And the Great Depression you mentioned was caused by the government protectionism bestowed upon favored businesses. The resultant tariffs caused a backlash from our trading partners (Balkanization). World trade slowed dramatically.
In the more recent past, ACORN and other Liberal groups strong-armed the Banking industry (through the courts and other thug-like actions) into making loans to subprime borrowers who as history shows defaulted on their loans and caused the unraveling of our economy. Dave, you just can’t admit that the Medicare Advantage bill cost 1.1 trillion unfunded dollars can you? Glen as usual doesn’t understand how this crisis started or even when it started. The basic concept that you people are missing is that if you don’t reform it now, there won’t be any Medicare left to reform as it was never funded in the first place. I’d say at least 85% are. Jurys out on the newcommers. I’ll give them a full year before bestowing that distinguished title upon them. My gut feeling is that 90% of them will fit the bill and join the other 85%.

Well, in order to vote wisely we need to remember the original purpose and intent of the two parties. The right wing is originally set up to reserve funds and resourses for our military so that our country stays safe. And anything left over will help those in need that really cannot go to work and provide for themselves. The left wing is originally set up to come up with ways to help the needy but must stay in the bounds of available resources and not strip folks of thier diginity. It has come to the place to where both the right wing and the left wing care more about agendas , which as a result raise taxes, than keeping our country safe and helping those who are truly in need. April, that is basically how I was raised and how I was educated(50′s and 60′s). I may not have liked some of the way things were, but I did have respect for my teachers and my parents and others. I learned that I had to work in order to meet my needs, not to rely on anyone else for anything. If I got out of line, I got a few licks from the leather belt or wooden paddle, which I probably deserved. I never considered calling the cops and crying abuse. I am thankful for that experiance as I feel it made me a better person. I expect nothing from no one. When I was down and out, my friends stood up and helped me get through it, moraly and financialy. That was because of a trust and real freindships that have been nurtured for many years. I paid back every cent, without so much as a “when will you pay me back” whisper, before I ever spent a dime for myself.
It was a much simplar time.

I survived 12 years of Catholic school. Then I made the mistake of going to a Public College. The economics book I was told to get for 101 was the same exact book I used in my Junior year of High School. What struck me the most when going to Public College was the extreme liberalism of the college professors. I found out very quickly that if you disagreed with their principals or ideals, you paid a price. Their retribution could lead to a lower grade on one of your papers and the worst being singled out amount all the student’s in the classroom in a derogatory manner. Complaining to the school dean just made matters worse. Two years after graduating, the college lost their accreditation. Seems the professors teaching all the courses didn’t measure up to the minimum standards of the College board. It took several years before that college gained backed their accreditation. Today, unless your a political science major, all other courses taught concentrate on the course’s subject matter and only the subject matter is discussed in class and free of subjected opinions by the professor. So maybe the lesson learned here that Obama might want to contemplate is: “If I continue going down this policy path, will my accreditation be taken away in 2012.” As far as this czar is concerned, he needs to go. I’m sure he would find work in San Franscisco. Nancy will hire him.

April, here in Fl. we have a 40% non graduation rate from our schools. Obviously the parents are not involved the way they were during a different time in history. If I would have been failing at school, I would not have seen the lite of day. I was a military brat, and used to get grounded to bedroom, one month for every minute I was past curfew. Grounded to bedroom for entire semester, until I pulled grades up. Spent total of 1 year 3 days grounded during high school. I do respect peoples time and am never late for anything. Parents of today, want to be friends with their children, and they don’t spend any time with them. When children fail, it is the parents fault. Very few times can the parent be excluded from being responsible. My father still checked to see what I was learning during senior yr. He felt that exposure to various points of view would not harm me as by the time you get to high school, you have your morals and behavior preety well set, and he would be there for me during the times, I would make the wrong decisions. I believe most parents, really don’t have parenting skills, and are too concerned that their children like them.

Sorry to disappoint you there private BillyJ, God has always been my Commander And Chief, and will always be. I do fly a 747 with citizens on board, but it is a private flight all over the world. I’ve flown many top brass citizens, actors, families, and some won’t take another flight out unless it is me. You see you can’t judge a person until you have met them. So I doubt you have ever been fortunate enough to fly on one of my 747′s, so until you do, stay with what you know. By the way if the prez is commander and chief, he’s sure doing a lousy job. My neighbor is from Checkoslovakia. He and wife fled to US in the early 70s. They have seen this all before and don’t hold out much hope for the United States.
He is convinced Obama and crew are going to shut down Glenn Beck and others. We must decide now that if anything like that happens, we vote out all incumbents. And put in their place people who will work hard to greatly reduce the size of Big Government.

libertytrain, I was watching Fox, while Brian Kilmeade was interviewing Dana Perino, when she stated that ” towards the end, the Bush administration largely froze out MSNBC. So, like it or not, it has been done before. Also, Clinton, Bush Sr., Regan, and Nixon all had journalists and news stations that they refused to be interviewed by and didn’t grant entry in the immediate proxcimity of the main body of journalists. Seems as though all Presidents have the right and use that right to avoid those journalists and networks they don’t like. Nothing new here.

My good friend and step-father came here from Warsaw after being removed from his family by the Nazi’s and sent to a work camp in Norway in 1943. He has said this seems all to familiar to what transpired in the 30′s and 40′s Germany. He won’t say Obama is moving in Hitler’s footsteps, but he does say Americans need to realize how much freedom we can lose if Obama is successful.

Obama and crew are launching an all out effort to take over our economy. From the Washington Post:
“U.S. pay czar Kenneth Feinberg emphasized his ability to claw back pay at any company receiving a taxpayer bailout, but said such an extreme action ‘will be rare and far between.’ Feinberg said he has not really explored how he would use the claw-back power and would only exercise it when he finds “an egregious fact pattern.”

No doubt that ‘egregious fact pattern’ will be – do they or do they not support Obama’s policies.

Obama recently approved a 2% salary increase for all federal employees effective January 1, 2010. Members of the executive, legislative and judicial branch are due for an automatic pay increase in January as well. All this on the backs of seniors who will not incur any COLA increases for several years.
For the first time in history, the Congress will not allow an increase in the social security COLA (cost of living adjustment).
Not only is this wrong, but how much are those non vetted Czars getting? These men and probably some women have the power to tax without us having any representation from these taxes, and make laws to suit themselves. this is wrong.

Disturbing to hear our youth is being used.

I will keep this short and sweet: the German children had the “benefit” of a stimulus plan, as well. However, at least the stimulus plan of the Third Reich was intended for the leadership PRIOR to Hitler. A number of inter-connecting “stimulations” came into effect in the early 1930′s (most notably the Reinhard plan), yet the common misconception is that the stimululations of those bills actually were the determining factor in Germany’s recovery from the Depression. Current studies indicate that Germany, more than likely, would have benefitted from a natural economic progression from PRIVATE industry rather than a state-oriented “guidance.” In other words, domestic, average-citizen spending suffered in the mid-1930′s because, like Obama’s plan, NO private entrepreneurship was encouraged. Large govt. and large corporations filled the vacuum of democracy. In other words, the United States should avoid placing its hands into the tax dollars (and private lives, furthermore) of Americans in the name of a manufactured “recovery.” Capitalism is far from infallible, yet it is superior to the prying of govt. Yet, at least the Third Reich spent much of its own “stimulus” funds on national defense (or offense, depending on the way one looks upon it)- where is this govt’s stimulus money being allocated? Rearmaments is one thing, corrupt social programs and the shipping of jobs across seas is a whole disparate problem…

By the way, I am 25 and I do not need a handout. I grew up in a tough household, and I place my faith in my own actions to determine where I end up. Life is not fair, only work and discipline is: some win, some lose. Either way, I pride myself in being a penultimate American- unlike Obama, I will earn my path. Even if I am to fail, I can pride myself that I am still stronger than him. I do not speak through my nose like Barney Frank- I am strong…I admire older generations than me… will an older individual (preferably from the early Cold War years) please stand up and reinforce my belief in this American system? When your generation moves on, I need encouragement to inherit and carry the torch…
