1 Killed, 8 Injured By Amusement Park Ride

TAQUARA, Brazil, Aug. 14 (UPI) — An airborne amusement park ride car struck and killed one teenager and left eight other people injured in Brazil Sunday, officials said.

Alessandra Aguilar, 17, was fatally injured at the Glory Center Amusement Park in Taquara, Brazil, O Globo reported.

Aguilar was buying tickets for a ride when a car from the Typhoon ride came loose and fell on her.

“At first I just want to bury it. Tomorrow I do not know. My princess died. She was just buying tickets to play,” said Carlos Augusto Aguilar, Alessandra’s father.

The car that hit the teen allegedly was carrying six passengers, although it is only supposed to carry four, O Globo said.

Gloria Maria Pinto, owner of the amusement park, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. The woman’s attorney, in an attempt to get the charges dropped, provided police with documents showing the ride had been fully inspected and the crash was an accident, the newspaper said.

The eight others hurt in the incident were hospitalized for their injuries.
