GOP calls out Obama administration on Gitmo detainee transfers to YemenAfter an al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen claimed credit for Christmas day’s failed terrorist attack aboard a flight bound for Detroit, several U.S. Congressmen have called on President Obama to stop the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to the Arab country.

Three senators— John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.)—called the potential transfer of prisoners imprudent and rash.

"Given the security situation in Yemen and the failure of the Yemeni government to secure high-value prisoners in the past, we believe that any such transfers would be highly unwise and ill-considered," the senators wrote, quoted by the Agence France Press.

Nearly half of the 198 prisoners that are still being held at the Guantanamo Bay are from Yemen. The news source reports that the Yemen government has freed the six former Gitmo detainees that were sent back to Arab country on Dec. 20.

"Yemen is emerging as a well-organized terror hub in a struggling state, reminiscent of Afghanistan before 9/11," said Stewart Baker, a former official of the Homeland Security Department, quoted by The Los Angeles Times. "We don’t want to send nearly 100 people back there only to discover them getting on transatlantic flights with fake documents."

President Obama’s top counterterrorism advisor John Brennan told Fox News that Guantanamo Bay must be closed, but that they won’t "put American safety at risk."

    All of you Muslim sympathizers have evidently forgotten that they attacked us. Period! Half of you responders have probably never spent one day in the military service so you have no clue as to what you are talking about. You set on your fat asses and let other people do the fighting for you while you enjoy the benefits of someone else’s life. Get off your ass and join the military, then you will have a real right to comment. Unless you have forgotten, Bush and Cheney are history. Forget about them and concentrate on the present. If things were going right, there would not be a constant reminder of things that were supposedly their fault. President and all you whiners included. Get your lazy ass off the couch and vote! That is the only way to initiate change. My opinion of Gitmo is that it should stay as is everyone detained should be tried by a military tribunal. They attacked us, why whould anyone in their right mind have any sympathy for them???? If you sympathizers don’t like that, go live in their part of the world, you’re of no benefit to this country. Just leave, see how their welfare system works.

    Another thing that really gets to me is the fact his real name is Barry Soetoro and he is a citizen of Indonesia he became a citizen there because he father wanted to be able to go to school there and the the only way he could do that is to become a citizen there because they were at war but all of that was not brought forward and with magic he was born in Hawaii but has never really shown a real Birth Cerificate. Oh Hawaii is has listed as live birth I hope he was born alive because it were dead that would have been a still birth.

    If jobs are being lost its obvious that these persons who have been out of work longer than 18 months are still out of work as there are no JOB GAINS, can I spell it out any better.

    Wake up, I have told you all its too late. That boat was missed years ago, vote in 2010 enjoy the slight twist to do the same dance with a new face. Do you really think it will CHANGE?

    At my age, I have seen a lot of Congresses come and go, some bad, some not so good. However, I have never seen a Congress like the present one whose members don’t seem to know what their jobs are. The blatantly dismiss the wishes of their constituents to pass a m monstrosity of a bill that they know darn well their constituents don’t want. I can’t figure out why they are jeopardizing their jobs unless they are being paid off and are willing to lose their seats to turn this country into a thing it was never meant to be. These congressman/women are all intelligent people but they seem bound and determine to destroy this country. I guess money does that to people even at the risk of ruining the United States of America. The best way to remedy that situation is to kick them out right down to the last man or woman and start ovr again. The mid-terms will be a start and then we can finish the job in 2012.

    I have yet to hear ONE VALID REASON from Barack Obama for NEEDING to close Guantanamo Bay in HIS FIRST 100 DAYS! With the plethoria of issues that faced the United States of America in HIS new administration, to this day, I have to wonder WHAT his intentions were/are and WHY he felt this was so important. It is just beyond my comprehension. I think many more Americans feel the same way I do. If I am correct, please feel free to add to this comment. I for one, DO NOT want these terrorists set free – here or in any other country.

      Neither do I want them turned over to a government that will just release them because they are afraid of al Qaida. I believe that the reason why Obama is closing Guantanimo is that he is a Muslim in disguise and really has sympathy for the prisoners and doesn’t want them imprisoned. Everything he has done regarding the terrorists points to that determination. Remember, he grew up as a Muslim in Indonesia before he ever came to this country and then he was exposed to the “Rev. Wright” for 20 years.

        Guantanamo has been used as recruting tools. Detainees released by Bush/Cheny told stories about prison abuse. You could probably care less but Muslims care big time.

        Remember the uproar among Muslims becuase of prison abuse at Abu Gharib. There was surge in violence against our troops in Iraq afterwards. Turns out abuse started after Guantanmo prison security personnel were transferred to Guantanamo.

        Constrast that to the decent treatment Jessica Lynch and other U.S. captured soldiers received at the start of the Iraq war. Lynch was treated for her wounds and released unharmed.

        I shouldn’t be the one to tell you this. The administration and elected Democrats should be making this widely known.
        Where’s that so called liberal media, I’ve been hearing so much about?

        Bush/Cheney were disinvited from the Republican National Convention.
        They grossly underestimated troop casualties in Iraq, they had troops dithered in Afghanistan for years, joked about WMD’s outed a CIA agent. Now Cheney is supposed expert. Well maybe he saw the future when he started converting millions of dollars to Eurodollars a few years ago.

        Regarding how about those socialist Republicans like Grassley and Bachman receiving socialized medical coverage and millions in farm subsidies paid by tax payers.

They mostly are only suspects and we should have to prove in a trial that they are guilty. If the war on terrorism goes on for 20 or more yrs,like many think, can we just hold anyone we want to indefinitely?? How is that the rule of law. A lawful country can’t just decide they are at war continually and then hold anyone they like…We can and should do better.

The army and the media tried to make the incident look like a dramatic rescue…Only one problem; Ms. Lynch stated herself That the news stories were not true as they were told..True, they did not release her to the outside world, they released her to the soldiers who came to “rescue” her, as they were notified of her whereabouts. The rest is just a story. Don’t even think about mentioning the Stockholm syndrome”. I have a nephew who is on his 4th tour to that region and I truly see no reasons for those detainees/prisoners of war at Guantanamo Bay are released, least of all within the United States. We had a unique system and in some ways flawed because our Constitution protects its citizens and unfortunately does not bar these rights to others that set foot on US soil. Some rat of a lawyer/representative will find a loop hole and aide the worst of the worst to freedom, bottom line do not close the Base and keep them there and off US soil.

    It just doesn’t make sense, you all seem to say. Why would a President of The United States make such moves? Why would he seek to inflict such damages to our country?
    Consider this. Barack Obama sees his present job as a mere stepping stone towards his real agenda. Ever wonder why a campaigning presidential hopefull would play before huge crowds in Europe when American voters endorsements were what was required? Why would a sitting POTUS chair a meeting of the United Nations? Why would he bow to Saudi royalty. Why has he traveled the globe more than any other POTUS in history during his first year in office? Why would he extend concessions to Interpol that have no apparent benifets to our citizenry?
    If you think this sounds like a world wide appeasement tour, you would be correct. The fact is that he is still campaigning, campaigning to become the United Nations Secretary General. King of the world in the soon to be realized New World Order.
    Speculation you say? Maybe, you be the judge in four or five years.

        Ernest no one is going after your guns. This has to do with international arms dealers. Unless you want to see our soldiers killed with guns exported from America than you should welcome the decision.

        First, the Interpol thing has absolutely nothing to do with international arms. It says:
        By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the
        laws of the United States of America, including section 1 of the International Organizations Immunities Act (22 U.S.C. 288), and in order to extend the appropriate privileges, exemptions, and immunities to the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), it is hereby ordered that Executive Order 12425 of June 16, 1983, as amended, is further amended by deleting from the first sentence the words ‘‘except those provided by Section 2(c),Section 3, Section 4, Section 5, and Section 6 of that Act’’ and the semicolon that immediately precedes them.
        This is all about being able to hide things, like if the DOJ, who is a member of Interpol, comes & arrests you, then they are immune from having to release why they arrested you.

      That is Obama’s & the other Liberal’s goal, to have a One World Government. They don’t just want us to be like Europe, they want us to be apart of it. They want everything to be equal, so they “Regurgitate the Apple” so they can complete their utopian society. That is why Obama apologizes for America everywhere he goes & then wants to give terrorist, who are not cover by the Constitution, Constitutional rights. Utopia can not exist as long as there is good & evil, so America can’t be that good & the terrorist can’t be that evil. Closing Guantanamo is just another way to do that. It says, see the terrorist isn’t that bad, they deserve the same justice that any American would get. It doesn’t matter that they are not citizens nor that they would love to do nothing more than cut off the head of every American, they are the same. Their mind set is, so the terrorist want to subjugate us, haven’t we done the same thing in our past.

    Here’s a suggestion I have for President Obama’s State of the Union Address. For two hours, keep quiet. Then show newsreels on what happend on 09/11/2001. Show people jumping to their deaths from the World Trade Center buildings rather than be burned alive. Show the Pentagan in flames with brave Americans being incinerated. Show the wreckage of the plane brought down by brave Americans in Pennslyvania. Show the news clips of Arab Muslims dancing in the street that day in our own country and overseas. Show all the emergency responders weeping for their fallen and injured comrades. Show the anguish on the faces of relatives and fiends who lost love ones that day. And most of all, show some guts and admit we are at war with Islamist Terrorists. And all the member of Congress and the Senate should do the same. Now that would be a great State of the Union speech. But you and all the gutless politicians in Washington will never do it. Because in reality, none of you care about America.

      He doesn’t care about our security. He just wants to get this health care reform bill passed before he does his state of the union address. That is his only goal – he want’s to have accomplished at least one of the things he said he would – even if it is to the detriment of the American People. What does he care? He is an idiot and I can’t believe he got elected. Saddest day :-( ! Now we are all paying with his “CHANGE”.

        In 8 separate speeches before he was elected he PROMISED that any health care debate would be publicly witnessed on C-Span. What happened to transparency in government? There is a reason for all this back door quiet. BIG MONEY and payoffs. This should all be illegal – where’s the lawyers that want to tackle the constitutionality of these actions?

      Who cares if it offends the Muslim/Islamist factions? I could care less. They already have a cause, because we are alive.

    So Obama changed course yesterday on the transfer of these 90 terrorists back to Yemen. Some Commander in Chief he is. When you prosecute 3 Navy Seals for giving a terrorist a fat lip, you’re really sending a strong message to our enemies. When you provide American Legal Rights to a Terrorist, you’re really sending a strong message to our enemies. The message is, you can do anything you want to us and we wont do anything to you. So Mr. President, when we are attacked again, what will be your response? I know, you’ll tell all us Americans it’s George Bush’s fault and we deseved it. Why don’t you just admit it, you’re weak on National Defense and could give a damn about the security of Americans. Go play with your buddy, Rahm Emanuel. He’s loving every minute of this.

      Unfortunately this is one of the few things he can say Bush started and be right. I agree with ex-mayor Julianni(sp?) this morning. It’s not a question of whether Bush was always right, he wasn’t. It’s a question of taking what Bush did right and continuing it and taking what he did wrong and correcting it. Unfortunately he isn’t doing that!!!!!
