Poll Shows Falling Support For Gun Control Laws, Says CCRKBA

October 14, 2009 by

Poll shows falling support for gun control laws, says CCRKBA A new Rasmussen poll has found only 39 percent of Americans believe the country needs stricter gun laws, according to the Citizen’s Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA).

The survey comes just days after the Supreme Court announced it will hear a case on whether the right to keep and bear arms secured by the Second Amendment protects Americans.

McDonald v. City of Chicago, brought by four Chicago residents, the Second Amendment Foundation and the Illinois State Rifle Association, seeks to strike down a decades-old Chicago law that bans handguns and requires the annual taxation of firearms.

The results of the poll suggest the number of Americans in favor of gun control dropped in the last six months. Moreover, 65 percent of respondents who are Democrats support tighter gun laws while 69 percent of Republicans and 62 percent of independents do not

"The American public has wised up to the fact that prohibitive gun control measures … have not stopped violent crime and only disarm the victims," says CCRKBA chairman Alan Gottlieb.

"Americans are concerned about their personal safety and the safety of their families, and they have had it with Utopian gun bans that leave them defenseless against merciless thugs," he adds.

CCRKBA is a non-profit organization that works to preserve firearms freedoms through lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grassroots organization of local gun rights activists.

It’s looking more and more like we are about to have a huge crop of OUTLAWS pop up in our great nation. But you know what’s really sad? They were all law abiding people at one time. Hard working, honest folks with integrity. The kind of person who’s hand shake was worth more than any lawyer prepared contract. The kind of neighbors that we trusted so much that we never locked our house’s or garage because they might want to borrow something. That way of life was the most precious of memories for me.

NAY. Do you still carry the bulky old mobile phones? Techno is upon us and high tech rifles require high tech bullets. We need to petition the retailers for lower prices. Not enough competiton according to DAveH, that is the solution for everything.

        Eyeswideshut,
You are free to buy your expensive non-lead ammo. If you can’t find it in the stores, then reload your own. You can also join forces with
your Liberal buds to form your own companies producing “high-tech” ammo.
Nobody is trying to take your freedom away. Quite to the contrary, it is you who advocates freedom-taking.

Remember that Surgeon General dressed in the Salvation Army uniform years ago? When asked about gun violence she offered this profound solution ” We have to start making safer bullets.”. Considering the bunch we have in Washington now, I’d say she would be the sharpest tack in the pack today.

As far as Gun control, you may want to take alook at this Administrations back door Gun Grab inside a tax bill as listed below
It begins… more Freedom gone… the right to protect yourself and your family gone! Now ALL GUNS must be listed on your next (2010) tax return! Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 ~ 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It will require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun. This bill was introduced on February 24, 2009, by the Obama staff. BUT, this bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after the new law becomes effective! This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee has passed this without the Senate voting on it at all.

Trust Obama? You must be kidding! The full text of the IRS amendment
is on the U.S. Senate homepage: http://www.senate.gov. You can find the bill by doing a
search by the bill number, SB-2099. You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know.

Text of H.R.45 as Introduced in House: Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text
Obama’s Congress is now starting on the firearms confiscation bill. If it
passes, gun owners will become criminals if you don’t fully comply. It has begun.
Whatever Obama’s “Secret Master Plan” is… this is just the ‘tip of the
    iceberg!’

    Very Important for you to
be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House. This
is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act
of 2009. Even gun shop owners didn’t know about this because the government is
trying to fly it under the radar as a ‘minor’ IRS revision, and, as usual, the ‘political’lawmakers did not read this bill before signing and approving it!
To find out about this go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm ~ any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
    1) It is registered
    2) You are finerprinted
    3) You supply a current Driver’s License
    4) You supply your Social Security number
    5) You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their
choosing Each update change or > ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25. Failure to do so, you automatically lose the
right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. > Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under
    18. They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 years in prison.
If you think this is a joke ~ go to the web site and take your pick of many
options to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family pass
    this along.
This is just a “termite” approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense ~ chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes
it.. This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not..

Secondly, We the Christian Americans that actually Love our Christian Nation.

    • eyeswideopen

And your point is? There is nothing ridiculous about the requirements. Even paying a $25.00 xfer fee is not unjust, every time you xfer a vehicle you have to pay a title transfer. This is after all, a fire arm. A gun has the ability to kill recklessly. As a person who already has a carry permit, this is no different. We have alread discussed this issue on this site, and most of the gun owners didn’t have a problem with registering, or reporting a lost or stolen gun. Responsible gun ownership is how you get the general public who doesn’t deal with firearms to feel safe and confident that you know how and when to handle a gun. Local politican in this city, had his gun stolen and didn’t report it for two days. He hadn’t bothered to lock it in his trunk, he left car unlocked with gun in console. That type of ownership gives everyone a black eye. It was recovered during commission of crime. Polls are showing that more people are acknowledging that gun ownership, by responsible owners is not something that should be banned. What part about the HR45 don’t you like? The fingerprinting? Not guilty–no problem.

      • cr747

Only thing you are guilty of, IS BEING AN IDIOT, JUST LIKE MOST OF THEM IN WASHINGTON

  • Robert Rowlett Sr

I believe in gun control. Every body should be able to hit a 300 yard moving target. Let’s not lose this freedom.

    • JeffH

gun control is hitting what you aim at

  • Alan Clark

    I gotta tell ya, In the words of the Late GREAT JOHN WAYNE;

“The reason they made the second ammendment was just in case they forget the rest of em”

    • JeffH

Thats right pilgrim! If the anti-gun legislators weren’t such “COWARDS”, they would insist on enforcing the current anti-crime laws and go after criminals instead of trying to force the honest citizen into breaking the law. It is easier to find and arrest an honest law abiding citizen. Think about it?

    • keith

dead on!!!john wayne was a real american, god bless em!

  • Christy

The reason the government wants to have control and strict gun laws that they propose, is so that they will have control over the American people. Remember how Hitler came into control.
The gun laws that are on the books and enforced are enough. We do not need Government control. From the Brady camp on down thru the years they were howlong ” GUN CONTROL”, THEY SHOULD REALIZE THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS PENALIZED IS THE HONEST LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, GUN CONTROL HELPS ONLY THE CRIMNAL AND THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE OVER OUR LIVES. WE NEED TO CONTROL THE GOVERNMENT, THEY TOOK A OATH TO UPHOLD THE CONSTUTION AND ALL THEY DO IS TRASH IT

    • ccg

Christy I agree you with 100%. We need to vote the ones that are in OUT. Then we need to demand term limits.

      • s c

CCG, politicians are weasels. You have to impose your own ‘term limits’ by never letting ANYONE have consecutive terms. As long as we use good intentions, politicians will ALWAYS have the upper hand.
Besides, no one should think our weasels in Congress would EVER impose term limits on themelves. That would be like a criminal having enough integrity or honor to do the right thing. Politicians can’t be trusted. Why is that so hard for people to understand? Why make it easy for people who have NO USE for us? Give responsible people a chance to get into politics. NEVER GIVE A ANYONE A CHANCE TO BECOME A CAREER POLITICIAN! SOLVE THE PROBLEM!

  • DaveH

It amazes me how many people are afraid of gun-owners, but they do not seem to have a problem with the police carrying guns. And the police shoot the wrong person far more often than the private citizens do. I’m not putting down police, it is just reality. The actual victims of the crime know far better who the criminal is at the scene than the Johnny-come-lately police do. Also, the police are much less likely to suffer severe repercussions for wrongful shootings than are the private citizens.

    • JeffH

DaveH, It is sad that people can have such fear of gun owners. If some would ever attend training facilities like the Front Sight Training institute, created by Dr. Ignatius Piazza, in Las Vegas
or Gunsight Academy, founded by the great Col. Jeff Cooper, in Arizona

Both are extrordinary educators in gun safety, training of civilians, police, military and foreign civilians, police and military.
They not only offer various types of defensive training, but also educate to overcome the fear of guns.

    • eyeswideopen

People are afraid, as they read the crap on posts like these and you expect them to feel safe when a bunch of nuts are talking about going to DC and take back our country, can’t wait for the election as then it will be too late. Are you serious, we scare the hell out of normal non gun owning people. We sound like a bunch of hotheads who are radical. How can you be incredious? Don’t you read this stuff? You are just becoming numb. Or you are radical along with them and don’t see anything wrong with the ass kicking and them’s a fighten words. You don’t want the other side to even have the right to speak, and yet you can’t see why anyone would think you are radical in your thinking? And that is why they don’t want us to have guns.

  • Keith H

Yes, gun laws doesn’t stop crimes, because first of all the guns the criminals have are already illegal, like the AK 47 and other machine guns.We just have to make sure no lunatics are allowed to get their hands on dangerous weapons.

    • JeffH

I agree somewhat with you comment, except that AK 47′s are machine guns. Yes, there are fully automatic AK 47′s, just not for sale to anyone that wants one.
To generalize is exactly what the anti-gun advocates do. Fully automatic rifles are not available to the general gun buyers, only to Class III license holders. Just because a rifle or pistol looks “bad” doesn’t mean that they are. There are plenty of AK 47′s and AR 15′s that are nothing more than one shot semi-auto rifles used for target shooting and hunting.

  • Terry

I was in Australia during the great “gun buy back” after the Port Arthur massacre.. Guess who got to keep their weapons? the criminals, that’s who.. and that will be the case here should this crazy Government get it’s way.. Beware of any attempt to regulate the second amendment.

  • D R

Listen to Alan. Join the NRA. Remember that the Second Amendment makes no mention of deer hunting. The framers of the Constitution gave the People the right to keep arms for the day “they” come to take them away.

    • J.T

      VERY WELL SAID D R

  • s c

Americans support the Second Amendment because our worthless government preaches freedom and practices slavery. Politicians need constant reminders, and the best reminder is the knowledge that America has weapons that our government will never be able to confiscate.
Some morons in our midst think mankind has ‘evolved’ and can do without weapons. Look at Congress. Congress is proof that Darwin was an idiot.
Our Washington power-hungry wolves need to be reminded that freedom isn’t free. They also need to remember that planned slavery will be more than ‘expensive’ to the Washington crowd – and their ‘friends.’ Any time Washington wants to test the issue, let the weasels go for it!

    • DaveH

I love your first sentence SC. Well put.

    • JeffH

      Way to go S C!

  • Alan Clark

All I can say to all of this is, if you are not a member of the NRA, join now. I can think of no stronger voice on behalf of legal gun owners better to uphold the right to keep and bear arms. The only thing I would add is; if you reload your own ammo, keep loading and spend as much time at the range as possible. Get training in handgun self defense courses and become as proficient a shooter as you possibly can. Practice, practice, practice.

    • DaveH

This is a gun-rights group that I think is more potent dollar-for-dollar than the NRA:
      http://gunowners.org/

      • JeffH

DaveH, Gunowners of America is very strong, but they haven’t achieved the strength, and recognition in Washington DC that the NRA has. We need both of them and membership to either one will help preserve the Second Amendment and freedom.

      • DaveH

They are very militant about our gun rights. And they make it easy for their members to contact congressmen.
I got turned off on the NRA decades ago because they made the gun-rights issue seem like a sporting issue, and since most people don’t hunt the result was a great weakening of the pro-gun movement.

      • JeffH

That is your choice, and I respect that. The ILA branch of the NRA has been very receptive to me personaly during the fight to defeat AB962 and SB585. Being a hunter and a casual target shooter, I have always looked at the NRA as supporting both fairly equaly. We need them both to preserve our freedom.

      • L.A.Warner

        JeffH,
You should pay particular attention to the unnecessary concessions made by the NRA that the GOA doesn’t. The GOA is growing while the NRA is actually losing members. The GOA actually strikes more fear in Washington. You should also pay close attention to the JPFO (Jews for the Protection of Firearms Ownership) they have some very good videos that should be seen by ALL Americans.

      • JeffH

I am familiar with them all. It is very important to support all of them. Without them, we will lose our Second Amendment.

  • http://guncontrol Eileen Barayasarra

I am alive because I have a pistol. In 2005 a criminal member of a Mexican gang came in my home. He was high on drugs and running from police. He was 24 and a big fellow. He resembles Mike Tyson except he is Mexican. I was able to defend myself. I was 66 and no match for him without the pistol. He left in the ambulance and I did not! Those who would take away my pistol- – when a criminal invades your home, do you plan to just stand there and look stupid? What will you do? Scream?? Nobody will hear you and he will kill you FASTER if you scream! Police later found a STOLEN pistol in his car. If guns are outlawed do you suppose he would turn in his STOLEN guns? I paid for my pistol and I plan to keep it. I am alive to tell about it ONLY BECAUSE I HAD A PISTOL!

    • Robert P

You goooooo girl!! I love hearing these stories. I wish this kind of story would be shouted across this still (somewhat) free nation!!

      • L.A.Warner

If you get any of the NRA magazines, each issue has a page called “The Armed Citizen” which has several stories like this. I love reading them.

    • ccg

Wow, good for you Eileen. I am proud of you for standing up for your self. Thank you for sharing your story. Everyone needs to hear this.

  • ONTIME

How can Rasmussen claim there is failing support for gun law by applying their statement?

There is a rebellion brewing because of political misuse of law to force higher cost and taxes onto the legal gun owner by redundant and mandated law that has little or no effect on criminal activity, Leno of Ca. is a perfect example of the kind of idiocy that is angering more gun owners who wish to obey the reasonable law and not be called criminal because on non compliance with ineffective law.

These kind of politicians are making more blue laws that will be used in a court of law whenever they are challeged, the chances of repeal will take years and they full well know this. These people are as much a crimianal as those who commit actual crimes with a gun and they put ordinary people in greater jeopardy by their obstinance to common sense.

This kind of politician does not deserve to hold office. Rasmussen needs to review their data.

    • Robert P

Good point. It’s actually pretty scarey if the Rasmussen poll is accurate. I hate to think that 2 0f 5 Americans think we need more gun control!! Of course, (supposedly) about that many (45%?) think we need govt run health care too.

Numbers in polls mean nothing to the clowns we have in congress and the senate, just look at the health care issue, they know a majority of the population is against it but they don’t give a damn they will pass what they want to pass its the same with gun rights and every other freedom or supposed freedom we have, those bastards are going to do what they want to do , the only way to change this is at the ballot box, vote em out on there ear, put term limits in place and try to undo the destruction the current crop has brought us.

A good start would be that those in the senate and congress be the last ones to be given the swine flu vaccine after every American receives theirs. Victory thru attrition is a beautiful thing. • eyeswideopen

Hey, Chuck, you can’t agrue with the facts. You can’t rewrite history. Facts are easy to deal with, they can’t can’t lie.

      • DaveH

Yep, like the fact that you Liberals want to force your lifestyles on your fellow citizens.

      • Rose Beeson

Mr. Eyeswideopen, Sir, you must not listen to the news or read the new history books. History can be changed. People are doing it all the time. Sad isn’t it. I am a registered democrat, but I have become disgusted with all the hogwash. People are taking our rights away and I for one am standing up to them. Right is right and wrong is wrong and this country is definitely going in the wrong direction faster than one can keep up with it. Wake up before it is too late!

      • eyeswideopen

Daveh, you know you are the only one using the word FORCE all the time. Government is Force, is your mantra. Well, my government might be a screwed up mess at this time, but it is still better than anarchy at any time. Why you want to give even more control to the rich is beyond me. Don’t they have enough of our money? If they just paid their own taxes (off shore accts.) I would be very happy. Just those at UBS in Switzerland are estimated to be 52,000 to the tune of 186 billion, but we can only get approx 4800 of them, as it is not illegal in Switzerland to hide from paying your taxes. I resent the rich using our infrastructure and not paying anything towards it.

      • eyeswideopen

Rose, sorry sweetie, you can’t change history, it is the past, you can however change the future.

      • eyeswideopen

You are right Dave, I would like for most people to have my life. I worked hard to achieve it, but it would make me very happy for millions to have a similar life. Allowing them to have the opportuntity for such as life is not a bad thing. I am not forcing anything on them, unlike you, who wants Corporate American to run wild with no restraints or regulations. Anarchy is something I want to avoid at all costs.

As more criminals and undesirables gravitate to positions of authority in government, why wouldn’t they want to have us register every gun and know who has what. The criminals have practiced their trade for many years in our society of “compassion” and tolerance. The president and his merry men, talk about more individual responsibility and then, give the offenders a pass. Those who work hard, study and apply themselves somehow that’s not fair, they must be targeted and punished.

    • Robert

And let’s not give a pass to those 6 year old boy scout terrorists who bring their lethal survival weapons to show and tell. Those are the ones I’m afraid of Alice. Let’s all demand that the Washington know it all’s give the death penalty to that 6 year old criminal. Where’s Obama on this one? He sure had a lot to say about his buddy being arrested by that deranged cop. Or the reverand Al for that matter. Where’s his outrage on another example of racism? You know if it were a minority kid, he would have been water boarded and put in a dungeon without legal representation. Damn 6 year old terrorists. And steralize those parents while we’re at it. They wont be able to breed any more of them criminals.

Note that most Democrats, as usual, are disrespecting our freedom.

gun control is a socialist ajender

  • Robin from Indiana

Why anyone thinks that gun control is going to stop crime is really living in a fantasy world. Criminals don’t play by the rules. They are not rule followers, which is why they are criminals.

    • ashforkdan
