Michelle Bachmann And Marsha Blackburn Will Not Attend Tea Party Convention

February 2, 2010 by

Michelle Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn will not attend Tea Party convention Just days before the first-ever convention of the Tea Party movement, some high profile participants have announced they will withdraw from the conference.

On January 28, Republican Representatives Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said they will not be attending due to a review by the congressional ethics committee.

According to a statement from the Tea Party Nation, the committee could not authorize them to speak because of the for-profit nature of the event.

"We regret that they are unable to attend, however we do not want them to be challenged by the committee or the Democrat led Congress," commented one of the movement’s representatives, adding that both lawmakers expressed their support and well wishes for the convention.

As both women were expected to speak at the event, it has been announced that conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart will replace Blackburn, while the replacement for Bachmann has not yet been announced.

The convention will take place from February 4-6 in Nashville, Tennessee, with former Alaska Governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin delivering the keynote speech.
