2 Irish Women Killed In Turkey

IZMIR, Turkey, Aug. 19 (UPI) — A teenage waiter in Turkey has admitted killing two Northern Irish women, saying one victim refused to let him marry her daughter, authorities said Friday.

The alleged killer, identified as Recep C., 17, offered to give the women a tour of the area around Izmir in western Turkey, Today’s Zaman reported. He then allegedly drove them to a wooded area, using his father’s car, and slit their throats.

The women have been identified as Marion Elizabeth Graham and Kathy Dinsmore, both 54. While they live near Newry in County Down, they were traveling on Irish passports and are believed to be citizens of the Republic of Ireland, The Daily Telegraph said.

Police began an investigation when Graham’s 15-year-old daughter reported her mother had disappeared. An Irish consular employee was sent to Izmir to help the girl, the Telegraph reported.

One of the women owned property in Kusadasi, a seaside resort where Recep C. worked as a waiter, and frequently visited the area.

Co-workers said Recep C.’s behavior changed this week.

“Recep was really different when he returned,” the colleague told Today’s Zaman. “For a while he sat silently near the wall. Then he put something in a bag.”

Recep C.’s father, described as a taxi driver in Izmir, also was arrested.

It would be a bigger story if two women were killed by a turkey.I wonder how many Americans were killed in the United States yesterday?
