Spying lawsuit brought against U.S. govt

September 22, 2008 by

The government is charged with illegal surveillance. The government’s surveillance of American’s telephone calls and internet use is "massively illegal," a lawsuit filed by a nonprofit privacy group claims.

A class-action suit has been filed by the Electronic Frontier Foundation against the National Security Agency, President George Bush and other members of his administration for authorizing the surveillance of people’s online and telephone communications.

The EFF already filed a similar suit in 2006 against AT&T that alleged that the firm had allowed the NSA to access its network without the proper warrants.

However, earlier this year Congress passed a law that granted retroactive immunity to US telecommunications companies for participating in the surveillance efforts, putting a roadblock in the EFF’s legal proceedings.

Although the NSA is not permitted to engage in domestic spying, it is able to obtain warrants from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Court, which was established to enable wiretapping on U.S. soil.

Some have suggested that this type of activity violates the fourth amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which protects people’s rights against "unreasonable searches and seizures."

Excuse me, Rebecca, but I disagree that in order to be a true American Patriot that I cheerfully give up my civil rights. Somehow I think you miss the point on the true meaning of freedom. I don’t have anything to hide, but the government and like agencies spying on me doesn’t leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy, and certainly not protected and safe.

Excuse me, Electronic Frontier Foundation, but I for one approve of President Bush’s response to 911 with tough security measures. If you are innocent and not in collusion with America’s enemies (both foreign and domestic) then you have nothing to worry about with the wiretaps. Gee, I wonder, is George Soros the founder of this EFF organization?? I think I’ll do more research!

All the Best to true American Patriots and a very Merry Blessed Christmas during this Happy Holy-Days season!

This isn’t about being innocent or in collusion with America’s enemies. Read a little history.

Another in agreement. It doesn’t matter what the subject is, if it’s conservative or related to President Bush then it’s wrong. Then Obama comes up with the same answer and now it’s right. A judge recently reviewed the domestic wiretap issue AFTER THE ELECTION and said it was needed. Obama changed his position and agreed. I haven’t heard any news reports slamming Obama. Such B.S. and our country i failing for it. WAKE UP AMERICA!

It is time we the people of this country who are TRUE patriots rise up and take this country back like our Forefathers did and as they instructed us to in our constitution if/when we see this happening!!!       IF WE HAD AN ATTACK THEN THEY WOULD SUE FOR LACK OF PROTECTION. HOW CAN YOU WIN IN THIS COUNTRY ANYMORE WHEN NO ONE WANTS TO BE RESPONSIBLE OR WANTS TO PUT THE BLAME ON SOMEONE. WE`RE SIMILARY CLOSE TO GERMANY IN THE THIRTIES AND THESE PEOPLE ARE PLAYING TO GAIN AS MUCH POWER IN AS LITTLE TIME AS THEY CAN. SOMEBODY`S GOT RETURN FAVORS COMING FOR THAT SIX HUNDRED MILLION SPENT.
