Research Suggests Vitamin C May Also Boost Memory
November 2, 2009 by Personal Liberty News Desk
While vitamin C is mainly known as an immunity-enhancing antioxidant, a new study from Denmark has found that babies deficient in the vitamin may be at an elevated risk for mental development and memory problems.
Scientists from the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen demonstrated that guinea pigs with moderate vitamin C deficiency develop 30 percent fewer hippocampal neurons, a type of brain cells, and have significantly worse spatial memory than those fed a normal diet.
The researchers chose guinea pigs for the study because, just like humans, they depend on getting vitamin C through their diet.
Professor Jens Lykkesfeldt, who led the research group, said that the research suggests children may also be at risk of learning disabilities if they receive insufficient levels of vitamin C in early life.
"This is unbearable when it would be so easy to prevent this deficiency by giving a vitamin supplement to high-risk pregnant women and new mothers," he adds.
Vitamin C is widely available as a nutritional supplement in health stores or via alternative medicine websites.

This topic has been going on for many years. It boggles the mind that America still has MDs who will tell you that Vitamin C’s role in good health is questionable. More and more, many people understand that Linus Pauling was more than right. It’s “modern medical science” that’s questionable, and relies on misinformation, quack science and fear to make lots of easy money for its practitioners.
The basic flaw in the AMA’s mindset would have us believe that we must not trust natural things. If that’s true, then we have no reason to eat food (right?). It’s up to us to drag ‘medical science’ kicking and screaming into the 21st century (do you have to be reminded that politicians aren’t interested in solving health care problems?).
Is there anyone out there who doesn’t know that our medical geniuses plan to deny us the right to take supplements? People, that’s NOT science or integrity. THAT’S BUSINESS! It’s the same mentality tht occasionally toys with the idea of ‘ridding’ us of the Second Amendment.
It’s a matter of FREEDOM. It’s a matter of integrity, responsibility and helping those who need it. Anyone who tells you that government knows best is NOT your friend.
How many hard lessons do we have to learn before we can rightfully claim that we DESERVE to be FREE from ALL forms of tyranny?
This is not the first time the connection between Vit C and memory have been proven. I can’t remember the other study, but it proved Vit C helped prevent Alzheimers.
S C is right too. There is a gross level of prejudice in the medical community against any suggestion that nutritional supplements do anything more than help with the day to day functionality of your body, but they have no long term impact on your bodies health. I know, it’s absurd, but it’s true. You can thank the fine integration of the pharmaceutical companies in with the medical societies and especially with the medical schools. It’s nothing short of criminal.
I mean it’s absurd that the medical community things that. Of course, nutrition has everything to do with the long term of your bodies health, including it’s ability to fight cancer and heart disease. To suggest otherwise mocks reason, and yet that’s what the medical community suggests … that there is no link. Don’t believe me? Ask your doctor if there is a link between vitamins and cancer or vitamins and heart disease. His/her response will blow you away – they’ve been taught to say that by the pharmaceutical industry.
National health care wouldn’t be needed if people read more about the Healing effects of Vitamin C. Dosage is most important and method of receiving that dose is important also. Good health is giving your body what it needs to fight infections and virus’s. Mothers to be should be taking 2-3 grams daily to insure their babies health. Your children should continue to receive 2 grams daily. More if they are sick.
I know this is an old post, but I am hoping that someone will know the answer. How much Vitamin C does a parent give a child before and after vaccinations? I have also seen another post that suggests giving vitamin A, zinc and transfer factor. I have never heard of transfer factor. What is it? I am trying to protect my child from the free radicals that I am reading can attack the childs’ brain and neurotransmitters.
Thank you.
