Support for healthcare bill declines as Republicans intensify criticism As Congress heads off for summer recess, after having failed to debate the healthcare proposal, a new poll has found Americans are increasingly concerned about its final shape.

The New York Times/CBS News poll suggests people worry that overhauling the healthcare system will reduce the quality of care, increase health costs and tax bills and limit their options in choosing doctors and treatments, according to Dallas Morning News.

Specifically, a total of 69 percent have said a decline in quality will result from the government running a program that will provide universal coverage.

House minority leader John Boehner of Ohio appears to have understood the public sentiment when he said at a recent luncheon sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor that "what was promised and what was delivered don’t add up and people are upset about it," quoted by PoliticsDaily.com.

He also said the bill, which is now scheduled to be debated in September, will "get shredded" because the more people learn about its provisions the less they will like it.

Similarly, Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele has blasted President Obama for pushing a healthcare agenda that he believes will slow the economy, increase the deficit and make healthcare worse for those who already have insurance.

    Why can’t there be health care for only the ones who don’t have it?
    Why group all of us who have health care with everyone else?
    And I’m not referring to all the people that are here without papers,
    from across the border or else where.What has happened to America?
    I want more tea parties and have the American people depend on
    their self worth and achievements,not big brother,or big
    goverment.Obama scares me All those people he put in his
    cabinet or else where just remind me of the mafia.He apparently
    does’nt like his country very much.

    Evidently Virginia has not read any parts of the proposed healthcare bill. Don’t feel bad, Virginia! The Congressmen and Senators have not read it either! You are in good company. You or I will never get the kind of coverage those people have. You and I will get whatever they decide we can have. Wait 3 years to see a specialist. That means your overworked family practice dr. says you have cancer or a bad heart, you wait 3 years to see the cancer or heart doctor! Most people save the government a lot of money by dying while waiting! My son lives in North Idaho about 100 miles south of Canada. You can hardly get in to a hospital in CoeurD’Alene Idaho or Spokane, WA due to the parking lot being full of Canadian vehicles. These are only the Canadians who can afford to pay cash. POOR Canadians have to sit at home waiting to die. Our government is already managing a healthcare system. VA Hospitals! Some are very good, but some are terrible! I have had 3 elderly uncles treated at the Boise Idaho VA. It is excellent for the most part. So is Albuquerque NM where another uncle and a cousin have been treated. But, when my uncle lived in southern NM, I took him to the El Paso VA and it was a filthy dump! He was on the same 20 medications for 20 years and felt lousy the entire time there. When he had to move in with his daughter north of Albuquerque, they were quick to take him off all 20 and replace them with 3. He felt 20 years younger! VA care is hit-or-miss, depending on where you happen to be. Is that what we want here? There are good and bad hospitals in my area. I have the choice to not go to the bad ones NOW! Will I under the government plan? I doubt it. We now have the choice of suing a bad doctor or hospital for malpractice or carelessness. Will we under the government plan? We will have no choice and we will have to just take our chances. Frankly, the chances do not sound promising under the government plan. A word to the wise- – if you ever sue a doctor or a hospital, no other doctor will accept you as a patient. We were warned about that after our local hospital and (one nurse and one doctor) almost killed my husband twice in two days. We did not sue because he has a terminal illness and HAS to have doctors! Medical care is far from perfect here now. PLEASE DO NOT LET THE GOVERNMENT MAKE IT WORSE! Virginia, I think you need to go back to watching Soap Operas and American Idol and not bother your little head about any of this. Either that or READ THE BILL! There is a part about “increasing the time between pregnancies” (FORCED ABORTIONS??) and there is a part about not treating elderly and counseling them to just let nature take it’s course or make other end-of-life decisions. That means denying treatment, Virginia! That means either giving them enough pain meds so they die in peace or else letting them suffer as they die. EITHER WAY, THEY DIE! I am not ready to accept that.

How do they expect me to believe that they can run health care when they cannot even run a simple 1 Bil Cash for clunkers, let alone a Trillion dollar Health care program.

    As a lifelong Democrat, I have to draw the line at turning over my healthcare to the government. I have seen what they (both parties) have done to Medicare and Social Security. I do not want the same for health insurance and health care. I have no confidence in this issue with either party, but passing a healthcare bill on the backs of the elderly really takes the cake. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that if there is a so called public option, it will not be long before that is the only option. Barney Frank said as much. Virginia says I can keep my health insurance. My question to her is, “How do I keep an option after the company is no longer in business?” Like I said, it doesn’t take a genius. I guess I’ll have to execise my option to become an independent, because it is clear my Democratic Senators and Representative do not plan to represent me in congress.

A republic is “a state or NATION (emphasis added) in which the supreme power rests in all the citizens entitled to vote and is expressed by representatives elected, directly or directly, by them and RESPONSIBLE TO THEM (emphasis added). Webster’s New World Dictionary of the American Language. In this case, the word “Republican” merely means, of or having the characteristics of a republic. There you go. That’s probably why Abraham Lincoln, in his Gettysburg Address, said “government of the people, by the people and for the people.”

    This brand of a national health care bill never really had the support of any majority except for those in the majority party and a few RINO’s in the congress, it was a farce and was an attempt to force down the throats of the public but it wound up sticking in the craw of those who saw thru it and may very well be shoved up the rectum of those who created it, let’s hope so. In the mean time while this battle was fought the devious parasites of the left in the congress have managed to distract and hide the enactment of other useless ruinous bills, we now need to turn our attention to this matter.

    Oftentimes we must be reminded that earning one’s keep in a democratic republic is a requirement and that holding one’s hand out to beg may lead to the loss of that hand and enslavement results if one expects the government to to replace that need for independence.

Congress will not go on this health care, and by the way they don’t pay into social secrurity either, they have their own plan that always goes up it’s rigged so they can never loose money. The federal government is suppose to work for the citizens and the states not the other way around.

    I do not and cannot trust the government to provide for my health care. Social Security is bankrupt, Medicare is bankrupt and now they want us to sign off on a bill they have not read. This is a joke…wake up America!

    An elderly friend of mine recently had to contact Social Security and the VA about his wife’s death. It took him an entire day dealing with the incompetent government workers. Just wait until we get health care. More incompetents, waste and fraud.

    Maybe I looked at the wrong health care bill, but I see a lot of money that will be spent on educating minority people that no one has talked about. I haven’t seen anything about the good old middle class white folks being offered the opportunity.
    This seems very racist to me.
    I don’t think education for nurses, Doctors, social workers should be added to the cost. I also don’t understand how you can cover illegals, but not cover seniors citizens. It looks like they want to get votes from illegals, and cut down on their cost for seniors.

      Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus – and Yes, Virginia, the Republicans do have a couple healthcare plans (Demint has one- Pawlenty has another and both have abeen presented to congress), but both of these men say the DemocRATS will not even consider listening to them or reading their bill. You see, it has to do with whoever is pulling Obama’s strings. And right now it seems to be “Chicago politics” as usual. DemocRATS want their bull passed and don’t want to hear any other side. All I have seen, read, and heard about the DemocRATic congress is that their way is the only way, regardless of what the American People want.       First of all, Virginia, this is not the president’s plan. Congressional Democrats wrote it. You know what happens when a committee writes a bill.

      As for Republicans, the Democrats shut them out. The Republicans have their own plan, but the Democrats won’t let them present it.

    My husband is 71 and has cancer. I am not ready to allow anyone to “OFF” him yet. We must fight this attempt to pass COMMIE CARE with every ounce of our strength! Equally important is fighting the BLAIR HOLT GUN BILL. It has never been more important for citizens to be able to defend ourselves- – from ENEMIES BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC. In 2005 a man high on drugs came in my home. My pistol saved my life. Now I must fight this socialized medicine to save my husband. Most people are too dumb to pay attention. It may pass due to lack of interest on the part of people who have the power to stop it if only they would. That is the consequence of THE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA!

Help pass it to let other people be on the plan if they choose. Everyone in the US has a right to choose, but let us have that right. Millions of Americans have no insurance. Don’t you want the same kind of insurance that all the Congressman have? I don’t understand why everyone is kicking and screaming about it all. I want to have a choice, either keep the plan I have, buy another plan, or the Obama’s healthcare plan. And believe me, I trust Obama’s plan much more than I trust the insurance companies of this world. No one is going to off your husband.

        You are right, you will not be mandated into the public option… Right away at least. Unfortunately if you read the bill it states that if you decided to Change jobs, change your health care or change your provider then you have to go to the “Public Option.” On top of all this, Obama clearly said in 2007? to SEIU that the single payer system may take up to 15 years to completely go into the single payer system as not all companies will go to it right away.

        So you are right, Obama chose his words well, “If you like your current health care you will not have to change it” only as long as you sit still and do not move. You twitch and you will HAVE to go to the public option… It is NOT mandatory NOW, it will be however one day as there will no longer be any insurance companies left.

        On a side note, IMHO Obama is an idiot. If you listened to his speech a few weeks ago Pediatricians do not remove tonsils, they never have, it is done in a HOSPITAL by a surgeon. Pediatricians do not get kickbacks either….

        Since when do people go to the ER and are turned away… Unless you live in Chicago and go to the University Hospital where Michelle Obama worked, there they turn poor people away….

I have spent my whole adult life as an RN and I can tell you no one goes without care. People think children die if the parents don`t have the money for chemo and other treatments and that`s the scare tactic Kennedy,Fag Frank uses. And then there are the people who abuse the system just to ride in to the ER via ambulance, get a cheseburger,warm place to sleep,a ride home in a taxi all paid for by the tax payer. all the while to prevent a lawsuit all the expensive tests have been performed. These are repeaters…that is the SHIT Obama needs to stop!!

        Obama claims that you will have a choice, and that is what you are told to believe. But every thing I have heard is they are going to penalize either the employer, the employee, or both if you do not follow their plan. In addition they will charge the companies so little for the government plan so that the private industry can’t compete, and then the companies will be force to drop the private industry plans and only provide the govt plan. But the Government plan is massive, and provides more Govt overhead, that the cost will be so ridiculus there will be little if any money for the people to actually be insured. Anyone should see how horrible the Massechusettes and the Canada plan is that this say to the US Citizens WE DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS PLAN. It will take forever to get to see any Dr or any tests, that most people will likely be dead by the time they get any medical care at all.

        I saw an audience made up of people from other countries along with those of the US the other night listening to a speech by one of our politicians. I didn’t see the opening so don’t know who the politician was. He asked if there was anyone in the audience from Britain or Canada who likes their health care system. They shouted, “NO!”. Why are out politicians ignoring the problems with those health care systems in those countries? Because they want the power. I’ve never seen so many power hungry people up there in Congress before. The truth: Govenrment controlled health care will not and does not work, will cost all US tax payers plenty, decrease jobs, decrease health care for all Americans, create long waits for health care, cause pain and suffering for millions of Americans, drive cost up, drive efficiency down and give the US government controll of your health care with the single payer system.

    BO wants a single plan health care system and stated such in speeches in 2002 and again in 2007 before audiences of the left, the same people that are his base. BO is a leftist radical socialist. Wake up libs and stop drinking that kool aid. Afterall, what does US tax payer money being used for abortions have to do with health care? It’s in the bill brother. Get a copy and read it yourself instead of believing lying politicians.

    A better solution: If libs want goverment controlled health care then start sending your checks to me and I will try and send 1/10th to help people in need and keep the rest for managing the program. All libs who support the governments program stand up, write-up the checks, send the money to me and I will manage the new LIB CONTROLLED HEALTH CARE PLAN for America.     Yet another liberal lawmaker on Capitol Hill has acknowledged that the public option healthcare proposal being promoted by NObama and Democrats on Capitol Hill is a “Trojan horse” for a single-payer socialized healthcare system.
    Earlier this summer, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts) told CNSNews.com that he agrees with NObama that a single-payer healthcare system has worked well in some countries. Congressman Frank reportedly cited Scandinavia as an example.

    Frank was confronted at the National Press Club last week by the group Single Payer Action, which asked him why a single-payer system was off the table.
    “Apparently because we don’t have the votes. I wish it weren’t. I’m all for it. I’m a big sponsor,” he admitted.
    Frank is referring to his support for H.R. 676, The United States National Health Care Act, which has 85 congressional co-sponsors. He says trying to push a single-payer bill through Congress before getting a public option approved would be “suicidal.”
    “The best way we’re going to get single-payer, the only way, is to have a public option and demonstrate its strength and its power,” he adds.

    Earlier this year at a healthcare forum, liberal Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Illinois admitted that her push for a public option is “not a principled fight” because her real goal is eliminating the private healthcare sector.
