profiles,
      #1, anyone with a baby,
#2, anyone who acts wierd or strange,
      #3, older people.

Thats all rather straight forward profile.

  • ROSINA

From the start the TSA has been unruly.
I flew to Mexico some years ago and thotoughly checked out all the NEW requirements, especially about types of locks as I use a soft bag with no locks so use a padlock. Purchased an APPROVED BY TSA padlock.
uPON ARRIVAL at destination, my bag was open, strap around it missing, lock gone. And I know for a fact it could only have been done in JFK where I was first to check in,and was alone in airport for some time, plenty of time for ‘idle fingers to play’ The flight was delayed so transfer was severely rushed, so I am certain it was not done there. I made a complaint and a bill for missing strap an price of padlock. It took some time but i did get a refund.
This is not a horrific story as above BUT I would advise each and everyone to write to the head of TSA with their stories.plus their reps and senators.
    MAYBE SOMETHING WILL BE DONE.

  • Mike

I, for the life of me do not understand what is wrong with “profiling”. Further, I know that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is pretty well established that all terrorists are Muslim men between the ages of 18 and 45. That sounds like a pretty good place to begin a security check rather that giving them some kind of “free pass” because of a warped sense of political correctness. Leave the kids, old ladies and veterans alone until they become recognized as terrorists. TSA is about as effective at what they do and how they do it as the IRS. They both need to be shut down because the are both operating “above the law”
    Mike

    • Deb

I agree with you Mike about profiling.

    • Glenn

Do not forget the Federal Reserve. The Fed has been operating above all laws for almost 100 years come 2013.

    • Mark

I too believe profiling should be legal. It is however OUR country and we know exactly who these types are that carry bombs onboard aircraft. To hel_ with their whining this is OUR country. I used to fly but got tired of the abusive TSA butt holes. The majority are nothing but a bunch of looser sadists that could not get any other job, except a gov’t job. When I flew and if I have to again I always have a weapon. One that passes the gate everytime. One that would leave cut flesh and blood everywhere. No it is not a knife. But it would be sufficient for those coward muslim arabs that want to kill me. I choose to travel by motorcycle anymore. Why be in such a big damned hurry all the time. That way I am always locked and loaded for any aholes that want to play TSA agent and harass me.

  • OtherTim

How soon before travlers are issued disposable pj’s to put on before going through security.

There’s not enough shady looking characters going through the gates, so TSA folks have to harass somebody just to make their day interesting, doesn’t matter if it’s granny, or nursing mom.

I’ve tried to make small talk with some, and boy are they a sour bunch.
The only TSA’s half-way friendly are at the small airports.

  • http://www.KJZRRadio.com BigAl

I for one have never flown.

Seeing as how the Terrorist Scam Authority has taken all of the life and whatever fun there might have been out of flying, I will happily travel along the ground.
Only sheeple line up to be abused.
Americans have ceded their liberty for a little convenience.
    For shame.

    • DaveH

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
      Ben Franklin

    • Katja

Well, BigAl, now you can really be proud that you have never flown in your life ! Right, stay on your farm and think you live in the greatest country of the world, because you have never been anywhere else ! That’s just how this whole thing started: With Americans like you who never looked over their fence and thought all the rest of the world is evil, uncivilized and primitive (never mind all the German cars that you guys like so much ), and your country has to go out there, start a war, and bring them the “American way of life”, which is only a little older than 200 years, while other countries exist for 4000 !( I am NOT an Arab, but German, which means I HAVE to fly if I want to see my children over there). Now you wonder about terrorists from countries which are fed up with being bombed for no reason.
And it is not only the airports where you get humiliated. Recently I had to go in a Court House in Illinois. They scanned me and my purse, telling me I had suspicious stuff in there. Dumping my purse on the conveyer belt, they pawed through the purse and the things on the belt, finding nothing, but still claiming there was SOMETHING. I had to go out and put my purse in the car trunk. When I got back, that fat security woman told me, she saw something in my purse and I was not allowed to enter. When I told her, I do not even HAD a purse anymore, she got absolutely crabby and called her supervisor (who was luckily of a somewhat more sane mind) who let me enter.Facit: She did not even LOOK at her screen, and just all the time CLAIMED to see something. And I pay for that with my taxes !

  • Kirk

This could be a tax savings pitch. How about we eliminate all public flying fleets and all politicians use the same air transportation that the public endures. Picture trying to stand in line and board with the President’s staff with all the hardware they carry going through the same check points with the same staff checking them out.

    • TIME

      Kirk, Now thats funny!

  • http://embro35@verizon.net Emily Brobst

President Obama and his family will never have to suffer any indignity the rest of us slaves have to endure because they always fly on government aircraft at our expense: To New York on a date, with Secret Service and plenty of back-up; to Hawaii on vacation. etc. It’s always the elites, who say Oh, I’m going into government service to serve the country I love, and once they are in power, integrity goes out the window. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, someone said.

    • kodster5

Yes, and if someone else who posted, asking if Obama would object to Michelle and his daughters being treated like that? Will never happen now, since he now has the “privileges” of the office. They’ll always fly on the American taxpayers dole, till they get planted in the ground.

  • don

I Quit flying around the time all of this ignorance started. If I go anywhere now I drive there , or I do not go. I will not (Pay) to be treated like a common criminal by a bunch of poorly trained people with the BIG me Little you syndrom. The airlines can stuff it !!!!!!!!

  • Donald

These Idiots at TSA are the ones who need to be strip searched. I had one take a small pair of wire cutters. I had accidently left them in a carry on bag. I had only been check through 6 other check points but
number 7 at Portland had a cow.WE went nose to nose over the whole deal and He said I could mail them to my self.
This bunch of TSA Idiots will get thiers one day some one with the real deal will come through a check point and blow thier ass to the moon. I’m done flying.

    • kodster5

I feel the same way. I flew to Quebec City, Canada, from Tennessee January of last year. I had absolutely no problems getting through security in Nashville to board my flight. Spent the long weekend with my daughter and her family in Quebec City… no problems. Get to the airport, go through security there, and they go through my purse, extracting out my cigar cutter and an extra lighter I had in there. The agent called out her supervisor when I questioned the validity of the danger of a cigar cutter, and the cigar cutter was confiscated, no further questions allowed. Personally, I think it was confiscated for personal use, not because it was contraband. :(

  • Jim

I was taught by truly educated (not brainwashed) educators, that the sole purpose of the Federal Gov’t was to protect my individual liberty from being usurped by anyone. And toward that end only, were they given the overwhelming powers that they so recklessly wield and regularly abuse now. I don’t want them to keep me “safe” by locking me up economically with devastating debt and pork laden legislation and physically prohibiting my free movement. I want them and especially the American Citizens, to recognize just how dangerously far they have progressively “wandered” into the dark realm of tyranny in so many ways in the past 100 years.

  • Michelle

Great article – total abuse by the system. My family is avoiding all airline travel if possible and driving to destinations now. My husband jokes that we might as well go naked through the airport, that is how bad it is getting. This abuse of power has been going on for years. My first experiences with it was travel to Jamaica for my daughter’s wedding. She had the extra package of newly purchased batteries for her walkman taken away, still in the original packaging. I’m sure that agent needed free batteries. I was pulled for further screening while wearing a tight knit dress with built in bra, underwear and sandals. Don’t know what they thought I might be hiding. Traveling with babies is impossible because you can’t bring formula or drinks for them in sippy cups without causing trouble. What happened to our rights? We are done flying!

  • Kirk

I’m done flying. I’ve recently flown to a destination wedding with my 83 year old Mother and she has not yet recovered from the confusion and harassment. She was embarrassed for trying to remember which items were in which compartment of her carry on luggage. My Wife helped my Mother to find her boarding pass and 3oz. containers of dangerous chemicals such as toothpaste. I directed traffic around the 3 of us until everything was in order. The experience left my Mother confused which has never been an issue and realizing she is too old to endure this type of experience again.

  • http://personalliberties suck it up

first lets remember that this is just a few exampels of hunderts of thousands of people that fly each day and if they ae the worst then how bad is it really?Parents should think before putting playdough in a carry on or liquids that cant be checked. The boy with the braces and the girl being given a hard time was over the top but that is going to happen sometimes and should be delt with accordingly.I do fly a great deal and a little forthought before you travel helps alot.

    • DaveH

Yeah, and soon you’ll be advising us to not worry about cavity searches, just make sure we do an enema first.

  • Arkham Grundy

I just flew back from Europe. After going through the usual security screening and x-ray of baggage at the airport in Paris, they later roped off our gate and everyone had the have every article of their carry-on searched while each passenger had to remove their outer clothing to be patted down by security staff of the same gender. We were told that there was a special security alert. The flight was delayed for over an hour.

A similar experience occurred in Frankfurt.

It’s not just here in the US. The terrorists have successfully disrupted life everywhere.

  • drfill

AMEN! All people with good common sense and decency agree with the preponderance of people expressing views here. Maybe you or Chip good research and write a good article on practical suggestions, including how to effectively complain and stand up for your constitutional rights with out having to be a defendent in Court.
I refuse to fly commercial because of all this crap. If I need to go a long distance, I rent a “small” plane, with a flight instructor, and have him fly me to my destination, getting some recreation flying lessons at the same time. Somewhat more expensive, but I absolutely hate to yield to communism and I hate to economically reward airlines that cooperate with fascism.

And remeber, when the Census takers (ACORN types?) come to your door, refuse to answer any questions about race. The Federal Government has the least excuse of any segment of society to be racist. All Congressmen and Senators who favor “Affirmative Action” are knucledragging racists of the worst kind.

    • TIME

      DrFill,

With the Patriot act you have “no rights” when it comes to group travel in the air.

    • DaveH

The Census was instituted by the Constitution but only to enumerate the citizens for apportionment of our Representatives.
They have gotten totally out of hand with their questions:
      http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=4745

      • http://Don'thaveone Sally

The fasinating thing about the Census is, I am 72 years old, have lived in the US 50 of those years (absense was due to my husband in the military) and only once, have I ever made out a Census form. My son who is 50 years old has never made out a form, nor ever seen a census taker in his life. So even this is a joke.

  • http://aol David

When you hire what amounts to Wal*Mart rent-a-cops and give them power, they act like this. These people are ill-trained and love harrassing people.

  • Larry

I’m all for seeing TSA completed eliminated. There is no evidence they have made us safer. As for the white haired grannies, 4 year olds with disabilities, etc being selected for special scrutiny everyone clearly sees this abuse as wrong. Everyone except the ACLU it seems. While all terrorists (except for T Mcvey) have been middle eastern, Muslim men between 18 & 45 years old, we do not direct out scrutiny toward them, but instead gather the whole population in the net we cast. Racial profiling? That’s hard to swallow – IMO if a white man looking like Santa robs a bank, the cops should be looking for a Santa Claus. They should not search for black men who are under 4′ tall! It’s not racial profiling when the suspects general description is known as it is in the case of terrorist!
And don’t tell me all religions have fanatics – show me a Baptist suicide bomber!

    • iowaheretic

      You ARE kidding,aren’t you?

      • iowaheretic

I”m Referring to Westboro Baptist Church as being lunatics.

    • libertytrain

Larry – I expect all religions do have their own fanatics – Eric Rudolph – comes to my mind.

  • Robin from Indiana

This is abuse… abuse of power! And what is wrong with profiling? When 4 year olds become terrorists and grandmas become terrorists, then maybe some one would have an explanation. I wonder how Barry would feel about having Michele and his daughters scanned?

  • Carol Campbell

No, I don’t say “It’s okay what you do, just keep me safe”. Who asked me what I wanted? Who asked ANY of us what we wanted? This isn’t about our choices, it is about control. Unfortunately, there is no other practical choice for travel.

In May I need to go to New Mexico. It is fast to fly from Seattle to Albuquerque, but it would take a full two days on Amtrack, and much more than that to drive myself. Either option would be much more expensive that the $99 non-stop fare I snagged on Southwest.

So, I echo Jim in Alabama: “What are the options?”

    Carol in Bellingham WA

    • http://Don'thaveone Sally

Personally, I don’t understand why anyone has to be searched on internal flights, just international flights. I guess it is because they are afraid of old grandmas may have a bomb you know where! On the underwear bomber – if Holland had done their searches and profilling correctly, he wouldn’t have been on that plane to begin with. I don’t know the answer at this moment either.

  • http://??? joe momma

(that’s the one that is supposed to keep people “secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures”) rights to a government promising to keep them “safe.”….notice the amendment has a list…..first on the list????…your PERSONs……mandatory voluntary piss testing has been going on for decades…..i tole’ you then it was the road to a slippery slope…..you all just scoffed, cause we need to be safe from those “druggie” truck drivers and refinery workers……duh!….

    • TIME

Joe, Very good point, any invasion of your rights or freedoms is unreasonable.

    • DaveH

For sure, Joe, the drug wars were the first major assault on our Fourth Amendment rights:
      http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=11019

And I know your frustration. I too have been preaching for years to a deaf audience. It would have been so much easier to stop it before it started; but now that people are finally waking up, it is going to take a much greater effort to roll back our Leviathan Government.

Still the vast majority of freedom-loving people think the Republican Party is going to lead us there. They aren’t. We will just get slower, more undetectable government growth with the Republicans until Government has reached critical mass and can no longer be turned back without extreme violence and sacrifice.

      • John B

You are dead on right !

      • Edward

If we send every incumbent home when his shift is up, we will get better government. I hear people whine that we’d be “losing continuity”, to which I am inclined to respond “: “…that’s exactly what the point would be…” continuity (same old, same old) we don’t need.

  • DogWithoutSlippers

The “Warder” mentality gives some of these common thugs power. The easy way is to pick on people to justify their prejudices – though muslim types are ushered through. People should just refuse to go through the body scan machine and say they will strip to their undies and let the “Warders” look up their cavities but will not be microwaved!

    • http://aol Pete H.

Hitler’s brown shirts-tsa investigaters=Obama’s suggested civilian police force. Enough to scare the hell of an AMERICAN.

    • kodster5

What’s the point of the body scanners, then? You’re complying to be naked in front them anyways… and that’s what they want… you to be at your complete nakedness, to humiliate and intimidate you. Why do you think cops like doing it when they process you for intake into jails? Why do you think the soldiers at Abu Ghabib got such sadistic joy out of doing their job? We’re being treated as prisoners of war.

    • DaveH

Please tell me you’re kidding. There will be hell to pay for anybody that ever forces me to undergo a cavity search.

      • Bob

Hell to pay, huh? And when you refuse you will be taken to a back room charged with a dozen felonies and then be searched at gun point.

As another said here, this is why I no longer fly anywhere, I used to love to fly but haven’t now since 9/11. If I can’t drive I don’t go. The next thing I expect to see is checkpoints at the state borders where they will check your papers and require state permission to leave the state.

      • DaveH

        Bob,
Cavity searches are the ultimate intrusion on our persons. If we can let these creep perverts get away with that, then we no longer have freedom.
Government has gotten so large under the guise of protecting us from others. But in reality, we now need somebody to protect us from the “protectors”.

  • RivahMitch

And people wonder why airlines are going broke… Personally, I no longer fly. If I can’t drive there, I’m not going. When American citizens, including those of us who’ve put our lives on the line for this country, need to be harassed at airports because the government refuses to defend our borders or name our enemies, that government has become “abusive of” our rights. Worse still, we’re paying for the abuse. Government is no longer the friend of the middle class taxpaying American..

    • TIME

Rivah, Government is not your friend at any level, it just looks like they are helping the ” POOR ” thats all a sham as well quite easy to see through, Use the week link to undermind the whole group.

      • DaveH

And they are only helping the poor to buy their votes. Once they achieve absolute power, the poor will be cast aside.

    • http://blaloha@comcast.net bert

Ditto! We have been profiled twice, though the searchers were polite. If the airlines go broke, Uncle will bail them out. When in power, abuse that power. Makes “them” feel good and superior to you, the hapless air traveler.

  • Phil

I’ve always been aginst giving in to the terrorist… These incidents in this story are over the top… Do I feel safer?.. Not really..taking leg braces off a 4 yr old?.. The lack of common sense by these Tsa employes is more a worry to me than any terrorist…the Patriot act gives them the green light to do anything they want… Is it worth it?.. Not to me..

    • Harold Olsen

The way these TSA morons act and treat people is, itself, terrorism. They can pretty much do as they please and get away with it. As I’ve said, it’s terrorism and they are terrorists.

      • Warrior

Just think about once we get all those high speed trains, we’ll be able to hire more TSA employees to perform searches on those passengers. This is exciting.

      • K. Girard

I could not agree MORE… The TSA is an out of control group of people with too much power, they are enjoying themselves way too much at our expense.

    • http://Don'thaveone Sally

Phil, I feel sorry for anyone who has to fly these days, I guess if you are a frequenty flyer you should look into leasing flight times. However, my main comment is “They walk among us and the worst part is they VOTE!” How pathetic.

      • http://www.personalliberty.com/freedom-concerns/it%E2%80%99s-okay-what-you-do-just-keep-me-safe/?replytocom=83418#respond Cindy

Sally you are so right, they are so intertwined in the USA it would make your skin crawl. It makes me so sick to think this is what our Country has come to. “Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it”. I never knew what my grandfather meant by this, I sure do now. Our Government has forgotten our history and our children are paying for it. We need to get back to basics and start telling the youth no you can’t just have it but you can EARN it. We are raising a generation of give me’s. These TSA’s are proof of the disrespect we are teaching this generation. sad but true. Have a good day

  • JIm

“It’s Okay What You Do. Just Keep Me Safe”
Great article and absolutely true. I have watched this playout weekly as I travel 100% for work. The sad thing is, the least bit of resistance or comments you make to the TSA agents will get you more harassment and possibly arrest on top of missing your flight. If your flying is work related and you need to be somewhere, you are caught between the proverbial “rock and a hard place” and have to shut up just to get through it all. I thought TSA was a bad idea when it was formed and just created more goverment union thugs. The only real change with the formation of TSA is that the old baggage screeners are paid more, have government jobs, became union thugs and have uniforms. Efficiency has also been seriously degraded along with common sense.
So if you have to fly to keep your job, what are the options?

Your options are to not vote for anybody who doesn’t promise to cut back the size of Government. In my book, that only leaves one Political Party – the Libertarian Party:

Dave-I would like to see 2 or 3 viable parties to choose from, but let’s all face REALITY. There are only 2 viable parties in this country and one of them will be in power after the electons. The Conservatives have been so fractionalized by all the other parties that now exist, that the Liberals have taken over the entire Gov. so lets be realistic and sensible. Vote for a Rep or vote for a Dem but vote against ALL incumbents. In three years we could replace everybody in D.C. That would give representatives that are not career polititions and are not beholding to anyone. If you vote Libratarian or Green Peace or any other party you have just helped the Libs get elected. In the future we must all stand together or most assuredly we will all fall separetly, and that means the Libs win again.

There is nothing sensible about doing the same old thing while crossing your fingers and hoping that this time it will work.

Definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I’ve been hearing that same old bull about splitting votes for the last 40 years. I vote for my principles and if others aren’t smart enough to do so also, it is not my fault.

      • DaveH

Republicans have been complicit in this Big Government Growth. Without their help, the Democrats could have never gotten us this close to Total Government Control.

      • http://N/A Patriot

I have no arguement about Rep being complicit in all the problems. It seems however that you missed my main point. I have voted for third parties in many elections but have now come to realizee there are only 2 Viable parties. I doubt that this will change in my lifetime though I would love to see it. Right now the country is in such bad shape I think we should just throw them all out every time they stand for re-election. The fastest way to fix things is to get rid of ALL politicians. They won’t put term limits on themselves so let’s do it at the poles. By electing new people in every election is the best way to get some fresh people representing us. Again the reality is there are presently only 2 viable parties, so vote for either one but get rid of the career polititions.

HEY DAVE…What’s “same ole thing” about getting rid of every incumbent in Washington? Every half way intelligent person I know agrees with that play. When the whole crew is screwing up every aspect of their job, the solution is quite simple. You FIRE the whole dam crew, period.

      • Drew2010

        FIRE THEM ALL!!
AND WE NEED TO DO IT SOON

      • DaveH

It will be the same old thing unless you can extract guarantees by the candidates that they will shrink Government. It won’t matter if they are old or new if they don’t promise to cut Government back dramatically and then follow through.

        Thanks Alan
You seem to understand. The thing is we can’t do it if we fractionalize the vote. If people vote for 3rd 4th 5th parties the incumbents will win. There are ONLY 2 VIABLE parties so please vote for either one and against all incumbents.

      • DaveH

OMG. I have been hearing that same tired thing for 40 years now, and the Government keeps growing. Give it a rest guys. Bush Senior got nominated because the Republicans thought that to win they needed a more middle of the road candidate after Reagan.
I knew what you meant the first time Patriot. How dumb do you think I am? For sure not dumb enough to keep trying the same old thing over and over again with the delusion that maybe it will work this time.

      • DaveH

This just in. Scott Brown voted for the Jobs Bill (stimulus with a fancy name). As I have said before, he’s just another RINO. This is what you get when you vote for the “lesser of two evils”. Wake up!

      • DaveH

This is what you get when you rest your hopes for less Government on Republicans:

        Dave,

Was there a Libertarian in the race with Scott Brown for Massachusetts Senator?
